I've now tried several things from the pizzeria and bakery that were somewhat flawed: pizza crust that was too bready (AP flour with inadequate kneading?), guava macaroon that was over baked, a cupcake with a cake part that was too heavy and dense (often a sign of over mixing). I'm positive on the oatmeal cookies - toothsome and tasty. Chocolate chip cookies were good, éclair was tasty (proper dough texture and a delicate coconut(?) pastry crème filling), as were pizza toppings. So it's a mixed bag of results that gives this place only three stars in my book. The pizza dough is the worst offender - if you are a bakery and a pizzeria you ought to know better.

The fried Spam musubi was so good that I'm not sure I can eat musubi any other way now. I also thought the truffle tater tots were an odd choice to offer at first, but they ended up being some of the best tots I've ever had, and the portion was generous. The spicy mayo poke was fresh and flavorful, making the whole plate a pretty solid value. This is one spot I'll definitely be coming back to every time I come back.

It had been named one of Yelp's top food trucks in the nation, so I had to give it a try--and it did not disappoint. Located right on the side of the highway in Kapa'a, Kauai, Tony's Catch sits in a group of about six other food trucks. From the outside it looks pretty simple--just a white truck with a menu--but don't let that fool you. I ordered the mahi-mahi fish tacos, which came with red rice and beans, and I have to say they were some of the best fish tacos I've had in my life. My wife ordered the fish and chips (also mahi mahi), and it was delicious too. I've eaten at plenty of food trucks over the years, and this one takes the top spot.
