Beware: unskilled seamstress The staff at Shadyside Valet are very friendly and welcoming and they do a great job with my dry cleaning. However, I would definitely not recommend the seamstress who comes in there once a week. I dropped off a semi-formal dress and asked that the hem be let out 1 inch. When I returned a week later to pick it up, the stitching looked terrible (large, highly visible stitches all along the bottom of my dress) and on top of that, the seamstress charged $50! I will have to pull out the stitches and hem it by hand myself. If you need alterations, go somewhere else! read more

I don't usually write reviews, but when a local business treats it's customers like complete trash, it warrants a review. For background, I have lived in the east end for over 30 years. I just got married this summer, and I brought my wedding dress, my husbands **only** winter jacket, and my winter jacket to shadyside valet in the afternoon of November 5. The apparent owner/manager of the place proceeded to give me a very hard time about my wedding dress, making incredibly rude comments in front of a line of customers concerning how dirty it was (whose wedding dress survives their wedding unscathed?). It wasn't that bad, and I was clearly uncomfortable but dodging the comments with "I had a good time" etc. it cost $180 to press my dress. I'm spending some money here- be professional. I think not making customers feel uncomfortable about the state of their clothing is actually the only way a dry cleaner needs to be professional. She then proceeded to talk to the next customer in line about my dress as I left, saying "omg did you see this?" I don't believe this is the first time she saw a used wedding dress... there was some grass stains at the bottom and a couple spots? On November 9, my husband goes to pick up the 2 coats and the wedding dress. When he looks at his coat at home, it has lint and pieces of stuff all over it. He gets around to taking it back to be cleaned again on November 16. The woman insists to him she didn't not clean the jacket. She did. On November 18, I go to pick it up. I tell her the backstory and how I don't have a slip because the coat cleaning should be free. She proceeds to scoff at me and say "this isn't fee" and I said "well it should be the coat had stuff all over it when we got it back" and then she argues with me that they never cleaned the coat because it has leather on it and they have to send those out. I tried to jog her memory with my wedding dress and how she might recall how she made some rude comments to me. Refused to accept responsibility. Voided the sale however unhappily. Continued to argue with me - like I know where I go and I know my (husbands) clothes. We get home, the coat has the November 9 tag on it still from when we took it proving her wrong!!! (See photo) The leather lining on the pockets is peeling - because she cleaned it the first time when she shouldn't have per her own guidelines because it has leather. (See photo) So not only did she shame me for my wedding dress, she ruined my husbands jacket, denied she ever cleaned it, and argued with me about my own memory, and was going to make me pay for it twice!!! Every time I go this woman treats me like complete shit. I don't know what happened to her but she has a big chip on her shoulder. She's miserable and treats her customers with utter disrespect. There are other dry cleaners and though I've stuck with this one, I'm never going back. I recommend taking your clothing elsewhere so that you're not shamed, your clothes aren't ruined, and you don't get ripped off ! read more

Great experience!! I brought in a vintage sweater with beaded butterflies that is very special to me and they dry cleaned it beautifully. When I brought it in the woman who works at the front (I never caught her name but she was lovely!!) wasn't sure about how the beads would do with the dry cleaning process so she told me she would speak to her manager and get back to me. If they felt the beads would get ruined I could just pick it up later (free of charge of course). I dropped it off towards the end of the day so she called me first thing the next morning (truly one minute after they opened) and she said they thought it would be fine and that she would give me a call when it was done to let me know how it turned out. One hour later she called me and told me it dry cleaned beautifully and that it was ready for pick up! Such great service! I picked it up today and her and her manager were so nice. I don't have many things dry cleaned but from now on this is my go-to place! read more

I had been searching for a reasonably priced drycleaner in the East End for months with no success when I stumbled upon Shadyside Valet. I have had items drycleaned and shirts laundered and pressed for several months now. I have also had a vinyl bag and a skirt repaired. Everything is always done well, and I have never had to wait more than a few days for my items to be finished. The staff is very friendly, and there is usually never a wait. Everything is reasonably priced-about $6 for a skirt or pants, $11 for a suit, and $8 for a dress. Considering the many over-priced alternatives, I was so happy for find this place! This place is horrible. I walked in last Tuesday night to drop off a coat that needed to be mended - the lining had ripped in several places. As I entered, one of the workers (or managers) was on the phone absolutely screaming. She looked at me as I entered and continued yelling at the top of her lungs. I almost pivoted and got the hell out of there. But another worker, who was very nice came over to help me. I showed her the areas that needed mending and she wrote it all down and attached the instructions to the coat. She then took down my name and number and gave me an official ticket, telling me it would be ready no later than Saturday - but possibly even sooner. So I show up with me ticket on Monday night, almost a week later. I hand a worker the ticket but then see my coat rolled up into a ball in a pile off to the side. She and another worker yank my coat out of the heap and then very defensively start saying that the seamstress didn't know what to do with my coat because there were no instructions. I unfurl my coat and show the the instructions that are still attached to the coat label. Neither say anything. Then I ask why I wasn't called about the coat if there was confusion. They then say they didn't know how to contact me. I show them my ticket with my name and phone number. Ridiculously unprofessional workers at this place. I grabbed my coat and tore out of there. Angry with myself for not trusting my first instinct to stay clear of this place. You are warned! Enter at your own risk! read more

Terrible dry cleaners! Poor customer service. I have gone there for convenience sake, but ultimately, I spend more time pointing out their poor quality and returning a second and third time to fix their mistakes than actually saving time. I made the mistake of not inspecting my items at the counter, and when I bring them back the next day, saying that they are still dirty, they have the nerve to make me pay for it again. I will never go there again, and I recommend you don't either. read more

This place was a life saver! I got into town late afternoon yesterday and it was pouring. I dropped the dress I was to wear today to a wedding in a huge puddle as I was trying to get stuff out of my car. After talking to them on the phone, they insured me that they could ha e it done by noon today in time for me to wear it. Everyone was busy but so nice to me. And they did a great job with my dress! Horrible customer service and attitude. The only reason I brought a suit in to be dry cleaned was to get a button fixed. Not only did they not fix the button but they broke 2 others. When I showed them, they said not our responsibility. And the woman said she didn't break them, the machine did. Well, duh, thanks... I know you didn't break the buttons (although she was so nasty I guess she needed to explain that to others). Needless to say will not be returning. Stay away. read more

I have taken my clothes to Shadyside Valet for the last six months and have had mixed results. Just recently I have given them a pair of pants with rain splatter below the knee for a third time, having pointed it out when dropping it off each time, and received it back with no progress made on the splatter. Although this is hard to define, I also find that my shirts seem to be "beat up" after a few times through their care. They also staple the ID tags to the tag of the garment for dry cleaning, which a) is a bitch to pull out with your fingernails or otherwise and b) shows a level of disrespect to the clothing that bothers me. A very wise man once told me that if you aren't receiving the level of service you require from your dry cleaner depsite repeated instructions, it is time to move on. I'm currently looking for a new dry cleaner. read more

They do not take pride in their work. While clothes are usually cleaned and pressed well, they do not make an effort beyond that. If you ask them to take out a stain, they don't. Clothes given for repairs or tailoring are done right about half the time, the rest of the time they get lost. If you ask them to do two things to a garment, that is way beyond them -- will do the hem but not the button, etc. They also lose things, more than once. Do not take your clothes there because they will damage or lose them. read more

Shady Side Valet is the best. The service was great! The owner, Jerry, was friendly and extremely helpful. He made sure all of my dry cleaning was perfect, and took the time to talk to me person. My suits looked like new, and the tailoring was exact. I'm new to the area. Jerry and his crew made me feel like I was a life-time customer, which I will be from now on. Great work Mr. Jerry & crew.
