Okay yes it's a food truck but don't sell it short! A couple of the nicest guys you'll ever meet will welcome you with a free sample. If you've never had a falafel take the sample. If you already like them this is the place to get them on Kaua'i! They have picnic tables and covered areas. Spray bottles of water to keep the birds away and generous portions.

I had wanted to try this place based on the great reviews and it was literally right around the corner from where we were staying. They can be seen offering out samples of their falafel from the food truck window throughout the day. When we were passing by once I took them up on it and tried a falafel. It was amazing! For dinner one night, we decided to try this place. My oldest and I both got the chicken shawarma plate. She got extra salad because she didn't want hummus. I also got us a side of fries. Service was friendly and quick. There's a couple of tables in the vicinity but it's mostly a grab and go spot. Cute little whiteboard to write on and tell them where you're from. They also have some merchandise for sale. Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed with my order. The hummus was runny, the salad, pickles and rice were okay, but the chicken was bland, dry and kind of burned. I didn't really feel like there was much chicken either. Everything had a sort of yellow hue to it so I think they use a lot of turmeric as well. But overall, I was disappointed. If you try this place, stick with the falafel. I should have.

After we finished our bike ride up the beach, we dropped our bikes off at the bike shop. Right next door is the Shakalafel food truck. The guy in the truck beckoned us with free sample of the falafel balls and we were hooked. I had the chicken shawarma plate with falafel. It was all amazing. Chicken was full of flavor. Hummus was delicious and the fluffy pita was just terrific. Next time we are back, we will definitely be enjoying more deliciousness.

We walked by this EXCELLENT food truck without knowing anything about it. The guy in the truck was very welcoming and gave us a taste of falafels for free. They tasted great. So we ordered a falafel plate and it was delicious! We also got his mint & strawberry lemonades which were refreshing. Do not sleep on this food truck. So yummy. Highly recommend!

Just like my review last year, you want good food that's amazing from a food truck, this is your place. Once again I ordered the shawarma plate, and it was just as great as it was the last time my family and I were here. Food came out quick and delicious. Definitely a go to for foodies in Kauai.

Falafel is one of those things that you either love or simply don't. This place executes it well. Solid taste profile, fresh veggie ingredients and little kick of spice. The pitas are full of flavor and bring that taste of Israel to the beauty of Hawaii. The folks are friendly and the size of the portion is enough to keep one going for a few days.

Amazing food and super friendly service! They even welcomed us with a free falafel sample. The falafel is perfectly crispy and light, and the falafel sandwich with their special sauce is just perfect. The baklava is incredible, flaky and crunchy since the syrup comes on the side, not soggy. The kids' meal (half falafel sandwich, fries, and lemonade) was spot on. Everything was perfect. Highly recommend!

$3 for 3 falafels, you can't best this price! We ordered 6 falafels (I could have eaten more) and a chicken shawarma pita sandwich, which I didn't like because it came with too much shredded cabbage. The chicken was good. I'd try the fried eggplant one next time. The guy at the window was super nice. He offered us to free falafel sample.

I've lived in areas of California that feature many restaurants that serve falafel. I thought, "How can a falafel food truck on Kauai compete with my favorite Lebanese restaurant on Santa Monica Blvd? Or that lovely place in Temecuala? Well it can...and in some repects passes those two. After getting a free sample of Shakalafel's falafel, I knew I had to get lunch there. After Patty atr her Leong's poke bowl, we headed to Shakalafel. What sets then apart is the remarkable pita bread! Plus, the falafels were cooked to perfection...not greasy at all! I ordered the hot sauce; it was hot. One note, I'd like it if the sandwich came with a slicy green pepper...you know, thise pickled ones. One more note, friendly service!

We got the falafel sandwich and it lacked flavor overall. Falafel was very salty and the oil it was fried in was old and stinky as the flavor resonated in the falafel balls. The sandwich was very dry and could not taste any hummus. The staff was not very friendly either. No basic thank you or instructions after ordering. read more

Don't walk, run to this place!!! This place has seriously the best falafel I've ever had. And I've tried in NY, TX, PA, CO. This place is rival to none. OMG, this is hands down the BEST falafel and falafel wrap I've ever had. The falafel is creamy and so yummy! The flavors exploded in my mouth. I was walking by this place after getting some amazing local grub at pono market . The guy running this place stopped me and handed me a falafel , I hate falafels . Always dry and mediocre . Guess I hadn't had a good one . I had to buy 6 more , they were moist , crunchy and simply amazing . They were so good I had to try their falafel sandwich , Best I have ever had . Friendly staff and very welcoming. Portion to price ratio was not worth it. Falafel didn't have any flavor and tasted salty. The sides which was cabbage, pickles and humus had no flavor as well. Pickles tasted like McDonald's Cabbage tasted like straight outta the bag from Safeway- no flavor. Humus- small spread and tasted like straight salt. The Falafel plate was about $19 and side pita bread was $5. If I could go back into time I would of went to Taco Bell and got a Grande meal for cheaper and tastier, And had enough change for a Dew Berry. My gf that got the falafel sand-which didn't even finish it because it tasted like "salted cardboard". And usually she eats more than me! In conclusion, the staff was friendly and great. Price was not worth it one bit. No flavor of food. Would of ate grass for free. Just my honest friendly opinion. read more

We had a free sample when we first got into town and came back a week later for lunch! We got the strawberry lemonade, which was the right amount of sweet-tart and very refreshing. Falafel pita and Shakshuka plate with a side of bread for lunch - both are stellar, can't go wrong. Falafel samples are what had us talking about coming back all week, and the pita is a perfect size. Filling but you.dont feel over-stuffed in case you're headed to a kayak adventure or hike afterward. The Shakshuka plate was huge, but all the veggies made it light enough to not leave you overstuffed either. Not as super hot/spicy as other Shakshuka I've had, but the whole cloves of garlic in the stew mix were a surprise every once in a while. Eggs cooked perfectly. Really nice guys, you can tell by the way people run up to them to say hello that they make friends easily. Laid-back vibe with a nice dining area under a tent, plus backgammon boards for a fun lunch time break between beaches :) I'm a fan and hope to come back next time I'm in Kaua'i! read more

The food was wonderful. Everything was so fresh. I ordered the eggplant with hard boiled eggs. I know, it sounds like an odd combination but it was delicious. Husband had a tomato based dish with egg lightly cooked in the sauce. His too was wonderful. The owner is very engaging and tempts everyone walking by with a free falafel!! read more

Perfect spot to get a nice sandwich to take on the beach or eat on one of the benches adjacent to the truck. Vegetarians dream! I ordered the Sabich. It was packed with flavor. I added on the hot sauce...it's a must if you like spicy. Great service...he even gave me a sample of the falafel. It was delish but I have never had Sabich and love eggplant so I figured I would give it a whirl and it hit the spot! Check this spot out! They were giving out falafel samples and totally got us! At first we just wanted a place to sit to eat. They were kind enough to let us use their picnic tables and offer us a sample of falafel. This place is dope! I loved their falafel and appreciated that it's gluten free. I got the falafel plate, everything was super good. My husband got their eggplant sandwich. It was good, but a bit bland. The fries were also amazing. When we arrived, they were handing out falafel free samples, which definitely drew us in. Walked past Shakalafel to go to Pono Market and they stopped us to give us a free sample of the falafel balls and IT WAS SO CRISPY AND DELICIOUS! The workers (or owners of the truck) were also really friendly and welcoming. I've never actually had a falafel before so wasn't sure what to expect but I love crispy foods and this did not disappoint. We still went to Pono Market to get poke but on the way back, we stopped at Shakalafel to order some falafel balls to go. They're made to order which means fresh, warm, and crispy! read more

This was probably the biggest surprise on our trip to Kauai. I came here two days in a row because this is quite simply the best falafel I've had. It's super crispy on the outside and flavored really nicely on the inside. They have a pita and a plate option and we tried both. Probably get more value with the pita option but I can't say enough good things about this falafel. Staff was really friendly as well too. Please check this place out when in Kauai. read more

Falafel was ok - a bit too dry without enough sauce. The baklava was not at all good though. It was like they just threw nuts between filo. Nothing like how any variation of baklava should taste or be made. read more

This is an amazing food truck! We ordered the shakshuka platter, falafel sandwich and falafel sides. Everything was mind blowing. Their hummus and spicy sauce is really really good, the only downside is that they charge $1 for a tiny portion. Request the owners to consider increasing the portion sizes of hummus and spicy sauce. read more

My wife and I specifically came to the area to sample their beers and try their food, and found the beer to good/great while the food was OK. It opens at 11 on weekdays, and we arrived soon after, so found street parking easily. We were some of the first customers, and our choice of inside seating. The building is two stories, with the upstairs being used as an arcade (classic 80's pinball machines). The large bar is the center of the downstairs, and they sell shop memorabilia as well. Tried a 4 sampler flight (no discount for flight, just sum of the 5 oz beers chosen). Their most popular is the Lilikoi, which we had just tried at a restaurant a couple days before, so we skipped that. Instead we got: Chupa lager (Mexican cerveza which was refreshing), Wheat (which was my least favorite...kinda flat/limp with little flavor), Alaka'I Stout (my favorite, creamy and almost chocolatey), and a Sour with calamansi (which my wife liked the best, I thought it tasted like a shandy). As for food, we got two entrees. My wife got the Kalua Pork Sandwich ($22): pretty much all pulled pork sandwiches are called Kalua in Hawaii, no matter how it is made. That being said, this version was OK with the fries being very good (similar to Five Guys fries, fried in peanut oil maybe). I had my favorite: Loco Moco ($22) which was well prepared, and the white rice was good. But the beef patty was mediocre (tasted like a standard preformed food service patty from frozen...it wouldn't have stood out in a burger). The one egg was cooked well and I really liked the homemade gravy. There is a 3% credit card surcharge, and Toast is the payment processor.

For happy hour, the prices are great and the view is spectacular! I don't know about their dinner, but definitely recommend the HH for a quite beautiful view and good drinks.

Very rude employees. One employee went so far as to chase us down to our car after we had left... all because we informed them that we would leave an honest review about our experience. He left and then came right back to our car 30 seconds later and started taking pictures of our car and threatening to call the police on us. Again, all because they knew we were going to leave an honest review about their treatment of customers. The experience was definitely one of the strangest in my life. I'm not sure why any business would allow their employee to do that. Unfortunately for this business, I do not respond well to petty threats to go to the police. Therefore, they get the rating they deserve, and hopefully the business owner can tell their employees not to allow something like this to happen again. Shameful and embarrassing. read more

A hidden gem on Kauai! Shakalafel is hands down one of the best food trucks I've tried. Everything is incredibly fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with love. I had the falafel pita and my friend got the sabich sandwich - both were absolutely delicious. The falafel was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the veggies were super fresh. You can really taste the quality in every bite. On top of that, Uri - the owner - is incredibly kind and welcoming. He takes the time to chat with customers and make everyone feel at home. Very busy food truck in a small courtyard. The person working there was very upbeat and handing out free falafel samples which were very good. Ended up coming back from Pono Market and getting a small order of falafel and regretted not getting a sandwich since the freshly steamed pita looked huge and fluffy. We went in a big group of 8 people and everyone enjoyed the food here thoroughly . The falafals here, was fresh and delicious. They also have good outdoors seatings. There is no problem with parking. Best Israeli food I've had since being in Israel. We tried the falafel and the Shawarma plates, both were amazing and very fresh. They said the falafel recipe was brought over straight from Israel. Pull over your car now and eat here! Handmade falafels, pita bread straight from Israel. High end ingredients and you can tell. I can't believe the price is what it is considering it is Hawaii. We come back here twice a week for a quick lunch or dinner. Can't recommend enough. read more
