We we love the fireplace seating, the server was ok, even though there was a miscommunication. After being seated, we asked what we could get (meaning as wine club members). Kevin said we could have "whatever we wanted". We've been members since pre-pandemic. We acknowledged what he said, and started ordering wine. I noticed the large pours after about the 2nd pour, but I honestly thought they were being generous. Merlot was nice and so was the Jon Rae. We hadn't visited Shadowbrook since November 2022, so figured they were just being nice, or maybe policy had changed. We loved the food. Had the $50 charcuterie platter which was nicely put together but a bit overpriced, and the fish and chips which was fantastic, even for $35, and I don't remember what else we had. After our 2 hour appointment was up, the bill came and we were shocked and appalled that the bill was over $300! Kevin was apologetic, and TRIED TO SAY I ORDERED GLASSES OF WINE, WHICH WAS NOT TRUE. I wrote an email to the tasting room manager who provided a response using a cut and paste generic response. I didn't expect compensation, only acknowledgment of what happened and better communication from the staff. This left a bad taste in my mouth. Owners seem to be dry and uncaring, and they make 0 eye contact and don't even say hello. My husband and I are members at 6 different wineries, so decided to cancel our membership at least for now. Previous visits were amazing. I gave a 5 star review back in November 2022, only because we had an amazing server. I came here 2 weeks ago with my friend for some afternoon wine! We called an hour before and were able to snag a reservation for 2 out on their patio. This was our first visit to the winery although I've been following them on Instagram since they opened. I was pleasantly surprised at how developed and gorgeous the winery was. It has a private gated entrance safely tucked away on its own property. The vineyard was beautiful and the patio was as well. Not to mention the service was amazing! Very friendly people without being too clingy. We decided to get the meat charcuterie board and a bottle of Pinot Noir ($42). The wine was delicious and very well priced. I was so happy after this visit and will definitely bring my entire family here. I have mentioned this spot to many of my friends already because of how great my experience was! read more

My review on this place is mixed: great property and very nice views, no question there! They are also generous in how much they poured during the tasting. One can certainly have a good time there... when it comes to the wine itself it is average, we were disappointed overall. Well, everyone has a different taste. But the overall experience was not great: we were not greeted and had to find our way to the check-in. fine, no big deal. Then we waited for very long until anyone came up and the server we got clearly only had a few sentences memorized on the wine. She clearly was not a wine expert. Also fine. Then, 2 rounds before the end, the waiter disappeared. After waiting again for a while we asked someone else and she said that the waiter "already went to wash the dishes";)... she then poured us two glasses at once and left us to mind our business. This treatment was not horrible, but, well, it was not a great ending. Nobody ever showed up again, we went to the checkout and paid there. Also, got automatically added 17% tip, which is ok normally but I am not sure if that service justified that. Had a cheese plate with the tasting and one extra beer, overall over $250 for 3 people felt pretty expensive for this average experience at best (can not compare, I know, but you do 3-4 tastings like this for this money in Europe). read more

Went for an evening out with friends. Hadn't been in a couple of years. Location and ambience are great. Unfortunately, there were a few issues that would impact me going back. My guess, most stemmed from an inexperienced host. 1) Did the wine flight at $50, the cost was at same point as several mid level wineries in Napa/Sonoma. Ok with fhe $50.....but....no discussion about the wine being poured, never asked if we liked it, no repours, nothing off menu......just very limited and sterile compared to what you get in Napa/Sonoma. This was the high end flight.....that included merlot, chard and Syrah, petite syrah, with one cab.....pricey for these type of wines and very average pours. Note.....server brought out bottle of Merlot and there was barely any left. Simply gave us 3 short pours and the "bottom of the bottle" in the last person glass. 2) Food. Did pork medallion. 4 pieces of pork and 3 small potato balls $28. Also did pasta for two, which was mostly noodles with limited truffles - $65. Food was tasty. Portion size not very big and for basically $30+ each for a plate of noodles and very limited truffles, over priced. However, would recommend Brussels sprouts. 3) Service. Entrees served medium temp. Did not come to table hot. No serving utensils provided with any dish (sprouts, pasta for 2, shared ice cream). Again, no discussion about wine. When I asked about wine club the server couldn't tell me anything...."I will get you a brochure". 4) Automatic Gratuity at 17%! If it was an experience, I get it.....but it wasn't. Wine and Food priced on the high side for rural location in Walnut Creek. Service was mediocre and there were only 4 of us. Server received $40+ for serving cold food, pouring two glasses of wine for each of us and not spending anytime telling us about the product. My guess....must have been newer sever, as I could hear/see difference in what appeared to be more tenured folks. Just an OK experience, but really because of location convenience and the facility. Wine average and food portion/temp could use some work. 17% auto gratuity for party of 4 was on the high side for the service/engagement. Don't mind making the choice and often do pay close to 20%, but should do so feeling happy with experience. Worked out to $120 per person with tip and would have easily been $200 per person if we each ordered an entree. Would opt for bottle vs flight next time. Everybody pallet is different, but would go Merlot or Cab. read more

This winery offers beautiful outdoor views, good wine, and delicious bites with heated patios all nestled in Walnut Creek overlooking Mount Diablo. During my visit there were also deers trotting throughout the grounds. The reservation, check-in, and check-out process were easy and the service was wonderful. My husband and I love coming here for dates. If we have friends or family in town this is a must. This is a hidden gem in the Bay Area. I'm literally shocked when people say they haven't been here. The whole location is gorgeous. The second you walk in everyone is kind, very welcoming and it's such a fun vibe. Our server Kevin was awesome. He was very attentive. And Josh the Chef went above and beyond. He came over and talked with us about the menu, gave us some background and of course a few hilarious stories. Tim (the owner) even came by while we were playing corn hole & gave my husband some tips. Each staff member here genuinely cares about the winery and the guests. It feels like a family. My sister hosted my bridal shower at Shadowbrook back in October. While it is a beautiful winery, that is all I can really say about this venue. I had emailed the coordinator and the owner about many issues my guests & I experienced on my bridal shower day & I have yet to receive a reply back to address my multiple concerns. Horrible service & it is really disappointing that my email was left completely ignored. Definitely would not recommend any big event to be hosted here. read more

My friend and I ordered a bottle of wine and the server pretty much just drops the bottle at our table and leaves. Doesn't tell us anything about the wine or even fill out glasses. 30 min later we saw the server multiple times but he never asked how our wine was or if we wanted any food. One of the chefs Josh, was outstanding he even came over to our table to see how everything was. He was able to place our food order. I have been to this winery several times. I think the main reason they do well is that they are the only game in town and the beautiful natural scenery of Mt. Diablo. The food is overpriced and skimpy. 48 dollars for a charcuterie board that is incredibly sparse. If you want more crackers, you have to pay and they don't give you many to start. The margherita pizza was bland and tasteless. The tastings are Napa Valley priced which we think is gouging as they know, again, that they are the only winery in the area. Their wine is pretty good. If it were more reasonably priced, I'd say it is good but for the price, it should be better. The serving staff is generally friendly and responsive, but the biggest negative of this winery is the young woman who is the contact person on line and the onsite manager who handles everything, at least when we've been there. She is rude, condescending and just plain unfriendly. This is a sentiment shared by the other members of our party and my husband. I also see from reading previous reviews, that many people leave feeling the same way about her attitude. She is always like this. It's awful. Again, the setting is beautiful and the wine is good enough so it's fun to go there with your friends and have a short drive home. The Saturday night music is a nice addition. I really wish they would send the young woman managing the winery each time we've been there to etiquette school or something as she is just terrible to deal with. My friend said she is quitting the winery after her and her husband's last visit due to the manager's ongoing churlish attitude. read more

Just got back from a day of wine tasting and my wife and I could not be happier. We've been to 90% of the Napa Valley wineries and Shadowbrook beats them all. Incredible wines, great food, but the attention to details is what impressed us the most. It was 100 degrees outside today, and not one person was hot. I recognized the winery itself was built in a way to shade its visitors, and didn't need umbrellas or sun shades. When I asked our server about this topic, he informed me that no expense was spared making sure the consumer had a pleasant experience. Wine is ok a little over priced for the quality imo. So don't expect much for what you're paying. Setting is beautiful. Food was honestly pretty terrible. The only thing worse then the food was the service. The hostess was rude and the waitress was to busy talking to another table to serve us. We had a decent sized group and none of us will be back due to such poor service. I've seen other reviews saying the same about the service. Ownership should really correct this. Wanted to love this place, but was utterly disappointed! Tasting menu for $40 for 2 ounce pours of Sauvignon Blanc, Rose, and Chardonnay. That would've been just fine except the prices on the menu are $12/glass, $9/glass and $11/glass. Voiced my opinion and the manager stated that they had recently changed the menu, however did nothing about it except a coupon for a buy one get one free for next time. Very upset that it was $168 for a total of two glasses of wine and a cheese board. Beautiful location, however the price and lack of assistance would not be returning! Only rating two stars because the cheese board was good. (About $50) with no knowledge of what the cheese was except for ("local cheese retaining"). It's a very pretty spot centrally located in the Bay Area making it an afternoon at a winery instead of an entire day trip. I love that it's reservations only, so they aren't overwhelmed and understaffed. We were seated outdoors in the shade with a nice view of the grapevines. Pretty things to look at all around. We chose 3 different wine tastings within our group, ranging from $50-65, with 4 wines each, 2-3 oz pours. Everyone in our group loved their tastings. My choice was all blends and I couldn't have been happier. We had a small cheese plate with rich imported cheeses, and a butter course, which, being a Wisconsin girl, I absolutely appreciated!
