Fridge, microwave & coffee maker
Redwood G.

Well, I almost hate to write a review because I don't want to not be able to get a room here next time I'm in SF. This place was built in 1939 and has a charm you rarely see in a "motel". The first thing you notice when you pull in is the cobblestone courtyard filled with gorgeous plants and flowers! And I mean GORGEOUS! There are beautifully painted murals all around and it has an old school, almost European, feel. The woman at the front desk was so kind and friendly. She gave me directions to the function I was going to the next day and I was so glad it was within walking distance. The neighborhood is fine for walking and I enjoyed it. The room (#11) was small, but efficient. It had a small fridge & microwave as well as a well stocked coffee maker and supplies. My only complaint would be the bed. I am 5 feet tall and had a really hard time climbing up onto it. It's very high and I'm 67 years old, so it was quite a feat and I am really glad no one was there to laugh at me. Mattress was very firm. TV was small, but in a small room you don't need anything bigger. The parking is in these little individual garages that were below the rooms. There isn't enough for every room, so keep that in mind if you go out & come back. But let's talk about the grounds!!! When I came back from my event, I ran into Brendan (hope I got that right) who walked me around and gave me the history of the place. He was so knowledgeable and charming. One of the giant Fuchsia Trees there is 89 years old! The flowers were absolutely amazing. It's pet friendly and lots of folks had doggos and it made me miss mine. She'll be coming with me next time & there will DEFINITELY be a next time!

Our stay was great and check in was super easy and employees were nice. Our check in time was 4pm but we got there at 2pm and asked if we could park our car there and the employee was kind enough to let us check in early which was great! & parking is free and in a garage covered area! Only negative thing I'd say is we couldn't figure out was A/C we wanted to turn the AC on but it didn't turn on but thankfully SF was cool enough with the windows open we didn't need the AC. What I look for when staying at hotels or airbnbs is cleanliness so this passed for my family and we'd definitely stay again!

Part 2 of 5 part review

Buckle up for what I'm about to share because before staying at MM I couldn't have even fathomed the unfair, hugely reactionary, completely aggressive treatment I experienced from one of their team members AND the manager. See attached photos as this is a 5 part review. Assuming you don't want to read the entirety of what I've shared , basically: they have no WiFi, accused me of trying to skip out on my bill (when I was told my card was on file & I'd been charged for my stay), refused to listen to me, threw away my property, locked me out of my room and called the cops after I'd done NOTHING wrong, & violated my rights as an individual protected under ADA by accusing me of lying about my invisible disability and my need for a service animal. Read on & you can judge for yourself if this is a place you want to stay. But honestly, do yourself a favor because after getting the heck out of MM I found MUCH NICER and more modern places to stay in the neighborhood for FAR LESS. Either way, since the manager REFUSED to let me get a word in edgewise to explain how misinformed he was, I'll go ahead and air it all below. NOTE: This is a "family run business" which apparently means they only believe their own, won't even hear their customers out to even consider any wrong doing on their part, and then lock their customers out. FIRST: My situation is unique because after my initial AirBnB reservation, I had follow up reservations while my home was under construction after discovering mold growing in my bedroom wall. I am an SF resident (live about a mile from MM) who just wanted the basics and a simple place to stay. I was also self-aware enough at the start of my stay to recognize I was coming out of a hugely stressful situation at home, and therefore I wanted to be extremely mindful of my interactions with the staff and never let my stress at home pour-over into any of my communications. SECOND: They immediately left me an AirBnB review after completing the first of my back-to-back my stay which states: "Wonderful guest! Communicated clearly and promptly, respected our property, and left the room in great condition. We would be happy to host again in the future." So know that I'm not some snooty guest that expects perfection from my hosts and then complains if I don't have the idyllic stay. I'm assuming they've taken down the review they left me because I waited to post my review (not realizing they'd be able to remove/edit theirs until I left mine), otherwise I'd suggest you read it. THIRD: As someone who tries to be as self-aware and empathetic as possible, after the utter disrespect I experienced I STILL tried to put myself in the manager's shoes to contemplate what could've possibly gone wrong. After doing so, I couldn't come up with anything other than I asked for a bill adjustment and the manager agreed to do so. Even if MM found me to be a nuisance for some reason, it in no way warranted their response by violating my rights as a consumer and as a person protected under ADA (I'm an individual with an invisible disability). THE LEAD-UP: Their internet was always out. So my first interaction with Sandra (99% certain that was her name) was inquiring about the wifi continuously being down and her demeanor was just awful-- ZERO sympathy or care for the customer that something I expected upon paying for the room was not provided. Her attitude was so obvious and off-putting that I almost said something to the manager the next day. However, I could tell he had a lot on his plate and seemed a bit stressed, so (as a thoughtful person) I decided to just let it go and hope it was a one off... My last booking with them was for approx 2 wks. Originally this final booking was for 4 nights, but construction was going long so I extended it to 2 wks. Upon extending my stay, I asked for the updated invoice which they provided (PIC BELOW) in the amount of $1205. A day later I thought this sounded low, so I asked them to email me the updated invoice again. And again it showed $1205 for a 13 DAY STAY. Later that day, I (the customer) had to sit down and really examine the invoice and then realized the new invoice wasn't charging me for the extra 9 days I extended. So, as an honest person, I went to the front desk for a THIRD TIME, informed them of THEIR BILLING ERRORS, and finally they then corrected it to the new amount of $3818 (PIC AGAIN BELOW). Well... since I rent here in SF, and the mold was growing in my unit, my landlord was responsible for my "relocation fees". At this point they owed me more than $13K (which they were supposed to pay me immediately upon vacating my unit). I'd emailed them twice asking for the funds and was told they were on vacation but would mail the check to me upon their return-- which was over a holiday wknd 2 days into my 2 wk stay at MM. At this point, I'd already paid about $4K for the time already spent at MM, and was preparing to pay $1205 (that MM repeatedly told me) but now had to pay $3818.

I love this place!! Family & woman owned and dog friendly. My family & I stay here every time we come to SF. Gorgeous flowers everywhere & Spanish Mediterranean architecture, it feels like you're in Europe. Free garage parking & close to the bus stops. Great location, a street up from Chestnut with shopping & food. And a 5 minute walk to the Palace of fine Arts and the beach. I cannot recommend this place more.

We loved it. We travelled from Houston to visit the city and this place reminded me of my Grandmother's home in Mexico. The flowers were beautiful and the room was clean and provided everything we needed for our two night stay. We had an SUV that wasn't quite right (small enough) for the garage parking but the front desk let me know I could park on the other side of the building and I was very grateful for that. The nights were cool and we enjoyed sleeping with the windows open. If we are ever in the area in the future- we will definitely stay again.

I was in San Francisco in early December 2024 for a craft fair at Heath Ceramics and stayed at the charming dog-friendly Marina Motel - built in 1939! It has a beautiful courtyard and we met a lovely caretaker who has worked there for decades lovingly attending to the plants and flowers in the beautiful courtyard. All the staff were so great... even a proper Brit making me feel like I was living upstairs in Downton Abbey. I was loaded up with my bronze goods for the show but was able to park in a tiny old-style garage below my unit with a padlock to lock it up. Down the street is a pizza place which was a favorite of local legend Robin Williams. Very fun SF experience... on Lombard Street no less!

Worst experience, stay somewhere else better. Pictures description show a quiet courtyard with flowers, and I received an unsafe room facing Motel Luna, in a really car loud, busy street that didn't let my family sleep after 16 hours drive, and homeless people hanging by my room stairs at night, making it unsafe for my young family to leave the room alone. I requested a cancellation for the second night I decided not to sleep there, and they refused to fully refund the money that night. I paid $336 for a big headache, and not even an apology.

I loved my stay here. This is such a hidden gem in a bustling city! I can admit to being sheltered, and a little bit of a snob. I travel often, and usually on the high end side 4+ star. We were camping, and wanted to feel human again. I had my dogs with me so I needed to find last minute accommodations that were budget and pet friendly. Upon arrival we almost left because it was not inviting from the street view at night. Then when we turned into the court yard, the parking was so tight, I was afraid I was going to scratch up my brand new car (RAV4 2022) it was a tight fit, but I managed. The front desk guy really wasn't helpful, and pretty indifferent. Because of this I almost turned around and drove off because I felt uncomfortable. I can admit I was tired, cranky, and a weary traveler needing a safe space to relax. I'm so glad that I didn't drive off because once we got into the room it was such a pleasant surprise! I literally just paid 25,000 points at a crappy Marriott that isn't even comparable to this. The room was very clean, comfortable, fully stocked kitchen. This reminds me of a European style hotel. It has everything you need except for lots of space, so if you need that probably not the place for you. The heater does make a weird clicking noise, that was initially creepy. Once I figured it out, it's all good. This place was built in 1939 afterall! We didn't come here with high expectations, just needed a place to crash. We had 2 full beds, a full kitchen with a door, and a bathroom also with a door. Essentially it is like a studio apartment centrally located. The court yard is really cute and has flowers hanging from the wall. It's really adorable in the day light. From the kitchen window you can see all the neighboring homes, very quaint. I will definitely come back here! We really enjoyed our stay, thank you. Marina Motel far exceeded our expectations, and really put us in a great mood. Ready to see San Fransisco!

Loved this place! Talk about stepping back in time the room was large with a speedster bedroom and two twins in the living area The room had a fridge/micro and a coffee maker. The bathroom was clean and roomy with complimentary toiletries the bedroom had a large bed and just a small amount of room on each side but was sufficient the staff was helpful and had some free cookies in the lobby. I loved the flowers and the courtyard and would come back next time in the area. lots of great places to walk and eat and get coffee very close

SEMI-PET FRIENDLY Location 10/10 if you want to be within walking distance of everything and are a heavy sleeper; 0/10 if you are a light sleeper since this is literally on the main road. The courtyard is cute and you also get a private parking garage when available which is a huge plus. Also triple or quadruple check and call before booking if you have pets. I specifically picked the courtyard queen on their website since the room description did not have "Not Pet Friendly" so I was assuming this was a pet friendly room and made the reservation. Got to the hotel said the "courtyard queen" room I booked was not pet friendly and I'd either had to find somewhere else or pay $100 extra on top of the regular $25 pet fee. Ended up paying the extra $100 since it was already dark and didn't want to spend my whole night looking for a new hotel. Wanted to try a new place, but I wouldn't book again. Should've just went with what I know and booked at Hotel del Sol instead. Would've paid the same and got more amenities and better customer service.

This motel was great for location and parking alone. You get your own parking garage, I didn't because I had darn roof storage but still parking was great and free. The rooms are quaint and they display pictures from the 1930's. There even was a little kitchen area. The garden/courtyard area is very beautiful. Check in was easy. If you are looking for a gym or pool or what not, then this place is definitely not for you. But if you want a cute place with free parking with location to everything and want to sightsee, then check it out!

The check-in process was smooth. The front desk was very helpful in getting us in and filling out a card authorization form. We were surprised by the valet price however - $90 is definitely high. There is no self parking but the prices for the lots nearby are just as high, if not higher for overnight. We really enjoyed our room. It is definitely not the most spacious but felt quite luxurious. We booked a double queen room and were placed in Rm 920. There was limited walking space around the ends of the beds and desk. There was a beautiful view of the courtyard and city. I love that the room was very well-lit. There is ambient lighting and brighter lights you can turn on next to the beds. My friends and I loved the window that separated the bathroom from the sleeping space. It was quite comical and made getting ready for a night out very fun. There blinds for both the bathroom window and outside window were motorized which was a nice touch. The beds were pretty comfortable but nothing too special - I appreciate them having a bunch of pillows. The mini fridge and coffee bar felt pretty luxe and were much fancier than those are other hotels I've stayed at. There were plenty of outlets throughout the room and next to the beds. The whole vibe of the hotel feels very sleek and modern. The hallways are lit with a ambient blue. The inside of the elevators are themed which is super cute for pics. The gym is very nice too, loaded with more than your typical treadmill and elliptical. The lobby felt clean and had little robot things scooting around that apparently are used for room service. I would definitely stay here again so I can explore what I didn't get to see on my short stay!

I always get a king room and I've stayed on so many floors, The rooms are consistently clean and well maintained. I've never had a bad room experience in all of my stays. Not once have I ever had to ask for anything to be sent up to my room. It's all already taken care of. And let's talk about the breakfast setup! Because this is one of the best hotel breakfast I've ever had in my life. There's a hot bar with bacon, sausage and potatoes and eggs and it rotates daily. There's a yogurt bar with fresh fruit and even hard boiled eggs, there's always oatmeal with toppings. There's a center island filled with all of the carbs you can think of even tortillas. The bananas are always just ripe and that's rare. And there are two coffee stations one by the breakfast area and one by the front entry. I love the coffee! However, from the very beginning to end ranged from confusion, annoyance, to plain nightmare. The check in process was confusing and and cumbersome. I was given no check in information, and there was no front desk. The intercom at the front door did not even work, and I had to call their actual "front desk" who apparently said they did not have my information on file and made me go through these annoying steps just to find my hotel room key in a lock box. The most frustrating and nightmarish experience came the next day when I lost the hotel room key (a physical key). I called the "front desk" several times but received no answer then finally got one after about 10 minutes. When I told the man at the "front desk," he told that he would have to speak to the housekeeper. After waiting for another 10 minutes, he informed me that I would be getting fined $200 for the lost room key, which is plain ridiculous, since they didn't have a replacement key (other than the housekeeper's key). I understand a $25 or $50 fee for a lost key but $200 for a freaking key???! After waiting for about 40 minutes total, he finally walked over with my replacement key and begged me not to lose it since that would mean the housekeeper can't even get in (how laughable). What's worse was that the other guests were able to use their phone or a passcode to get in since all the room had e-locks. When I asked the man at the "front desk" why I needed a physical key, he said that not all of the e-locks were working--including the one for my room. What a load BS. A horribly dingy hotel that can't even get its most basic sh*t together. Stay at this incompetently run hotel at your own risk or better yet find much better options.

Amazing Service. Good Value. Butler Service…read more I came to the Bay Area for a relative's 80th birthday and booked The St. Regis because it was the only Forbes Five-Star rated hotel in San Francisco. I'm usually hesitant to stay at American hotel chains' "luxury products" because they often just feel like Marriotts with nicer tile (most new Ritz-Carltons, for example). I found the St. Regis to actually offer the kind of luxury service that is often missing in American hotels. I arrived fairly early, around 11:00 a.m., and the staff were incredibly friendly, accommodating both an early check-in and late check-out, along with a room upgrade. Prior to this stay, I didn't really understand the purpose of butler service, but they were kind enough to gift-wrap the presents for the birthday party I was attending while I booked a massage and walked around the city. The spa at the St. Regis is fairly large, with an indoor heated pool (well designed), a gender-separated steam room (out of order during my visit), and a sauna. I will say the spa could use an expansion or renovation. The "relaxation room" felt a bit like a repurposed salt room, and the men's lounge basically just had tea and snacks. The massage itself was great, and everyone there was extremely friendly. What really impressed me was the service. I casually asked whether they had bath salts available for use in my room, and within 30 minutes of leaving the spa, bath salts, bubble bath, and bottled water were delivered to my room without my needing to make a special request. Great attention to detail. I walked through the gym and it seemed large enough for a full circuit workout, with plenty of equipment. I do wish the hotel had more dedicated lobby or guest lounge areas. The check-in area, bar, and restaurant all seemed to blend together into one shared space, which felt fairly busy in the evening when non-guests came in for happy hour. The bar was nice but honestly expensive and not especially memorable. I was a bit surprised by some of the clientele (there were what I assumed to be a couple "working ladies" at the bar who I wonder if their services were less than the cost of breakfast in hindsight), though very friendly occasionally felt slightly out of sync with the otherwise polished atmosphere of the hotel. I didn't try the restaurant for dinner. The hotel does offer a complimentary car service around the local area, though unfortunately it was booked when I needed it. Breakfast was expensive, easily over $100 per person for a fairly normal order, but it was very tasty. The Eggs Benedict were perfectly cooked and included truffle, which was fantastic. The room was clean and comfortable. I do think it could have used a deeper scrub, though I admit my standards may be skewed by an exceptional housekeeper at home. There was also a slight musty odor. It was not on the level of a room at an average Belmond property or the former Mandarin Oriental Miami, but it was spacious and perfectly comfortable for one person. I'm not entirely sure whether St. Regis considers itself directly competitive with those brands. In summary, the service is what makes this hotel worthy of five stars. They seem genuinely happy to accommodate nearly anything you might need or even casually mention wanting. Personally, I find San Francisco itself dirty, stressful, expensive, and rough around the edges, so having a hotel that felt calm, polished, and attentive made a huge difference in my trip.

Breakfast: Two farm egg any style. Fine but small portions for $32. Would not order again. Chilaquiles. Also fine but basic for $35. Would not order again. Sourdough muffin sandwich: If you want best value for price ($26), get this. It's seriously huge and filling. California croissant: This one is like an elevated avocado toast. It's really good. Price is $31. The mixed berry antioxidant smoothie is also meh. I can make a better smoothie at home. As part of The Edit they also give you $100 credit to use on food and drinks only at the hotel. It was SF restaurant week so we ordered the $90 3 course meal for dinner at the hotel restaurant Astra. We ordered the duck cannoli (ok tasting but the duck is cold), braised short rib (very good! Love the polenta) and the brussel sprouts (menu said it was gremoleta/garlic/parmesan flavor but it ended up being gochujang flavor and it was overly sauced). Was not a huge fan. The hotel is dog friendly. They give you a bed and bowl and treats. The pet fee is steep at $200 per stay. There is the Yerba Buena gardens across the street (5 minute walk) to take your dog out. The park is clean with lots of grass. This was one of the deciding factors of us picking this hotel because it's hard to find grass area in the city. They allowed me late check out at 5pm which is awesome!! Also, they have a chi hair dryer which is very powerful. Location in Financial District is very central to a lot of eateries and next door to Soma.

Not sure who the GM is, but they need to take a bow for creating and maintaining a culture of pride and excellence. The staff is happy to be here and it shows in every small detail. The staff made an ordinary stay an extraordinary guest experience. If you are trying to determine where to stay in SFO, look no further!

I have a problem with this being a Four Seasons, because it's really not that type of experience…read moreand I wouldn't think they would just throw their brand around. The hotel used to be quite a few other properties, so while they may have decorated it, it's not the luxurious experience we've had at other hotels. The views are to die for, we had a room that spanned windows from Golden Gate to Bay Bridge, it was amazing being on the 45th floor and seeing the night sky and morning sunrise. The property doesn't really have a real lobby, spa, and the restaurant is average, as in the quality of the food was just not top notch, and they have access to the best ingredients. They only have two elevators and are quite slow, at a busy time this can be quite annoying. The room itself was small, no real furniture, would have been nice to have a sofa and table with two chairs. There was no dresser. The bathroom was great for one, but small for two. The shower didn't have a bench, no his or her's sinks. The bed when we got into it was super soft and not supportive, when we called they did something really odd and put a board on the mattress and then a topper. I guess they have a guest that asks for this. Why didn't the service people know they have a firm version of the mattress topper they could have switched for us. We didn't have the best sleep. Again, usually the Four Seasons beds are amazing. While this property doesn't charge regular Four Seasons prices, it also doesn't deliver the experience and it would be a shame if the brand started doing this.
