Keiki-Alexander B.

Bonjour everyone ThePandaPhotographer here and wanted to just inform you about this hostel called the Orange Village Hostel. Coming from California from Vancouver to find some work and handle some government business, I stay at other hostels and they were ok and had some problems. The one feature I'd love about the hostel was the TV, years ago there was no TV now there is, and there is always K-pop on the TV "I'm pleased about that." The room that I'd stay in was #321 was a bit small but then again, due to COVID-19 but I was in the room by myself the entire time. Now, this is my thirds time staying here. About 9 years ago, my Wife Yuuki and I stay here and at that time we didn't like it when we first came to San Francisco. I'm a French native and American, (dual citizen) and Yuuki is from Japan but we worked here and play in the states but back to the present, About 8 days before I said here for 3 days and it was good. I wasn't able to sleep the first two nights, well due to the homeless activates outside. Yes, there is a Homeless present in the neighborhood but I ran into a few problems. "I was raised in japan so, hospitality services is so different from another part of the world. There is a security deposit for room stays so please remind yourself. Due to COVID the lounge area that we do not see in my photos was not accessible but Kitchen was open and everything was available for us to cook inside without buying takeout all the time. "Good idea" but it was 4 people at a time in the kitchen. Laundry was cheap and the cheapest out of all the hostels I did stay in San Francisco since I been here. $2.25 - 2.50 to wash and to dry it's $0.25 "amazing" Some people thought I was moving in because I have a custom wagon to transport all my camera gear. "Haha," I thought that was funny, never hear someone moving into a hostel" The only time I raise an eyebrow was the fridge and how guest places their belongings and there isn't a place to put anything inside. I was forced to eat out half the time or eat once a day. There was no space in the fridge for my groceries. It's not the staff's fault here, but the guest needs to be open-minded about others in the hostel. The front door is always locked and you will be let in with a ring after confirming your stay. Most of the staff have a good idea who has check-in, so if you do not say hello to the other staff, they will not remember you. Be nice and say hello to them so they can remember if you do decide to step out. Showers are on each floor and I'd three showers and four toilets and an elevator. I would stay here again but I am not sure, I want to visit as many places as I can and in the Last 11 months, I have done so. This is a hostel I would recommend to you. P.S do not use the free soap on color clothing, what happened was I had a Wisconsin white tee and some colors the power soap fade my colors and got on my white tee. be aware of this. "BUY COLOR Protection Clothing Soap"

Double bed with private bathroom, very small, fits only 1 person at a time.

If you're expecting a hotel room, you're staying at the wrong place . My boyfriend and I stayed in a private double bed room with our own bathroom. It was a great experience except for one thing, the mystery puddles. My boyfriend joked that my review should be titled ,"Kristi and the room with mystery puddles". We had mystery puddles form near the toilet on one side early evening and disappeared in the morning. Two days prior to that, my boyfriend found a puddle under the bed near the bed legs but we never spilled water at any of those areas so they were strange . Other than that, our stay was awesome . Our room came with hangers, a closet, fridge, desk, chair, lamp, shampoo, conditioner, bar soap (this dried out my skin ), tv and drawers. We also had free wifi and access to a shared kitchen which had plates, pots, utensils, cups and a microwave. They have free pizza at 8 pm on Thursday in the communal kitchen. Check in is at 2 pm and if you're early, you can leave your bags their and come back but the last time to check in is at 11 pm. One thing about the bathroom is there is no sink, it's on the outside. Also, if you're tall like my boyfriend, you wouldn't want to close the bathroom door all the way or you'll be squished in the bathroom since it's super small. The shower is a stand in shower with very little room for another person. The TV would be another complaint , apparently the remote isn't programmed to the TV so there would be a pop up window saying we didn't configure it even though we did .It was really minor though . Other than that , our stay was awesome. Don't let the homeless people outside take away from the fantastic location and price for the hotel.

Private room with shared bath: fridge, microwave, closet, sink, cable.

Fantastic stay here overall-only downer is that it's a tad pricey but that's typical of SF! The hotel is located in the Tenderloin and is very central, but it's a semi gritty neighborhood. We stayed in a private room with shared bath, the bathrooms were clean and the room was spotless as well. One odd thing about the bathrooms was that there was no sink to wash your hands, so everyone opened the lock with their dirty hands if they don't use the sanitizer. Wifi was fast and cable was provided, sinks in the room were good as well. No AC, so the afternoon temp is a bit warm but most people are out and about at that time anyway.

I stayed here last minute during my stay in San Fransisco. It was moderately clean and comfortable. I stayed in a four person dorm room with three other random females. The bed was creaky and the pillow was lumpy. The room was very basic, with just beds, lockers, a small bathroom and a closet. They give you a sheet, pillow case, and a blanket. If you want to lock your stuff in the locker, bring your own lock. Downstairs they have a community room and a kitchen. Lots of people were cooking in the kitchen and the tv was on in the living area. People were mostly in their own groups but a few people were friendly and we talked, since I was alone staying there. The hostel is in the tenderloin district which is kind of sketchy. There are lots of homeless people and people who appear to be on drugs. I generally am pretty daring so I didn't feel unsafe. The streets were crowded enough with other people too so if someone attacked me, hopefully someone else would help haha. There are also tons of delicious Pakistani, Indian, and Arab food around the area in walking distance. I give it four stars because I paid $46 (and I got a deal on orbitz) for a bed and that is pricey for a hostel. But I did it because I prefer staying at a place with better reviews than a cheap place that has bed bugs.

First of all, bonus point for saving my bum after my booking.com booking was cancelled last minute for technical glitch on their site. The hostel staff was nice enough to let me pay upon arrival and keep my space until then. On the entrance, the building looks really old and it's not very impressive. The lift doesn't always seem to operate. But the kitchen and lounge are very modern and cosy. Too cosy for some! I stayed there only one night and the 90 minutes I spent hanging around in common area in the evening I had too put up with the smell coming from the kitchen as some people would spend 2h cooking their dinners! I liked the breakfast. I love waffles, so for me it was a perfect start of the day. The rooms are OK, clean and relatively spacious. There are lockers, a sink with mirror and a little kind of wardrobe. But I didn't particularly like the plastic on the mattress. The hostel doesn't have a great vibe. I was hoping to go for a pub crawl advertising in the hostel, but I was the only one interested! It's cheap and well located.

The sunk and a desk. ;)

I love this place! I got a private room with no notice for only $120 plus tax and it was awesome, great WiFi and lots of plug-ins. A very comfortable bed and Good TV services And an amazing continental breakfast in the kitchen with lots of choices..I had cheerios with milk, a slice of whole wheat bread with Nutella(!) and a banana! I heartily recommend this place if you can get a nice private room and if they're not full, which now unfortunately they are for Pride. But when its slow again give this place a try!

Orange Village Hostel was VERY clean- room, bedding, kitchen, etc. The staff was very nice too. Overall, the place exceeded expectations. The location is very central to town. Several parking structures close by.

If I could give this hotel a zero, I would give it a zero. This is such a horrible hotel to stay in. This hotel needs to be inspected by Health Officials. There are ROACHES everywhere in our room. So fucking disgusting!

Yep!
Fatankled L.

This is a (barely) revamped transient hotel that is presenting itself as a hostel for travelers. The rooms are cramped and airless, the bathrooms are dark and have broken fixtures and most importantly, fire safety is a foreign concept. There are power strips plugged into power strips. By far the most upsetting is that there has been a dying fire detector that has been chirping outside my room for the last 24 hours despite my complaining about it twice. This is how people burn to death on vacation. On a side note, one of the juvenile ass-hats that bunked there pulled the fire alarm at 7:30 am (I realize this is not the fault of the hostel but it was the turd cherry on the top of the crap sundae).

Bathrooms are uncomfortable because they aren't properly ventilated. Usually cold and no common space to put items or hang toiletries as you shower. Now let's get into a real issue : The management here is incompetent and racists my opinion (which could be appealing to many, esp in today's climate) - Here's why - I booked a stay, showed up and my room was given to someone else and because of their mistake, THEY put me in a 3 bed bunk with two family members. Meaning one large bed unit that had 1 queen below and two attached bunks above. Weird. I never asked to be in this room, but according to them it's all they had and it was late so I went along. Upon entering the room, I was greeted by the family members (two brothers) the oldest of them seemed to be a bit off but the younger was cool. I knew by the demeanor of the oldest he didn't want me in the room but the youngest, completely tuned into me. I could barely get unpacked, he was very, very happy that I came into the room. Long story short I caught the brothers in an act and it all made sense why they would be sharing a bunk bed as brothers 18 and 27 yrs old. The older brother was leading very weird interactions with the younger brother who was of age but this had to be going on for a while, bc the younger brother thought it was normal, Until I brought it to light. I attempted to do what I could to disrupt this obvious pattern by calling out this behavior to both of them especially the older brother. Of course he got upset and had a grip on his younger brothers thoughts and decisions and the younger brother shut down but thanked me when he was alone. They were from another country, my hands were tied. Any who, I never mentioned anything else but almost 6 months later I go to return and was denied. Management not even telling me why just barely stating something involving a text from my previous stay. Basically accused me of sending "inappropriate" messages that I never sent. Not only that, never questioned or asked for truth or detail just made a decision based on hearsay. My response was and is, if I sent any text to a grown adult, that's my business and it would have NEVEr been in appropriate but again that's my business- furthermor I had to get the number to do that. So if someone really did receive a text from me as a grown adult person, why wouldn't they say something while there? How did I get the number? Why wasn't there and uproar or some issue while I was there? I'll tell you why- because the management at this hostel has always been envious and jealous of me any time I stay. I have a level of confidence that they don't like, complimented with my rich brown town and they can't stand it. I also mind my business and don't participate in the BS. They hate it. So any person that gave them any slight reason (although false) they took it as fact. Even if it was fact, again, we're grown adults not a daycare. AND this hostel should have known something was up with a 27yr older brother sharing a bunk attachment unit with his 18 yr old brother. That's not their business right? Yeah so why would a text be their business ?? Goofy people. Any how, spend your money and time elsewhere. I gave them time to respond and they never did so here we are. Be cautious, Stay elsewhere.

Absolutely horrible experience--please note that staying here comes with hidden costs!…read more I was looking forward to staying here because of the location and cheap price; $80/night in SF over the weekend is definitely a hard find. However, from the very beginning to end ranged from confusion, annoyance, to plain nightmare. The check in process was confusing and and cumbersome. I was given no check in information, and there was no front desk. The intercom at the front door did not even work, and I had to call their actual "front desk" who apparently said they did not have my information on file and made me go through these annoying steps just to find my hotel room key in a lock box. The most frustrating and nightmarish experience came the next day when I lost the hotel room key (a physical key). I called the "front desk" several times but received no answer then finally got one after about 10 minutes. When I told the man at the "front desk," he told that he would have to speak to the housekeeper. After waiting for another 10 minutes, he informed me that I would be getting fined $200 for the lost room key, which is plain ridiculous, since they didn't have a replacement key (other than the housekeeper's key). I understand a $25 or $50 fee for a lost key but $200 for a freaking key???! After waiting for about 40 minutes total, he finally walked over with my replacement key and begged me not to lose it since that would mean the housekeeper can't even get in (how laughable). What's worse was that the other guests were able to use their phone or a passcode to get in since all the room had e-locks. When I asked the man at the "front desk" why I needed a physical key, he said that not all of the e-locks were working--including the one for my room. What a load BS. A horribly dingy hotel that can't even get its most basic sh*t together. Stay at this incompetently run hotel at your own risk or better yet find much better options.

If you're a low budget traveler, bring your own power bank and don't need to plug in a laptop or work from cafes, then this will work for you. It's about $35 a night here on a weekday. Pros: 1. Great location at Marina District. Walkable to many northern parks and Marina District shopping/dining area. Walkable to many coffee shops and Body Temp Yoga...there were several yoga studios nearby. 2. Clean, cool, fresh vibe. It was spacious and had lots of light. 3. Outdoor garden - to relax, smoke. There is a pond and the sound of running water is so relaxing. Looks like some cruiser bikes were there either for you to borrow...not sure. 4. The common dresser area had alot of amenities such as sunblock, hair spray, aloe if you get sunburned, deodorant, hair gel, lotion, face lotion, etc. 5. Safe - the neighborhood and the tenants/guests seemed nice 6. TV at each pod - don't know if it works, I didn't use 7. Upstairs conference room for working, taking calls, I saw someone gaming in there. Also there is a TV couch lounge to work or take calls. Cons: 1. Can't really work here unless you bring your own power. Most of the POWER OUTLETS and USB OUTLETS DO NOT WORK. I tried all in the common downstairs work area, and plugged into a few empty pods that were not mine. Tried the sofa/tv room upstairs as well. One USB outlet worked in common downstairs area. 2. There are 17 pods (beds) and 2 bathrooms. If you are waking up from 5:45a to 9:30a, you will have to wait. When I stayed, only 10 or 11 pods were occupied, and the bathroom was not accessible. I booked a yoga class nearby at Body Temp Yoga (ashtanga style). It's a 3 minute walk, just use restroom there, or figure something else out. 3. Only 1 shower inside the gender neutral restroom. There were perhaps one person who smelled of BO, like they didn't shower for a long time, and you can smell them 15 feet away. Not the fault of the Sharepod. 4. If you check in after 10p, all the lights are out. If you check in after 11pm, there are additional procedures. Just keep it in mind. 5. Parking - didn't see a parking lot. I took BART and rideshares, so not a problem for me. 6. You're in a big open room with 17 people. I rather have a place like Orange Hostel, where its 4 females to a room and 4 persons share 1 restroom. They wake up at 5:45a. If you're a light sleeper, this will not work for you. I'm a heavy sleeper and I woke up. 7. Last thing, the blanket was so small it covered only half my body. Use your coat to cover the other half. lol. At least they ran the heat in the beginning of the night and the place ran warm (even for me who likes hot yoga). It may get chilly in winter, so bring you wool layers and socks. Will I stay here again? For the location maybe. If I can figure a better power outlet situation to charge laptop and cell phone, and access to restroom. Also, I like being closer and walkable to Financial District and Chinatown.

After working a 9-hour overnight shift, I received a phone call from the manager at around 10. Instead of speaking respectfully, he insisted yelling at me over the phone about their policies and claim I broke policy and threaten me Regardless of their rules, calling a guest at 9am and speaking to them aggressively is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. If there was an issue with my stay, it could have been handled calmly. I then arrived to check out after staying there already for 2 nights he proceeds to inform me that I broke the policy rules overstaying my visit. To which I asked him why not address me about when I checked in two days previously. He then proceeded to yell at me aggressively not have a respectful tone and give me the respect to have a conversation man to man. But instead act like a child and yell and cut me off while I was talking thinking I was trying to argue with him. He Then added he had proof so when I asked him for his proof that I knew I was wrong and intentionally over stayed my visit he kept telling me why should I show you and kept ordering me to leave instead of doubling down. The way the manager handled the situation was disrespectful and made me feel uncomfortable. I would not recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a peaceful stay or respectful staff. The customer service here was one of the worst I've experienced.
