We visited on a 94 degree day knowing the house would be too hot to cook and after having read about the immaculate chicken. My first job in high school was at Gilchrist Buick where the sales guys would walk over to Hans' for lunch (and likely a few drinks). Had never been myself. It's an old school tavern, and very clean. That chicken is epic. I know it's "broasted" and the broaster sets it apart because most taverns can't spare the square footage they take up. The end result is crispy, seasoned, moist, flavorful chicken with a crust not found elsewhere. We got the hand cut fries because most jojos are underwhelming. The crust on the fries make me KNOW the joes are also solid. Half chicken and fries or jojos for $18 is a deal in 2026. We were greeted by regulars and when one found out it was our first time there, he bought us both a round. True neighborliness! Both Jason and the other staff member were attentive and welcoming. We were assured this chicken left over and reheated holds up, and I don't doubt it because of that beautiful crust. I've been to other places folks crow about: the Spar, Anglea's, Terrys Office Tavern, Buddys. This chicken is superior, service was great, and it was welcoming. We will definitely return and likely order out, too. read more

This was my first and believe me when I tell you it won't be my last time at Han's Place Tavern. I came in there on a Friday (10/10/25) around noon. I had a taste for some real chicken wings not the commercial ones. So, I googled good local wing spots and Han's Place Tavern came up first top choice. I'm so glad people posted picture of their wings. I went there and the place was spacious and clean. My only gripe is that their jukebox doesn't take debit but that's small. I ordered their 6pc wings and JoJo chunks with an Arnold Palmer. I appreciate the hostess, bar tender, and cook Michelle telling me to be careful because the food was hot HOT!! Like fresh out of the fryer hot and she was not lying I had to wait about six minutes just to get a Jojo chunk. When I did get one OMG they were seasoned just right and their wings WAS PERFECT!!! They were fried hard meaning the skin was crispy. The wings were perfectly seasoned as well and the Arnold Palmer was amazing. When Michelle told me "I definitely know how to make an Arnold Palmer." She told me right then and there she knows what she's doing and she did because the Arnold Palmer was palming baby. It was so good I asked her to make me another. A friend and I came here to have some chicken and a few drinks. There was only one other couple when we came in and two ladies working in the joint. One of the ladies was a younger girl who was serving drinks and cooking food and the other lady seemed to be on break most of the time, if not off the clock just hanging around. The girl that was doing all the work was friendly and giving good service. The other chick was a little rough around the edges sharing many opinions of a recent change in ownership. So we learned that the restaurant had recently been sold and there have been several changes. The chicken was still good. On first glance I was like, ummm did I mess up? NOPE. Those CHICKEN WINGS HIT! I don't know if they were on anabolics or what but them babies were pumped up like Arnold's arms circa 1982. Really disappointed in the chicken and jos since this place was sold. It used to be the best around, but the chicken is now cheap and stringy and full of gristle, and half of my jos weren't even cooked through all the way. This was about exactly what I expected. Came here for takeout during COVID. I ordered the wings, side of jo's, and jalapeño poppers. The portions were excellent, and the only thing keeping this at 4 stars. Food quality would have pulled it down to 3 on its own. The jo's were on the dry side, the poppers were previously frozen, and the wings tasted as though they had been cooked in slightly old oil. But, the wings were still juicy, and again for the portion size (7 or 8 wings for ~$10), this is a decent value. I will probably return if I am craving fast fried food. read more

I really wanted to like this fried chicken more but it was just ok. We ordered half a chicken and cut up Jo's to go. The bartender who took our order was very nice, offered us drinks while we waited but the place was packed so we just went to the car to wait. The chicken was cooked to perfection, even the breast was juicy but the coating on it was pretty thin and honestly didn't have a lot of flavor other than the skin. The Jo's were good, old fashioned Jo's but again, not very crispy and not a lot of flavor. This place popped up on my radar late summer. I love a good tender and tater, so you can imagine the anticipation. I had finally set a scheduled date for Dec 26, but after 6 inches of snow, I didn't think the drive from Seattle was a good idea. Even worse, you know we don't treat snow here, so the days after snow, the city turns into an ice skating rink. Finally on the27, despite roads still looking awful, I decided to make the journey based on DOT reports that traffic was light. Traffic actually was fairly light, but you can never account for the idiots on the road that make last minute lane changes or lane changes without signaling, It's never a surprise when you notice the damage on their vehicles. Nonetheless, when I got here, it was smaller than I imagined and had more of a dive bar feel than a neighborhood pub. The two females working could not have been any nicer. First thing I noticed was the pricing did not match the website. That is a pet peeve of mine. Yeah, you may have to pay someone to update your site, but that cost is cheaper than being called out in a review. Also, web design is so automated now, anyone should be able to update pricing as long as they have the login. I had the tenders and a half order of the jojo chunks. Decades ago, my dad used to bring home jojo's from a local tavern. They were well seasoned, well breaded and crisp on the outside while moist and flakey inside. These chunks weren't very crisp and honestly didn't have much of a crust or seasoning to them. The tenders appeared to be half of what I saw in review photos, but I can't lie, about half way through the chicken and taters, was getting full. The chicken has a nice crust to it, but again, the flavor although not bland, just didn't have the spice or seasoning that I expected. My last gripe is I don't drink, so I ordered a Sprite. This is the first time I have ever been at a pub or tavern and Sprite wasn't on tap. Later II heard someone say Beer and Wine only and maybe that was the deal, maybe you only have Sprite as a mixer and without hard alcohol, you don't need it. That left me with a dry mouth as a 12ounce can doesn't stretch too far. It may sound like I hated this place, but I didn't. I think they could absolutely improve, but I also think their core clientele is ok with things as is. If I did return, I'd try a burger or sandwich. However at 45 miles away, it's fairly unlikely I'd return. I'd either try something new or another spot that I enjoy in the area. Like I said the service was friendly, my beef was the food just wasn't as life changing as images and reviews lead me to believe. I also went for very long stretched between having my water glass filled despite staff walking directly past me. In a bar setting, a customer should never have to ask for a refill and I did at least 4 time. My final verdict is this is a great neighborhood spot, but I would not call it a destination location. read more

The chicken and joes here are the best I've ever had! Comes out super hot! I always get the half chicken and joes, my man gets the tenders and joes, I want to take a photo but forget because when we get home we can't wait to dig in! The price is so good, and the staff is always super nice when I go in. We live in Puyallup now, and not only do we continue to drive up there 1-2 times a month, we get home (about 20 minute drive) and the food is still to hot to eat. Moved back here recently, and have been sampling taverns and dive bars. The high Yelp reviews for this place are a real puzzle. It's an old place with twelve regulars; so far so good. But the food is deep-fried average. (Our eggs rolls arrived still frozen in the middle. No kidding.) But here is the advice for the owner: 1. You need a cook AND a bartender.. 2. You need a cook AND a bartender. 3. You need a cook AND a bartender. When one poor guy tries to tend bar, take to-go orders and cook, your customers end up sitting at the bar for thirty minutes with empty glasses and a second food order that wasn't dropped - ever.
