The party at the yacht club ended and, as we made our way back to the hotel, we saw the sign for the Shanghai Bun, looked at each other and said in unison "perfect!" Mere moments later, perched at the bar with an IPA in my hand, wifey and I split the Shanghai Bun Samplers - which were just the right everything. Light, smart, tasty and puffy good. Bring on them house made dipping sauces!

The service was super friendly. The egg drop soup came out fast and was very flavorful. It came with a side of wonton chips which pair well with the sweet and sour sauce at the table. As for the Shanghai Bun and Shrimp Noodle Rolls... The Pork and Shrimp Shu Mai was hands down the stand out. Although the fish roe on the shu mai was questionable with its gel like appearance, the pork and shrimp was well seasoned. Also the pork was minced instead of ground so it has a bit more texture. As for everything else... the Shrimp Noodle Rolls, shrimp dumpling (Har Gow), shanghai pork dumpling, and shrimp & chive dumpling all looked and tasted like they got it from the freezer section at 99 Ranch Market. The noodle rolls and skin on the dumplings were thick gooey. The Shanghai pork dumpling was the most evident as the folds appeared to be machine made instead of hand made. Finally the sauce that came with the Shrimp Noodle Rolls was basically soy sauce and vinegar... it didn't have the sweetness that is expected. Overall friendly service but the most important part, the food, needs some work.

My husband and I went here for brunch a few weeks ago. Interior seemed a bit dark so we opted to sit out back on the patio and were seated promptly. Justin was our waiter. He was polite, personable, very attentive, and answered our questions on selections. High marks for Justin! My husband had the Shanghai Bun Deluxe Sampler and I had the Lotus Trio and we shared the Handcrafted Cream Cheese Wontons. Food was awesome, hot, and tasty! Bar area was clean and inviting. Restrooms were clean.

Delicious meal today! We were headed up to another of our favorite spots but decided to try something new and wow am I happy we did. I will for sure be in again for the brunch. The menu item are really reasonable priced. I loved the hot mustard and the the house made dumplings sauce. I had buns, dumplings, tacos, tofu and wontons and all of it was so perfectly cooked and seasoned. Everything was so perfectly done. I also had two cocktails (Asian persuasion and Shanghai sun) and the total was only 50$

I don't normally write reviews on restaurants I don't like, but the bubble tea I ordered convinced me to write one. The taste, the texture, and everything about my Taro that I ordered was not what I would expect when ordering Taro bubble tea. Put simply, it's bland and the quality is not there. This place is probably the least likely bubble tea shop I would travel to get bubble tea. The service was great and I haven't tried the food so I cannot give a comment on their cuisines, just don't order the bubble tea. Don't.

Growing up near Chicago, my family would go to Chinatown where we would eat in various small, independent restaurants. That was something that I always looked forward to. Since moving to San Diego, I noticed the lack of Chinese restaurants in the area. Noticing that Shanghai Bun had opened nearby, I was excited to try it. When I looked at the menu, I realized that some of it is Chinese fusion, and they specialize in various dumplings. However, I was craving some of my favorite Chinese dishes from childhood. My husband and I ordered delivery one evening to satisfy my cravings. When the food arrived it was still nice and hot. My husband had ordered some of the cream cheese wontons and I tried one. It is a simple enough dish and nothing was wrong with it, but I have never seen smaller ones before. In fact, the entire order was so small that my husband had initially though they had forgotten them, as he couldn't find them in the deliver bag. I chose the Moo Shu chicken and hot and sour soup. I don't think the soup was great, as it was a bit of a thicker consistency than I was used to. It also needed more spice. As far as the Moo Shu, the flavor and texture were good. I am not sure if they make them in-house, but the pancakes that you use to wrap the Moo Shu were the perfect consistency. All in all, this food satisfied my cravings, but was not anything too special. I would try Shanghai Bun again, but maybe try some of the fusion dumplings next time.

Do they still have the all you can eat dim sum on the weekends?

    Do they have outdoor seating?

    They have a patio.

How much is the brunch special? Is there an option without mimosas for less?

$30 per person. I don't see an option for those over 10 years old that is cheaper on the menu.

Does anyone know the 25% Chinese Tapas on Tuesday would apply for the take out too? I am afraid I don't have enough time to eat lunch in the restaurant.

This place exceeded every one of them. Nestled in a quiet residential neighborhood, Wolf in the Woods feels like a hidden European café you'd stumble upon while traveling. Sitting outside beneath the umbrellas with a cocktail, watching the neighborhood stroll by. It felt like a little corner cafe in Paris. Then the food arrived. Every plate was beautifully presented, but the real magic was in the creativity of the flavors. The combinations were unexpected, yet every one worked. Every dish had me wondering how on earth someone came up with these pairings in the first place. The Sweet Corn & Piñon Soup deserves a standing ovation. We literally stopped talking after the first spoonful. Rich, savory, slightly sweet, comforting and completely unexpected all at the same time. Both of our eyes rolled back in our heads. The Beef Tataki completely surprised me. The outside had a delicate seared crust, the inside cut like butter, and the citrus pairing made me rethink what flavors belong together. And the mushroom and polenta dish? The mushrooms had an incredible texture--like savory little pieces of mushroom jerky. I would have happily bought a pound of them just to snack on. Every dish felt like it was taking me somewhere I'd never been before, yet somehow felt familiar at the same time. Wolf in the Woods creates an unforgettable experience.

A perfect mix of creamy and light flavors, with delicious chunks of grilled eggplant as a topper and fresh mustard seed. The crudo was light and refreshing, with blood oranges paired with a black garlic really balancing the dish. I took a spoon to finish the juice because it was that tasty. The cavateli was my personal favorite. Perfectly balanced with a delectable sauce and quaint & delightful mushrooms to complement the dish. I wish the portion of this dish was slightly larger but we did have 3 people splitting it. For dessert we ordered the basque cheesecake with a blueberry compote and the seasonal pavlova. The server called it a custard, but we agreed the one fell short and had too much whipped cream in between the seasonal peaches and the actual pavlova. The basque cheesecake was perfectly "burnt" and we really enjoyed the blueberry compote though we wished we had a bit more of that as well. Overall, I highly recommend for a date night or GNO. But alas, Carbon Angela's Kitchen deserves every flower, every reservation, every "you have to try this place" text thread, and every bit of love. This place has become one of my absolute favorite hidden gems in San Diego. Easily top five for me, and as someone who dines out a lot for a living, that is not a casual statement. There are places you like, places you recommend, and then there are places that start to feel woven into your actual life. Carbon Angela's Kitchen is that for me. Angela is truly the heart of this place. She has this way of making you feel like you are not just coming in for dinner, but being welcomed into something she deeply cares about. And Emanuele is absolutely part of that magic too. Together, they have built something that feels warm, generous, soulful, and so special. They feel like long-lost friends and family now, and I am honestly just so proud of them and all they are creating. The food is the kind that makes you want to order with the whole table in mind. The griglia mista is hands down one of the best investments you can make if you are dining with a group. It is the meat platter, it is the moment, and it is absolutely worth ordering. Four to five people can split it, especially if you are also doing appetizers, salad, wine, and a few extra things for the table. It is such a perfect nod to what Carbon was before Angela took over, when the space leaned more BBQ, but now it feels beautifully married with Angela's warmth, Italian influence, and the kind of hospitality that makes the whole meal feel like an experience. And please do not sleep on the rest of the menu. The short rib is fire. The arancino trio is always a yes. The eggplant croquette? Obsessed. The crespelle? So good. The Everything Salad is my favorite salad on the menu, and the street corn should never, under any circumstances, be skipped. I said what I said. The wine selection is top tier, the appetizers are memorable, and the whole place has that rare magic of feeling cozy, intentional, and completely unpretentious. You can come for a low-key dinner, a girls' night, a celebration, or one of those "we just need a really good meal and a really good glass of wine" kind of evenings. And the back patio? Perfect for an evening under twinkling lights. It is one of those spaces that just begs for a long table, good conversation, clinking glasses, and the kind of night that accidentally turns into a core memory. They also have catering menus available, which is very important information to keep in your back pocket if you are hosting anything soon. What Angela has built is honestly something to behold. One of the hardest-working restaurateurs doing the dang thing in a city like San Diego, and now opening Bedda across the way too? I am in awe and wonder watching it all unfold. It takes so much courage, grit, taste, excellence, and heart to build what they are building, and you can feel all of it in the room. Carbon Angela's Kitchen is a true labor of love, a hidden gem, and one of those places I will keep cheering for again and again. Go hungry. Order the griglia mista. Get the Everything Salad. Do not skip the street corn. Share Share Share, so you can try a little bit of everything and do a tried and true family style meal, you won't regret it.
