The Metro Hotel was fantastic in a great location. The hotel is within waking distance of Haight street and the Painted ladies. Any direction you turn is a good decision with great views and so many parks. Coffee and food are common in this neighbourhood. Just go out and find it. We stayed in a couple of rooms at different times and each room is uniquely designed and clean. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. Looking forward to my next stay at the Metro hotel!

Really great spot! Excellent location and quiet hotel. We were in town for an audition and the staff was really accommodating with giving us an extra quiet room and allowing late check-out. The garden is lovely! Super friendly staff and comfortable rooms. It's an older building, so there are some quirks that come along with that, but it adds charm!

We felt a bit catfished by this property - the website makes it look sleek with the charm of a historical building, but the interior was pretty gnarly. Our original room on the first floor was... not good. The room had a window that overlooked an air vent that seemed to blow exhaust and smoke from the restaurant next door, giving the room a terrible smell. There was also loud music heard from our arrival (4 pm) to when we got back (9 pm). At that point, we asked the front desk if any other rooms were available, and he was able to switch us to the room directly above, which was surprisingly much quieter and more normal feeling. However, the soap ran out the next day, and the bathroom didn't feel all that clean (hair in the soap dish in the shower) The carpets are old and stained, the paintings in the hallways are askew, and the rooms are soooo small. Thankfully, it wasn't loud at night so we slept fine, and the location was great. But I could not recommend this hotel.

I can't wait to stay here again! This boutique hotel is absolutely adorable! Our room was beautiful & quiet. Beds were so comfy & linens were crisp & wonderfully fresh. The bathroom towels were so soft & fluffy! The front desk guy (Derek I think?) was helpful & friendly. The location was perfect for our short walk to The Independent theater for the event we came to town for. We felt very safe walking in the neighborhood, even late at night. Our car was safe & secure at the hospital parking garage that wasn't too far away. There are SO many great restaurants & shops within walking distance. Do not miss coffee & pastries a few doors down at the cafe on the corner. So good & convenient. If I were to deduct stars for anything, it would maybe be that the shower nozzle could use an upgrade. It was the only thing about this place that didn't quite hit the mark. I will definitely be back to stay here again. Amazing value too!

    The Haight Ashbury room

We stayed in th e metro hotel, and the facility was quite lovely. There is a nice garden where we did morning yoga and we stayed in the haight Ashbury room which was quite spacious for 3 people. The location is perfect, walking distance to great food, haight st shopping, and golden gate park. The only downside for me is that the lobby and hallways are very heavily fragranced with a perfumey vanilla scent. It was being sprayed into the lobby regularly, and it triggered an asthma attack for me. They also use strong smelling cheap laundry soap, which I really hate. Fortunately, I brought my own pillow. I would totally recommend this hotel otherwise, but just a warning to other asthmatics on the fragrance spray. It made my belongings smell as well by spraying directly on my suitcase while I was checking in.

My friends came upon the Metro Hotel when we decided to make last minute plans to stay a whole weekend in San Francisco. We chose the Metro Hotel based on price (within our budget), location (acceptable walk away from BART stations and the Castro district), and how clean and acceptable the rooms looked both on Yelp and their website. When we checked into the hotel, we were kindly and immediately greeted by the front desk receptionist who quickly checked us in and gave us information and tips on the area. Even with the hotel utilizing physical keys, we were able to have two pairs of keys which was very convenient. When we came to our room 109 (interestingly named the Lion's Den in my email confirmation), we found the room to be very clean and comfy. Bed sheets were exceeded expectations especially with the fuzzy duvet blankets provided. The wall between the beds was nice when half our group was asleep and the other was awake. TV had cable which lets you watch a handful of channels like Food Network, Comedy Central, and other lovable channels. Towel service and beds were made immediately while we were gone which was very convenient for us. Ice was available upon front desk request. While our San Francisco adventure was a little chaotic, we found the Metro Hotel to be our safe haven for a multitude of reasons. One was that the lobby had a cute little dispenser with lemon-infused water for guests to drink from which was a delight to come upon every time we arrived back at the hotel. It was great coming back to a clean cozy hotel room each night of our stay. The hotel is also situated in area with tons of cafes, shops and even a decent chill bar across the street - The Page. Public transportation was also much better than expected as we found there was a ton of buses that stopped 1-2 min away from the hotel which was a major convenience to us. There's even a muni stop thats about a 8min walk from the hotel. The Metro Hotel may not be like those big chain hotels with numerous amenities, but it was one of the best hotel experiences I've had as the smaller hotel feel allowed for a more personal experience with the friendly staff. The hotel carried alot of charm that you won't see anywhere else. I would definitely book here again the next time I'm in the area. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

This is such a cute boutique hotel in Lower Haight, San Francisco! I was really in love with the neighborhood's Victorian-themed architecture, it is super friendly and has so many great local coffee shops to try for days. The location is close by to Alamo Square, the Painted Ladies, and some other artsy street murals. When my partner-in-crime and I got here, we were warmly welcomed by Angela, at the front desk. We were given our room keys and we went straight upstairs to our room to put down our luggage before beginning our adventures. I stayed in Room 103 which faces Divisadero Street so we get a lot of sunlight but we have to close the shades at night for privacy. This room is a comfortable home away from home! We were happy with this room came with our own private bathroom whereas not all rooms here do, so make sure when you book! Online reservations made it super easy and I would suggest booking months in advance because this place gets booked up very quickly! One minor issue we had was that the internet was very spotty on the last day of our stay but on the other days, it was fine.

Adorable personal note from the staff!

The check-in process was smooth. The front desk was very helpful in getting us in and filling out a card authorization form. We were surprised by the valet price however - $90 is definitely high. There is no self parking but the prices for the lots nearby are just as high, if not higher for overnight. We really enjoyed our room. It is definitely not the most spacious but felt quite luxurious. We booked a double queen room and were placed in Rm 920. There was limited walking space around the ends of the beds and desk. There was a beautiful view of the courtyard and city. I love that the room was very well-lit. There is ambient lighting and brighter lights you can turn on next to the beds. My friends and I loved the window that separated the bathroom from the sleeping space. It was quite comical and made getting ready for a night out very fun. There blinds for both the bathroom window and outside window were motorized which was a nice touch. The beds were pretty comfortable but nothing too special - I appreciate them having a bunch of pillows. The mini fridge and coffee bar felt pretty luxe and were much fancier than those are other hotels I've stayed at. There were plenty of outlets throughout the room and next to the beds. The whole vibe of the hotel feels very sleek and modern. The hallways are lit with a ambient blue. The inside of the elevators are themed which is super cute for pics. The gym is very nice too, loaded with more than your typical treadmill and elliptical. The lobby felt clean and had little robot things scooting around that apparently are used for room service. I would definitely stay here again so I can explore what I didn't get to see on my short stay!

They always remember that I love to have a tea kettle for my evening hot tea, So they have it sent to my room as soon as I arrive. I always get a king room and I've stayed on so many floors, The rooms are consistently clean and well maintained. I've never had a bad room experience in all of my stays. That has a lot to do with the amazing housekeeping crew. They come in daily to refresh and reset the room, So when I come in, the bed is made, the bathroom is refreshed everything is in place and reset. Not once have I ever had to ask for anything to be sent up to my room. It's all already taken care of. And let's talk about the breakfast setup! Because this is one of the best hotel breakfast I've ever had in my life. There's a hot bar with bacon, sausage and potatoes and eggs and it rotates daily. There's a yogurt bar with fresh fruit and even hard boiled eggs, there's always oatmeal with toppings. There's a center island filled with all of the carbs you can think of even tortillas. The bananas are always just ripe and that's rare. And there are two coffee stations one by the breakfast area and one by the front entry. I love the coffee! I really like the walkability of this hotel too! It's only a block from my office and very close to Oracle stadium as well as being close to the embarcadero walkway. I cannot say enough great things about this hotel and the crew. I love staying here and will always highly recommend this location. Tell them that I sent you! I want to say kudos to the leadership team because whatever you're doing, It's working and it should be duplicated in other hotels. See y'all next month!

However, from the very beginning to end ranged from confusion, annoyance, to plain nightmare. The check in process was confusing and and cumbersome. I was given no check in information, and there was no front desk. The intercom at the front door did not even work, and I had to call their actual "front desk" who apparently said they did not have my information on file and made me go through these annoying steps just to find my hotel room key in a lock box. The most frustrating and nightmarish experience came the next day when I lost the hotel room key (a physical key). I called the "front desk" several times but received no answer then finally got one after about 10 minutes. When I told the man at the "front desk," he told that he would have to speak to the housekeeper. After waiting for another 10 minutes, he informed me that I would be getting fined $200 for the lost room key, which is plain ridiculous, since they didn't have a replacement key (other than the housekeeper's key). I understand a $25 or $50 fee for a lost key but $200 for a freaking key???! After waiting for about 40 minutes total, he finally walked over with my replacement key and begged me not to lose it since that would mean the housekeeper can't even get in (how laughable). What's worse was that the other guests were able to use their phone or a passcode to get in since all the room had e-locks. When I asked the man at the "front desk" why I needed a physical key, he said that not all of the e-locks were working--including the one for my room. What a load BS. A horribly dingy hotel that can't even get its most basic sh*t together. Stay at this incompetently run hotel at your own risk or better yet find much better options.

Butler Service…read more I came to the Bay Area for a relative's 80th birthday and booked The St. Regis because it was the only Forbes Five-Star rated hotel in San Francisco. I'm usually hesitant to stay at American hotel chains' "luxury products" because they often just feel like Marriotts with nicer tile (most new Ritz-Carltons, for example). I found the St. Regis to actually offer the kind of luxury service that is often missing in American hotels. I arrived fairly early, around 11:00 a.m., and the staff were incredibly friendly, accommodating both an early check-in and late check-out, along with a room upgrade. Prior to this stay, I didn't really understand the purpose of butler service, but they were kind enough to gift-wrap the presents for the birthday party I was attending while I booked a massage and walked around the city. The spa at the St. Regis is fairly large, with an indoor heated pool (well designed), a gender-separated steam room (out of order during my visit), and a sauna. I will say the spa could use an expansion or renovation. The "relaxation room" felt a bit like a repurposed salt room, and the men's lounge basically just had tea and snacks. The massage itself was great, and everyone there was extremely friendly. What really impressed me was the service. I casually asked whether they had bath salts available for use in my room, and within 30 minutes of leaving the spa, bath salts, bubble bath, and bottled water were delivered to my room without my needing to make a special request. Great attention to detail. I walked through the gym and it seemed large enough for a full circuit workout, with plenty of equipment. I do wish the hotel had more dedicated lobby or guest lounge areas. The check-in area, bar, and restaurant all seemed to blend together into one shared space, which felt fairly busy in the evening when non-guests came in for happy hour. The bar was nice but honestly expensive and not especially memorable. I was a bit surprised by some of the clientele (there were what I assumed to be a couple "working ladies" at the bar who I wonder if their services were less than the cost of breakfast in hindsight), though very friendly occasionally felt slightly out of sync with the otherwise polished atmosphere of the hotel. I didn't try the restaurant for dinner. The hotel does offer a complimentary car service around the local area, though unfortunately it was booked when I needed it. Breakfast was expensive, easily over $100 per person for a fairly normal order, but it was very tasty. The Eggs Benedict were perfectly cooked and included truffle, which was fantastic. The room was clean and comfortable. I do think it could have used a deeper scrub, though I admit my standards may be skewed by an exceptional housekeeper at home. There was also a slight musty odor. It was not on the level of a room at an average Belmond property or the former Mandarin Oriental Miami, but it was spacious and perfectly comfortable for one person. I'm not entirely sure whether St. Regis considers itself directly competitive with those brands. In summary, the service is what makes this hotel worthy of five stars. They seem genuinely happy to accommodate nearly anything you might need or even casually mention wanting. Personally, I find San Francisco itself dirty, stressful, expensive, and rough around the edges, so having a hotel that felt calm, polished, and attentive made a huge difference in my trip.

Love the polenta) and the brussel sprouts (menu said it was gremoleta/garlic/parmesan flavor but it ended up being gochujang flavor and it was overly sauced). Was not a huge fan. The hotel is dog friendly. They give you a bed and bowl and treats. The pet fee is steep at $200 per stay. There is the Yerba Buena gardens across the street (5 minute walk) to take your dog out. The park is clean with lots of grass. This was one of the deciding factors of us picking this hotel because it's hard to find grass area in the city. They allowed me late check out at 5pm which is awesome!! Also, they have a chi hair dryer which is very powerful. Location in Financial District is very central to a lot of eateries and next door to Soma.

The hotel used to be quite a few other properties, so while they may have decorated it, it's not the luxurious experience we've had at other hotels. The property doesn't really have a real lobby, spa, and the restaurant is average, as in the quality of the food was just not top notch, and they have access to the best ingredients. They only have two elevators and are quite slow, at a busy time this can be quite annoying. The room itself was small, no real furniture, would have been nice to have a sofa and table with two chairs. There was no dresser. The bathroom was great for one, but small for two. The shower didn't have a bench, no his or her's sinks. The bed when we got into it was super soft and not supportive, when we called they did something really odd and put a board on the mattress and then a topper. I guess they have a guest that asks for this. Why didn't the service people know they have a firm version of the mattress topper they could have switched for us. We didn't have the best sleep. Again, usually the Four Seasons beds are amazing. While this property doesn't charge regular Four Seasons prices, it also doesn't deliver the experience and it would be a shame if the brand started doing this.

Warm customer service - not that we needed much, but it was storming all weekend and we were able to borrow umbrellas from the front desk. The bed was enormous, and our room was relatively quiet considering we were adjacent to Embarcadero. Loved that this hotel was across the street from the Ferry Building. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back!
