Love this Shabu place. One of my favorites in San Diego. It's in nestled in Miramesa/Scripps in the plaza at the end of Miramesa Blvd right off of the 15. It's AYCE Shabu. Lunch is $27.95 (11.30am-3pm M-F) and dinner is $39.95 (3pm-close M-F and Sat and Sun all day) holidays are dinner prices all day You pick your soup base (up to 2 per pot). My favorite is the Mongolian or Sichuan, but for those who don't like spicy we get a split pot and also do either the garlic miso or tonkotsu. You can order 2 trays of meat (per person) at a time (meats include beef, chicken, pork and lamb). They have the veggies, noodles and some seafood at the self serve bar. They also have a hot food bar with fried rice, chicken katsu, gyoza and curry. The sauce bar has a variety of sauces and different condiments for dipping. For dinner, they add shrimp, mussels, clams and crawfish to the self serve bar. The drinks are self serve, they have Coke products (Yay!) and some teas. And to finish off... for dessert, they have a shaved ice self serve bar. This place gets pretty packed so try and come early or get on the waitlist before hand. The restaurant is clean and the servers are very friendly and attentive. They also have a membership price. It's $35 a year and it drops the lunch price by $4 and dinner by $5 (per person).
We've been here many times and have always had a great experience! Tommy was our server tonight and he was very attentive and kind. The sauce, veggie, and seafood bars have a great variety of options. Our favorite soup bases are the tomato, Mongolian, and umami mushroom. This might be the best AYCE hot pot in San Diego?!! It has my vote. For dinner and weekends, it's $39.95 per adult. Kids are cheaper. This place can do yin yang pots (2 soup bases split). If you have five or more people, you get two pots at the table (up to 4 soup bases). Meats are ordered via servers, and everything else is self-served. There's a section for sauces, hot food, veggies, seafood/protein, drinks, and even shaved snow!! Location is just off the freeway. Need to drive up a hill and immediately turn right into the parking lot. Even part of the parking lot is on a slant. Service is great. They keep asking if we want more meats. Food quality is pretty good. My fave meats were the Wagyu tender and bottom round. I liked the Mongolian and tomato soup bases, but I did not like the curry and spicy Tokyo. They have whole raw garlic at the sauce bar! But I noticed they didn't have shacha sauce. Restrooms are in the back. Female room has a baby diaper station.

Shabu works is a solid choice for big groups or families.
Came in and got seated right away. All the servers were really friendly and helpful. The meat choices are limited but more than enough. Our favorite was the top blade. Overall clean environment. Everything gets refilled quickly and cleaned.

Overall, not too bad of a place for some decently priced AYCE shabu. Because it's AYCE the quality of the food is pretty subpar. We ordered lamb and 70% of it was pure fat. The self-serve bar had a selection of noodles, vegetables, seafood (mostly fish balls) and hot foods that were all just ok. The best part of the meal was actually the broth. The Mongolian broth is the best one in my opinion even though it was not as spicy as I would have liked it to be. The service was fine, nothing amazing. There was one point where we ordered a round of meat but it never came out but since they were busy we brushed it off and ordered it again with another server. The restaurant itself is clean and modern. And they serve complimentary green tea and water at the front waiting area which I thought was very nice and considerate. This place is good for a big group or if you're celebrating a special occasion!
Had a quick birthday treat today, and everything was great! Our server, Kat, was so welcoming, helpful, and provided super quick service. We ordered the tonkotsu broth, and it was just as delicious as always! Definitely a great way to celebrate!

I've been to Shabu-Works a handful of times now, and it's usually a solid experience. Out of all the soup bases I've tried (sukiyaki, Sichuan ma-la, spicy Mongolian, spicy miso, and tomato harvest), the sukiyaki is still my favorite. It's well balanced, and I like how it complements the meats well. I also appreciate the wide selection of hot pot ingredients, plus the added bonus of a prepared hot food section. The drink options are great too, especially the milk tea, and the self-serve shave ice bar with toppings is a fun touch that rounds out the meal. With that being said, the meat quality can be a bit inconsistent depending on what you're served. On my most recent visit, the first two rounds were great. We received good quality US wagyu chuck tender, angus beef belly, and top blade. But by round three, the wagyu chuck tender was about 80% fat. We asked for a different plate, but unfortunately the replacement had the same issue. I feel that the meat quality should remain consistent across rounds, and not be so drastically different. Service-wise, things were slower this time around as well, especially when it came to clearing dishes. Overall, I'm still giving 4 stars because of the positive experiences I've had in the past, but there's definitely room for improvement in consistency and service.
Shabu ANYTIME, ANY DAY! My family and I often visit here. Embarrassing to say, we go here at least once/twice a week. It's convenient and I don't have to deal with any cooking and cleaning. You can say it's one of our favorite places to eat. Customer service is always superb and the meats are tasty with many selections to choose from. Our favorite manager is Suki . She always has a warm smile on her face everytime we come as well as her fellow managers and co-workers. They always greets us with the warmest smile when we come. Applying and getting the membership card is so beneficial for us considering how much money we saved at every visit. Inquire and apply for it, it is well worth every penny !

The most amazing shabu experience while we were in San Diego! We usually go to spots around Orange County, but this one really stood out. I had such a good time! the flavors, the setup, the whole vibe at Shabu Works were just it. It's buffet style, so everything is self serve: sauces, fountain drinks, veggies, fish cakes, fish balls... all you can eat, which I LOVE. The only thing you order from your waiter is your choice of meat and the broth for your soup. The place was super clean, including the bathrooms. The hostess was so kind and helpful right when we walked in, and our waiter was just as great, constantly checking in to see if we needed more meat or broth. Overall, it's not just dinner, it's an experience. Especially when you're on a little family getaway, having a good, fun dinner like this just makes everything even better. read more

I loved the food, but I have mixed feelings about my dining experience, and I'll tell you exactly why. I came by on a Monday, 8PM and BOY was it packed (Note, restaurant closes at 9). There were parties left and right, a good number of tables were filled. I was seated super fast and my order came out I wanna say in less than 10 minutes of me being seated. There's a sauce bar, open drink machines, a bar for veggies, noodles, seafoods, fried foods, and even a shaved ice area. I stood up to wander around the bars to get my stuff and when I sat down, the soup and meats were already there. My server and his customer service, phenomenal. The right side was the Sichuan Mala soup and the left was the Mongolian (Server recommended). Both were so incredibly tasty, I really wanted to drink the entire pot if I could LOL. I was checked in on regularly by him and other staff who were clearing the other tables so that part was great. In addition, there was such a wide variety of seafood and veggie options, this restaurant could cater to so many different palates. So, why the -1 Star, you might ask? Around 8:40PM (I remember it was earlier since I was even surprised that the cleanup was so soon but I'll say 8:40PM), there was this ear piercing clash of utensils. And it wasn't one. It was back to back to back slamming of tongs. **Disclaimer** I know this restaurant isn't a super high end, fancy restaurant, so I didn't expect the staff to have that level of training, but this was so loud and aggressive that the tables near me also looked to see what the deal was. It was one of the kitchen ladies cleaning up the bar area. I watched her carry a bin down the line of the bar, just aggressively slamming the tongs into the bin. It was so loud and disruptive and the bars are dang long so it kept going on and on AND THEN SHE LOOPED BACK THE OTHER WAY AND KEPT SLAMMING LMAO. I finished my meal soon after and then paid and dipped (before 9). Though the meal was super good and I really liked all the options there, the lady beating up the utensils got me good. LMAO Might come back but definitely earlier than 8 next time, or at least will bring earplugs. Overall Rating: Food: 10/10 Service: LMAO -10/10 For the Lady - I don't know if I should laugh or be annoyed at how disruptive and ridiculously loud that whole shebang was. It was comical. Came back after almost a year and still the same good food as before! We brought a big party of people to try it and everyone enjoyed themselves. We tried some new things and some favorites from the last time. We ate on a Friday night and although it was a little busy, we still got food service. My #1 highlight? That passion fruit green tea, I dont know what they put in that drink but gosh I could chug it! Second highlight was the Mongolian broth, it was so flavorful, definitely a new favorite. read more
Food: Broths: Garlic Miso Tonkotsu (6/10) - It's slightly creamy and you can definitely taste the miso. It's not too salty or garlicky. It didn't really stand out but was still decent. Definitely feels like the "comfort" choice. The Mongolian (8/10) - I love the spicy kick to this broth without it being too strong. It has a lot of flavor to it and made everything I dipped into it yummy. Loved drinking the broth too. The meat and toppings here are solid. Thin-sliced beef and pork are the best to me. Seafood like shrimp and squid is a nice addition and the fish balls and krab are standard but do the job. The veggie bar has the basics you want: napa, spinach, mushrooms, corn, plus filling noodles. Sauce bar is simple but effective (sesame, garlic, green onion, soy, chili oil, etc.) easy to make something good. I also loved the shaved ice bar for dessert! Unique and fun. Service: Very helpful and attentive. Always coming to our table to check in or grab used plates. Ambiance: Pretty huge and lively. I went on the weekend and had to enter on to a waitlist. Definitely a good place to go to if you're feeling super hungry. This is an all you can eat shabu place. I recommend adding yourself to the yep waitlist before you come as this place can get pretty crowded. Ambiance is super casual and food is great and plenty. There's tons of vegetable options and dessert (shaved ice) is also included. Seating is all inside and parking is plaza parking. There's table that can even sit 8 people. read more
Always love coming to Shabu-Works even though it's out of the way for me. Took a big group of my friends here to introduce a lot of them to hot pot for the first time. They all had nothing but good things to say and were excited by the selection and how delicious the food was. The broth options are amazing, and the crowd favorite was the garlic miso. The Mongolian's pretty good too, but it does get a little tiring getting your tongue numbed by the peppercorns over time. I also love the tom yum but that's my general go-to for hot pot, and I wouldn't say it's where Shabu-works specializes. The bars are really where Shabu-Works shines, compared to other spots. There are so many options! You serve your own sauces, veggies, seafood, sides, and there's even a delicious hot food bar with chicken, rice, curry, dumplings, all of which are good, but you have to be careful not to fill up on it! There's also a drink bar included and a dessert bar where you can make your own shaved ice. My personal favorite is the wintermelon tea (probably because it just tastes like brown sugar water haha). Overall, I'd say Shabu-works is my favorite AYCE hot pot in the SD area, with the best quality to value. read more
Came here on a weekend with a group of friends, but unfortunately the experience wasn't the best. When we first arrived, there wasn't anyone at the front to check us in, so we had to wait a while just to get someone's attention. Once we were seated though, the staff did check on us regularly, which I appreciated. The vegetables didn't seem very fresh, especially the spinach, which was disappointing. I also wish they would lower the price for the vegetarian option, especially since the meat items are ordered separately and brought to the table. On the positive side, the tomato and mushroom broth was good, and the shaved ice toppings station was a nice touch. Overall though, for the price, I don't think the experience really lived up to expectations. read more

We had such a great experience at Shabu Works thanks to Toan Nguyen! He was super friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. He checked on us often, was quick to help whenever we needed something, and just made the whole experience really enjoyable. You can tell he genuinely cares about taking care of his customers. The food was great, but the service made it even better. Definitely appreciate Toan for taking such good care of us. We'll for sure be back! read more

The best shabu place I've tried here in SD! The broths are amazing, staff is great, sound level not too bad. They are attentive and make sure you are taken care of. Very friendly! Super clean restaurant. They were refilling the food bars every so often and using FIFO which is great. The meats were amazing the first couple rounds. I did notice that the meats started to get more fatty and inedible as the rounds kept coming. It could have been my imagination but I didn't like that. That's just me though. Definitely will come back. read more

No, that is not true, One of them is all made of veggie and rest of them are based on pork or beef (I am not 100% sure but 90%)
