Wow! From the beginning of the process to the installation G&S Shutter Designs did an excellent job! Mahalo to Ron DeCosta of RnL Deco LLC for the referral! We contacted Gavin in November 2022. He immediately responded that same day and came out the following week for the consultation. He answered all my questions & concerns. And made suggestions based on his years of experience and knowledge of the homes in the area we live in. Made our deposit in December. Shutters came in as projected within 10-12 weeks. February 22 it arrived and installed on the 24! Shawn and his assistant arrived on time and installation took them an hour and a half. In time for me to make it to my scheduled meeting in town. We live in Ewa. Very professional, fast, efficient and cleaned up their work space after they installed each section during the process. We appreciated that step they took. They installed shutters on the entire bottom floor of our home. The living room, kitchen and guest bathroom. I was a bit skeptical about installing shutters on the kitchen patio door. But I'm glad we did! Both sides of the shutter slides open allowing us enough space in between to remove the patio door and tracks to clean it. That was our biggest concern. And allows us to enjoy the cool breeze when we're home. We just have to be extra careful. The only thing we don't like is the bottom of the shutters do not anchor to the ground. It's slightly half an inch above ground. I'm guessing the mechanism of that is to clear way for easy removal and installation. So, we will keep the door half open so we don't damage the shutters. We will be hiring them again to finish the remaining top floor of our home which consists of three bedrooms, two baths and a hallway window. Call Gavin for a consultation today! With all the upgrades you could do to a new house, I really wanted shutters instead of the traditional blinds. I just didn't want to deal with the headache of replacing blinds every few years. I have lead fingers so I would probably rip off blinds on accident knowing myself. I contacted G&S Shutter Designs back on July 11, 2020. I had asked the builder for our home if we could have access to the house to measure the windows. I'm a planner, so I didn't want to move in and not have any window coverings. Gavin was more than accommodating even coming in on a Sunday to measure the windows (it was the only day the builders let us in the house). The measuring took about 30 minutes and Gavin showed us examples of the different shutters they had available with the framing. He also was very thorough with his explanation about the designs and gave us no pressure to purchase. We received our quote in email a couple hours after he had done his site inspection. The process is: 1) measure the windows in the house, 2) choose the designs you want, 3) estimate gets sent via email 4) send deposit (50% of total), 5) wait 8-10 weeks for shutters to arrive, 6) schedule and install! We waited about 10 weeks for our shutters to arrive (if you are ordering during COVID, it may be delayed). It worked out since our mortgage closing was delayed by a few weeks. Once we got out move in date, our shutters were installed 2 days later! Shaun and Christian came to our house the day of installation and it took them about 3 hours to complete all the windows. Everything was quick and easy. The shutters look amazing and you can tell are a great quality. It was worth the investment. Shaun even went over how to clean the shutters before leaving and how to open/close them properly. Their work was clean and efficient. I would highly recommend using G&S Shutter Designs. It's been about 3 years since we had our shutters installed. During that time we decided to rent out our unit to a small family with a young child. Bad news.. children can do a lot of damage! This review is long overdue, but better late than never. We hired G&S to install plantation shutters on our two guest bedrooms about a year and a half ago. The rest of the house already had shutters, so Gavin was sure to bring samples and offer suggestions to make sure everything would look cohesive. Everyone we dealt with at G&S was very helpful and friendly, and clearly super knowledgeable. I went with all of their suggestions and the end result was perfect. Quick, clean, and very detailed install and the product quality is top notch. I only have one complaint... after seeing how they were able to get such a perfect tight fit and nice elegant low profile frame box for my new shutters, I want them to redo the old ones that came with the house! Clearly that would not be smart since the condition of the old shutters is still great, but I wish whoever installed them had been as precise and meticulous as G&S. The old shutters on our sliding glass door that came with the house are on a big, bulky, floor track that traps dirt and dust. This review is way overdue, but I had to share our experience with this shutter company. After reading different Yelp reviews, we contacted this business and another one. We received a prompt response from Gavin who I believe is the owner, and he was very friendly and professional. We were able to schedule an in-person consultation with him fairly quickly. He came out, took measurements, gave his assessment and provided us with a quote. Overall process was easy. The shipment of our shutters did take a couple of months since they're coming overseas from the manufacturer and they're sized specifically for our windows, but we weren't in any rush. Also Covid caused major delays worldwide so it wasn't within their control. However once the shutters came in, the guys came out right away and finished quickly within the day. As they say, the wait was worth it. We love how our dining room looks. The shutters gave it a face lift. No more flimsy blinds falling off and looking dated. Per our request, Shaun and Christian installed the shutters in the kitchen, living room, and one of our bedrooms on September 30, 2020. Since we were extremely pleased by their workmanship, we requested to have them install the shutters to cover the remainder of our home which included the two other bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a window where our air conditioner is placed. They installed the shutters for the remainder of our home on May 10, 2021. We really love the new difference appearance in our home. Many compliments were received from our friends who visited our home. It is amazing how the shutter could make a huge positive difference in the appearance of the home. The great process started when we first met Gavin who was referred by one of our close friends. He is very knowledgeable, courteous, and friendly. Being an "absent owner," I was searching for someone who I felt, I could trust without actually being present for the installation. I also wanted to support "local" companies. I choose two companies, which I thought were "local" companies. The person from the first company I spoke to, was based out of Kailua, and he made me feel like he was doing me "a favor" by coming out to Waipahu to do the estimate. I got the second estimate from Gavin from G&S Shutters. The estimate from the first guy was TWICE the estimate from Gavin, and since I had recently had the same type of shutters installed in my home on the mainland, I had a good idea what they would cost. I used another company to do the shutters on the rest of my house, but I wasn't pleased with their price estimate for a smaller/rectangular window, so I contacted G&S for an estimate and they quoted me far less. They install Polycore plantation shutters, and that's all they do. After doing some research, Polycore seem to be the best in terms of quality and they're cheaper than the Hunter Douglas ones that I have in the rest of the house. If we ever upgrade to a bigger home in a few years, I plan to use G&S again, as I want the best brand/quality of shutter. Keep in mind though the one issue is that the delivery time is long... Ordered mid January and just installed today (May), so it took quite a few weeks to arrive after ordering, but if you're willing to wait--it's worth it. Gavin and Shawn of G&S Shutters did a phenomenal job installing my husband and my custom-made Polycore shutters for all of our bedroom windows. I found G&S Shutters thanks to all of the positive Yelp Reviews as well as their ads in Mid Week magazine, and their services did not disappoint. Their Polycore shutters are high quality, US made, and very reasonably priced. From start to finish, I found Gavin and Shawn extremely professional, responsive, honest and ethical, and good at communicating updates with phone calls and emails. Setting up the initial inspection visit was seamless and easy because Gavin and Shawn got right back to me, booked an appointment, and showed up on time. Gavin and Shawn took the time to explain the different kind of shutters I could choose from, and brought in real samples of what they look like. They were patient with me when I changed my mind about the shutter size I wanted at the last minute. I wanted to get plantation shutters for our living room sliding doors too, but Gavin and Shawn told me upfront that we were probably better off with curtains instead of sliding door shutters, because sliding doors were not optimized for shutters.
