I strongly advise others to be extremely cautious before seeing this surgeon. I was diagnosed by him with a skull condition that multiple doctors later told me I never had. The diagnosis was made without adequate evidence, yet he proceeded to operate. People would comment unprompted that I looked unnatural. More importantly, I developed serious functional problems that I had never experienced before the operation. There was no clear plan to manage the complications. I was left to figure out how to deal with permanent medical problems on my own. Since then I have consulted many other physicians who have not provided helpful guidance. It was and still is normal that I would be in so much pain that I didn't know if I'd wake up the next day. This surgery permanently altered my quality of life. Extremely fatphobic doctor. Medical assistant didn't screen me in advance for weight and went through entire consult for a breast reduction before being told I was morbidly obese and not a candidate for surgery unless I lost a significant amount of weight. Intentional weight loss is not an option for me because I'm in recovery from an eating disorder. I always disclose this information at the beginning of any medical appointment specifically to avoid conversations around intentional weight loss because for me, intentional weight loss could be fatal. Had I known that this doctor was a virulent fatphobe (despite the existence of research that high BMI actually doesn't produce more adverse outcomes for breast reduction surgery than "healthy" BMI), I would never have made the appointment, let alone go through the lengthy consult. If you're healing from ED, have a high BMI or just generally trying to live consistently with principles of fat liberation, avoid this practice. read more

I don't see how anyone, seeking to have any kind of cosmetic surgery, could find anyone better than Dr. Cedars and his staff to perform the procedure. They were so thorough, from the beginning to the end of my surgery (liposuction and male breast reduction.) Any questions I had were answered, questions I didn't know I needed to ask were answered, too. The attention to detail by Dr. Cedars, J'aime Perez, and everyone else at his clinic is amazing. Any fears I had pre-surgery were well-alleviated. Medications were prescribed and I had them well in advance of needing them: and no more and no less than were needed. Everything was made as safe, sanguine, and worry-free as possible. Of course, any surgery has post-op discomfort, but they made it as smooth for me as it could be. Post-surgery, the care I got was what I would like to call: "pampering." I never felt like they were out of reach: any time of day, if I had a question of problem, either Dr. Cedars himself or J'aime was a phone call away. Also, the fist two weeks after post-op, I got a call almost every day to check on my condition. I couldn't have been looked after better. If you want a potentially stressful experience to go as smoothly and professionally as possible, I would recommend Dr. Cedars. Dr Michael Cedars performed an abdominoplasty with medial fascia repair for me on December 20, 2019. He is an excellent surgeon and artist. He has an excellent bedside manner, I felt at ease immediately. His office staff is lovely as well. I especially have enjoyed working with Kim, his surgery coordinator. I had extensive stretch marks, an appendectomy scar and loose skin from multiple pregnancies. OMG, this guy is good. No, GREAT...unusually GREAT! So I have a long history with scars....with cancerous moles...and the need to cut them off my body. I HATE going to the dermatologist because they invariably create large scars and leave me emotionally wounded. (More on this later) My latest excursion into necessary excisions, a nice name for surgically removing a precancerous mole, was BY FAR the best experience in nearly 30 years of skin care. Yes, I've been at this a long time, unfortunately. WIth more than 20 deep excisions, scars longer than four inches, and multiple keloid-type scars as a result ...I know the drill. And I'm a tough customer. This surgery was on my .... er... hindquarters, which meant a pant-less surgery. Weee, fun times. Dr. Cedars first injected my ...er ... hindquarters with lidocaine to numb the area for surgery. As I was lying there, looking out the window (nice view, btw), I was composing this review. Pant-less, getting my asz needled with a burning solution, I was already thinking "Wow, this guy is good. I should put this in his Yelp review." His ability to inject local anesthetic is TOP NOTCH. Remember, I'm comparing his work to +10 other Drs who've done similar surgeries... I really, and unfortunately, am an expert in this matter. The surgery went well and in prep'ing me to go home, I noticed they used about 10x the tape that previous Drs had used. I think I even said "Wow." This tape is important and I think it was one of the reasons the scars were minimal. LET ME REPEAT THAT... MY SCARS WERE MINIMAL. Unbelievable! For someone who dreads seeing the bandages come off as it is always a reminder that I'm a freak, I couldn't believe what I saw. Great job Doc! Lastly, I want to also comment on the extremely high level of professionalism that Dr Cedars showed. He was the first Derm or Plastic Surgeon in the last five years NOT to make a comment about how they could fix something else. Be it a spider vein, a bump on my nose or other "problems" that only an expert would notice, I really don't want to leave a Dr's office feeling uglier than when I walked in. I had multiple piercings in my ears, and one day when putting on earrings on my left ear, I tore the cartilage, leaving it rather funny-looking. Fortunately, my hair covered it, and even my boyfriend at the time hadn't noticed; he said he'd probably "kissed it many times without realizing it had torn." But it did tear, and for some three years, I contemplated what to do, or rather how to pay to get it fixed. Because it is a cosmetic procedure, my insurance wouldn't cover it, so the cost of the surgery would be completely out-of-pocket. After some investigating, and consulting the Berkeley Parents' Network (a great source for almost everything), I went to see Dr. Cedars. He said he could fix it, and quoted me a price ($1,000) for the procedure and all follow-up appointments. Preparation for the surgery involved abstaining from ibuprofen for a week prior to surgery; as a headache-sufferer who only finds relief with Motrin or Advil, this was quite difficult. But I did it, even though it involved a three-day headache in the week prior to surgery. Once at the office for the appointment, it went quite quickly: Dr. Cedars stitched up the tear, and it was completely painless. He also made the lower piercing smaller, as it had stretched over time. He said I would have a small scar on the ear, but that's much better than having a tear. I've seen Dr. Cedars for years for Botox and he's wonderful. When I moved to the East Bay from out of state I searched a long time for a doctor. There are many med spas that provide Botox and injections these days, and I've since visited a few but this doctor remains one of the best. I've not seen him for anything else but I can attest to the quality of his Botox and I've given up on all the overpriced and under performing places in the city of SF and I'll be going back to Dr. Cedars from now on. His Botox isn't watered down and he knows where to place it. I've never had a misplaced prick, no abnormal swelling, and the product lasts longer than a month or two which is not uncommon with some of the med spas. Dr. Cedars is the kindest doctor we've ever met. We were sent to him by another doctor for my daughter's mole's second excision because the first test came back with possible future concerns. He talked to us with such a kind tone and great patience. He assured us, especially my then 10-year-old daughter, that everything would just be fine. I usually have a list of questions to ask whenever I visit doctors. Dr. Cedars listened to me patiently and made sure that all of my questions were answered and explained clearly. When he was talking to us, he made direct eye contact, which made us feel that the doctor really cared. The surgical procedure was scheduled at the following appointment and it was done beautifully. My daughter came out of the room looking so relaxed. The wound healed as expected within a few weeks. We went back a few months later for a consultation regarding the scar formed at a different mole excision site that was performed by another doctor. Dr. Cedars again answered all of my questions and explained all of the concerns I had. Instead of suggesting any aggressive treatments to flatten the scar like the other doctor "strongly" recommended, he told us that nothing needed to be done. The scar itself will flatten out and fade over time. Exactly like what he said, the color of the scar has faded and is barely noticeable now. I had a breast reduction with Dr. Cedars about two months ago and I could not have asked for a better result. I came in with back and neck pain that was making it difficult for me to just exist in daily life without pain. I actually went to one of his open house demonstrations first, which I highly recommend. I was impressed by the fact that during his presentation and while answering questions Dr. Cedars wanted to discuss all possible solutions for issues, including non-surgical, and he always seemed to highly value the least invasive and intensive option. During consultations, Dr. Cedars and Dr. Perez were kind, experiences, and clearly wanted my input and opinion. I never felt as if I was being talked over, or talked down to. They were clear about the surgical risks and about how much this would cost. One thing I especially appreciated was that the price that I was quoted the first time I asked about cost NEVER changed. No hidden fees, no random up-charges. My recovery was shockingly easy. I know much of that is due to body condition before surgery, but I also really believe that Dr. Cedars skill had a huge part of it as well. I was up and making social calls the day after surgery, and I was off all painkillers, including Tylenol, after four days. I also was able to contact my doctors whenever I wanted by text between appointments, which was really comforting as this was the first major surgery I've ever had. Seven weeks out and my shape is fantastic and I'm completely pain free for the first time in probably fifteen years. When I look down they're look bad and people say that..I told Dr Cedar about it he replied When you are on camera call do not look down. Sorry this is so long, but this doctor is worth the words. This doctor, Dr. Michael Cedars, was referred to me by Dr. Joann Badger (sp?) head or former head of dermatology at Stanford AND. Dr. Katie Rodan, (Rodan and Fields) noted dermatologist - who shares the office for part of her dermatology practice (highly highly recommend Dr. Rodan). (Dr. Tomi Wall, dermatologist, is also a part of this office - have every reason to assume she is excellent but do not know her). Did not want to see Dr. Cedars at first. Scared to even make an appointment for months. Felt way too intimidated at the thought of even making an appointment with a surgeon. Surgeons, I had always thought were usually way arrogant -- and I was, also, way too afraid due to having surgeries forced on me with negative - painful - results when I was in my youth in rural areas of the country. But, gradually the Cedars/Rodan office staff members won me over and gave me information and courage. Many of the all - female staff told me of surgeries Dr. Cedars had performed on each of them. Every one of these woman exhibited COMPLETE confidence in Dr. Cedars and (it seems to me) joy - In working within the Cedars/Rodan team. Noteworthy, without exception each staff member seems to actually exhibit PRIDE in the fact that she holds a position within the Rodan/Cedars office team. That fact, on its own, did and continues to, blow me away. Quite unusual for so many female staff members to feel. so very comfortable working with (one) male doctor. I recently had a SMAS facelift by Dr. Cedars and am absolutely thrilled! He is absolutely the best!! Being extremely particular I did my research and I pretty much knew what I wanted changed about my face when I went in. I also had previously visited two other plastic surgeons for a consultation so I knew what I didn't want. Dr. Cedars had been recommended by a close relative who had the procedure several years ago and she still looks amazing. So, I was able to see his work firsthand and how it lasted on her after a few years. To me, that is a true testimony of a good surgeon. I was only with him a few minutes when I knew he was the one I would entrust with this surgery. He went on to painstakingly and thoroughly spend a great deal of time examining my face for bone structure, elasticity, taking pictures and explaining the procedure. It has now been almost 2 months and I am so happy with the results. I've also chosen to do some botox and fillers for lines around my mouth and am pleased with the results as well. I look refreshed, rested and feel so much better about myself. The few who knew I was having it done are amazed at how I look --- the ones that don't know just sort of wonder what I have done differently. Dr. Cedars is a really wonderful plastic surgeon. I have had pierced ears for many years and over the years wearing heavy earrings had pulled the openings down so much that they were practically through my ear lobe. I found Dr. Cedars online and decided to see what advice or help he could offer. He did a procedure where he essentially sewed up the openings so that my piercings now look like the small discrete holes in my earlobes that they originally were. This was with a minimum of pain and no subsequent scarring. Dr. Cedars was clearly very experienced at this procedure. He explained it down to the last detail and made sure to answer all of my questions. He has a very nice bed side manner; I never felt rushed. His assistant Jamie is quite nice too. read more
