I went through Home Depot services for my interior shutter project with Island Shutters and it was one of the best decisions I've made. Cheryl had constantly communicated with me throughout the whole process, starting with scheduling an appointment for Lorraine to take measurements. When Lorraine came, she took her measurements in a matter of minutes and showed us the options from the sizes of the panels to finishes of paint. My husband and I chose the largest sized panel, I believe it was the 4 in with a premium finish and security latches. After measurements were taken, their warehouse went on to cut and make the final products. What I absolutely love is that everything is made on Hawaii, so if any measurements are slightly off (which did happen in my case because the kitchen faucet) they can easily fix it in a day or so. Shawn is the man who installed all the shutters for us and what I thought was very considerate of him was that he saved the master bedroom for last because I had mentioned my husband came home that morning from a night shift. Even after everything was installed, both Cheryl and Lorraine has followed up with me to see if I was satisfied with my new shutters. The shutters were installed a couple of months ago but I finally got around to writing their 5 star review. Installer was helpful that is why I'm giving them two stars. The first individual Branson who measured obviously didn't measure correctly. Thought everything was done correctly cause he came to our house TWICE to supposedly measure. Paid the high price almost $17k for custom window/door shutters but then told during installation that I have to change my door knob ‍ or they can't install the door shutters and tell me we don't have a shutter for a front facing window that I asked for during our estimate & second visit (but I guess that's my fault cause I didn't double check) I waited 2 months..honestly wish I went with the lower bid. I went with them because of the good reviews, they claim to be on island & guarantee their work but I couldn't even install the door shutters and my only option was change my door knob or they we refund my money for the door. read more

Most wooden shutters available in HI today are manufactured in Chinese/SE Asian sweat shops and shipped by container to the mainland and then back to Hawaii via Jones Act shipping which makes the costs relatively competitive (aka 'close'). Additionally, the imported shutters clearly lack the fit and finish of the shutters that are manufactured by local workers at Island Shutters in Kapolei, HI. Even the double framing of Island Shutters is a clearly superior product to the imported models (painting was another item that was flawless, it appeared to be sprayed as you would coat a car vs. the hand brushed, cheaply screwed to the wall import versions I installed 15 years). I was amazed at the work that Shawn (installer) performed, the two each highly customized double shutters (you see one in my picture) took nearly 7 hours to install because of the exterior double framing process used. From Cheryl scheduling my appointment, to my consultation with Lorraine, to the installation today (done by Lopaka)... the customer service and delivery of service was top notch. I had contacted another company, who had really good reviews, but didn't feel we were a good match. I reached out to Island Shutters and as soon as I met with Lorraine, I knew Island Shutters was the right choice for me. Lorraine is very knowledgable, professional, and thorough during the consultation. She brings samples and does an excellent job of educating clients about their shutters, etc. She's not pushy, at all, and is very easy to talk to. On top of the great customer service, they make their shutters locally, so I was able to get mine installed only 17 days after accepting the proposal, which was awesome because other companies quoted 4-8 weeks because their products had to be made/shipped from off-island. I like that my shutters are made locally, not only because I like to support local businesses, but if I ever need work done on them... it's easier to get it done locally by the people who made them. Their prices are only slightly higher than companies who ship from off-island. In my opinion, it's not enough of a savings to wait for such a long time to get something from off island that you can get locally. They also use a top coat that prevents the shutters from getting scratched up. Installation - Lopaka called to let me know he was on his way. As soon as he arrived, he went straight to work. He was very professional, well-mannered, and a diligent worker. I could tell he knew what he was doing and showed great attention to detail. He re-measures and cuts some pieces for the shutters on-site so that everything fits precisely.
