If I could give negative stars, I would. Please, if you read this, DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE. We have two dogs and one of them had been groomed at a great place for nearly 4 years. When we got our second dog, we decided to give Shaggy Chic a try since they were so close to home. They did a great job the first couple of times so we decided to go ahead and take our other dog there too. We have a Cavapoo and a Bernedoodle. They both came home today looking absolutely terrible. Our Cavapoo had gone a couple of weeks over his normal grooming schedule due to the change and when we dropped them off they mentioned some matting and they would have to cut him short. We said we understood and as an owner of a breed like this, in Florida, you know matting can happen especially in the hot summer if their hair starts to get long. He has been cut short a few times in the summer and we agreed a short cut was ok. Not long after dropping them off, I got a call saying that the Bernedoodle was also matted. I told her I didn't feel anything on her and I've been brushing her regularly. She then claimed that her legs were matted near the bottom of her legs and she would have to cut her legs short. I hesitantly said ok and nervously hung up the phone. 6 hours later, we get a text that they are ready and could not believe our eyes when we picked them up. The Cavapoo was shaved down to almost bare skin on EVERY INCH of his body. All hair on his tail is GONE, they even shaved off every single whisker! This is a dog that had been previously meticulously groomed and we had worked very hard on his tail. The Bernedoodle was also shaved down and bare in areas like her ears, paw and top of tail. They clearly don't know breed cuts at all and quite honesty, I think they were lazy and did not want to take the time to cut them right. After my husband was able to process what happened and really get a good look at them, he called to ask them what happened and they were very rude claiming that they told us on the phone they had to shave them. No, they never told us they were going to absolutely shave him bare. They claimed that the last groomer was mean and mistreated him if they cut the matting. The truth is, the previous groomer took her time and worked through them. I regret ever leaving her. My husband then proceeded to tell her that she was not being honest and asked her to admit how bad the dogs look to which she replied that our dogs were neglected and abused and we weren't welcome back and then hung up on him. This is laughable. Anybody who knows us or our dogs, knows that is far from the truth. Lastly, the Cavapoo has been sick since he's been home, even having blood in his stools. I can't imagine the trauma that happened to him and how they must have mistreated him. I'm not sure what happened in there today but I don't think it was good or healthy for the dogs. Oh, and to top it off, our bill for the two of them was $320 and they make you pay before you even see the dog. Save your dog the trauma, and yourself the regret and go somewhere else. read more

I love this place! I have had two of my dogs groomed here! A Shih Tzu and mini dachshund. The owner is excellent with dachshunds and all dogs of any shape and size. She loves on them, practices verbal affirmation and encourages good behavior. This is the ONLY place that actually trims and files my dogs nails the right way! I wish she offered boarding or dog training! She's wonderful and so are the services they offer. They are busier than they used to be which makes it difficult for them to answer the phone every time it rings, but this place is worth it if you want your dog cared for while having a service done. Prices are matched to just about anywhere in Jax, I'm a Florida native and have used a plethora of vet clinics, stores and grooming spas. For price and quality it is spot on to me. I'll be back every 4-5 weeks for my dogs service. read more

The owner is a bully, abrupt, mean owner. Apparently overwhelmed with the shop schedule she can't handle professionally and rude. I do not trust leaving my Maltese with her whatsoever. We are so disappointed. The former groomer, Julie was amazing with our Maltese prior. We were customers of this shop from 4/2021-5/2022 with Julie. Liz never did our pet then. But Julie moved, so we decided giving Liz a try. 2nd visit. Now both times at pickup Liz insulted us, was harsh, stating she didn't believe in vaccines, pressure to use her food marketing products, use her vet & bullied us) Our 2nd pickup was unbelievable, she was downright mean & was obviously having meltdowns. She just went off when we paid her. She charged 2x cost of her former groomer last year, (1rst $140, 2nd $113, we even tipped high 25%) when we use to pay $88 which included express $25) the justification she claimed our baby hard handle, shaved her tail (I see other reviews same tail shaved-horrible), claimed overweight, just unbelievable poor customer service. We use to pay half what she charged for over a year, then she doubled our cost. (?). We paid over $250 within 5 weeks. Claimed she struggled grooming our dog. She had just groomed our pet 5 wks prior. She makes up excuses to blame for her lack of experience & professionalism. I have had all my small dogs groomed & vet care visits regularly for 40 plus years. Never ever experienced a off the chain groomer go off on me about the weight of our dog who is small. Her pics show dogs much larger, yet she picks on us. Owner is not a medical vet but pushes animal medical advice. We have regular vet care by a professional. Owner took without our authorized consent, Business promo pics and is using a photo of our pet on her Facebook to promote her business, and we have demanded she delete it immediately, we want no affiliation with her or this shop ever again. She refuses to take it down. What a heartbroken feeling to think we left our Maltese with her. NEVER EVER. DO NOT RECOMMEND. Liz is 200% appears to be over her head, unexperienced, and, unstable to groom animals. The shop is not clean anymore, lacks the care her other groomer provided us. Lesson learned. All groomers are not the same, even in same shop. I just keep thinking what our Maltese went thru when there. Terrible feeling that we entrusted her with her terrible behavior. I hope she decides to close and stop being a groomer so someone else or animal doesn't experience what we went thru. Unfortunately, unless others complain and publish an awareness, she will be doing this to pet owners and their pets. No i dont want to be insulted when picking up my pet. Please be aware, and stay clear of this shop and this groomer. read more

When I called to make an appointment I asked for a price range and the lady told me $48-50. When I went to drop off my dog I specifically asked if they paint the dog nails and she says yes. Once you get there you have to fill out some forms and in one of them it talks about a $10 extra fee if the dog's hair is tangle (I've never heard of this before) Another thing I don't like was that they don't ask for your dog's vaccine records, why??? I don't know but I feel like it's not safe at all. But I still decided to give them a try since I'm new to Jax. Before I left, I explained to her how I wanted my poodle's haircut. When I arrived my dog's hair wasn't cut the way I wanted and her nails weren't painted. Plus they charged me $70 are you kidding me? Service wise, they were 2 nice ladies, but I would def not be coming back. read more

Extremely disappointed when I picked up my girls. Won't recommend at all!! Both my girls are poodles, very displeased with their heads. Plus I was told my small poodle tried to bite the groomer. It wasn't until I got them home, that both girls had to go to the vet. Based on inflamed feet, and my little one has an infection which they didn't pick up on? Just spoke negatively of her and charged extra. Now I have both babies on three meds for inflamed feet and flaming red ears. read more

I usually don't post reviews but I had a really good experience at Shaggy Chic today so I decided to share. I took my two Maltese muts Nacho and Lola for a full groom and Elizabeth did a great job. I dropped them off at 9 am and they called me at 11:40 to let me know they were done. When I came to get them the pups looked great and were happy. The girls at Shaggy Chic were also kind and patient with my doggies. They gave me some useful information about my dogs skin allergies and sensitivities. I had been going to the same groomer for over 7 years and just recently moved to the area. I am a choosy dog mom and if I don't like something I don't come back. This businesd has become too expensive. They have almost doubled their prices from their earlier days, when my dogs were among their first clients. It seems like they would appreciate long tome patrons. The other thing is that I was told my dogs had certain skin conditions, which unless the veterinarians are wrong, were misdignosed by these groomers. Additionally, it is unprofessional to be passively aggressive, by talking about people loudly. read more

The first thing I have to say about Shaggy Chic is that this is one of the first truly CLEAN grooming salons I've been in. The groomer's skills are also many many notches above what you'll find elsewhere in jacksonville! Do not go to Shaggy Chic Pet Spa. Liz the owner was very rude and quoted me $48 dollars over the phone and then charged $58 at pickup and then made comments like "since you finally picked him up we can go home now" I dropped him off less than 3 hours ago... it's not like he was there all day and was 3pm on a Friday, look at the time listed, they are open until 5pm. When I told her you don't treat customers that way, she said we wouldn't be allowed back....As if we would ever use this place again. Do not trust your dog to be groomed with such rude people. It's sad because we were trying to support our local community businesses, but won't be surprised when she goes out of business around here. If you love your dog, do not trust these people. If you do need a place to go, use Julington Creek Animal Walk on San Jose. We should of never gone elsewhere, but were trying to support very close local businesses, but back to fighting San Jose traffic for quality of service. *what motivated me to post this was not so much the increase in price, but how awful she was as a person and business owner. I cannot believe people like this own a business and have consistent customers. read more

My Wife took our Yorkshire Terrier in for a grooming Friday and came away completely disappointed to say the least. She brought a picture of how she wanted the cut. We have had many dogs over the last 25 years all of which required grooming. We are loving and experienced dog owners. Our dog was a 4 yr old mini Yorkie LONG HAIR and is now a very very short haired Yorkie, to our complete surprise! During the initial consultation, it was discussed that we wanted a "trim" and to keep the long hair. There was also discussion about some minor matting underneath. My wife was not informed that that would change the cut we requested. I went in to discuss this with the owner and left completely upset as they would not admit their error. I asked why they did not call if there was an issue keeping our request and the answer was, "we discussed this with your wife". This completely untrue and further documents the utter disregard for our wishes. NEVER AGAIN! read more

Terrible. I've been going to Shaggy Chic for over a year. They do a good job with grooming but their service is a horrible. I made an appoint almost two weeks ahead for 9:30 AM. I dropped him off at the designated time. At 1:10 PM I called to see if my small dog was ready and she said they hadn't started him yet and probably wouldn't for awhile and to call back in an 1 1/2 hours. It's 15 minutes to get their shop and I had a Halloween party I was taking him to and couldn't wait that long as I was in charge of setting up the activity. I explained that to them and told them not to do anything then and I would simply pick him up in 15 minutes. I got there at 1:30 PM and they told me I owed them $58.00. I said, "What?" And she responded - well we bathed him and cut around his face and trimmed his nails. My response was - "Wait, I thought you said you couldn't work on him for at least another hour. Why would you do something like this?" She went and got a woman from the back who was grooming (possibly the owner I don't know) and she said, "Look, I could have made an appointment with another dog and made money. It's our policy so you owe us the money." I said, "but I asked you not to do anything and it's been over 4 hours and you did nothing and I made an appoint for 9:30 AM in the morning." She responded that she needed to make money and there were four bigger dogs ahead of mine. I said this it not right and I've always been a good customer. She said she was a mom and had kids. I said, "wait, I'm a single mom with kids too." She shrugged her shoulders, turned her back to me and went back to the back. I paid the $45.00 and left. I'll never return although this establishment could care less about that - it's only about making money for them. They do not care about treating people and the pets fairly. Again, it's only about making money. The good news is there's a great grooming place right down the street on San Jose that costs less, does a great job and has a two hour turn around. They are respectful to the pet owners and kind to the pets. Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. read more
