Shah's is our favorite halal-cart joint in the area. Portions are extremely generous, a platter is typically two meals for a hungry person. Lamb is tender always, chicken tasty. Kofta and falafel are great as well. Pakora chips are excellent as is the baklava. Cheesesteak is excellent too, especially with extra meat. Loving the new topping additions as well. We go pretty often as it's well priced, well portioned, and fast. The owner is consistently there making food and is an extremely kind gentleman. Three stars equates to "A-OK" in my book, and that is exactly how I feel about my platter at Shah's. I tried this place out for lunch on a rare outing without my wife and when the craving for cart style meat over rice struck. The restaurant was completely empty during peak lunch hours, which did not bode well. I nonetheless proceeded and ordered a combo chicken/lamb platter over rice to go. Shah's sauces are solid, and I appreciate that the white sauce is not gloppy or sweet like some other competitors' and that the red sauce is appropriately piquant. They also offer a mild but flavorful green sauce which adds some fresh notes. Those sauces are needed as the chicken, lamb, and rice are unremarkable. The chicken possessed a decent flavor from a spiced marinade, though the pieces ran a little dry. The lamb cubes tasted like generic gyro and carried little flavor besides salt. The rice itself lacked the fluffy yet al dente texture seen at the best halal places. The proteins did not taste fresh and were served from a steam table rather than off the griddle. Still, the overall eating experience felt reasonably enjoyable due to the flavor of the sauces carrying the weight of the platter. The guy who took and assembled my order was very nice, though forgot to include pita bread in my order. I paid about $13 for the meal, and the portion was generous. As such, Shah's is a competent but unremarkable halal platter spot. I would not go out of my way to eat here, but if it's the closest place to you for this type of food it's a fine option. read more

I was so excited when I saw this establishment opened as it is in the walking distance from my place and the cuisine is a nice and much needed addition to the shopping plaza. The menu is what I would consider a pretty traditional Halal "food truck" menu (I'm from the NYC/NJ area and there are Halal food trucks on basically every other corner in the city) with a variety of platters (which come with your choice of protein, brown basmati rice and salad), gyros, salads and a few different side orders. I went with the chicken platter which was a healthy serving and I was also able to have additional toppings such as humus; onion and tomato salad and beans added to my liking in addition to selecting sauces to either be added on top of the platter or on the side. The platter was absolutely DELICIOUS! The chicken was cooked and spiced perfectly, the rice was flavorful and just the right texture and all my toppings were fresh! They have only been open for less than a week so they were still working the kinks out from a service and operations standpoint, however, everyone was friendly. I will definitely be adding this restaurant to my rotation for a quick lunch or dinner! read more

Shah's halal food restaurant recently opened about 2 weeks ago in the North point village shopping center. And it's pretty good here!! If you like Halal guys and DCG and wished that there was a place closer in Reston? Look no farther!! We got the combo platter as usual, they give pretty good portions of rice, chicken, gyro meats, veggies, red onions and you can choose other toppings like chickpeas, hummus, diced sweet onions, other types of veggies. Sauces they have the white sauce and spicy red sauce (which wasn't too spicy for us since we eat our food extra spicy) and they also have green chili sauce which we didn't get. Next time I will try some. But for now, this bowl of food was satisfying as it is. Their chicken and gyro meat tasted good, it wasn't overly salty like some places. Their meats went very well with their rice and veggies. Service was quick and friendly! We will be back for more! read more

Shah's Halal Food is another expansion from a food truck in Queens, NY and they just opened in Reston with a free rice platter at lunch. For those that are familiar with the Halal Guys in NYC, this is very similar and it looks like they are growing just as fast. Lamb, Chicken, gyros, falafel, and even cheesesteaks. My son and I line up in the cold and the line outside quickly lengthens in size to 50+ folks. We wait approximately 10-15 minutes outside and then get inside where the friendly manager/owner (not sure which) chats with folks and talks about the impressive expansion they are doing in the DMV. Nice people working the store... We both opt for the Combo Rice Platter with lamb and chicken. The chicken has a reddish/orangish marinade which is a bit different from other halal places and you also can add numerous toppings - lettuce, cucumber/tomatoes, onions, chickpeas, hummus, fried veggies (onions, peppers), etc. You then must top it off with the white sauce and I also prefer the hot red sauce. There are a few other sauces offered but I didn't partake. How does it compare? Good, solid, tasty food...the proteins are moist and marinated nicely, the veggies are fresh and with the combo of the white and red sauce it is a good meal. Is it the best rendition I've had?? Went here with the family and absolutely loved it. The chicken and lamb platters are delicious with really nice sauces and flavor. I like the size of the platters and the sides are also really nice! The pakora fries are really unique and tasty. The customer service was also excellent with really friendly staff. We are regulars at all the halal places and from now on this will be our main place to go! Highly recommend this! read more

I have to compare everything to DCG, which is the most superior and Shah's isn't there yet. I decided on the combination platter with white and bbq sauce. I thought the chicken was dry even with sauce. The gyro wasn't terrible but I'd probably come back and just get a gyro platter. The main difference is that you can get extra toppings like peppers, onions, chickpeas, hummus, cucumbers and some others. It's not bad but I'd skip the chicken and get the gyro platter next time! read more

Went there the other day. It has a huge parking lot so it's not hard to find parking. It wasn't busy when I went in around 5, and food was good! I love DCG, but it's further out from me. This place is just as good minus the extra minutes to drive to DCG. They offer a variety of toppings such as beans, chickpeas, and salad, and they're generous with the sauce. This place doesn't serve gyros. Don't come here for a gyro. They offer gyros but they are not real gyros. The experience of trying to eat it was horrible and it basically just fell apart. They do not use a gyro skewer, they don't cut meat fresh from skewers, it's precooked and precut up into big chucks. This place is chunky. It's like they should be a street cart and not a brick and mortar spot. The toppings they provide for their "gyros" are just huge junks of iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, and onions, etc.. an overwhelmingly unsatisfying mess. I don't recommend any type of pita sandwich here as I assume it will all just fall out of the pitas like mine did. The pita bread was good though. So, I dipped it in some sauce and ate all my "gyro meat" and toppings with a fork. Sad trombone. The person behind the counter making my food was wearing gloves but touching everywhere else in store, holding the phone, using the registers, taking things from customers. Complete unsanitary nonsense. That's not halal that a health code violation. It's funny how food servers who wear gloves just give you a false sense of security that their hands are clean and aren't covered in goo from touching the doors and walls and whatever. Their green chutney sauce was the best thing going for them. I could bath in that stuff. If you want a gyro, don't go here. If you want an aluminum tin filled with chunky vegetables and terrible meat covered in way too much sauce and called a salad then get your butt in here. read more

I went by yesterday for their grand opening during which they offered a free platter between 12-2. Though it was a long wait in line, it was definitely worthwhile. I got a lamb over brown rice platter with tzatziki sauce, cucumber salad & and scoop of hummus. Very tasty & filling- so much so that I skipped dinner- I will be returning again. Got the combo platter ( chicken and gyro) with rice and veggies for $11 and some change. Tastes good, similar to district chicken and gyro but they add a few more options for the veggies that we didn't try ( chickpeas, hummus, etc.) and the portion is good for the price. First of all I was so happy to hear about this place opening up. Finally a place to get a quick bite to eat at North Point (especially right after the gym!) that's fairly priced and filling and ofc I'm super happy to support halal food chains! Now, I can only speak for the platters but boy let me tell you the containers are small but they are plentiful! So far I've tried the falafel platter and the fish platter and both were good. I've tried falafel at various carry out places and they are never crunchy. These taste fresh and crisp just the way I like them. The 2 fish pieces are huge! This place doesn't skimp on anything. I like the variety of food on their menu and the fact that they have a few non-meat options for when you're not in the mood for chicken/beef/lamb. Friendly owner/employee, clean atmosphere and they make the food quickly. Looking forward to trying some of the other things on their menu. read more
