I had a Halal place right near my house when I was living in Boston, and I came to this chain restaurant expecting to be disappointed. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was pretty good! I'm a Chicken and Rice girl, and with such a simple dish, you've got to get the seasoning right or it's just bleh. Thankfully, they got it right--the flavor was spot-on, with a good balance of spices that made the dish really enjoyable. Their signature white sauce is exactly what you'd hope for: creamy, tangy, and the perfect complement to the chicken and rice. I'm not a huge fan of their baklava or hummus. The baklava is edible, but it's overly dense, lacking the light, flaky texture you'd expect. As for the hummus, it tastes like something you'd pick up at the supermarket (and not even a good brand) It's not fresh or flavorful, just kind of bland and forgettable. Overall, this place is good if you stick to the staples like Chicken and Rice and you can't beat the price. read more

I ordered the falafel platter and baklava. The falafel is very dense, dry, and unlike any I've had before, which is not at all what I was expecting given it being a halal restaurant. The rice and toppings were adequate. I also ordered traditional baklava, but instead received the assorted box, which is a minor change. The service was very speedy and I received my order within a few minutes of ordering. The restaurant was a nice area for a quick bite but not really a cozy environment for more then a quick stop or takeout. Overall the experience was nothing exceptional. The falafel is definitely not something I will be ordering again, but if you're open to non-vegetarian options those may be better. read more

Having been spending more time on the East End lately, I've been sorely missing one of my favorite Manhattan guilty pleasures: halal cart food. Needless to say I was excited to discover Shah's Halal here in Riverhead, a shining crown jewel in a shopping center otherwise filled with useless garbage (e.g. Christmas Tree Shops and an Aldi that smells like feet). Shah's is sparkling clean, has smiling employees, and is very reasonably priced- probably one of the best values in the area. The combo (chicken/lamb) over rice was soooo good. Move over, Chipotle- this is going to be my new lunch treat every time I make my weekly shopping pilgrimage from the North Fork to Riverhead. read more

Do not order Shahs through Uber Eats! Absolutely terrible! There is a termendous difference in quality & portion when you order in person vs Uber Eats. The meal was terrible-hardly any vegetables (had to fork through meal to find anything that appeared to be a vegetable) ordered double protein-portion size it was barely equal to one portion-never again read more

The food was okay but the service was pretty terrible. I ordered online through their website and selected the "order ahead" feature. I requested that my order be ready at 6:45, and I get an email at 6:12 that says my order is ready for pick up. When I called and told them I didn't want my food to be sitting there for 30+ minutes, they were very confused and made it feel like I was inconveniencing them by asking them to make my meal again closer to my pick up time. When I got there at 6:45, it still seemed like my food had been sitting there for 10 minutes or so based on the temperature. So if you're thinking about eating here, my advice is to go in and order or place an order online to be ready ASAP, don't order ahead. read more

If you ever near the area or shopping at Tanger outlets, check it out. Dinning in is until 10pm. There aren't that many halal spots out east so this one is a game changer. We love halal food and this place the food was VERY good. But for $9 +tax which is almost 10 bucks for chicken over rice it's pricey. Plus the portions were on the small side. We left still hungry. If this establishment was just a little more generous w food portion, we'd be there every week. (And I'm not one of those fat Americans that like huge portions) We'll come back but just not often. If you like Halal this is the place to go to; the food is So fresh and flavorful and clean. This is my new go to whenever I get the craving for Halal. The food was so delicious that I went back there the very next day just to eat it again, and believe me they didn't disappoint. The portion size is generous and I like the way you can pick out your toppings. I had the combo; lamb and chicken over basmati rice with all the veggies. And extra hot sauce,but just to warn you this hot sauce is the real deal and if your not a spicy food lover make sure you get your Hot sauce on the side. And don't forget the white sauce! Enjoy!! This is fake halal. If you want REAL halal, go to the city. The white sauce here tastes like yogurt and the hot sauce isn't even hot. It's like they added red food coloring to it. The chicken is overly seasoned with sweet spices. You can add beans and salad to your meal (chickpeas, cucumbers and tomatoes salad, black beans, cabbage) and it resembles Chipotle (which I think, is fake Mexican food). read more
