Spicy steamed cold noodle with sesame sauce - Liang Pi
    Lulu Z.

Quick lunch spot.. outside looks like a new building, inside looks very dated. But the staff were welcoming and friendly, service was fast and food is pretty good. Spicy steamed cold noodle with sesame sauce: good chew on the noodles - sesame sauce is a bit liquidity - personally not spicy enough Cumin lamb burger: good flavors with chili. Shaanxi Minced Noodle Soup: it was okay.. noodles are too thin..

The food was not fresh. The shredded pork in Beijing sauce (such a small portion $17.99) tasted bad, the meat didn't seem fresh, felt like it had been sitting out for a long time, and had a strange taste. Also, the portion was extremely small. Just a handful of pork slices and a few slices of tofu skin and that was it. The lamb skewers also had a slightly sour flavor, and each skewer cost $4.50. The lamb pita soup was also not fresh. You can tell from the attached picture. We threw out the most of our orders

I've come here a handful of times with my boyfriend and they have sweet customer service. We got an order of lamb skewers and a lamb burger to share with a wang lao ji. The lamb was so juicy and the seasoning was perfect. We always crave this place.

I came here with my dad for a quick lunch. I haven't tried their noodles yet. Will be back to try it out. I got an order of the Cumin hamburger and the lamb skewers. Both of them was pretty good. The bun is toasty and crunchy while not too thick. The lamb meat inside was tender and juicy. It's also filled with jalapeños but wasn't too spicy. The lamb skewers are a bit fatty. The seasoning on it was delicious. Service was quick. There's a parking lot. The restaurant is a little small, but normal for this type of food.

DELICIOUS FOOD. I go to this plaza all the time, but never even noticed this place. I'm glad I got to go with someone who suggested it since it's my first time trying cuisine from this region. What I've learned recently is to always get the dishes that are unique to whatever regional cuisine the restaurant gets it's namesake from or whatever they specialize in since so many Chinese restaurants offer a smorgasbord of almost everything under the sun (that means whatever Americanized styled dishes that you're craving for!) We got the: 1) Shanxi Spicy Cold Steamed Noodle: -YOU HAVE TO GET THIS. IT'S ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS, SO SO GOOD. -It's a specialty from this region and even as I'm typing this I'm drooling at the thought of eating it again. -The noodles are very doughy, and bready and soaked up all the sauces to the point of being soggy, but the texture still had some chewiness to it, despite the softness. Perfection. -Crunchy thinly sliced cucumber and beansprouts and pieces of bread also soaked up the cilantro sauce wonderfully. The spiciness wasn't too strong, so I could inhale everything. 2) Qishan Spicy Pork Minced Burger: -With the slight dryness of the bread, the moist and tender pork, along with the chili oil made a great combination. 3) Lamb Pita Bread Lamb Soup: -Lamb was moist and slid right off the bone. -Lots of clear noodle and not gonna lie, this is the first time I've EVER had soup with bread in it (that's not croutons). -The bread, although soggy, soaked up the soup nicely and added to the doughy texture (as it's supposed to be). -Interesting dish and if I wasn't so fixated on the other noodles, I would have eaten much more of this. 4) Shangxi pepper Chili Soup: -Lots, lots, lots of veggies (carrots, cabbage, and green beans)! -Thick consistency soup (cringe, but I really just wanted to use it as sauce on rice), but it came with so much. -Came out super hot and it wasn't spicy either. Kinda sour, not too salty, and a bit peppery. -Also had lots of meatballs in it too. Very unique meatballs with some doughy bread in it too. Definitely a different texture from what I'm used to. Opened super late in comparison to other restaurants in the area and the food is also affordable. Portions are pretty huge too and we ended up taking both soups to go. Definitely coming back to try more and to get more of those amazing noodles.

    Roasted salted peanuts - delicious!

My boyfriend found this place for us to try! Shaanxi food always sounds good so I of course said yes! We are so glad we discovered this place for hot, spicy, flavorful, and authentic Shaanxi food. If you didn't know Shaanxi is a province in in China famous for its Terracotta Soldiers. But within China, it has a local speciality, the biang biang mian (油泼扯面) - a form of hand pulled noodles! We loved the dish. Among other delicious dishes, we also got lamb paomo 羊肉泡馍 - lamb soup with little dough chunks. It was the BEST! After having this here, I know where to go next time there is a craving! We also ordered Spicy Cumin Lamb Skewers or 羊肉串儿 pronounced Yang Rou Chuan, to top it all off. All three dishes were delicious and hot! We will definitely be back for more delicious and authentic Shaanxi food!

A02. Spicy Cold Steamed Noodle w/ Sesame Sauce

WHEN: 1/21/22 Shaanxi Datang is 100% the most underrated sichuan restaurant. Every time I come home to LA I tell my family I want to eat here because no other place has noodles this good and this affordable and with such big portions. It's a family owned eatery and on any given day you can see the daughter doing her homework on one of the tables while father cooks in the kitchen and the mom serves the food. If you walk into any restaurant and see this, know the foods gonna hit. What we usually get: A02. Spicy Cold Steamed Noodle w/ Sesame Sauce ($7) - liang pi! My favorite cold noodles with vinegary and peanutty flavors so good! C14. Hot Boiled Fish Fillet ($15) - huge massive bowl of boiled fish, very very spicy D06. Chili Oil Noodle w/ Lamb add on ($13) - hands down the best dish. Hand pulled biang biang noodles served in a similar spicy vinegar sauce as the liang pi but with tender pieces of lamb. Hits the spot every time. Shaanxi Datang is consistent, cheap, fast, friendly, and always delicious. I wish more people would try them out. The outside may not seem like much but please support this business. I really don't want them to shut down

Water bucket lamb soup with mo
    Ann M.

I have been here many times for their Liang pi noodles. There was even one time I came at the end of the night right before close for Liang pi but they were sold out. The shop owner kindly made a fresh batch just for me because she knows that's what I always order here. So what's the deal? Their Liang pi noodles are fresh and homemade. When you pick it up, it's firm enough to maintain its shape and won't break. It's drenched in a spicy chili oil sesame mixture that gives this dish such a nutty mouth numbing umami flavor. There are some beans sprouts, cucumber slices and cubes of chewy gluten that soaks up the sauce. What is gluten? It's basically a non fermented bean product. When you get this dish, you mix it all up and dig in. I've tried many places with Liang pi and this place by far does it right. Ok I did get some other stuff like cumin lamb which is also very spicy but oh so tasty. It's a tiny bit gamy from the lamb which I really like. Water bucket lamb soup with mo (when naan bread meets pita bread and they have a child, you get mo). My one non spicy dish that has a delicate flavor. The soup is light but definitely not bland. Theres some vermicelli noodles, wood ear fungus, bean curd skin and pieces of soft lamb. You can tear up the mo and put it in the soup kind of like croutons or dip the mo in the soup. Overall I love this place. It's a mom and pop small restaurant next to a super market. It's not decorated fancy and they always have the tv on a Chinese kid show for their daughter who hangs out in the restaurant. Do I care? Nope! It's the quality and taste of the food that counts and that's what's going to get me coming back again and again.

    Ubereats order of Liang pi
    Joanna L.

I love Shaanxi/Xi'an food and sadly, a lot of my favorite Xi'an restaurants are closed now. So when I tried Shaanxi Datang, this place HIT THE SPOT. I ordered via ubereats and they are definitely upping the price on ubereats, but it's ok since this restaurant is pretty far from where I live. I ordered the cumin lamb noodles and the cold noodles (liangpi). They were both soooo flavorful and delicious. Noodles were chewy and delicious. It was a tad on the oily and salty side, but I guess that's what makes it extra yummy. Portion sizes were huge. These 2 order lasted me about 4 meals. The lamb noodles come with a lot of toppings (lamb, onions, etc) and the noodles are handpulled and thicc. If you love or are craving Xi'an food, I highly recommend that you try this place. The cumin lamb noodles were my favorite. Liangpi was a classic (can't go wrong with this order).

    Peanuts (complimentary)
    Kady L.

I came here today to have lunch with my dad. We've been on a noodle kick recently, and saw that this place offers some classic, yet inexpensive dishes. It is located in the HK Plaza directly to the right of the supermarket. We were served complimentary peanuts to start. I did not have any since I'm allergic, but my dad couldn't stop picking at them. Then, we ordered two of the Shanxi Handmade Cold Steamed Noodle ($4.49), one Chili Oil Noodle ($6.99), and their Fish dumplings ($8.99) which came with 10 pieces. The portions here are gigantic. Both of the noodle dishes were delicious and spicy, though I must say the Chili Oil Noodles are on a whole 'nother level. I wish I had ordered more to go, because I'm having some intense cravings right now! As for the Fish dumplings, they were okay, but I personally would not order them again. They tasted a bit sweet, which was not what I expected or wanted out of a fish dumpling. I really enjoyed dining here and will be back soon. However, I am taking off a star because there were some small pieces of food on the floor underneath our booth and our chopsticks were really sticky.

    Cumin Lamb 孜然羊肉
    Gabriel H.

This is a solid Xi'an place in an area that doesn't have a lot of good Chinese food. It's nice to know you can get solid liangpi here and not have to make the trek to San Gabriel or Rowland Heights. I phoned my order and a very nice lady picked up. She was so sweet! Helps if you speak Mandarin because she talked to me completely in Chinese. I ordered: 涼皮 - Liang Pi / Cold-steamed noodles. The portion size here was quite generous. I thought the flavors were well balanced and there was a good amount of gluten. 孜然羊肉 - Cumin Lamb. This was excellent. A hefty portion of lamb that was sliced thinly. Good spice to it, delicious on top of rice. 炒拉條子 - Stir-fried hand pulled noodles with pork. The noodles here had an excellent chew to them, and I loved the variety of vegetables and tofu skin. It's a good Xi'An place that offers something unique in the Hong Kong Plaza. And they're quick too. After I phoned my order the food was ready in 15 minutes.

I was greeted warmly and I ordered two 3 item combos: Chow mien, orange chicken, mushroom chicken, and pork stew White rice, teriyaki chicken, chicken and potato stew, and salt and pepper chicken. My favorite was teriyaki chicken and salt and pepper chicken. Everything was good honestly, I didn't have anything bad to say other than the containers will leak through into the bag and you will get sauce on the napkins, utensils, and sauce packets. For the price, it was $30 plus drink and can definitely satiate 4-6 people. They have a tip jar and since I paid cash, I forgot to tip but will go back and make sure I tip! I think the intent is so you order fast and don't linger. Not a negative for me since my family usually is pretty quick about eating and going. They are also pretty good with customizing their ingredients. My wife is gluten free so we would ask that they not add in soy sauce or oyster sauce in some of the dishes that we know can still work without those two ingredients. You would need to know how to customize it yourself as I don't think they would know what to do if you simply say no gluten. Overall, I really don't have anything negative to say about this place.
