This place was so freaking cute! The staff were super accommodating, and they were so friendly while we were checking in. They even granted us the early check-in we needed desperately so that we could make it to our event and have enough time to get ready! The decor is absolutely gorgeous and unique. There's a cute little library and seating area downstairs and the most awesome old elevator from the early 1900s! Our room was so cute and spacious! There is valet parking, which is really great considering parking can be terrible in the city, it's a little pricey, but definitely worth it! I can't wait to come back here! This is definitely one of those places that we will rebook again and again!

Love everything about this hotel. Have stayed here twice now and it's super charming. The rooms are spacious while the fireplace gives it a wonderful romantic feel. The Champaign and cocktail appetizers are a great way to end the afternoon. The staff is always super friendly and accommodating. The library lounge rooms downstairs are perfect retreats as is the outdoor patio on a sunny day

LOVE IT HERE I never stay anywhere without doing extensive research. I hate hotels and most of them are horrible places in my opinion. The absolute best part of this experience was the staff. Every single person was accommodating, comfortable, knowledgeable, and honestly just some of the nicest people I've ever met. The decor and attention to detail was absolutely lovely I am a big fan of a boutique hotel and this was wonderful. The room was very comfortable, bed was plush, everything was very clean, a REAL! fireplace was a very nice touch! Bathrooms had a comfortable tub and more than enough towels for two people. I really enjoyed the amenities they provide a complimentary wine and cheese hour in the evening and a breakfast in the morning. Both were simple but appreciated! The old elevator is a little scary but it works very well! They also had tea and coffee available all day. Parking is valet and a bit expensive but I noticed a lot of hotels in the area don't even offer that so I think it was worth paying for peace of mind (65$) They will bring you your car whenever you want it and take it back to the safe place when you are done.

WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN? first time in San Francisco and we spent the majority of our time in the room. the wallpaper is NEXT LEVEL only short of how comfy the bed was. My husband & I fit with room 2 spare! I even had my legs in an L shape. The bed was also the choice place 2 enjoy multiple meals. WoW the shower, EVEN THE FLOOR. We had plenty of room 2 do our morning Bhakti. Would stay again.

I hosted a 1920s themed murder mystery birthday party in their downstairs lounge area and it was a huge hit! White Swan's staff was so accommodating, responsive, respectful, and so so helpful! They provided us with silverware, plates, linens, and complimentary coffee and tea. I was so pleasantly surprised by the service! Half the guests want to book this event space in the future and I for sure will do so too! Easily one of the best birthdays I have ever been to!

Fantastic little hotel, with lots of personality, in a great location. We decided to book an overnight stay in order to attend a show nearby at The Masonic and it was the best decision. We really enjoyed the fireplace king suite with it's separate dressing/makeup table area... plus an actual coffee pot in the room (which most places removed after Covid) and complimentary soft drinks in the mini fridge. We stopped by the wine hour as well and met some very nice folks while we sipped a pleasant white wine (they also offered a red) and snacked on some mixed nuts and olives. There's a lovely sitting area downstairs, again with fireplaces ... and this is where they do their breakfast options in the morning as well. We're late sleepers so we didn't partake but I'm sure it's just as nice. Valet was easy and took good care of our car, though it was not inexpensive. $55 a night and $65 for oversized vehicles at the time of this writing. Check in and check out was also easy and everyone is very friendly. It's an old building so we occasionally heard our upstairs neighbors walking heavy but it wasn't very noticable. We would totally stay here again.

Quick Summary: - cozy, rustic, and well-kept interior and furniture - Super cool and working elevator - Complimentary breakfast (7-10am) - Complimentary tea and coffee all day - Checkout before 12pm - Plush and warm bed - Located halfway up the steep Powell hills - Check in entrance is by the doorbell, but after checking in the card key beside the doorbell works It was a really great experience staying here. We booked three days and two nights, so we tried the delicious complimentary breakfast. This hotel is located on the steepest hills in San Francisco, so it could feel like a workout to return here at the end of the day. I loved the elevator, and took it whenever I got the chance to. The loudest parts were the two doors, but the trip up and down was smooth and silent. It does jolt you around when it starts moving and does it once more, when it reaches the destination. Again, I loved it! So cool to have experienced this working elevator with a faint smell of DW-40 and watching the chute and a glance of the other floors. My relatives, on the other hand, preferred the stairs right beside it and only took the elevator if I was with them. Our room was the fourth floor and down the hall. I have read a review, that some were woken up in the middle of the night when guests returned to their rooms, but I haven't experienced this. It could have been because our room was far from the staircase. The staircase did creak on every step, so if there were more guests who took the stairs more than the elevator, then it might have been noisy at night. We didn't even hear any footsteps above us either. The room was quaint and well-kept. We had the room with the bathroom, a mini kitchen like coffee space, another vanity with a walk-in closet. I felt history of the room in two ways: not enough outlets. I had to swap out some lamp fixtures and coffee machines to charge my watch and devices, and then trade these with my relative, once they were done. The other was the bathroom door. The knob was loose, so not knowing this I had a struggle when the door closed on me. It was a short scare, but after that we avoided the scare by not closing the door all the way. The bed was plush, very soft and morphs your body. I felt myself sinking into the mattress; that's how soft it was. The only drawback is that my body temperature is on the warm side, so at night this comfy bed was stifling with heat. The second night was better because the remedy was to remove a blanket layer. Still, I found myself waking up in the middle of the night with no blankets covered on me, and that was still warm. The complimentary breakfast was the best experience there. It was available all day from 7am to 10am. It was located on the lower floor -- since this hotel is on a slope, the hotel entrance is actually the 2nd floor, so the breakfast area is on the first...I think. The interior was so cute and so cozy! I always wanted to experience the Victorian feel, and the breakfast area was so good! (Took so many photos) The breakfast menu slightly changes by the day, but the general list was that there was always coffee, tea, bread for toast, jam, butter, and a boiled egg. Pastries were different each day. There are tables and chairs closest to the breakfast, near the outside deck, down the lower deck (this area were mostly couches and lounge sofas), and past this room was another wider room of more tables and chairs. Eating breakfast here was like a quaint time-skip. This was my favorite experience staying there. If one is looking for an extravagant stay, others can try for Fairmont or Palace Hotel, but this hotel let me step away from the current time and enjoy the slow life.

I am a fairly risk averse person and especially so when it comes to lodging. I generally prefer to pay a bit more to be on the safe side, but when it comes to San Francisco, paying a bit more can really break the bank. Was in town for a conference recently and the conference hotel rate was $250+tax, which was a bargain for SF but not really a bargain. I was happy to find (on Booking.com) the White Swan Inn for $220+tax which included a free breakfast (saving $30/day for the two of us). The room was very spacious and although there was no air conditioning, we were able to open 3 windows, and when it got cool use the gas fireplace. The best was very comfortable. We were on the top floor so either took the stairs or the old-timey elevator (where you have to slide the doors closed by hand). No one wants to spend all their time in SF in their hotel room. What you need is a launching pad. The location is good, in what I would call lower Nob Hill. You are up one steep slope from Sutter and down two VERY steep slopes from the top of Nob Hill. A short walk from the Top of the Mark, Liholiho Yacht Club, Union Square, and Chinatown. The breakfast in the mornings was good -- eggs, meat, fruit, pastries, oatmeal, bread, coffee, juice. I did not leave feeling wanting. There were cookies out every afternoon and (although we did not go) wine in the evenings. In the room you get complimentary water and soda. But the best part of the White Swan Inn is the people. You're greeted and made to feel valued and taken care of by every employee you encounter. My wife was on a first name basis with some after our short stay.

I found White Swan Inn after googling for high-rated hotels near union square. I was booking a surprise birthday trip for my partner, and I wanted to make sure we were close enough to the Orpheum Theater and a few dinner spots we had reservations at. This hotel is so charming, and we loved everything about it. Great location and walking distance from Powell Station Bart, Union Square, The Orpheum, etc. The decor is so much fun and really does feel like an English getaway in the heart of San Francisco. There's a super cool old elevator, fun decor throughout the building, complimentary breakfast and wine/cheese in the evenings. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. They helped us with everything we needed! The room was spacious and enjoyable to spend time in. Love the fireplace! Our room faced the courtyard and we had no issues with noise. I love that the mini fridge is stocked with complimentary waters and sodas! I will definitely stay her again and recommend it to others. We had a great time and now have wonderful memories!

This place is amazing! From the vintage elevator to the decor and lounge area and the amazing outside patio area for relaxing! The NIGHTLY cocktail and app hour is very nice. Serving white/red wine and several snack options. We enjoyed sitting on the patio or even in the Library looking lounge by the fire. Coffee/tea available 24 hours is also a major plus in my book along with the excellent Buffet breakfast. Staff was friendly and the rooms large and clean When in San Fran I won't be staying anywhere else from now on!

If I could give them ten stars I would. Great location. We stayed in room #53 and it was spacious and tastefully decorated. The service is attentive and the elevator a charming antique. The continental breakfast was fresh and there were indoor and out venues from which to choose. We were busy and looked forward to returning to the inn at the end of a long day. We shall return.

The check-in process was smooth. The front desk was very helpful in getting us in and filling out a card authorization form. We were surprised by the valet price however - $90 is definitely high. There is no self parking but the prices for the lots nearby are just as high, if not higher for overnight. We really enjoyed our room. It is definitely not the most spacious but felt quite luxurious. We booked a double queen room and were placed in Rm 920. There was limited walking space around the ends of the beds and desk. There was a beautiful view of the courtyard and city. I love that the room was very well-lit. There is ambient lighting and brighter lights you can turn on next to the beds. My friends and I loved the window that separated the bathroom from the sleeping space. It was quite comical and made getting ready for a night out very fun. There blinds for both the bathroom window and outside window were motorized which was a nice touch. The beds were pretty comfortable but nothing too special - I appreciate them having a bunch of pillows. The mini fridge and coffee bar felt pretty luxe and were much fancier than those are other hotels I've stayed at. There were plenty of outlets throughout the room and next to the beds. The whole vibe of the hotel feels very sleek and modern. The hallways are lit with a ambient blue. The inside of the elevators are themed which is super cute for pics. The gym is very nice too, loaded with more than your typical treadmill and elliptical. The lobby felt clean and had little robot things scooting around that apparently are used for room service. I would definitely stay here again so I can explore what I didn't get to see on my short stay!

Not once have I ever had to ask for anything to be sent up to my room. It's all already taken care of. And let's talk about the breakfast setup! Because this is one of the best hotel breakfast I've ever had in my life. There's a hot bar with bacon, sausage and potatoes and eggs and it rotates daily. There's a yogurt bar with fresh fruit and even hard boiled eggs, there's always oatmeal with toppings. There's a center island filled with all of the carbs you can think of even tortillas. The bananas are always just ripe and that's rare. And there are two coffee stations one by the breakfast area and one by the front entry. I love the coffee! I really like the walkability of this hotel too! It's only a block from my office and very close to Oracle stadium as well as being close to the embarcadero walkway. I cannot say enough great things about this hotel and the crew. I love staying here and will always highly recommend this location. Tell them that I sent you! However, from the very beginning to end ranged from confusion, annoyance, to plain nightmare. The check in process was confusing and and cumbersome. I was given no check in information, and there was no front desk. The intercom at the front door did not even work, and I had to call their actual "front desk" who apparently said they did not have my information on file and made me go through these annoying steps just to find my hotel room key in a lock box. The most frustrating and nightmarish experience came the next day when I lost the hotel room key (a physical key). I called the "front desk" several times but received no answer then finally got one after about 10 minutes. When I told the man at the "front desk," he told that he would have to speak to the housekeeper. After waiting for another 10 minutes, he informed me that I would be getting fined $200 for the lost room key, which is plain ridiculous, since they didn't have a replacement key (other than the housekeeper's key). I understand a $25 or $50 fee for a lost key but $200 for a freaking key???! After waiting for about 40 minutes total, he finally walked over with my replacement key and begged me not to lose it since that would mean the housekeeper can't even get in (how laughable). What's worse was that the other guests were able to use their phone or a passcode to get in since all the room had e-locks. When I asked the man at the "front desk" why I needed a physical key, he said that not all of the e-locks were working--including the one for my room. What a load BS. A horribly dingy hotel that can't even get its most basic sh*t together. Stay at this incompetently run hotel at your own risk or better yet find much better options.

Amazing Service. Good Value. Butler Service…read more I came to the Bay Area for a relative's 80th birthday and booked The St. Regis because it was the only Forbes Five-Star rated hotel in San Francisco. I'm usually hesitant to stay at American hotel chains' "luxury products" because they often just feel like Marriotts with nicer tile (most new Ritz-Carltons, for example). I found the St. Regis to actually offer the kind of luxury service that is often missing in American hotels. I arrived fairly early, around 11:00 a.m., and the staff were incredibly friendly, accommodating both an early check-in and late check-out, along with a room upgrade. Prior to this stay, I didn't really understand the purpose of butler service, but they were kind enough to gift-wrap the presents for the birthday party I was attending while I booked a massage and walked around the city. The spa at the St. Regis is fairly large, with an indoor heated pool (well designed), a gender-separated steam room (out of order during my visit), and a sauna. I will say the spa could use an expansion or renovation. The "relaxation room" felt a bit like a repurposed salt room, and the men's lounge basically just had tea and snacks. The massage itself was great, and everyone there was extremely friendly. What really impressed me was the service. I casually asked whether they had bath salts available for use in my room, and within 30 minutes of leaving the spa, bath salts, bubble bath, and bottled water were delivered to my room without my needing to make a special request. Great attention to detail. I walked through the gym and it seemed large enough for a full circuit workout, with plenty of equipment. I do wish the hotel had more dedicated lobby or guest lounge areas. The check-in area, bar, and restaurant all seemed to blend together into one shared space, which felt fairly busy in the evening when non-guests came in for happy hour. The bar was nice but honestly expensive and not especially memorable. I was a bit surprised by some of the clientele (there were what I assumed to be a couple "working ladies" at the bar who I wonder if their services were less than the cost of breakfast in hindsight), though very friendly occasionally felt slightly out of sync with the otherwise polished atmosphere of the hotel. I didn't try the restaurant for dinner. The hotel does offer a complimentary car service around the local area, though unfortunately it was booked when I needed it. Breakfast was expensive, easily over $100 per person for a fairly normal order, but it was very tasty. The Eggs Benedict were perfectly cooked and included truffle, which was fantastic. The room was clean and comfortable. I do think it could have used a deeper scrub, though I admit my standards may be skewed by an exceptional housekeeper at home. There was also a slight musty odor. It was not on the level of a room at an average Belmond property or the former Mandarin Oriental Miami, but it was spacious and perfectly comfortable for one person. I'm not entirely sure whether St. Regis considers itself directly competitive with those brands. In summary, the service is what makes this hotel worthy of five stars. They seem genuinely happy to accommodate nearly anything you might need or even casually mention wanting. Personally, I find San Francisco itself dirty, stressful, expensive, and rough around the edges, so having a hotel that felt calm, polished, and attentive made a huge difference in my trip.

Breakfast: Two farm egg any style. Fine but small portions for $32. Would not order again. Chilaquiles. Also fine but basic for $35. Would not order again. Sourdough muffin sandwich: If you want best value for price ($26), get this. It's seriously huge and filling. California croissant: This one is like an elevated avocado toast. It's really good. Price is $31. The mixed berry antioxidant smoothie is also meh. I can make a better smoothie at home. As part of The Edit they also give you $100 credit to use on food and drinks only at the hotel. It was SF restaurant week so we ordered the $90 3 course meal for dinner at the hotel restaurant Astra. We ordered the duck cannoli (ok tasting but the duck is cold), braised short rib (very good! Love the polenta) and the brussel sprouts (menu said it was gremoleta/garlic/parmesan flavor but it ended up being gochujang flavor and it was overly sauced). Was not a huge fan. The hotel is dog friendly. They give you a bed and bowl and treats. The pet fee is steep at $200 per stay. There is the Yerba Buena gardens across the street (5 minute walk) to take your dog out. The park is clean with lots of grass. This was one of the deciding factors of us picking this hotel because it's hard to find grass area in the city. They allowed me late check out at 5pm which is awesome!! Also, they have a chi hair dryer which is very powerful. Location in Financial District is very central to a lot of eateries and next door to Soma.

Not sure who the GM is, but they need to take a bow for creating and maintaining a culture of pride and excellence. The staff is happy to be here and it shows in every small detail. The staff made an ordinary stay an extraordinary guest experience. If you are trying to determine where to stay in SFO, look no further!

The hotel used to be quite a few other properties, so while they may have decorated it, it's not the luxurious experience we've had at other hotels. The views are to die for, we had a room that spanned windows from Golden Gate to Bay Bridge, it was amazing being on the 45th floor and seeing the night sky and morning sunrise. The property doesn't really have a real lobby, spa, and the restaurant is average, as in the quality of the food was just not top notch, and they have access to the best ingredients. They only have two elevators and are quite slow, at a busy time this can be quite annoying. The room itself was small, no real furniture, would have been nice to have a sofa and table with two chairs. There was no dresser. The bathroom was great for one, but small for two. The shower didn't have a bench, no his or her's sinks. The bed when we got into it was super soft and not supportive, when we called they did something really odd and put a board on the mattress and then a topper. I guess they have a guest that asks for this. Why didn't the service people know they have a firm version of the mattress topper they could have switched for us. We didn't have the best sleep. Again, usually the Four Seasons beds are amazing. While this property doesn't charge regular Four Seasons prices, it also doesn't deliver the experience and it would be a shame if the brand started doing this.
