I live in a condo in Kaka'ako (Ae'o), in a studio and had been wanting to convert my old drapes to roller shades for some time. I cold called several window shade installers on yelp. Danny (Shades West) was the first to respond and quickly provided answers to all of our initial questions and was available a day or two later for a visit at our place. He had installed in our building before, so he knew all the procedures, where to park, all the logistics, etc. which was really convenient for us. We had a tricky install. We have a tilt and swing door that needed to remain operational but at the same time we wanted both black out shades and transparent shades that fit, accommodated the operable window, and complied with our house rules for modification. Danny was able to think outside the box and come up with a solution that was easy for us to understand. During the install, they did a great job, it was quick, everything fit like a drum, they left the place cleaner than when they arrived, and the roller shades looked and operated great. Side note: I couldn't find a place to board my dog while Danny and his crew worked, but Danny was really good with my dog and made friends with her while they were working. 5/5 Stars! Best selection and options for colors for my needs! Shades West's selection of roller shades was the best, along with awesome customer service. They use Norman roller shades/blinds, same as my name so I can't go wrong! I'd recommend scheduling an appointment with Shades West when the Sun is strongest, so you can see how the sample colors/shades look. Danny was really accommodating and will work with you, but might be tougher for afternoons appt, but can be worth the wait to schedule that time to get a better idea how much the sun blocks a 1%-3%-5% or full blackout. Keep in mind 1% can look like a diffused bright soft box (photography term) may not block the light as you'd expect so that's why it's good to figure this out. Once you pick your blinds, you'll get a quote and you can decide to move forward. When you say yes, you pay half as a deposit and pay the rest later. From ordering to installation it was super fast and did not take months, approximately 4 weeks! It may depend if it's a busy time of year. Initially I was a little concerned about the invoice as it wasn't too clear, but Shades West had done so many units in my building, I had to trust the process with a shake of a hand and know all would be good. And it was fine. If you feel you have questions, you can always ask, that's what I did to clear things up. Installation was fast, they got things installed done for a whole 2 bedroom condo in less than a whole day. There was an imperfection in one of the roller shades that Danny identified immediately during installation and ordered a replacement right away. He also bought his workers fancy sandwiches in Kakaako for their lunch break instead of the basic Subway down the street. Instead of asking what the problem is, you assume that I'm mistaken and that there's no way that it could've been you. When I texted asking why the appointment fell through, they made excuses saying that the specific vendor I requested didn't get back to them, but I had already agreed to see what they offered regardless. I tried to reschedule with them to get an estimate despite this, and when I asked for availability they told me they could see me after their first estimate appointment... so I don't see how the excuses for me not being scheduled were even valid at that point.
