We have single wall construction around new vinyl windows. We wanted to replace some space-eating drapes with some space efficient and light-giving shutters. Such shutters are manufactured off the island. As such, the measurements that the factory receives must be EXACT. The shipping logjam would make any do-over unbearable. And that's exactly what Jason did. The shutters arrives in precisely the dimensions they had to be. And it wasn't simple. Our window frames are so shallow that they had to build an external frame. Da Blind Guys are the installers for Bali blinds on Maui/LOWES. Unfortunately, they live on Oahu, so they only fly to Maui once a month. This is a problem if you need a repair or replacement, as it can take months to get something fixed, or replaced. I would not recommend them to install my blinds. Unfortunately, I had problems with my Bali Blind products, and with my installation, from day one. I gave Da Blind Guys 18 months to make it right, and because they were a small biz, and because COVID made everything more difficult, I waited in good faith. They didn't fix the issues and they are really bad about returning calls and texts, so now I feel like I have to leave a 1 STAR review, and here are the reasons why. As I mentioned both the product I received (Bali Blinds) and the installation were fraught with issues. The blinds were constantly getting caught on the electrical cords because they weren't tucked away from the moving parts. The remotes were also programed badly and the shades would "over roll" up and get stuck that way too. I did some trouble shooting with Bali on this in order to figure out what was happening. For something like a window covering that is supposed to be trouble free, my experience was anything but. Lowes/Bali were good about honoring their products and the defects, and offered me a full refund. Da Blind Guys were not as accommodating. They replaced one of the damaged blinds, but then the replacement blind ALSO got stuck on the cord. They flat out refused to come back a second time and fix my issues for over 18 months, and it was one of the reasons that I ended up getting a full refund from Lowes/Bali. I have attached a video link of the first installation, that was taken in August of 2019, to illustrate one of the issues that I had. Bought a house in Makakilo, and was looking at putting up curtains, but after seeing a lot of other houses, needed to put some real stuff up. Decided to go with plantation blinds down stairs, while using shades upstairs. After contacting Jason, he came out and showed us samples within the a week. We decided to have shades that rolled up and down in our upstairs windows, and within the month of picking out what we wanted, everything was good to go and installation took about 2 hours tops. Fast and reliable. The plantation shutters took a few months to arrive because we decided to go with a maker out in China because it saved us money, and the wait didn't bother us at all. The whole process was painless and awesome, Jason was very friendly, openly communicated when ever I texted him, and his family style business made choosing him so easy! I was hoping to use Da blind guys for my new home based on the reviews but when I tried Jason (owner) texted me back and said he would could stop by later that evening and asked what I was interested in. I replied this is my first time getting quotes and ordering blinds and asked if he had samples. His reply : "Got it dont have samples lowes has books" I asked if he had anything then he sent pictures via text.. I'm thinking if I'm gonna invest in thousands of dollars into my blinds I want to see and feel the merchandise. So I replied surprisingly " you don't have anything to show me?" Okay so then he texted "I do have samples but we need to narrow it down or we'll have a van full of samples" Then I said okay and said if he could come when my husband is home so we can choose together. The conclusion: still waiting for a reply.... I guess I gave a 1 Star because compared to my experience with budget blinds the customer service that I experienced was sub par. You'd think that Jason would be more willing to come by and bring some samples to gain my business.. He sounded short and lacked professionalism. The MAIN reason why I liked this company is because of their EXPERTISE AND KNOWLEDGE of BRANDS AND QUALITY of window treatments. They initially came to measure for a lesser brand. They saw that I had existing window treatments of a higher rating, so knew I would not be happy with the lesser brand. They recommended another brand that fell in between the two. They were running a living social coupon but wanted more information about it. Hit link to their facebook page and got phone number off of that. Called and was greeted with a hesitant "hello" I am like is this da blind guys? She is like In a questionable answer "yes" like how did I get this number? Started to ask questions about the coupon and what can be used for and so forth. Set up a day and time to inspect the house which she said was all open and I was the only one so far. Day and time came....waited.....waited....waited.....no show. Called back number to ask where they were? No answer so leave a voicemail. Eventually they call back to inform me that they just finished a job and can be there in 15 minutes. I already left and was like what happened to my appointment that I originally had? Not even an apology and he was rude telling me that we usually tell people we take an hour time frame to get to people. I was like but when I originally booked it, the lady told me that I was the only person that day, so how can someone else take my original appointment time? Still no apology but just, do you still want us to come?
