When we want a dependable burger, we go to shake shack! The original is usually the best. Not a ton of toppings on top (lettuce, tomato, onion all free but a small piece of lettuce). But the burger patty itself stays juicy. It's a smash burger but big for its kind. Fries are crinkle cut. And in our opinion, the original is the best and crispy. Shakes are also really thick and good custard is used. We've tried the black and white, the Dubai chocolate limited edition which had a super unique flavor, and the chocolate/vanilla (which is by far the best). First time going to any Shake Shack. I would probably pass on a 2nd visit. This is basically self service ordering at a kiosk. Luckily one of the associates walked up to the counter when I started ordering because I had a question regarding the spicy chicken, which he was considerate and answered my inquiry. We placed the order; however kiosk asked for table #; but there were no instructions where to get the #, nothing on the tables. After waiting for a few minutes someone else came up to front and noticed I was looking around. They asked if I my needed help & I mentioned not knowing how to put a table # in. Fiancée and I came here for a cheap date night dinner. I had just come from swim lessons at OneLife Fitness and was pretty hungry. This Cabin John shopping mall has been renovated over time and looks very nice, especially at night. There are good restaurants and places to shop. Before eating we sat outside and talked on a patio behind Colony grill. Once hungry we went to order our food; it was within 30 minutes of closing. I have always had a good experience at this location. However, today I stopped there at 11:30 am and placed an order on the kiosk for a single Shake Shack burger with fries and a drink. At 11:45, I went to the window to ask about my order and was told, "We are working on orders and you will have to wait like everyone else." I told the manager who was at the pick up counter I had already waited 15 minutes and he walked away with no comment or answer. I finally got my meal at 12:00 noon. As far as the food, I thought it was over priced, $36, for the quantity that I received, two double shack burgers and two small chocolate milkshakes. I could go to a fast casual restaurant for that price. Also, I found it brazen for the management to ask for a tip on their kiosk especially when I didn't interact with an employee for the order. It was a Thursday evening during the dinner "rush" and during the COVID pandemic where indoor dining is not allowed. There is one guy who runs in and out about every 30 seconds with the next orders that are ready for pickup. My only issue is that there is no particular order and while I waited my turn, others from GrubHub, UberEats, etc. kept going in front of me and THEY WERE HELPED FIRST! I'm sorry but it's cold outside - there was no sense of "hey you were here first" or "sorry man, can you wait since these people were here ahead of you?". Maybe having separate lines might help the process? To the food - we ordered two Shack Stacks, bacon cheese fries, a chocolate shake, and a black vanilla shake. The order was placed in one large paper bag. I asked where my shakes were and the guy mentioned they were in the bag. He was right... my shakes were in the same bag that my burgers and fries were. Hot + Cold = ?? They also did not give me two shack stacks. Rather we got one shack stack and one cheeseburger? It's really disappointing when the experience going there wasn't that great, and then you come home to find your order is not correct. This place/chain is WAY overpriced in my opinion. I've been to this location a number of times. I feel I have liked my experiences over-all here more than the Tyson's mall location and would say it is just as good as my experiences at Columbia mall. Everyone is always friendly and helpful here. My to-go orders are usually ready close to the estimated time. Tonight our order was almost correct. We ordered two burgers, two shakes, and two cheese fries. We ordered our shake sauces and cheese sauces on the side. We got the cheese sauces (thank goodness), but no shake sauces. Unfortunately, this was hard to confirm in a dark car so we didn't see until we got home. The shakes were a little different tonight as well, not sure if they just didn't get blended as well because they were busy, but the chocolate shake had what we assume were chunks of chocolate syrup or something kind of floating around. The Christmas Cookie shake had a different taste to it than previous years, like maybe a flavoring syrup did not get mixed in right? Not sure. We have gotten both of the shakes before so not sure if this is just a change in how they are made or just a one off odd experience tonight? As a long-time former New Yorker who grew up as an adult literally with the original Shake Shack in Madison Square Park, one will never be able to compare any other SS to those original times. But with that said, this location has always been the most consistent in the DMV and I've never had a bad experience personally. I love a classic Shackburger and rarely deviate. We got the special bourbon crispy onion burger which was fine - skimped on ingredients compared to some of the other photos I've seen but the quality was there so not going to ding them. Everything was freshly made and I think their cheese fries are still the best I have ever had at any fast food joint. Or maybe just period. For those that haven't tried, they also have one of my favorite fried chicken sandwiches ever and are very well known for their hot dogs. Seating inside and outside is spacious. Most staff are friendly. As someone that doesn't eat beef, I normally am not the biggest fan of burger places. Most places have mediocre veggie burgers that just taste like beans or have a weird soy-bean aftertaste. One of my favoriteeeeeee restaurants and this location did not disappoint! Located in a busy shopping center, I assumed they would be busy but they weren't. There is a small parking lot located out front so you have to get lucky, but I believe there is more off to the side. We ordered our food to include the chicken minis that I never noticed they had before! Our total was $40...which is somewhat expensive but the quality of the food usually makes up for it (I promise). It was my father's first time so I let him ball out! We ordered the burger, chicken sandwich (extra mayo), fries w/cheese, chicken minis, and a chocolate shake. Our wait was about 10 minutes or so and we were given a buzzer while we wait. A favorite of mine is the speciality lemonades they have. Today was coconut mango, which I didn't try, unfortunately. Came during opening week and I have to say I was impressed. Both the service and food were surprisingly on point. The line was to the door when I arrived at dinner time, but it move quickly. My order also came out in a timely manner and was nice and hot. Parking was easy to find. This Shake Shack is a wonderful addition to the Cabin John Village Shopping Center. I usually order the ShackBurger, but this time decided to go with the Chick'n Shack. The chicken was moist, crispy, not oily, was breaded nicely, and had good flavor to it. I also liked how the potato roll was toasted. The fries were fries, but I appreciated how they had just the right amount of salt on them. I washed both down with a chocolate shake. The shake was nice and creamy. It definitely put me over the edge, though! C enjoyed his ShackBurger, but was a little hesitant to eat it at first as it was cooked medium. Shake Shack cooks their burgers medium unless you state otherwise, so I need to remember that next time around. I love how this location donates 5% of its sales from the Pie Oh My to The Tree House, a MoCo nonprofit I volunteer for (check them out if you haven't. I agree with most people that the sandwich would be tastier if there was more coleslaw on the burger. CHICKEN BITES This was my first time having their chicken nuggets and IM IN LOVEEE. I love how crunchy these nuggets were and they weren't too salty. It came with a dipping sauce that wasn't too spicy. VANILLA BROWN SUGAR SHAKE This shake tasted just like a vanilla shake. It's missing the brown sugar flavor, wish there was more. In terms of texture, it's a standard thick, creamy milkshake. FRIES Honestly not a fan of these fries because of how mushy they are, but nonetheless they are potatoes and I will still enjoy them.
