Shake Shack is one of my favorite burger spots around Boston. I've been there a bunch of times, and the food has always been really good. The burgers are flavorful and cooked well, and the crinkle fries are probably some of my favorite fast-casual fries. I usually get a shake when I go, and they've always been worth it. Everything tastes fresh, and the quality feels a step above a lot of other burger places. Even when it's busy, the food comes out pretty quickly, and the staff have always been friendly in my experience. The restaurant is clean, and it's a good place to grab food with friends or family. There are a lot of burger places to choose from, but Shake Shack is one I keep coming back to. If you're looking for a solid burger, fries, and shake, I'd definitely recommend giving it a try. read more

If you are in the area and parked, this place is good. Parking is tough on weekends. The burgers are delicious albeit on the very small side. Crinkle fries were good- crisp and hot. They serve beer and wine here for consumption on premises. Service was quick and accurate. My biggest hesitation is that the place doesn't feel really clean. I've been to this Shake Shack location several times due to its convenient location by the green, but I've often been disappointed. On my most recent visit, there was a 30 minute wait for food after ordering, and after the long wait I found the veggie burger I ordered was way too salty and the ones in my freezer at home would have been preferable. A good spot to pick up a quick meal when you're hungry. They're quick and efficient about getting your order ready and it is consistently a good burger each time. My favorite is the shack stack which has a cheese stuffed mushroom along with a burger patty and shack sauce. Most recently, they have a hot ones spicy sauce that you can get either on a burger or chicken patty. If you like spicy things, then it's a nice option to try out, but it's not a burning mouth spice. The krinkle cut fries are always a hit being crispy. The shakes are thick and they usually have some kind of themed shake around the holidays. I'd say between 3 and 4 stars is about right. PROS: The burger was good. Topped with fresh lettuce, tomato and pickles, and some shack sauce, it was a very delicious burger. They have quite a few options and you can customize your burger as well, including adding extra patties and toppings. The burger was worth a 4-5 star rating given the establishment category. I did enjoy it. It's the best part of Shake Shack. The ordering kiosks are awesome! No more trying to explain to a cashier what you want on your burger, you just punch it in. It's quick and easy. CONS: The traditional shake didn't have much body to it. I maybe should have done the malt. I honestly just rolled the dice on this one, hoping the regular shake would be great. It was just ok, maybe a 2 star shake. The french fries... deserve 1 star... crinkle cut and frozen. While cooked perfectly, still lacked that delicious hand cut freshness found at the other popular burger chain in this category... you know the one... 4+1 Males. Soda. So the coke was filled and left sitting in a staging area in the kitchen, while the food cooked. By time my order was ready, the coke was flat and watered down by melted ice. Poor execution here. Staff was nice, but super chatty behind the line. I didn't feel like they were focused. When my food was ready, they forgot the shake. I had to remind the guy. But they were busy wrapped up in their own personal banter. I'm glad they have fun at work, but when you're waiting 25 minutes for your order, you assume it's because they're getting it right. OVERALL: It's a bit pricey. Service takes forever. I personally prefer 5 Guys over this option, but I also don't get the hype on In-and-Out. Seems like the In-and-out crowd probably like Shake Shack more than I do. A burger place should do burgers AND fries well. So many people give the high rating still, but say Shake Shack and In-and-Out do a great burger but their fries are trash. That's 50% of the equation! I'll remove the shake from the equation (although 5 guys does a great shake), because some people just drink soft drinks... but Burger with Fries is the standard pairing here. Also seems like you had a good idea to have the drinks people working independently if the rest of the burger people until the drink people make milk shakes 30 min before the food is ready. We are simply in love. There is no other way to describe it. Our new burger destination fairly close to I-95 which is key to us.....Five Guys can't touch it, forget Wahlburgers. Maybe it's the Martins potato roll? Or their sauce? I don't know but I never want it to end. It's very easy to get parking here, even if you have to walk a tad bit. Since it's now a destination spot for many suburbanites doing their shopping, tons of spots are available in the back lot or you can get lucky and park right out front if you catch someone leaving. The outside seating is a super nice touch and there are always small children playing on the green lawn that offers activities like giant jenga and ping pong. We tend to order ahead through the website and have it ready for pick up, so we can immediately grab a seat in the warm, summer sunshine with ample umbrellas for shade. There are so many options for ordering, there are self kiosks and then the not passe talking to an actual person type of service. The burgers are to die for (and will likely lead to my early demise of heart problems), whether you get it in a single or double patty. Pro tip: Add pickles since they don't normally come with them, especially through the online ordering system. Shackburgers are my go-to but I'm excited to try the vegetarian, mushroom burger at some point. Perfectly cooked every single time we have been there and just juicy enough to not break down the delicate bun. If crinkle cut fries aren't your thing, you may be slightly disappointed it's the only option here for a side. I have yet to try an actual shake, even though it's in the name. Burgers, fries and the plentiful water offered are all I ever need. I'm confused by the other harsh reviews here because it has been nothing short of perfection. Burgers go in a small white handheld wrapper (covers the food halfway), then placed in a cardboard tray, then put in a paper bag. -- Hamburger Patty was kind of thin but fairly juicy and the bun was super soft. It's a chain, and the quality can be inconsistent, but it's literally a cut above Five Guys (superior beef blend and sourcing) and a leap above the big three national burger machines. Double Shack Burger: This gives you a better beef-to-bun ratio than the standard Shack Burger. Even though the beef is cooked to nearly well done, you still get a good amount of juiciness. And even though there's a good crusting on the outside, there's a very gentle texture inside. Unlike the competition, you can really taste the beef and some generous seasoning as well. The potato bun is soft and fresh, and the lettuce/tomato are reasonably fresh. The American cheese gets a very good melt and is near liquid. The Shack Sauce is a seasoned mayo that adds flavor while still yielding the stage to the beef. Fries: They're crinkle cut, and frozen, not fresh, but within those limitations Shake Shack executes perfectly. I'd rather have Five Guys fries, but these get the job done. This Shake Shack location got off to a so-so start during a time when Shake Shack might have been expanding too fast, but recent visits have been good. During the 13 minutes it took them to catch and cook a chicken for me, I witnessed three other customers go to the counter to ask what was taking so long with their food. Seriously, who doesn't love Shake Shack? If you've traveled to any major city in the US (and now internationally, too!), you've probably encountered the wonders of the gooey gouda-stuffed deep fried Shroomburger, the juicy sizzle of the classic flat-patty Shackburger, and the Concretes, which are so thick that you'll almost break your straw trying to drink it! There are a couple of Shacks in MA, but the Chestnut Hill location is a bit more low-key than its metropolitan sisters on Newbury Street and in Harvard Square. Situated right inside of a bourgeois outdoor shopping plaza, Shack Shack provides a delish respite for hungry families with kids, couples on casual dates, and trash millennials like myself who are just looking for an Instagram-worthy post for their food blogs. The interior is spacious, and has plenty of seating at tables made from reclaimed wood from vintage bowling lanes. Pretty cool! The atmosphere is lively, so if you're coming here looking for something quiet, refined, or sophisticated, look elsewhere. However, if you want an elevated and high quality take on classic American comfort food, you won't be disappointed! My fave menu item is the Shack Stack, a combo of the signature crispy burger patty and one of the stuffed mushrooms on top of a pillowy Martin's potato roll. The cheese.. OH MY GOODNESS. It sounds like a lot of food (and it is), but no one ever ate at Shake Shack without indulging a bit! The fries are very good as well, and even better with some homemade cheese sauce drizzled on top. I also love the milkshakes, especially the seasonal Sugar Cookie shake that's only available around the holidays. I wait all year for December to get one, and it's always the best day of the year when I finally take the first sip! It literally tastes like a liquified Christmas cookie. Not in the mood for burgers n' shakes? No worries! The Shack also has griddled hot dogs and the Chick'n Shack, which is a crispy fried chicken sandwich. The Concretes are similar to the milkshakes, but better eaten with a spoon rather than a straw. It's like a blended frozen custard (think Culver's), with fancy topping mix-ins. Each Shack has a few special Concretes that are exclusive to them, and this one has one that has a full Lobster Tail puff pastry from Mike's in the North End blended with strawberry sauce and whipped cream. Scrumptious! Yes, you're gonna pay a bit more than Mickey D's for this food, but it's several steps above your average fast food joint, and an easy go-to when you're shopping in Chestnut Hill. read more

This place was ridiculously crowded when it opened several years ago and is really popular in NYC (seriously I walked by several when I was there). Now let me start off by stating that the burgers here are fine. Not bad, but not super fantastic either. The interior decor was welcoming and comfortable due to the large windows that let in a lot of light. The service was prompt and they have people coming around to clear your trays when you're finished so no complaints there. I'm a huge fan of the crinkle cut fries. They were extremely crispy and delicious (I feared they were going to be one of those soggy, droopy fries but I was happy to be proved wrong!). I had the double hamburger with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and the shack sauce. The lady had the fried chicken sandwich which was pretty yummy (nice and crispy). The burger was fine, though nothing special. If you're in the area and want a consistently good burger then you can't go wrong with this place. However, I personally wouldn't drive all the way from Boston to come here since there's a lot of good competition for burger places closer to home. This was the first Shake Shack to open in Boston I believe. A friend of ours was visiting Boston at the time it opened and we all decided to go on an adventure. We don't have a car so we took the D line out there. And boy was it an adventure. We got off the T in a subruban area, beautiful house etc.. Google Maps wasn't that good then as it is now. So we're walking towards a main road and following that main road for 20 minutes in the cold and to find that we were walking on the wrong side of the road and it was a highway so there was no way we could have crossed it. So we walked all the way back to a point and walked back to the Shake Shack on the correct side of the road. The line was through the door and at least 20ft through it. I tried the shroom burger with the crinkle cut fries. The Shroom burger was okay, the mushroom was very thick and tasty but there was too much cheese inside to my liking. Fries were crispy and yummy. The best way to get here is by car otherwise it's a 15-20 minute walk by a highway from the T. read more

This is for the Hingham location. I went to check out the fries. The order I got had been sitting under the heat lamp for so long they were dried out and add overcooked to that and it's a bad french fry, I also got the veggie burger. It was good but the roll was not good for burgers. I went back to try again. The fries were heat lamp warm but delicious. They are the best french fries you can get anywhere. I ordered the veggie shack, but they were out, so I ordered the mushroom burger. It should be called cheese bomb with tiny mushroom inside. I took one bite and tossed it in the trash. We unfortunately received terrible service at the Chestnut Hill Shake Shack yesterday. We placed our (very simple) order at 6:11pm and received a pick-up time of 6:45pm. We got there at 6:45pm and waited for 5, then 10, then 15, then 20 minutes and my sons - ages 4 and 6 were getting really hungry. Finally after waiting 30 minutes past our order pick-up time we decided to request the manager to just let us know how much longer it would take. He was rude and disrespectful. He said 'I'm not going to look at how much longer your order is going to take.' I explained that it's for the 2 kids and if he could spend a few seconds and let us know, we could take a drive and come back, to which he said 'you know what, if you want a refund I can give you one.' We've been going to this Shake Shack for the past few years, actually since it first opened and it's sad that this is the level of customer service or lack thereof! Three thoughts for you guys: 1) You get treated FAR BETTER at a McDonalds or Taco Bell. 2) You need to train your staff A LOT better 3) You need a better system to give customers like us with kids accurate order pick-up times (while / before ordering). Even a BAD definition of accurate would be + 10 minutes, but that's a HUGE step in the right direction for you read more

Since I failed to come to Shake Shack the last time I was in New York, I figured I'd go while I was in Boston since we don't have one in the West Coast. As I expected, the line was long but it wasn't painful and we were able to get a table without a problem. Despite being packed, the staff was not rude and got our order right. The prices were decent for a place that serves food using all-natural ingredients: hamburgers from $3.75, signature burgers from $6.25-9, shakes from $5... We got a single SmokeShack burger, Shack Attack burger, Shack-cago Dog, fries, malted Black and White Shake and a Shack Attack Concrete. The place smelled a bit like In N Out. Haha! Which means fresh, natural and not frozen artificial crap. SmokeShack Burger: Cheeseburger with ranch, applewood smoked bacon, cherry pepper and ShackSauce. We got the single because the double seems too much since we ordered a lot of stuff already. Tasty and the chopped cherry peppers on the top bun gave the burger a nice kick. 5/5 Shack Attack Burger: Cheeseburger + 'Shroom Burger (fried portobello filled with melted muenster and cheddar cheeses, lettuce, tomato and ShackSauce). Super delicious! The portobello was crispy and oozing with flavor. I annihilated the whole burger. 5/5 Shack-cago Dog: The fan is from Chicago and we know our Chicago dog. They slice the hotdog in half before cooking it to cook it faster and add crisp I guess. This was alright. 3/5 Fries: We stuck with the plain crinkle-cut fries instead of the cheese fries so our tastebuds can still taste the burgers and frozen treats. Every single fry was crispy, golden and lightly salted. KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid!) 5/5 Malted Black and White Shake: Chocolate and vanilla ice cream blended with milk and malted powder. This should be a thicker drink but it wasn't. It was more like ice cream soup...all liquid-y and no thickness at all. Honestly, not worth my lactose intolerance...and they're called SHAKE Shack? 2/5 Shack Attack Concrete: Chocolate custard, fudge sauce, chocolate truffle cookie dough, dark chocolate chunks with chocolate sprinkles on top. No one, no one, no one Can get in the way of what I feel for you... ~ "No One", Alicia Keys Amongst (personal) friends, Shake Shack can be a bit polarizing. I have a tiny, but vocal minority of friends that hate this place, thinking that it's overpriced and pretentious. I have so many friends that post pictures of burgers of here on Facebook, Instagram, Yelp, and other websites. Many friends have incessantly sung the praises of this burger joint down in NYC, saying the quality of burger is unmatched. While it alone didn't compel me to drive down to New York to try it out, I was intrigued by this restaurant when it arrived in Massachusetts. As of this writing, the average grade for this location is 3.5 stars. I think that's rather appropriate for how I feel for this establishment at this time. It doesn't blow like some I know feel, but it's not the greatest burger place I've been to. Just to get this off my chest, it's hard to compare Shake Shack to In N' Out because the price points are rather different. The latter's cheaper than the former, and one's a different experience from the other. It's more appropriate to compare Shake Shack to some place like, say, Five Guys. I got the SmokeStack for a sandwich, and noticed that it was a bit diminutive. The hamburger patty itself, while a bit small, did show some good quality as it was cooked well (a bit of a charred but not burnt taste) and pretty flavorful. I liked the cherry peppers, as it provided a needed jolt to the sandwich. It cut into the richness of the cheese and bacon. The bread was acceptable but nothing remarkable. The fries were pedestrian and I didn't really care for them. They had no substance in the sense that it felt like eating air when consuming those fries. Not impressed. The blueberry lemonade (special that day) was okay, but nothing really special. I didn't get much of a blueberry taste to it. I'm not sure if I really care for the metal trays used to serve food, either. It feels like I'm in the clink. Not that I have experience in there... :-P I felt the need to try a milkshake at the end of the meal, so I tried the Fair Shake, which was made with 100% fair trade coffee beans. Again, it wasn't anything special, as it was a bit too sweet and there wasn't a much coffee flavor to it. The shake was definitely overpriced for what I got. For $5.50, I expected more than just a 75-80% filled cup that was already small. I've had enough experience with frozen custard in the past to hold something like this to the high standard flame. I would give Five Guys the overwhelming advantage in terms of quantity, and Shake Shack a slight edge in terms of quality...but not enough to beat out Five Guys overall. Plus there's more selection of toppings with the burger with Five Guys. Come here once for the heck of it but don't expect blissful ecstasy with this culinary experience. Just expect to pay north of $10 for a small burger, fries and a drink, then perhaps feeling incomplete. (I can feel that hate from my Shake Shack-loving friends coming down like boulders) read more

Enjoyed the shack burger that had carmelized onions. And the rest of the group gobbled them up. The fries were nice and crispy though a little too heavy on salt. The shakes were filling and sweet.
