This place was great. Good tasty food and exceptional service. I would say the best Chinese we have found yet. Egg rolls with pork, cashew chicken with a variety of veggies and Kung Pao with just enough spice. Cocktails and full bar service. Nice enough for a date night

Last minute decision to eat out and find a Chinese restaurant. Hadn't been to Shanghai Garden for years. Greeted, seated, and 'watered' immediately. Ordered drinks but the only non-Asian beer wasn't available (keg issue). Apparently the barkeep didn't know how to change it out. My wife ordered Sweet & Sour Chicken and I ordered Orange Chicken. I also ordered the Hot & Sour Soup which turned out great. Plus it was a sizable cup! Her main was great but mine lacked a little zing even though there were plenty of dried peppers in it. Tasty with dried orange rinds in the sauce but no spice. Curious. The mild surprise came with the check. My wife ordered brown rice which came with a $2 up-charge. We'd checked their website and the average entree price was between $14.50 - $19.00. However, the menu price came in generally at $17 - $22. Someone needs to update their website!!!

We finally tried this place and loved it! The wontons and sesame chicken were fantastic, some of the best sesame chicken I have had in recent memory. The wontons were very good too. Plus, we loved the decor and the service was friendly and fun.

This restaurant serves Americanized Chinese cuisine. The atmosphere is pleasant, the service is friendly, and the food is served quickly. I was hoping for authentic Chinese cuisine on a 'hidden' menu, but it was not available at this location.

There is a reason this restaurant has been in business for 40 years! It's a neighborhood favorite and the staff is wonderful. We had great service and enjoyed chatting with our server. I am a big fan of appetizers so we had to try a variety and our favorite were the pan fried dumplings. The lettuce wraps and Mongolian beef were also very flavorful and made great Leftovers!

First time visit. I'm originally from SF. Bay Area and Shanghai's hot and sour soup is as good as I've had in SF. We went for lunch and the portions are very generous. Everything we had tasted freshly prepared and hot. We will return.

The atmosphere is nice, the service was ok. The food is nothing out of the ordinary. Typical Americanized version of Chinese food.

They were also surprisingly good as leftovers the next day, which isn't something you can say about most fries. I liked the people, the place, the menu, the location, but honestly I paid $30 for leftovers that I can't eat. It's a shame. I've never before seen anything this greasy. The owner came out to my car after I exited and asked why I didn't like it. While I respect that, he explained that what appeared as grease was instead, sauce, and that it was flash fried. The problem is that neither the sauce nor grease had taste or spice. When I placed several pieces of beef on a napkin, they saturated the napkin with oil. Maybe it's an oily sauce? They were generous with the beef. The beef quality was pretty good, and the vegetables were unique enough to merit praise. If it were me, I would ramp up the taste quotient in either the marinade or sauce, eliminate 90% of the oil, as it's unnecessary, and add spice. This could be a healthy dish if they used avocado oil, way less oil, and reduced the salt.

Chicken, chewy and mushy and not normal meat texture AT ALL. If they're "velveting" it, it's excessive and gross. Chicken Fried rice was okay. But so bland and mushy and wet. Also had the weird chicken in it. Peanut curry lunch. Tasted just like like peanut sauce covering everything. They forgot my egg roll so can't speak on those. The curry had a lot of the mushy chicken and almost no veggies. One broccoli, 3 large chunks of mostly raw red pepper. No peanuts. A few snow peas. Pad Thai. Not good. Weirdest and close to worst pad Thai I've ever had. It had a grainy texture to the sauce and was really thick and really bland but sweet all at once. Just a container of red mush noodles and red mush chicken. Why? I really can't understand what is happening. Is this like premade canned or frozen and super cheap so they're selling it? Pad Thai at better Thai restaurants isn't super hard to make and is much nicer. I am just super confused by it. It really reminded me of Thai cup of noodle microwave ramen-like food I've tried at Asian grocery stores. The gyoza were okay. A little harder and drier than we would have preferred and not crispy by their arrival. I could never order here again because we tried such a broad array and its quality was just horrible over all. Even the rice was mushy and very clearly not high quality jasmine rice. Nothing seemed Thai-like at all. Nothing was fresh, light, savory, or vibrant, all things I associate with food thai food.
