The bathroom door. All dirty and ugly

Got there. First impressions are really bad. Walked in door. Luther showed me a room downstairs in the basement. Let just say I have been at hostels all over the world. Philippines, Rome, Paris, and many across the United States. This one was far the worse ever. The room Luther showed me to smelled like weed, had roaches everywhere, rat feces, holes in walls, trash everywhere. The bed smelled like mold. The blankets and pillow smelled like cigarettes. Said breakfast was included. This is a lie. Here is the worse part- when I tried to use the kitchen I put my food on the counter and it was swarmed by cock roaches immediately. Grossed me out so much I threw my food away in trash. They had 3 bathrooms but only one of them had a working shower. There isn't any parking. If you like staying at slum lord kind of places then sfo crashpad is for you

Convenient, Clean, and Great for a Night Out in Redwood City…read more We stayed at Kasa Niche for one night while seeing a show at Club Fox, and it totally hit the mark. Location-wise, it's fantastic--right downtown, just steps from bars, restaurants, and the theater. It's perfect if you want to go out, have some fun, and not deal with driving afterward. Check-in was done via keypad, and while it took a minute to figure out, Kasa sent super helpful messages every step of the way. I really liked the self check-in concept, and the communication made it feel smooth and supported. There was a staff member on site that night, which was a nice touch--even though we didn't see them, it was comforting to know they were around. Our room was clean and stocked with thoughtful amenities: snacks, water bottles, a welcome note, a coffee maker, fridge, and even a sound machine and earplugs (which came in handy--being right above the front entrance, we could hear people outside on the sidewalk). Also worth noting: the curtains weren't blackout, so the room wasn't super dark in the morning. Light sleepers might want to check if any rooms have darker shades. The bed was firm, not our usual preference, but fine for a short stay. Housekeeping did a fantastic job--everything felt fresh and spotless. Parking isn't on-site, but there's public metered parking nearby and a small loading zone out front to drop off your bags. Would definitely stay here again for a night out in Redwood City. It's a clean, modern, and well-thought-out space in a great location.

Bathrooms are uncomfortable because they aren't properly ventilated. Usually cold and no common space to put items or hang toiletries as you shower. Now let's get into a real issue : The management here is incompetent and racists my opinion (which could be appealing to many, esp in today's climate) - Here's why - I booked a stay, showed up and my room was given to someone else and because of their mistake, THEY put me in a 3 bed bunk with two family members. Meaning one large bed unit that had 1 queen below and two attached bunks above. Weird. I never asked to be in this room, but according to them it's all they had and it was late so I went along. Upon entering the room, I was greeted by the family members (two brothers) the oldest of them seemed to be a bit off but the younger was cool. I knew by the demeanor of the oldest he didn't want me in the room but the youngest, completely tuned into me. I could barely get unpacked, he was very, very happy that I came into the room. Long story short I caught the brothers in an act and it all made sense why they would be sharing a bunk bed as brothers 18 and 27 yrs old. The older brother was leading very weird interactions with the younger brother who was of age but this had to be going on for a while, bc the younger brother thought it was normal, Until I brought it to light. I attempted to do what I could to disrupt this obvious pattern by calling out this behavior to both of them especially the older brother. Of course he got upset and had a grip on his younger brothers thoughts and decisions and the younger brother shut down but thanked me when he was alone. They were from another country, my hands were tied. Any who, I never mentioned anything else but almost 6 months later I go to return and was denied. Management not even telling me why just barely stating something involving a text from my previous stay. Basically accused me of sending "inappropriate" messages that I never sent. Not only that, never questioned or asked for truth or detail just made a decision based on hearsay. My response was and is, if I sent any text to a grown adult, that's my business and it would have NEVEr been in appropriate but again that's my business- furthermor I had to get the number to do that. So if someone really did receive a text from me as a grown adult person, why wouldn't they say something while there? How did I get the number? Why wasn't there and uproar or some issue while I was there? I'll tell you why- because the management at this hostel has always been envious and jealous of me any time I stay. I have a level of confidence that they don't like, complimented with my rich brown town and they can't stand it. I also mind my business and don't participate in the BS. They hate it. So any person that gave them any slight reason (although false) they took it as fact. Even if it was fact, again, we're grown adults not a daycare. AND this hostel should have known something was up with a 27yr older brother sharing a bunk attachment unit with his 18 yr old brother. That's not their business right? Yeah so why would a text be their business ?? Goofy people. Any how, spend your money and time elsewhere. I gave them time to respond and they never did so here we are. Be cautious, Stay elsewhere.

In the two times I stayed here while commuting through the Bay Area, it was a gamble who I could share my kitchen or bathroom with.. but I always felt at peace as soon as I arrived. The "vibe" is curated as much as the artist hosting the space. "B-Love" stays around the home sometimes like a caring manager rather than an overbearing landlord. It was always good to see her around to update her on the house supplies, or just to hang out. She is a wealth of knowledge and history that comes along with the guest house and beautiful garden. However, she is also not in your business overall so if I ever wanted to ask for an accommodation in my room, or a question about the house, she was readily available on email or phone and happy to answer, as well as the other workers who are around regularly to clean up and help. The home sits in the heart of West Oakland, which might not have the best grocery stores, but you will encounter 3-story murals of the Women of the Black Panthers on the way to the Black-owned co-op grocery store (Mandela). You can also learn what a "food desert" is when they close at 8pm if you're carless, but you can also learn the goodness of local shopping when you hit the local liquor store (Sharif's) that makes sure to have your avocados and tortillas all the same. I would stay at B-Love's again and again. I miss the garden when I stay miles away visiting the Bay Area. Thank you for always catching me in my travels!

The room itself was quite spacious, but it completely lacked a closet or dresser to store clothes, which makes no sense given how much empty space there was to add them. The check-in process was also a letdown, as they use a "virtual assistant" screen with a remote worker from another country instead of a face-to-face on-site employee. My biggest complaint was the noise and lack of sleep. The AC/heating unit was so incredibly loud that we had to turn it off and just suffer through the cold night. On top of that, the walls are paper-thin; we were woken up at 3:00 AM by neighbors loudly fighting and arguing about money and drugs. To make matters worse, the curtains are not blackout, so bright morning light flooded the room and woke us up super early. Finally, they hit us with a hidden $10 parking fee that was not disclosed until check-in. After already paying over $171 on Agoda, finding out about extra fees at the desk is a terrible experience. Paying $181 total for a nice-looking room with this many random issues and poor sleep means I definitely would not stay here again.

Historic old farmhouse with wonderful NPS interpretive history display covering a wall in the living room. Immaculate rooms and common areas. Wildlife: coveys of quail, momentary shadow of hawk chasing lizard. Dark skies. Why we won't go back: We, a married couple, occupied one of the rooms in one of the 4-unit structures. Each of these has a kitchen shared by four rooms. Two rooms share am separated bath and shower. In order of unpleasantness for us: 1. The double bed was too small; one of us kept falling off the edge while the other was squished against the wall all night. 2. Sharing the bathroom with unknown neighbors was awkward. 3. Going from building to building and into one's room required memorizing four separate keypad codes, one of which changed in the middle of our stay. Imagine having to remember all this when it's dark and you need to use the bathroom. 4. The main building has a big kitchen. Some things (like coffee and tea) are supplied. But it is difficult to figure out what is provided for guests and what is available to use. It is difficult to figure out how to cook one's meals when there are a dozen other guests with whom one must negotiate. It is slightly easier in the smaller kitchens. 5. Wi-fi was unreliable. Other than the too-small bed, the worst part of our stay was that someone took away our brown paper grocery bag after we unwittingly left it in the main building upon our arrival. There are mysterious kitchen protocols of where one is supposed to leave one's things, and I never did figure this out. You are supposed to mark your stuff, but we did not realize this until our last morning. When we could not find our food bag, we assumed we;d left it at home, so we did not mount a search until it was too late. We had squirreled away odds and ends of food for our hiking lunch, so we shrugged it off. But we had to drive to Olema for dinner. The first morning, I was very unhappy at not being able to find my coffee. I am not a morning person and hate loud commotion. I almost cried at having to make polite conversation while the neighbors were cooking strange-smelling foods. One kind soul dosed me on caffeine. If this were still a hostel and the price was $50/nite, all this might be fine. But the NPS clearly requires this concessionaire to set prices that compare to the AirB&Bs of Inverness - $200/night. So it is to Inverness that we will go next time.

Huffing and puffing yelling at us that this is a private property. I (VERY NICELY) told her that we were under the impression that there was an easement to the beach (which is true), she then goes to say that we didn't sign the digital waiver at the door, ok fair enough, I immediately tell her that we will go right away back up to the gate and sign the waiver. She then proceeds to yell at us about how we are not allowed to do professional photoshoots, okay lady I get that maybe I do look like a model (especially compared to her) but some friends with a camera isn't a professional photoshoot. I once again, nicely explain to her that I just proposed and we're just trying to get a few pics of the location and we will go sign the waiver right away. She proceeds once again to repeat herself about the waivers which I don't understand because I already said we would go sign it right away and her talking is actually what is preventing from us from going to sign the waivers. She then ironically says "it's unfortunate that this is what you will remember from your engagement day" like what?! LADY if you know you're ruining our day why are you doing this? but fear not it did not ruin our day because I will not let some old hag ruin my day so I once again tell her we will go sign the waivers, she then has the balls to tell me that "this is a non-profit, there is a donation box at the door" ok PAUSE I would be MORE than happy to donate $50, even $100 to your location but not after the way you just treated us. We end up walking back up to the gate to sign the waivers and run into another couple making their way down the hill. I jokingly told them to make sure they signed the waiver or they would get yelled at to which they told me they didn't and proceeded down the hill. We ended up running into them at the parking lot again and they told us that they lady gave them no trouble even though they didn't sign the waiver. I jokingly said to them it's probably because of race (we are asian, they were Caucasian) to which they replied that they really may have been the case because they had no trouble at all. It's unfortunate such a beautiful location is run by such an old grumpy lady. I 100% own it that we should have signed the waiver upon entry but if rules exist they should apply to everyone regardless or age/race/gender/etc.. and on top of that once I already told her we would go sign the waivers she could have easily sent us about our way but I can't imagine why she felt the need to continuously lecture and yell at us.
