On top of it all.....she didn't even refund my friend for making the hair on her face 10 times worse than it was prior to the treatments. I got fillers with Dr. Brozowski. She was brusque and rough and I got a mother of a black eye. When I went back in to get it looked at, the women at the front desk were really shocked by my appearance -- the doctor just said, "oh you bruise easily." She also suggested I get filler in the "11's" between my eyebrows. She didn't mention any risk. Since she's an MD I said yes and was horrified later on to discover this is a very high risk area and many injectors will not inject there. read more

I though how wonderful it would be to have someone who did both western and eastern med (as she claims) but what that really means is she brings someone into the office once a week for eastern medicine and charges you extra (way above market price). I was having anxiety over a year regarding a short term event. She gave me meds that didn't work and made me gain 50 lbs in 3 months! Then she blamed ME for the weight gain and added a schizophrenia medication (WHAT THE HELL) that was later recalled because it killed people with a chronic condition that I also have. I've been going to her for about 5 years and, for the past 3 or so, have seen her exclusively for cosmetic services to help me.... well, you know. I won't expose myself by saying WHICH services I'm currently getting but I will say that if you are committed to taking care of your skin, Dr. Brozowski will help you get onto a schedule of services that will really help you and, quite possibly, avoid ever having to take more drastic measures, if ya know what I mean. I had her as a GP and not as a dermatologist based on recommendations from the Berkeley Planning Network site. Don't believe everything you read. This was in 2003. Went in with constipation and bloating and went to see her for what ended up to be a 10 minute "conversation" about how I needed to diet and eat more apples. She was pretty keen though on having me buy the skin care lines she sold directly out of her office. WTF?? Left feeling like a moron went to go get a second opinion by switching primary physicians. Ended up that my birth control had failed. And I had to wait another 3 weeks because of HMO rules and had to work that shit out. I did like the microderm I got, but looking back, I'm like, um, why did you let me know suffer when another doctor got me Rx the same day? I have to agree with Rachel F. about upselling your dead neighbor's aunt. I also have to add when I got the microderm, they mentioned some cool vitamin-C serum that would be perfect to use after the procedure. I said I probably couldn't afford it now. You'd think they'd let me sample a little bit to see how great it was (considering I just dropped some $ on the microderm), but instead the woman's face fell as she put the box back under the counter and said, "Well...maybe next time, then." I went to Dr. Brozowski four years ago as a GP patient. I was looking for a Dr. who had a good bedside manner, was professional, and timely. Wow, Dr. Brozowski failed on all counts. I kept trying to go back and see what all the good referrals (non-cosmetic) were about, but I never found anything remotely positive to say about this practice. The staff was haughty and unhelpful and the Dr. about the same. Now that every GP in the state has a "cosmetic" practice I understand why I failed to connect - I wasn't the patient she wanted. I wish I was smart enough to have read this comments before seeing Dr. B. I went to her to have my bikini area lasered. The experience was extremely painful and very, very exensive. And yes, as the other reviewers wrote-she often recommended I buy expensive products. After the package of 5 (I think) were used up, she had the gall to say the results looked great and I should buy another package as I am a "god responder". I would say that I am anything but since I have now had about 15 treatments (10 were before her) and there's still hair growth. She's great. I don't know what all this other people are complaining about. She does what she advertises. Got the smartlipo. Toned my core. Botox/fillers. Filled the wrinkles. When i told her I did not see big improvements she said it was due to my dark complexity. Why didn't she say that in the first place? Once I arrived 5 min late to my appt and she did not take me. Avoid, avoid, avoid. Bait and switch tactics! I just received a newsletter from her office which reminded me to write a Yelp review to warn others of their fraudulent practices. Last year, I went in for a consultation and was convinced to try laser therapy for my broken capillaries and acne scars. Dr. Brozowski left the room and the nurse or nurse practioner came in to start applying the numbing creme. I confirmed the cost for the procedure with the nurse at $300. She said Yes, and this would include spot treatments over my entire face. "Since you don't have many broken capillaries, the doctor will be able to spend some time on your other discolorations. Now, are there any freckles or moles you want to keep? Because if there are, we can make sure the doctor doesn't treat them." The nurse said the doctor would use the laser on all of my scars and freckles and she applied the cream over all of these spots. Then I went to the laser room and the Doctor came in, spent about 45 seconds on my broken capililaries and said we were finished. I was dumbfounded. I asked about the other spots, and she said "oh, you've had so much intense laser for the broken capillaries, that's all we can do for today. You'll have to come back for a second session or a peel." Talk about bait and switch! I paid the front desk and left. But on my drive home I pulled over and called the front desk, demanding some sort of clarification. I said I had been misled, agreed to the cost of the treatment under false pretenses, and then was conned in effect by the doctor and the nurse. The receptionist scrambled and fumbled, and ultimately said she had to speak to the doctor and she would call me back. When she did call me back she said the doctor was very busy and that was basically the reason she didn't complete the full spot treatments as promised by the nurse. There was nothing I could do. I had already paid for the treatment and I felt like an idiot. Then I started reading the Yelp reviews. So my biggest mistakes was not reading these reviews before going to my appointment. Every time I came in and complained that the outrageously expensive crap she had sold me was clearly giving me acne, she insisted I needed to stick with it and it would get better. Finally my friends encouraged me to have a brain of my own and just stop using it. She's friendly at first, but ultimately I found Dr. Brozowski self-absorbed, dismissive, expensive, and irritating. Like the last reviewer, I also switched to a different dermatologist for the rest of my laser hair removal and found that it hurt a helluva lot less at the new place. I went in for facial fillers and she would not answer questions (too arrogant) because you mustn't take her time, she's got to get your money and then the next patient's money, as quickly as possible. I asked to be tested for allergic reaction, to which she replied, "I don't ever test. I used to but it's a waste of time because it NEVER happens." Guess what, I had an allergic reaction. When you call her office and schedule botox, you are told that she charges by zone, not amount. I was super excited to have the peace of mind of knowing exactly what I was spending in advance. HOWEVER, during my appointment, I told her what I usually had done and my expectations, but I could tell she had injected very little (based on my experience). A few weeks later, unsurprising, I saw very little results, so went in for a touch-up. She was very rude, saying I hadn't listened to her during the first appointment and that her patients in Northern California prefer the natural look, leaving a lot of lines and movement. All my botox has been done in Northern California, so I am not sure who her clients are, but why would anyone pay for botox that didn't want to see results? In the end, she did the touch-up but walked out of the room without saying good-bye. I am bummed because her office is so close to my house and her staff was AMAZING. Now I know why she charges by zone and not amount. I ALSO want to add that during my first appointment, I had talked to her about other procedures. She said that smart lipo (under the chin) would tighten everything up including skin, HOWEVER as soon as she walked out, I was going over options and pricing with her assistant (who was lovely) about smart lipo. AND, the assistant said that actually, "smart lipo will not tighten and that it really only is a good choice for older people who are already used to creping" because it leaves so much hanging wrinkly skin. Their conflicting comments is a huge red flag. Also, my instinct was to trust the receptionist who had nothing to lose or gain and just sees the patients coming in and out. I couldn't really get a feel for if any of the other procedures truly work. The only thing that I know works is botox, and that's the thing, she wanted to skimp on. :( read more

I saw Dr. Brozowski a few years ago to look into laser hair removal. Went to a few treatments with her, and thought that the tear inducing pain was to be expected. Have since switched to another place in San Francisco, and am here to tell you that kind of pain IS NOT NORMAL! Dr. Brozowski's office is also more expensive, probably because she's providing the services directly instead of an RN, which most places do, but it's not worth it. I've also heard from two separate friends who went in for consultations for skin care services and were made to feel horrible about their skin and that they needed so spend outrageous amounts of money to remedy the problems. As much as I love the East Bay, I'm the first to admit that for some things you gotta cross the bridge. read more

I think Dr. Brozowksi is quite good at what she does. She is always very thoughtful about the treatments and listens carefully to what I need and want. Her office is comfortable, she is typically on-time, and her staff is very helpful. My experience is that things like peels and dermabrasion will never dramatically change the quality of your skin, but make small improvements that may or may not be worth. Since I am a cranky freak In the summer of 2005 I was looking for a doctor to address some nasty photo-aging/skin texture issues around my chin/mouth area that is discusting. Not having a direct reference from a friend or family member, I searched around on the Web. Under the "Dermatologist" heading on the Berkeley Parents Network, I found Dr. Christine Brozowski. (http://parents.berkele...) First of all (and this is important), she does NOT have her M.D. in dermatology and calling yourself a "cosmetic dermatologist" is nowhere near the same thing as being a "dermatologist". She is a "Cosmetic & General Practice Physician." At the time, I did not understand this (as always, caveat emptor) and I met with her for a consultation describing that I would like to have the texture around my chin/mouth look smoother, as well as decrease the crinkly-looking skin on my neck. The procedure she recommended to me was an Obagi Blue Peel. I read about the procedure and thought that it might help. It was one month before they could fit me in for the peel, and in that time I was laid off from my job. I subsequently let Dr. Brozowski know of this as I as concerned about spending $800+ dollars when I was about to be living off of savings. She replied that, in fact, this would be a great time for the peel...(I imagine due to the fact that I would look freakish post-peel for about one week - and, indeed, I did look like I'd just returned from a vacation on the Sun.) Suffice to say that the peel did absolutely nothing to improve the texture of my skin. Eventually, I went back to Dr. Brozowski's office to meet with her and bitch and complain. Her response was that the skin around my eyes "looked brighter" which drew attention away from the gross texture of the skin around my mouth/chin. And, of course, she recommended further blue peel treatments...Unbelievable. This woman is a high-priced aesthetician at best. If you have concerns about photo-aging and skin texture, seek the service of an M.D. who is a real dermatologist as I am still A hidious freak. read more

I saw Dr. Brozowski a few years ago as general practitioner. I had an eye infection. She was rude, spent 5 or 6 minutes with me while standing by the door as I was sitting in the patient chair. Of the short time she spent with me most of it was she talking about her horse getting eye infections, and every time I tried to say something she would cut me off so she could hear herself talk about her horse. read more

I had previously had this procedure done in San Francisco and it was great! However, the commute plus parking and toll was pretty expensive so I went to her. I wasn't smart and didn't read any reviews. Due to the mild redness I had experienced at the other location, I decided to book during my lunch break. Big mistake because this wanna be doctor turned that setting so high that my face bubbled up and scared pretty bad. I had brown scab all over my face, and it took 2 months for my face to heal. I have seen "Dr. Beauty" several times for cosmetic dermatology. Yes, she is expensive. Yes, they will try to sell you products and/or services. Yes, Dr. B is a bit haughty, but tries to act like your girlfriend. Yes, she will rush you through your procedure. Does my skin look better? Yes, a bit. Just to follow-up: I went to three sessions of photofacial that included the spot treatment of pigmented lesions and broken capillaries and I am very happy with the results. It was a tad expensive (about $1000) but it really made a HUGE difference. I had alot of very visible sun spots and dark freckels that are either barely noticeable now or completely GONE - we are talking dozens of dark spots. I also had a birth mark on the side of my face that has significantly lightened. The my skin texture has improved, I have less flushing and even the pores of my nose are smaller! The assistant at the front desk gave me lots of samples of items to try some of which I really liked (the sunscreens). I can't compare her to others, but I have been very pleased with my results. read more

I recently left California and moved to Raleigh North Carolina. While unpacking my boxes I found an old insurance card, (with Dr. Brozowski's name on it) back when Dr. Brozowski was my GP in Berkeley. This woman is the worst doctor I have ever been to. When I was seeing her, I discovered that I had diabetes. I went misdiagnosed as a type 2 diabetic for months (even though I turned out to be type1). I was 21 years old at the time, scared to death and this woman gave me a Rx for metformin and a handout, and sent me on my way. When the pills did not work, she actually accused me of not taking them. She was completely uncaring and unprofessional. When I saw that old card, I felt compelled to search for her and write a review, stay away from her, she is really not a good practitioner. read more

I kind of have a love/hate relationship with Dr. Brozowski. Contrary to what others have said about a rude, brusk personality, I find exactly the opposite. She's very talkative, remembers and asks about things going on in my life, and we have good conversations. However, I've had very mixed experiences with her treatments. Several years ago I had a series of bikini lazer hair removal. About 6 months after the series of 5 or 6 treatments, EVERY hair had grown back. Very disappointing - and it was not cheap! I've also been getting Botox treatments from her, with mixed results. The first time, my eyelids drooped badly. Uncommon reaction, but I looked like a freak for 3 months. She agreed not to give injections in certain places that would cause eyelid drooping, and things were great for a couple of years. Then, at a recent appointment, she started injecting into those taboo areas! I stopped her halfway through, and said "What are you doing? We're not supposed to inject there!" Her response was, "Well, I'm only doing a small amount in those locations, so it shouldn't be a big deal." My guess is, she forgot to read my chart. Needless to say, I've been dealing with droopy eyelids for the last few months. Yuk. I haven't decided yet if I'm going back to her or not. read more
