Shamrock's food is good, but the dining experience is a little awkward. There are two booths in the tavern, the rest is open bar seating. In itself, this isn't a problem, but the place was uncomfortably well-lit, making it feel more like an exposed cafeteria than a bar. The weirdest part was the music: The jukebox left a minute of silence between each song, making us painfully aware of how quiet it had gotten. This, mixed with the lights, made the bar feel like it was closing time and that we were overstaying our welcome (at 7pm). I'll give the server credit because I think she was the only one out there, but the experience was inconsistent. She came to our table to take our drink order and deliver it, but then she didn't come back. We had to approach her at the bar to ask for food menus and then again to place our order. The waiting-tables precedent set at the beginning of the visit left us confused. Do we wait for her to come to us or do we go to her? The food was delicious. The sandwich and burger were soft, greasy, and buttery and we highly recommend the Garlic cheese bread. The fries were a little bland, but they came in a generous pile. There is a small stage and signs advertising karaoke, so maybe the vibe gets a little more welcoming on those nights. This is based on one visit, so naturally this could've just been an off-night. read more

The old Shammy is back! Food is back to normal since Dave is running the place again. The girls are great and service is quick. His onion burger is as good as it always was. Salads are huge and loaded with so much good stuff. Tacos are always so good because he still fries the corn tortillas fresh to order, as for the special hot green salsa he makes. The pizzas are always on point and sandwiches are always satisfying. The Italian is one of my very favorites and the shoe string fries are the best. Dave is awesome at making your salad or food to your dietary restrictions too. Give them a try again and you won't be disappointed. You cannot get better bar food anywhere in Parkland or Puyallup as far as I am concerned. Dave is a foodie and loves to show it with his menu items. read more

I tell ya what, the Shamrock Tavern is one of the nicest speculated dive bars I've ever stepped foot in, regardless of how from the outside the building looks like an old, dilapidated shanty on Pacific Avenue South. Nicely tiled floor, wooden wainscoting along the walls, un-torn and perfectly matched barstools and booths -- this place is simply gorgeous. Even the large, perfectly polished bar came equipped with two grand, brass beer taps hosting about five yummy micro handles, five cheap domestics, and a Guinness Stout. We start to tell him what we would like as he then decides to tell us that they ONLY serve BEER and WINE:( WTH!!! boooooooo!!!! we decide to have a drink since we are here and after he attempts to tell the ladies what kind of wine they have (he had no idea what Pinot was, SMH) we order 3 glasses of Riesling, 3 guiness.... As we get our drinks, he decides to let us know that they only take CASH!! I never carry cash:( oh but we have an ATM, which I'm sure had a heavy surcharge fee! After chatting and deciding were to go next we wait for the server, who is also the cook and come to our surprise, the bill was $16! Maybe that's why it's we see so many people in here?? I've loved this place ever since I lived in the PLU neighborhood as a soldier stationed at Fort Lewis. The owner (and his ever-present dog!!) are incredibly nice and personable and, even following a year long deployment to the Middle East, remembered our groups when we walked in. Awesome. On slow nights, you can play beer pong with friends and fellow patrons and enjoy some really delicious "pub fare". I personally found servers to be funny and easy to relate to. Unlike a lot of pubs/bars in Tacoma, they obviously relish talking to patrons, sharing jokes and being silly. Like a lot of reviewers said, this place has the look of a "dive bar" but it's really not. It's a classic looking place inside with an obvious sense of humor (check out the wall of vomit pictures lol). Hands down the single best cheeseburger I have ever had in my life. Dave's classic onion cheeseburger is only available on Fridays. I first had it 15 years ago when I lived in Tacoma. Huge meaty burger topped with cheddar cheese and grilled onions on a soft sesame seed bun with mayo and mustard. Unsullied by lettuce, tomatoes, or anything else. It's cheeseburger in its most pure form. Highest quality fresh ingredients you can savor. I don't know what magic they work on these simple ingredients but the end result is unmatched perfection. Perhaps you think I exaggerate or am an inexperienced burger eater. Not so. I've been searching for a better (or even equal) burger for years. It does not exist. I've told friends about this and they've joined me in testing out the various acclaimed burgers around Seattle. Yesterday I returned to the Shamrock to just find out whether or not they still make theses burgers. They do! And the very cool bartender even made some for us even though it wasn't Friday!!! My hero! I was afraid that my memory might have built up into some impossible standard. Not so. It was exactly as I remembered. Perfect. If you want to try this burger be warned: 1) it's huge. The beer prices have gone up since the last reviewer below me, but they are in line with the rest of the bars and taverns in the immediate area. 5 domestics, 5 micro's on tap, several kinds of bottles in the fridge. The sweet old lady who owns the place still works there every day during the day shift when the old folks hang out and drink their 'animal' beer. It was his first bloody mary for a customer. At first, I was thrown off by the carrots in it, but the flavor and texture of the carrot along with a sip of the bloody mary was very good. My husband, son, and I recently chose to go to the Shamrock for dinner and were very pleased with the entire experience. We had heard that the Shamrock had gone downhill in recent years, but when we learned that it was re-opened and under new management, we decided to check it out. We selected the dinner special, which was roasted chicken and rice pilaf, and it was amazingly good. Perfectly seasoned chicken and the most delicious rice pilaf I've ever tasted. The menu items look yummy. Am going to try the burger dip next time. The service here was great, and the overall ambience was friendly and comfortable. Sweet Sham! This place only serves about 8 different kinds of domestic beers and maybe 2 import beers from Mexico but the pitchers are $5 every night and students get a discount with ID. The Friday night beer specials are crazy with $2 pitchers of Bud Light to keep things going. Not that BL is a great beer, but if you're a college student like myself then you understand what I'm getting at. This might sound crazy, but I liked the Sham better B4 it was remodeled. The joint had character now its just a mini-Ram. The shuffleboard-gone. The little rinky-dink kitchen put out some great food. Dave's grinders and French dip sandwiches are the best I have ever had (outside of a real philly steak and cheese from the east coast), and I don't even typically like French dip! For those that are pissed that they only serve beer and wine, they do now serve other alcohol. The Shamrock is Parkland's bar that just won't die. Having been through a fire, and several periods of hard times, it remains going strong. The owner, Dave, spends alot of evening there with his dog, Bo, serving drinks and conversing with anyone who finds the fancy to strike up a conversation. Bo, is a very large dog, and very friendly, and Dave hates it when you feed him, as he is a gassy dog at night.... Thus, I feed him. The food is wonderful, and there is much available that is not listed on the menu if you just bother to ask. Dave's onion burger is huge, and epically delicious.There are many regular customers, as well as many college students out for the night, and passerbys. The Shamrock is currently being remodeled, and will reopen soon. I am not sure when, but I have a sneaky suspicion that it will be on St. Patty's Day. If you can't be in Butte, Montana on this day, I highly recommend braving the crowd at least for a green PBR or two at The Shamrock. Check it out! read more
