We stayed here for 2 nights as part of a west coast trip. The hotel is old school motel vibes and feels very beachy. The staff are all incredibly kind. I LOVE that they will hold your luggage for you before and after check out. This made our trip very simple and enjoyable our first day since we arrived early in SF. The continental breakfast is simple, but good! They offer bagels, yogurt, pastries, oatmeal and coffee/orange juice/tea. The room was very clean but did smell a little musty once the cleaning products wore off. I think the rooms could benefit from dehumidifiers. Overall, it's a great location and priced reasonably for the area! read more

This is a enjoyable motel like place to stay. It's very secure. With parking. And a modest breakfast in the morning. Pool is in the middle of the courtyard with lots of chairs etc for hanging out. It's quiet inside the complex. There are a few negatives - like the stairs are kinda quirky but it's an older place with lots of charm. The price points are more than reasonable. read more

I landed into this hotel by chance via Hotwire and it is a wonderful gem! It's been nicely renovated with a happy and welcoming vibe. The receptionist matched that vibe and she was so friendly! The grounds are very clean as well as a pool that has ample seating for lounging. I could see this place as a nice spot to gather with a few friends during warmer nights. It is also a pretty quiet area - at least when we were there (on a Friday night). They do have a gated parking lot (it is not free) but it is tiny and spots are Very, very snug. Luckily our Toyota RAV4 was able to maneuver through and fit but I had to unload everyone and our stuff out before settling it into the space. The rooms were perfect for two of us and a dog and they were clean and tidy. The beds were also comfortable. There was a small eating table in our room and a large flat screen TV. The only complaint coming from my child was that the TV didn't really work - only one channel was available and it was a crime history type of channel (not really somethjng I was mad about ). Otherwise our one-nighter was one of the most comfortable and relaxing nights I've ever had! The biggest plus is they are very dog friendly! They do have a weight limit (I think it was 40lbs) and they have a pet fee. There is also a dog park down the street! The location, in general, is actually excellent- right in the middle of some of the most popular neighborhoods: Pacific Heights, the Cow Hollow, Marina district... It is also pretty darn close to Fort Mason, Palace of fine arts, and the Presidio. Really great place to stay if you're touristing because there's lots of opportunity for exploring and it wouldn't be difficult on foot or via Uber! Just make sure to bring some comfy walking shoes. read more

I had a delightful experience at Hotel Del Sol in the Marina District. This boutique hotel is small but mighty. It was clean, and the staff was accommodating and attentive. The daily continental breakfast was a nice touch, and the cookies at the front desk were phenomenal. The heated pool was a nice addition, although I didn't use it. A few things to consider before booking: this is a boutique hotel, so everything is small and compact, including the elevators, bathrooms, lobby, and other facilities. The TV doesn't have regular channels or cable, so you have to Chromecast from your phone. The walls are thin, so it can be a little loud at times; however, the property was very quiet during my stay, especially in the morning. Besides all that, the area felt safe, and taxis, Ubers, and Lyfts were just minutes away when I called them. I would definitely stay here again. read more

Great stay for the price we paid and the location. Rooms were nice, clean, and not dingy what so ever. Location is 10/10 with not only restaurants but great night life all near by. Everything you'd want to see is at most a 25 minute walk away. Huge appreciation for the front desk attendant Jennifer as well! She is super sweet and welcoming and was a great first impression. read more

The staff, location, amenities across the board were phenomenal. Just was looking for a reasonably priced place in the neighborhood and didn't have much for expectations but this place really was amazing and I wouldn't hesitate for a second to stay here next time we're in town. read more

I'll start with the disappointing. San Francisco was the first leg of the second year installment of a mother-daughters staycation. Last year we stayed at the no frills, no breakfast offered Marina Motel a few blocks away. I knew it would be no frills because of their own website photography. But the stay was nice because I knew exactly what it was and it was made even better by the unexpected surprise of how much the local bird life enjoyed the hotel's lush landscaping. This year, we opted for a location several blocks away to enjoy falling out the door with closer access to Union Street and, most critically, something a little swankier as a special treat. The pictures on Hotel del Sol's website are absolutely not representative of what the rooms are really like. Take out every accessory you see and that is the room--no festive, thematic, colorful art, no wood blinds with the blue contrast fabric, no bright blanket at the foot of the bed, no accent pillows, no cute tchotchkes. I guess my mistake was not visiting the Yelp page to see what the rooms are really like. Some here have still gone on to describe this as a boutique hotel on account of its size, but a boutique hotel is not only small, it's distinctively designed and offers personalized service. Here, there is no housekeeping unless requested. The blinds that are in the room don't come close to blocking out the light generated by the exterior hallway lighting. The TV required explanation for functionality that could be have handled with an in-room notecard instead of a call to the front desk. Would have liked to see the amenities fee put to good use with a daily scoop out of leaves from the pool. I certainly don't mind a no frills experience when I know that is what to expect. To feel like you've been had by pictures promising a good show is something different. The good--they do provide complementary breakfast in the lobby starting at 7 AM. It's loads of pastry offerings, yogurt, instant oatmeal packets, bagels, toast, orange juice. Nice to have something included and an activity checked off the list before leaving the premises. There is 24 hr coffee, tea, and ice water in the lobby and all afternoons I passed through the hotel on the way to the next activity I partook in a hit of caffeine and big cup of cold water. The lobby, while small, is attractive with a well appointed display of items for purchase--snacks, meds, merch, etc. There is an AC unit we did utilize every afternoon to move the air. Location is close to shopping and restaurants on Chestnut and Union. read more

Several people were given the wrong rooms. Understaffed, poor service, a total mess. Close to some good locations, but such a headache to even be given a room. Find somewhere else if you can. read more

We spent 3 nights at Hotel Del Sol and overall it was a good experience! The check-in process was easy and the room was clean. The grounds weren't quite as nice as the photos had shown and there was construction tape near the pool area. Otherwise though, everything was up to standard. Hotel Del Sol's location was really the best part, with so many great coffee shops, bars, and restaurants within walking distance. The complimentary breakfast was also better than I had expected! Would stay here again. read more

Carl, such a good guy @ the front desk was so friendly, helpful and informative. Chill and inviting. Just what the world needs right now.

My family and I stayed for 5 nights. What I loved: family friendly environment, quiet, safe, great customer service, close proximity to everything or just a short walk to the nearest bus stop, the walk in closet kept traveling clutter out of view. My kids loved coming back from a day out to cookies and punch in the lobby. The grab and go complimentary breakfast is decent. What I didn't love but outweighed by the good: the size of the bathroom was difficult for 2 adults and 2 kids. Next time I will likely pay more for a bigger place. The pool although heated was not heated enough for the cold SF June weather. I recommend this hotel for a family traveling on a budget. It's a good value. read more

Several of our friends booked rooms here the other night to attend a 90th birthday party near by. It's not easy to find a decent place to stay in this part of town. We liked this alot. Nothing fancy but clean, helpful staff, great location for what we were going. Onsite parking is a plus. Would stay here again. I think I saw a previous post that there were no elevators but they do have one. My friend uses a walker so we requested a room close to the elevator - worked out just fine. It's also great that it is a block or so off of Lombard street - not noisey at all. Highly recommended. read more

This is the only place we stay when visiting SF! The front desk staff especially Oscar are incredibly welcoming and helpful through the stay. We had a fantastic weekend staying at Hotel Del Sol. Just a quick walk to Fort Mason and Marina Green, a lovely dog park on the way. Just two blocks from Chestnut restaurants. Check in was easy, we had a room facing the street and our pup loved looking and listening out the window. The bed was comfy, too. read more

I put up my brother here who staying a few days in SF but didn't have room. I checked out a room in advance and it looked nice. I asked about Lombard St noise and he assured me the rooms didn't face it directly. Turns out his did which was noisy. Mattress was older and soft which hurt his back although I asked in advance about firmness. Hotels need to list mattress firmness to avoid severe back issues. Otherwise his room was nice and clean. read more

My family of 4 spent 5 nights at Hotel Del Sol and it was perfect for what we needed. As other reviews have stated, the grounds are not as polished as they appear in the photos. The paint is wearing off in places and the pool could use repainted. Also, unfortunately, the large palm trees in the center have been removed. Other than some cosmetic defects, there are no negative sides to staying at Hotel Del Sol. The staff is incredibly kind, the rooms are clean, the pool is heated so that our kids could swim even on a cool spring day in San Francisco. We were always able to find parking inside and felt that our rental car was secure. We also felt that it was safe enough to have our kids running downstairs to grab a warm chocolate chip cookie or a cup of hot chocolate without us accompanying them! Walking distance to Lombard Street, the Marina District, Union Street, and Presidio Park, the location could not have been more perfect! read more

We did a last minute change of plans. The lady at the front desk was nice. They offer continental breakfast. The parking is a little snug but the car was safe. It is near several restaurants and bus stops. PLUS*** Pet friendly! The room we stayed in was clean. No stains of any sorts! Definitely will be coming back! read more

The vibe at Hotel del Sol is very friendly and the colorful decor is witty and cheerful. Everything is very clean. The neighborhood offers a variety of coffee shops, restaurants from pricey Union Street uphill a few less expensive options on side streets. Also the breakfast buffet in the lobby includes some excellent pastries and coffee and hot water are available 24/7. In five or more visits to Hotel del Sol the only negative thing I've experienced is dangerously slick white tile in the bathroom of every room I've stayed in including the so-called handicapped accessible room. A member of my family had a very bad fall while stepping from the shower to the floor with damp feet. I really think the hotel needs to address this problem by providing signage to warn people about the slick floor and also provide rubber matting. read more

Perfect location in Marina district. Limited secure parking and overflow lot outside. That is a motel with clean rooms and outdoor pool. They undergo remodeling of the outside area and have construction noises during the week. Take to the room breakfast is not bad. Total charge and fees outside room rate come to almost $60 per day between parking fees, resort fees and some other fees and taxes read more

Wonderful service, convenient location. We definitely plan on staying here again for our weekend trips to the city. The secure parking is a huge perk. Hotrible front office female!! This is the SECOND BAD EXPERIENCE from this same front office girl!! OMG! I paid online abd then she tells me I have to pay at the hotel. The amount for 1 night is reserved on my CC. So because I have had a couple emergencies i don't have enough credit for another night! Then she says if I pay part cash I have to give her $100 CASH DEPOSIT -- ironic huh?! She wasn't happy because I didn't want to spend $30 extra for their "upgraded" rooms. It's a dumpy ex-Best Western!! Why would I want to pay $150 a night to a sourpuss and a crappy property?!?? Last time I was there I had my 2 service dogs with me. She verbally said she doubted that one of my dogs was a service dog because he was "old"--he was the dog that saved my life!! What a wench she was, asking for $150 cash deposit because of my dogs that were certified service dogs!! I wish I knew where to report her because I definitely would. Do not stay here!! You won't regret it!! All this hassle because I was trying to avoid the Motel 6 across the street. Ugh!!! read more

The hotel is fun and family friendly. Our kids (5 and 8) loved hanging out in the hammocks after long days of sightseeing. There is breakfast in the lobby to bring back to the room each morning which was really nice. While the location is great, it is also in an area with many bars and nightlife. On Saturday, the people in room next to us had a party and blasted music around 2:30 in the morning. After it went on for a while I texted the front desk and within minutes we heard security knock on the door and break up the party. While annoyed we were woken up, I was totally impressed by the accessibility of the front desk at this hour and the swift response. The next night (Sunday) was quiet and we had a great experience. I'd highly recommend the hotel, but with fair warning that weekends may not be as quiet as you'd like. read more

We stayed overnight last Friday. I requested early check in and got there for 10. Room was not ready and manager explained it is not a guarantee for that time. I didn't have a fit...it was nice outside so I went roaming and she said she would text me when ready. I'm thinking ugh it will be a couple of hours...it was barely 45 min and I "think" not sure... that I got a bigger bed. Anyway all the staff I encountered were very pleasant. I went to them for a few things and they were quite helpful in getting me what I asked for. Room was clean and the grounds are colorful. Location is good for walking around to restaurants or the waterfront. The pool is apparently heated and I saw several guests use it... next time... I am also eyeing those hammocks for when I come back. My only challenge was setting up my phone to cast on the TV. I could have called but I figured it out. Not sure if there are other options vs. casting... that would be nice but frankly I didn't watch a ton of TV. Looking forward to our next visit. read more

Love this property! Oscar is always such a kind and gracious host. Favorite hotel in San Francisco, hands down. 11/10

I don't know how this motel qualifies for a 3 star? Just needed a couple nights. We arrived a little early, and then left. It's quite horrible. The walkways on the 2nd and third floor feel and look like they will collapse any minute. I thought this might be a cute kitschy motor lodge but it's scary and falling apart! read more

Cute, clean place. Very small property, less than a 50 room facility and pet friendly. However, you think you're getting a great deal by the price online, but they do not tell you about the parking OR amenities fees. What amenities? They have none! There is a small pool, but in January and during a major winter storm flooding, of course, it was closed. No gym, game room , laundry. Which is fine, but that would be what I consider amenities. Also, the continental breakfast was taken and all put away in their tiny office @ 10:07 am. C'mon, now people (7 min late) and was turned away. No lobby, literally a tiny office with 1 chair and a small desk.$25 for mini fridge, even though it was advertised, it was in the room. We had to pay and then have it placed in there. I travel for work several times a month and stay for 3 nights. Eating out gets too costly, so when you plan on saving and this is thrown at you, it is very disappointing. They need to be transparent, this is highway robbery! Have not received a call back and probably won't. I will be returning to speak with them next week when I return to the area, but now I will be staying elsewhere. Ended up being $600 in total for 3 nights. Go elsewhere people because at this price, you're paying top $$ prices for a 2-3 star MOTEL, not HOTEL. But like I said, it's cute, clean, and quiet....BUT too many hidden fees. read more
