I had my backyard pool demoed and was looking at a lot of dirt and old plantings. I need to have the whole thing redone. I tried a number of landscapers, some didn't bother giving me a quote. I had one on deposit, but they never contacted me after making the deposit electronically, I had to chase after them to get a response. So, I called Shafer, and Keith came out in spite of me telling him I was probably going to go with the original company, as they had gotten back to me and gave me reassurances. Keith runs the company, and they only take on one job at a time. They do everything, and Keith provided a lot of great ideas, and came in a lot lower in cost. So seeing as the first company was showing true to some of the Yelp reviews of poor communication, I went with Shafer. I'm really, really, really glad I did. If I could give less I would. Make sure you get everything in writing and consider the payment schedule before agreeing to the contract. Do not make any changes or he will continue to increase the price even if you are reducing the work or materials. He did not honor our contract and refused to finish the job due to a delay in from our homeowner's association. Steer clear!!! read more

Keith and his crew are the consummate professionals. He came the same day I called regarding get rid of an unsightly, pool size pond and replacing it with a stream(which was what it was supposed to be) and placing lights on my fence columns( which were also in original design). His price was more than fair and he met my needed deadline for completion a week early. The crew arrived early in the mornings and worked diligently all day, cleaning up after themselves. They replanted my landscaping in other parts of my yard; broke up all the old concrete, including a large waterfall; installed lantern lights on the columns and walkways, and replaced my aged tree-lighting. I now have a beautiful, remote-controlled, water-conserving stream with lovely new plants and a well-lit yard. I am so happy that I am having Keith redo the rest of my 1/2 acre this spring. My son is having him terrace and landscape the slope and create rest of backyard in his new home next week. My daughter is waiting her turn! Keith showed up when he was scheduled. He walked the property with me and identified the major areas of concern. I called him because the previous landscaper installed new drip systems, new valves and several trees etc. My husband and I have watched as the trees (expensive BTW) died and our plants struggled. Mr Shafer correctly named our plants and noted the problems with our watering system. Before he left, he adjusted the sprinkler timer and explained how the plants and property need more than our current three programs for watering. Keith has just finished a second project for me and I am just as happy as I was with the first! Last year I had Keith and his crew install a large retaining wall across my backyard. It turned out better than I had anticipated and I have had several people compliment the design (just about everyone who has come through my backyard)! Keith was quick, professional, knowledgeable and extremely patient with me when I asked all kinds of questions! He has a knack for explaining things in a way that make sense to those of us who don't understand landscaping, grade, drains, concrete, etc. I have learned quite a bit from him in fact. Just last week I had him return to pour a concrete patio, RV parking on the entire side of my house, extended driveway area and an extension to the walkway leading to my front door. Everything went very smoothly, I couldn't be more pleased with the way my yard is coming along (both front and back). I did get other estimates each time just to be sure the pricing was where it should be. Keith was slightly higher on the concrete but was willing to come down to match another quote when I let him know what it was. I then had the other guy come down further but I was willing to pay the extra $300 since I knew Keith's work would be exceptional. After the concrete was completed he even came back a few days later and installed an exterior outlet for me which he didn't charge anything extra for.
