I walked by this place a few times and was excited to finally indulge in an açaí bowl after my workout. Unfortunately, it was the most disappointing açaí bowl I've ever had. You're better off going to Jamba Juice for an açaí bowl than here. The consistency was like a watery smoothie, the only fruit topping which was a banana was underripe, and the toppings underwhelming. Definitely my favorite place to go on campus. It's in the same building as the ARC, which is perfect. I love their menu, and their goal focused menu. This establishment is always my go to on the way to classes and I always get the Raw-PB bowl and am usually always satisfied. This time, I ordered it with extra peanut butter for an additional amount and was not satisfied in the amount of peanut butter I received. The amount was similar to the original order without an extra addition of peanut butter. Next time, I will stray far from adding anything extra because of this experience. ShakeSmart is ultra convenient since it is right by the the SDSU ARC gym entrance. It's an outdoor stand type of shop. They remodeled the look of their mini shop here a bit over the years and looks great. They serve mainly smoothies and Acai bowls. You can also build your own smoothie (you call the ingredients). Students work the stands and are typically usually pretty friendly and helpful. No problemos yet. My only gripes is the pricing. It's a bit on the pricey side for these bad boys. I got two small ls and they were 11 something. And ..my other "complaint" is their straws for the small cup. The straws are humungo long ... for that size cup. Minor details but yes had to say! Oh yes, parking for non students will not be fun. I am not encouraging it but if it's dead line , you can quickly park in the semi circle right by the stand. The have consistently given me unripe bananas that are almost crunchy, and use frozen fruit rather than fresh fruit. However, the shakes are still good quality and the protein powder they use (gold standard whey protein) is one of the better tasting powders i've tried. The price is average, maybe a little bit on the high end for certain things since they go by the size of the container instead of the ingredients. You can customize it to how you want but premium ingredients can be as high as $1.25 (From what I can remember, I could be wrong) and lowest is 25 cents. I usually get a smoothie made with Almond Milk, Whey Protein Powder, Strawberries, and Bananas. It's always delicious! Their employees are very friendly and efficient. Shake Smart mixed up my drink with another drink and instead of remaking it they played a guessing game and said they gave me the right one and put me into anaphylactic shock. This has also happened to other students (this is a fatal allergy). DO NOT go to Shake Smart if you have a severe allergy. It's known they're not a peanut free facility however the least they can do is be cautious and serve the correct drinks to customers or remake it instead of guessing if they made the allergen free drink. They seem to not care for allergies because this has happened to multiple students with different allergies. If you are allergic to milk DO NOT get a drink from here. read more

The management here is worse than the student employees. My roommate had to be hospitalized because they don't bother to train their employees on food safety. They only RINSE out their blenders in-between shakes, rather than washing them with soap and sanitizer, which means they heavily cross-contaminate. I definitely DO NOT recommend buying anything here if you have an kind of food allergy especially severe ones. They had mixed up my roommates order with another person's whose drink was mostly peanut butter based, even when they were questioned by my roommate and the other person, they confidently but clearly unsure believed they had handed over the right drinks rather than remaking my roommates who had mentioned numerous times about having a severe All Nut allergy, especially worse with peanuts. The next day we asked to speak to a manager to get a refund, all they had to say about their workers hospitalizing my roommate was "we deal with so many college students and the workers are students themselves, errors happen" NEWS FLASH: IF SOMEONE GOES INTO ANAPHYLACTIC SHOCK BECAUSE OF INCOMPETENT STUDENT WORKERS AND LACK OF APPROPRIATE TRAINING ITS NOT AN ERROR, ITS NEGLIGENCE. This little booth is conveniently located near the ARC, SDSU gym. So you drop by before or after your workout. I have had one of their smoothies and today I tired their acai bowl. They were both tasty. The acai bowl is a good size for $5.95. I got the protein acai bowl which was topped granola and bananas. The bowl got kind of runny fast, I think it was because it was served in a plastic container, instead of a styrofoam, or it was made watery? I still enjoyed it. Great location and they have great business. The menu options are good. I visited on a Sunday afternoon. The person taking my order seemed to be rushing me to place my order (although I am usually a pretty fast customer). I am used to ordering one item and the person behind the counter ask me if I wanted anything else; this person kept giving me the total with every item I kept ordering. She really seemed to be inconvenienced by my order. The shakes had way too much sugar!!! How can this be healthy for me. My son enjoyed his acai bowl but compared to some other acai bowls it was pretty plain.
