I visited to Dr. Shahin Javaheri's office because I was struggling with the texture and discoloration of my skin. They recommended I do the erbium resurfacing and because of my dark skin color I was told this would be safer for my skin as opposed to cO2 resurfacing to address the tone and texture of my skin. As you can see just after one treatment my skin showed a lot of improvement. The dark spots look lighter, my pores are a lot smaller, and the acne scarring on my nose and chin are much smoother. In my profession I work with people a lot face to face. So this means a lot to me. I feel that my skin overall looks a lot smoother and vibrant. I bought a Groupon for an IPL facial for this office. The parking is under the office building - easy and reasonably priced for the 90 minutes I was there (about $12). The office is welcoming and the staff friendly. Rose, the RN tech administering the treatment, asked some basic questions about my skincare routine and made sure I was comfortable throughout the procedure. I'm not sure if the treatment I received was a LITE version of what I would have received had I paid full retail price but I feel like it might have been. The stated value was $450, I recall, and I paid about $200. The treatment was your face covered in a gooey gel then hot zapped with a laser for spot treatments. It took about 30 minutes. I left with a slightly red, tingly face. Over the next two days the spots she zapped have darkened and are then expected to slough off leaving my complexion brighter and less freckled/spotty. It does not say on the Groupon page that you need 3-5 treatments for any real results and I think it should - it's a bit misleading. I suppose it's up to the consumer to research and understand what these treatments are in advance. I did like this office, and its staff, and, if I opt to get more IPL or other skincare work done, I'd be inclined to return here. read more

I recently began receiving IPL treatments at the recommendation of Rosh. I've had blotchy, red, pimply skin for years now. They set me up for success after the treatment with aftercare instructions and a skincare routine. I've been slathering myself with zinc oxide sunscreen every two hours during the day like my life depends on it to protect this investment lol! I'm ecstatic with the results after only two treatments and can't wait to see the results continue to improve over my next two. It's a journey that will take time, but I'm so so pleased with the progress. The redness has gone down immensely and the break outs have slowed down loads. Heli told me about resurfx to help smooth out the texture from scarring, fine lines, and enlarged pores so I'll have to update this post with progress pics after the next two IPLs and resurfx. This might be my longest review, so be prepared to read for a bit. You may thank me in the end. So you usually go to a doctor for help. Sometimes you need a special doctor who has a particular skill. When you go to this doctor looking for help, & explain your horrific journey that brought you to him, and he listens, & "seems" to genuinely care, it gives you hope. Because nothing is worse than needing help & having a terrible time getting it. The help that you need is *not* considered "cosmetic" in your particular situation, & you know for a fact that your insurance will, in fact, cover the cost of the procedure. This doctor is in your "plan" & (allegedly) accepts your insurance. All that's needed is a prior authorization. You found it a bit odd that this doctor was suggesting alternative procedures to fix this issue, which he admitted to knowing they would NOT be covered by insurance. Even though you were VERY clear you only wanted to go through your insurance. Yet he persisted. Not just one alternative, but several. When you're firm about *only* going through insurance, he assures you it isn't a problem & that if necessary, he can acquire the specific items needed to complete the procedure. In fact, this doctor personally knows the doctor who previously did this procedure on you, & called his assistant (in front of you) for help regarding which billing codes to use. You're told that an "expedited prior authorization" would be submitted & to expect to hear back from his office very soon. You leave this doctor's office with the ability to exhale. You've had a terrible & long journey, but you've finally found someone who cares. Someone who will fix your problem. You're happy. No, you're elated. But when you get a call from this doctor's office not 3 hours later, telling you "your insurance won't pay for the procedure", you're confused. You ask how the insurance company was able to make a decision on a prior authorization so quickly. Within hours. Late in the day, no less. You're told that your insurance company considers the procedure as "cosmetic" & they won't pay for it. When you ask if they actually contacted your insurance company, they then tell the truth & say "that's what our billing department said". You ask if they could proceed with the prior authorization & you're told they'd call you "right back". And so when you get home, you call your insurance company in tears to ask them if, in fact, they consider this procedure as "cosmetic". They confirm that it is NOT considered cosmetic, & the doctor most likely just didn't want to do the procedure for the insurance amount that he'd be paid. But you give this doctor the benefit of the doubt, & wait for a call back. Ten days, to be exact. And you never hear from his office. The insurance company confirms that no prior authorization was ever submitted. To add insult to injury, I was advised at that first appointment that I needn't pay my copay as it was "only a consultation". SIX MONTHS afterwards, they decided to bill my insurance anyway, & subsequently sent me a bill for my copay. The hope. The relief. It's all gone. In all the years I have been Yelping, I have *never* felt the need to write a poor review for a doctor. Someone who has taken the Hippocratic Oath in which it states, "I will use treatment to help the sick according to my ability and judgment, but never with a view to injury and wrong-doing." This doctor is different. I grappled with leaving a poor review, but it is the truth, & I believe it should be told. And should you choose to see this doctor, you should take this review into consideration. On the surface he is caring, he is helpful, & he is kind. But in the end, he cares more about lining his pockets than helping his patients. read more

For those of you who don't want to read my entire review here is a quick summary. Dr. Javaheri is the absolute best at what he does. Dr. Javaheri was not only efficient at each office visit, but he truly took the time to provide me an understanding of my procedure and made me feel at ease prior to surgery. He truly is one of the best doctors I have had. His bedside manner is excellent and I appreciate that he not only included me in discussions regarding my treatment, but also my partner, who attended all visits. His office staff is welcoming, informative and helped me though my surgery at every turn. I had been considering breast reduction for years and had done an extensive amount of research. I first discussed my desire and what I felt was a genuine need to have breast reduction surgery with my primary care physician. After a lot of thoughtful dialogue with her, she gave me a list with four or five surgeons in the San Francisco Bay Area. She made a point to tell me that she recommended Dr. Javaheri as her first choice. She said he did amazing work and was just a really warm, friendly and nice man. This procedure had been specifically excluded from my previous insurance provider, so I had been saving money to pay for it out of pocket. When I read through my new/current insurance policy and found that it was not listed as a policy exclusion, I decided it was at least worth a consultation. After walking into his office and meeting Julie Berry, his Patient/Surgery Coordinator, my nervousness and apprehension began to lessen. Julie is not only kind, but super friendly and she made me feel right at home. In my head I had always imagined that those in the plastic and reconstructive surgery business would be pretentious like you often times see in the reality TV shows. I could not have been more wrong! She was so easy-going and like a breath of fresh air; I felt like I had known her for years. I sat down and waited for Dr. Javaheri with no angst. By the way, that is one more thing that I really appreciated about my experience with Dr. Javaheri and his staff, they respected and valued my time and do not make me wait endlessly in the waiting room. The longest I ever had to wait was maybe 5-10 minutes and that was only one visit. All other visits, pre and post-op, were less than a 5 minute wait. During the consultation, Dr. Javaheri asked me a lot of medical questions, took pictures and measurements, etc. Dr. Javaheri was able to answer all of my questions and provided me with very valuable information that I did not even think to ask. He let me know that Julie would forward all of the information from my consultation to my insurance provider to determine if the procedure was medically necessary. Before I left his office, Julie gave me additional information about approximately how long it would take my insurance provider to review and determine medical necessity and what my options would be if they denied my initial request. She assured me that she would handle all of the paperwork and would be in touch with me throughout the process. When Julie called me only eleven days later, I assumed it was to tell me my request had been denied and I would have to go through the process of appealing their decision. To say I was pleasantly surprised would be a huge understatement! Julie had called to tell me that my breast reduction surgery had been deemed medically necessary and my insurance provider would be covering the costs completely. I was beyond thrilled and I could tell that Julie was genuinely excited on my behalf. Julie then gave me Dr. Javaheri's next available surgery date which was only five weeks away. I am a small-framed woman, 5'3" and 134 pounds, and my breasts were a 34DDD. I never thought I would have plastic surgery done but I am so glad I did. My back, neck and shoulder pain is non-existent now and I feel and look so much lighter. He has been a plastic surgeon for over 20 years and his experience is evident from the moment you meet him. After my first consultation with Dr. Javaheri, I knew he was the right surgeon for me. He was so knowledgeable and confident, without being arrogant (that was very important to me), I knew I was in good hands. I passed out at work and fell face first on the floor. At E.R. they told me that my eyebrow wouldn't move and I had nerve damage. They referred me to a few plastic surgeons, only one of which would see me. Dr. Javaheri. Upon meeting his staff and then meeting the Doctor, I was immediately impressed. Dr. Javaheri was very good at explaining to me what nerve damage was and how they work. He explained the couple of scenarios that could have happened and what he could do, depending on what he would find inside. I never felt that he was holding back from being anything but truthful and at the same time being positive. This helped me set my expectations at a realistic level. Once we set up a surgery date, my insurance company wanted to not clear part of the procedure codes to make the surgery happen. Dr. Javaheri's assistant kept on the insurance company, with a letter from the Doctor, to make sure it happened. Everything went well at the surgery and the Doctor was reassuring throughout. When I followed up with him at the office, everything looked fine and now we just wait to see if the nerves will start communicating after he mended a partial sever. My daughter came to a point in her physical development where her breasts were so large our Insurance company agreed to pay for reduction surgery because it was medically necessary. This was an EXTREMELY hard choice to make as a parent and I struggled with it for a long time, putting my daughter off when she would beg for it. Her Pediatrician supported her request and we consulted with Dr. Javaheri, the surgeon our Pediatrician recommended. He was patient informative and seemed to really understand my position as a parent, wanting to make the best decision for my child. We went ahead with the surgery, and I couldn't be happier with the entire experience. From our consultation, to our post-op visits, Dr. Javaheri was focused on my daughter's well being, he was compassionate, informative, respectful of my decision and his after care was above and beyond expectations. He called regularly to check up on my daughter and his office staff was amazing as well. Remembering our names and circumstances every time I called, giving us positive support before, during and after the procedure. The surgical nurse was tender and the anesthesiologist was wonderful. All in all I felt like we made the right decision, the whole experience fell together seamlessly, we had information and support and my daughter is noticeably more physically active, her back and shoulder pain is gone, she can find clothes that fit, and her overall well-being has definitely improved since the surgery. Dr. Javaheri participated in my mastectomy surgery by implanting a prosthetic where my breast had been removed. He turned out to be sloppy and an unconscientious doctor more interested in moving patients in and out than doing a careful and meticulous job. While in the hospital overnight, the implant side filled up with a great amount of fluid. He saw this and released me despite the fact. My other surgeon who had done the actual mastectomy, was very surprised when she came to my room and found I had already gone home. In less than a week, there was so much fluid build-up, that I had to return to the hospital one night for emergency surgery to have it cleaned and drained. After that, I was recovering nicely, when I noticed that one stitch had come to the surface. Since I was about to leave town, I went to Dr. Javaheri's office to have him check it out. He went and got a tweezer, and pulled it out. The next day, I developed a high fever and was very ill. I had developed a raging infection. There followed a few months of antibiotics, then intravenous antibiotics, none of which were effective. Finally, there was no choice but to have the implant removed. At that time, Dr. Javaheri decided to go on vacation; the doctor who was covering for him was not available to do the surgery either. I was assigned to a doctor who had not been practicing for years while raising children and was just returning to the field. There were more complications after that, but I'll spare you the details. By the way, while I had been under Dr. Javaher's care, there were a number of times when I needed antibiotics. After taking one type that did not work at all, I took another which was effective. The next time I needed an antibiotic, Dr. J did not bother to check my records and gave me a prescription for the ineffective medication once again! 'Nuf said! read more

2 weeks ago I had a tummy tuck surgery done by Dr. Shahin Javaheri. I had lots of fear, second thoughts and concerns. Dr. Javaheri was so kind, met and spoke with me several times prior to surgery, he and his staff were really professional and compassionate and encouraged me to take my time. The surgery was very successful, The operating room was very nice and comfortable, afterward I was able to walk to the car by myself and be driven home. The pain was completely manageable with pain pills, I was really shocked, it looked nothing like I had imagined, I was able to go up and down the stairs gently even on the first day. The incision looks really clean and good. I could not believe the great results. I still have swelling, but even with that my profile is a perfect straight line the buldge is completely gone. After the surgery, for the first week I got a call from the doctor, anesthesiologist and the staff ever day. I felt so cared for, Doctor Javaheri has given me his personal cell phone number and has made me feel welcome to call him any time. We talk every other day and he listens so attentively about what I am experiencing.
