I visited this Subaru dealership in Rapid City, SD during a recent trip to the Black Hills region…read moreof the state as I consider my next move into retirement. As an FYI, this dealership is one of ONLY TWO in the entire state of South Dakota (the other being on the other side of the state in Sioux Falls). I wanted to check out the dealer's inventory of new 2026 Outbacks since the car was completely redesigned for the 2026 model year. While this is a relatively small Subaru dealership compared to others I've been to near where I live on the East Coast, they had a pretty impressive inventory of new 2026 Outbacks in a variety of trim levels. They also had a nice inventory of other Subaru models, too. While I was not buying at the moment, I spoke with a young salesman who did not apply the usual pressure tactics; he informed me that in So. Dakota, documentation fees are minimal because the buyer is responsible for paying the sales taxes, registration and title fees themselves and that those requirements are fulfilled in the buyer's county treasurer's offices. Thus, the potential for additional dealer profiteering rip-offs that can be seen in states like NEW JERSEY and FLORIDA where the documentation fees are UNREGULATED by the STATE do not occur in So. Dakota. This was refreshing to hear and I decided that when I buy my next Subaru after my move to South Dakota in 2027, that I will seriously consider returning to COURTESY SUBARU in Rapid City.

I had to come back to AutoZone asking for help after trying for 10 minutes he told me he is not allowed to remove part to reach the headlight ... So I went to the Subaru dealer, literally just one block away. Told the guy at the service department what happened. He took my key and said he'd take care of it. I went to the waiting room, grabbed a snack and a bottle of water, sat down, and started eating... Right at that moment, he walked in and told me all my lights were working! "You're good to go!" I asked him how much I needed to pay, and he said it was free. I'm not sure if it's normal or just Midwest "nice":) but the weather had been unpredictable so it's less stressful knowing it's fixed before I hit the road

I really wished that I had read these reviews before buying in Rapid City Kia. 24 hours after…read morebuying the car, it had a very annoying squeak in the end gate. Notified them immediately and they told me that I had to wait 2 weeks to get into service. I did. I gave them a video/audio of the noise. At the 2 week appointment, it wouldnt make the noise, like I had explained to them. It only does it on a gravel road going uphill or down hill. The initial response from service was, "I dont know". Next I asked to speak to the sales manager. Randy Lathen spoke to me and I thought we came to an agreement on how to deal with this very annoying noise. He told me that if he had to, he would drive a service to tech to my residence and drive it so the tech could diagnose. Six days later I had heard NOTHING. On the 6th day I attempted to return the car out of frustration. I was frustrated and angry. By this point we were a month past my down payment, and 3 weeks past delivery. Randy Lathen denied making that agreement. He just kept saying "we don't have any loaners". Then when I tried to return the keys, he refused and told me that if I left the car he would have it towed as "abandoned". I asked if he was going to stand on the "contract". He said you have a contract. I told him I wanted my money back. He smirked and said "That's not going to happen." Lastly, Service Manager, Rudy Hernandez asked if he could look at the car. I said that would be great. We walked to the car and he showed me an adjustment that the previous techs failed to try or mention. I will be attempting to contact the General Manager. I hope the problem is fixed but thanks to being put off for service on my new car and the attitude of Randy Lathen, I no longer want it.

If you are in the market for frustration, lies and wasted time...this is the place for you...and if you mention Capital One, rest assured, you will be given the royal "We do not want to do business with you treatment". 5 Stars and a nomination for the 2025 "Best Bad Auto Buying Experience" Award.

If people don't know what that is, it is a system that increases the dollar figure for every minute over a hour of labor. So you end up paying way more per hour then the 200 a hour. I have reached out to previous employees and the horrible story's I have head over the past few months is mind blowing. Whoever Tim is, that man should never have a job anywhere. He treats his employees with unbelievable disrespect and the accounting department is always finding ways to short their employees pay with no consequences. After everything that has been told to me this place shouldn't even be in business and I think maybe some from the state should start looking into how they do business, I bet they would no longer be able to conduct business in South Dakota!!!

First and foremost in any organization is the front line, and Mitch Eller was a true example of the dealership's approach to customer service. It's important to note that my buying experience was slightly different than most. I traveled over 300 miles to buy the truck that I had been looking for. Mitch and I negotiated the deal via phone and everything was waiting for me upon my arrival. Not only did Mitch have my new truck ready and waiting, but everyone involved in the deal expedited the paperwork and had me on my way - but not before Mitch took the time to explain the endless features of my new Denali. If you have reached this part of the review you know that I am highly satisfied with Granite Automotive and their staff, and I would recommend them to anyone looking to buy a vehicle.

If there was an option for negative stars, Granite Motors would deserve it…read more We brought our daughter's 2016 Buick (with give or take 75,000 miles) into their service department because the check engine light kept coming on. The service writer told us the turbo was the problem and that it was covered by warranty. We were shocked, so we asked THREE different times if he was certain. Each time, he confidently reassured us it was covered. Based on that guarantee, we agreed to move forward and even requested pricing on additional maintenance. By Monday, after hearing nothing, we called--only to be told: "You're going to be upset with me." Suddenly, the story changed. Now the turbo wasn't covered. The excuse? He "fat-fingered the VIN number." This wasn't a one-time slip-up; it was repeated misinformation given three separate times. That's not just sloppy--it's outright negligence. Even worse, the service manager and dealership manager admitted fault, yet the best they were willing to offer was a measly $230 off labor. Then, instead of making things right, they started avoiding us altogether. At one point, their response was literally: "Well, you're more than welcome to come and get your vehicle as we don't have to do the work." That statement sums up the culture at Granite Motors: zero accountability, zero integrity, and zero respect for customers. They admitted fault and still refused to honor their word. That's not customer service--it's a bait-and-switch backed by arrogance. We will never do business with Granite Motors again, and we strongly urge anyone considering them for sales or service to take your business elsewhere. There are plenty of dealerships who actually stand behind their word. Granite Motors is not one of them.
