I love this place! My husband loves this place! Finally an easy, healthy, fresh option we both like. You choose your base from salad, rice or pita and then they layer on chickpeas in a tomato broth sauce, grilled chicken, a different salad of cucumbers and mint with a lemony dressing and more lettuce and pickled onions and peppers with all the delicious dressing sauces and even hot sauce if you need. Service with a smile and super friendly. A few outdoor tables and some seating inside. Clean and easy to grab and go too. I only wish they had real cutlery for eat in and didn't rely on single use plastic. A girl can dream!
This small cafe in Ocean Beach sells big flavor food bowls! A Mediterranean chicken speciality food spot with choices of a bowl or a pita sandwich plate. Delicious seasoning on the chicken and chick peas! You pick your ingredients and plate choices! Dressings are special too! The cucumber salad is well made...Love a pickled onion! Counter service is friendly and accommodating. The cafe is sparse and has outside tables. Plenty of street parking and a free lot behind the building. A perfect serving for a full meal and its picnic ready for the beach or the park!
I saw this place on tiktok a while back and finally decided to try it out because of how full the bowls looked. I got a CYO with rice, chicken, and all the toppings! It was super flavorful and I love that you can add as many toppings at no extra charge. I ordered online and it was ready in 10 minutes! I went on a Monday morning around 11:20 so right after they opened and there was plenty of street parking in front. There's a couple tables outside to sit at but also inside.
I'm a big fan of assembly line style quick and easy meals such as chipotle and cava so I knew I had to check out Chicken Over Rice. The overall cuisine is closer to Mediterranean not so much Mexican flavors. They are a no frills shop as they only offer chicken in 3 different flavors. The food itself tastes great, very fresh and clean ingredients. Overall, a satisfying and healthy meal for me. Street parking is abundant and they have seating inside. I'll have to knock down the rating 1 star just because compared to CAVA and chipotle the options here are quite limited (chicken being the only protein) which is completely fine if you just want chicken. Also I think $17 is quite the hefty price for one bowl HOWEVER, they do really give bigger portions here so at least that makes me feel better about spending almost $20 on a bowl. This is located in Ocean beach, a neighborhood in San Diego that doesn't have too many options so this will be the best next thing to getting chipotle and cava. I think if I lived here I would come quite often but not worth it in my opinion to drive all the way here.

I got the standard chicken over rice bowl. It was good, but nothing super special. The portion of the $18 bowl was absolutely massive -- I was only about to finish about 1/3 of it. Would be nice to have a smaller & cheaper option as well.
YUMMMMMMMM! I literally crave this bowl so much. The perfectly cooked chickpeas in this silky, rich and smooth tomato sauce/broth, the tasty char-grilled chicken, and all the delicious garlic, tzatziki and hot sauces and condiments come together like a symphony in your mouth. I just say yes to all the things. The staff are always so friendly and generous, and they have casual seating inside and out. I'm always satisfied without feeling hungry or stuffed. It definitely feels like homemade food made with love and soul! Wish they had one closer to me but I'll happily drive for it!

The lady at the counter is very nice and very helpful. They have nice chill music playing in the background and you can have a window seat to watch cars driving by. What more could you ask for??
I've always seen this place at the farmers market and heard really good things about it, and it totally lived up to the hype! Everything tasted so fresh and the service was quick, easy, and friendly! It was the perfect grab and go before heading to the beach and will definitely start making this one of my common stops now!

The concept is simple, you just choose which base you want among rice, pita, or salad. A bowl costs about $15 and the serving was indeed plenty! All the ingredients were really fresh and flavorful. The sauces are very delicious as well. This meal didn't leave us feeling heavy either. Amazing spot and worth checking out! We will be back.
Chicken over Rice is a pretty simple concept but executed very well. I really enjoyed the flavorful chicken and all of the toppings on the bowl. It makes for a tasty and pretty healthy dinner. I do wish I knew they also offer spicy chicken but it isn't on their menu nor offered when ordering. I guess it's a secret menu ingredient. I saw it after she had already started making my bowl.

WOW! I went on a Friday morning and there was street parking, I scored a spot right out front of the resturant :) 5/5 weekday parking When I walked in I was greeted and received help right away. The girl helping me was so nice and was patient answering my questions. I got a bowl with all the toppings that I like. 5/5 service. Plenty of seating and a good vibe inside! 5/5 I decided to do take out and go down to Sunset cliffs and enjoy my delicious meal infront of the water under the warm sun :) The bowl was so good and packed with so much flavor, doesn't leave me tired or groggy. I got a couple of bowls and a pita from here a couple years ago. The chicken was flavorful and you can choose from so many fresh toppings! I like that you can make it spicy, so they added jalapenos for me. It has a slight kick, so if you are looking for heat, this is just mild in flavor. Service was quick and bowls were loaded. One thing me and my boyfriend always say is that chicken and rice is in universally good meal. Every culture has it and does it so magnificently different. Chicken Over Rice is a simple yet delicious choice. The set up gives me chipotle meets poke vibes. Where you pick the style (rice, salad, or pita) and whatever you do not want on the bowl. They have options between spicy chickpeas and spicy chicken or regular chickpeas and regular chicken. I chose to get spicy chickpeas and regular chicken (def recommend!) I was a little apprehensive about the chickpeas at first, but it was very good. The accoutrements are also bomb! There's a mint/cucumber moment you definitely should not skip out on. The service was great! Although the menu is pretty straightforward, the gentleman's did a great job of explaining the process and what our options were. There is street parking, but there's also a parking lot in the back, which is a great option. Most of the tables inside are high top, but there are several outside that are a little bit lower. Superb meal! I really enjoyed this place very much. Prices are very reasonable and the portion is abundant, they give a lot for your money and it is worth every penny. I've had rice as the base and they pilled up with spicy marinated chicken, chick peas, pickled peppers and onions. Awesome flavors and tasty sauces! Very nice people and very bright & clean place as well. This place tick all the boxes: prices, product, quality, service, value and convenience. I highly recommend this delicious place! read more

No notes. I got the chicken rice bowl with everything on it, and it was perfect. Perfect amount of spice and the toppings were delicious. I'm used to hummus in bowls, so the chickpeas were a tasty twist. I'm not even sure I could make this for less than $15 at home these days, and I definitely couldn't make something so tasty. read more

Just got this delivered and am blown away! Soooooo good. 100% my new favorite thing. Chicken over rice with extra chicken shown in pictures. The portion is amazing too! One thing to the owners can you add extra sauce buttons in Grubhub. I see you have it on your menu on your website. Thanks and keep up the great food!! read more
They changed their bowl sizes to smaller plate/bowls therefore serving sizes have reduced substantially. The flavors remain the same but you get basically chipotle served sized servings. Also the music is so loud that the server is basically yelling at you when they're asking what you want. read more
