    AYCE options

Smaller than other AYCE hotpot restaurants in the area, but they offer more broth and sauce options than I've ever seen - the shallot sauce is a must! You can order meats à la carte and it is reasonably priced ($5-7/serving). Make sure to leave room for their desserts - Matcha or Vanilla ice cream, Mango sorbet or frozen yogurt.

TLDR: It's a treat when establishments can match the standards that are set for big cities. ShabuRo might look like just another hotpot spot along a street, but I think it can compete with the other hotpot places that I frequent. Pork Bone Soup: I think most hotpots rely a lot on the meat to its flavor. Their soup is no different, as the broth is generally flat before anything is cooked in it. X rounds of mushroom, vegetables, and meat later, the broth will have a significatly meatier taste, and is enjoyable. You will feel thirsty later on though. Beef: Keep it simple. Fatty = more flavor, lean = easier to eat. All the beef options that I tried cooked easily, tasted good, and was consistent throughout the meal. Lamb: Similar to the beef in nature but managed to feel unique. You can taste the lamb, and the texture is a touch different. Chicken: Chicken's chicken. It loses a lot of its flavor when you boil it in meat. Buffet spread: It's good. The sides were okay and the rest of the ensemble was built to help augment the flavor of the broth and improve the hotpot experience. Ambiance: It's spatious and seats a good amount of people. It can handle parties of 10 rather comfortably, and feels new. Service: We went during a non-busy time, and they made sure our table was always clear of empty plates, waters refilled, and made sure we had everything we needed.

Kimchi & Sukiyaki broths with beef, lamb, & chicken (included in AYCE ~$34/person)

Ordered: Regular All You Can Eat Weekend (~$34/person): kimchi & sukiyaki broths; fatty beef, non-fatty beef, chicken, lamb, & full buffet; matcha, vanilla, & mango ice cream for dessert Aya's take: Nothing like some shabu after a much needed spa day! The location is clean and I like that everyone gets their own personal bowl of broth. It would be great if they can do a split bowl with 2 broths but that's not an option here. Both the kimchi & sukiyaki broths were super tasty and aromatic; I particularly enjoyed the sukiyaki broth as it has some sweetness which goes well with the beef but the kimchi broth gave us a mild spicy option too. The buffet is super clean and offers everything from vegetables to dumplings to fish cakes to noodles to tofu and more! It's not as extensive as other shabu places I've been to but it's enough to satisfy you. The meats were all fresh; I particularly enjoyed the non-fatty beef and lamb. The chicken is a definite miss - the texture and color gets weird as you're essentially boiling slices of chicken. The real creativity comes at the sauce bar where you craft your own sauce for dipping into the meats. This was a pretty comprehensive selection; at least they had my favorites which were sesame sauce, hoisin, chili oil, soy sauce, and even fresh herbs like garlic, onion, cilantro. On the end other hand, the dessert options are pretty minimal. I tried the matcha/vanilla swirl and the mango sorbet. It was more of a palate cleanser to end on a sweet note. Overall, it was super filling, satisfying, and fairly healthy. Worth a visit if you're in the area!

First time experiencing hot pot. This place did not disappoint. Very clean. Very organized. Wait staff are attentive and come around to make sure you weren't In need of more broth. This place is also a byob. Plan ahead. Reasonably priced.

All you can eat premium hot pot

ShabuRo is honestly just the perfect all you can eat hot pot place. A huge selection of fresh veggies, quality meats, many different broths and sauces to choose from, and even soft serve ice cream. The all you can eat including meat costs around $30 and it's a couple bucks extra for the premium meats / seafood, which is a fair price if you are hungry and considering the quality of the ingredients. Plus, the all you can eat experience and picking all your favorite veggies yourself is a fun experience. The place itself is spacious with lively upbeat music for good vibes. The staff are friendly and attentive. There is also a decent sized parking lot outside, which is convenient. Overall, I really don't have any complaints about this place. It's not often you find hot pot that is this good and fun, not to mention an all you can eat place. If you are a hot pot fan in the area, ShabuRo is a must visit!

Great selection of vegetables, sauces, noodles and dumplings to cook! There was an array of broths to choose from for cooking, but the bowls are small to cook in. I would have liked if there were more premium meat options and if they can offer a separate bowl to cook the fish in so it isn't mixed w the meat water. The froyo station for dessert was a nice touch to end with.

Out favorite shabu place in Bergen county. Something so basically such as the sauce is better than anywhere else. Choice of the hot food isn't that great but I'm there to enjoy those. Just Great broth with lots of fish cakes and veggies. I love their tofu skin. I don't think anyone else has those

This shabu restaurant was my first hotpot try in NJ since I moved here. The waitress was nice and the crazy tomato broth was good. The reason for the 4 stars is because they didn't have certain sauces (chili oil/ponzu) and items (quail egg/lotus root) that I would normally get at other hotpot spots. Nevertheless, still a great spot to eat at and definitely worth a try.

Stopped by ShabuRo for a quick dinner due to the high reviews and found it to be quite disappointing. We got a table fairly quickly but after ordering the first round of meats, our waiter went MIA. Plates were also brought out while I was getting veggies so I also did not know which plate was which. I also could not get the waiters attention to ask. They have a great selection of noodles, veggies and fishballs. Also a great sauce bar with ramen seasoning and an ice cream machine that had matcha flavor as an option. I spent extra to get the seafood and better meats but found selection and quality to be mediocre. Note that the clams are the giant ones which are a bit chewier. Some of mine had dirt inside so I ended up not eating it. Some of our meats had holes in them which seemed unusual and slices were pretty thin compared to other places we've been. Would most likely try another hot pot place in the are next time as we passed by several. Parking AYCE Sauce station Ice cream station Shared table Unattentive staff Bland broth Poor quality of meat Poor quality of seafood

This hot pot restaurant offers a fantastic family-style dining experience. Despite being busy at times, the wait to be seated is usually short. The food is consistently delicious and fresh, making it a top choice for hot pot enthusiasts You make a choice of the broth you want and then the meat with a HUGE selection of fresh veggies noodles and so much more. There's also a section to create your own sauces, which is abundant in selection. Then you end it with some yogurt or ice cream. Free parking I believe it's BYOB.

We love hot pot and eat here once or twice a week. What keeps us coming back is knowing there's no MSG in the broth, which is crucial for me since I'm allergic and have an adverse reaction to it. The ingredients are always incredibly fresh, and the owner is consistently attentive to every detail. Recently, he even added a new sign to confirm that everything served here is of the highest quality. This level of care and commitment makes this our go-to spot for hot pot.

    Theresa M.

Really great hot pot place! Tons of meat veggie and side options available along with good selection of broths (my favorite is Chinese Mala). On top of standard hot pot, they offer drinks like bubble tea and smoothies (extra cost) + two different soft serve ice cream machines (included in AYCE). Highly recommend trying the vanilla and green tea swirl! Service was fast and efficient. Small restaurant but good for group of people. TIP: There's parking in the front and on the side.

Do you have gluten free options?

    Yes

Is there seating for a party of 1?

Yes, absolutely. They have tables for groups of all sizes.

Is there private parking or is it street parking?

There's parking along the front of the restaurant and off to either side of the strip of stores next to it.

What is the largest group size that can be seated together? And do you accept reservations? Thanks!

If 1-2 people in a party of 4 order meat AYCE, does that mean everyone has to do the same or can certain people do meat a la carte still?

Hi. Thanks for your question. If there is a specific reason why some in your party cannot eat meats or seafood, then we can make exceptions. But I’m sure you can understand why we cannot normally allow AYCE to be mixed with a la carte orders. Hope… Read more

How does pricing work, is it all you can eat?

Yes. There are three options starting from $14.95 (weekday lunch) , $18.95 (weekday dinner , weekend). Call us whenever you need more details.

Do they do reservations or is it first come first serve?

We don't accept reservations. Thank you.

Are they back to ayce meat? Or still just ayce veggies and rice noodles/dumplings?

Meat is ala carte. With what is going on with cost of goods and wages, I highly doubt they will go back to AYCE everything. Still a great deal!

You can finally get whatever you want. Buffet restaurants operate as before as directed by the state.

How are they operating during covid?

From the moment we walked in, the place made a great impression. The restaurant is clean, nicely decorated, and has a good music selection that adds to the overall vibe. There's a bar area in the front and a main dining room in the back, which gives the space a nice balance. Overall Ratings Atmosphere - 5/5 Service - 5/5 Food - 5/5 Parking - Private/Street Parking Atmosphere - The space is well designed and very clean. The combination of decor, lighting, and music creates an enjoyable dining environment. Having both a bar area and a main dining space makes it feel more spacious and well thought out. Service - The staff here really stood out. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and very accommodating. We ended up chatting with our waiter quite a bit, and he was extremely personable. He even took a song request from me and had it played, which was a really nice and unexpected touch that made the experience feel more personal. What We Ordered - The menu covers all the classic Korean BBQ staples you'd expect, along with some less traditional options like intestines and both spicy and non spicy chorizo, which made the experience more interesting. What really sets this place apart is their use of traditional cast iron pots instead of grills, which was a big deciding factor for us and gave the food a more authentic feel. A quick tip: ask for smaller portions when ordering. The servings are very generous. We switched to smaller portions after our first round so we could try more of the menu, especially since we don't visit the area often. Standout dishes for us were the Beef bulgogi, Beef brisket, Berkshire steak, Pork jowl, and the Braised crab meat soup. Everything was flavorful and well prepared, and these are definitely must order items in our opinion. Final Thoughts - For the price, this was a fantastic dining experience. Great food, generous portions, and genuinely friendly service made it well worth the visit. I would definitely come back again if we're in the area.

We felt a little turned around since everyone else seemed to know what to do and it was clearly our first time, but the guy at the counter was quick to explain how things work: Grab a clean pair of tongs and a bin to collect all of the fixings. There's lots to choose from - veggies, noodles, frozen seafood, and meats. When you've finished making your selection of add-ins, they'll weigh it at the front (it needs to be a minimum of one pound; every half pound thereafter exacts an added surcharge). From there, they'll ask about your preferred spice level and whether you want your meal 'wet' or 'dry' - 'wet' meaning in a broth and dry meaning stir fried. A note on heat levels: Beware of overestimating your personal spice tolerance. The spice levels range from 0 to 3 (which can be narrowed down to halves), and since I love some heat, I asked for a level 2. The guy taking my order hesitated and asked, "Are you sure? That's pretty spicy." When I marked it down to a 1.5, he nodded with relief and said, "That's probably better." When I got my meal and had my first bites, I was immediately grateful for his intervention. A 1.5 had plenty of that signature Szechuan numbing heat and I was feeling that fire in my belly for hours afterwards. My husband's brothy choice (with a more conservative spice level of 1) was far more muted. The nutty broth, along with the side dish of peanut dipping sauce, was a rich and tasty swimming pool for his ingredients of choice. A few random notes and tips: - 'Dry' meals will also come with a bowl of rice. There were tiny specks of egg throughout the bowl, which I considered a nice touch. - Curiously, the check is squared at the end of the meal rather than upon point of order (most self-serve spots will have you pay first). Those paying in cash get a tiny dessert at the end. The cash prize used to be tanghulu - a skewer of candied fruits - but now it seems to be a tiny serving of soft serve. - There's also something of an honor system at work. I watched people freely get up during their meals to grab their own drinks from the fridge, and everything somehow got totaled up at the end. - Remember that noodles bloat. I thought I chose a small amount of noodles and was surprised by how much they thickened after cooking and couldn't finish my meal. Finding parking is a beast of a task in this area. There are a few spots available in front, but it's shared with the cafe next door. Sometimes you can find spots along adjacent streets - we lucked out with a spot in one of these.

We ordered 2 combos which seamed like the best bang for the buck to try multiple items. Ordered the following: - Seolleongtang + pancake (add for seafood) $22.99 - soon tofu stew + kalbi $32.99 Both soups were prepared with that good home type feel. Made with care, everything presented well and comes with a side of purple rice. Both types of soup had its very own depth of flavors. Seolleongtang had a cleaner style flavor tofu and broth felt light but full of the ox bone taste coming thru. The soontofu, spicy (i think she gave us regular spice i don't recall specifying the level) and it was perfect balance between spice that complimented the silky tofu. The seafood was generous, shrimp, squid, mussels, clam, octopus. YUM! The pancake was tasty, not overly fried or greasy. THe galbi?????? FIRE. It was so tender, supreme marination on display. Each time we're in the area, we aim to try a different spot, so this time we decided to try Tang Maru! They're an authentic Korean restaurant owned by a husband + wife duo & serve delicious dishes. The wife, Mia, attended us our entire meal & was sooo super kind + had great energy! Very refreshing! Here's what we ordered for dinner: 2 combos-- 1. Seolleongtang + Pancake (#2. 설렁탕 + 해물파전 Seolleong Tang + Seafood Pancake $22.99) 2. Soon tofu stew (any of your choice, we got seafood!) + galbi ( *10.Soon Tofu + Galbi $32.99) Firstly OMG, obsessed w/ the banchan here! Our favorites were the Napa cabbage and the tofu... we had to ask for more throughout the meal which we typically don't do hehe. Everything was extremely flavorful & we couldn't have been happier! The soups were definitely necessary after spending the day out in the cold. The galbi was amazing; perfectly cooked & we could tell it was marinated well. Overall, we found everything to be perfect and will for sure be back again!! Parking was awesome too, they have a large shared free parking lot with other establishments.
