I showed up for the acrobatic show, where it says they get you a deal on $90 tickets for only $20 and then you hage to buy 2 items (so you pay like $40 or $50 total, but I found out you can just buy $20 tickets to the show and not be forced to buy other food items. Just felt kind of scammed. Otherwise, I had a great time, loved that storing luggage was free on checkout day, and I made some great friends!

There's a hostel there as well. Walking through the small museum to the back, you may see seals swimming around looking for food. On a stormy day, the waves are extra large splashing against the rocks. An absolutely beautiful scenery. There's a small free parking lot, and if it's full, you can park on the side of the road.

I spent $ 500+ at HI SF Fisherman's Wharf & feel my time was wasted…read more Some staff were good, others seem to be on a power trip. Housekeeping staff blare their cell-phones w/out head-phones - so you can't hear your own device. It also awakens International travelers who sleep any hours. Plus, in common areas, staff blare music, shout, whistle, sing, and monopolize stove tops, free food, fridge space, lockers and cubbies. I emailed HI management, reported concerns & requested the HI ADA/California Disability accommodations policy/process so that I could make a formal ADA accommodations request. i said I have Autism Spectrum (ASD) Sensory needs to avoid loud noises. This is protected by ADA and CA State Disability law - CA State law enforce it w/a $25,000.00 penalty. HI never send the ADA/CA Disability policy/process I requested - and staff conduct got retaliatory. It undermined my health and productivity and wasted my time here in San Francisco - that I paid $500+ for. Many workers (such as R and J.) retaliate. When they see me, they make even louder noises (whistle, bang objects, burst into song, and/or play cellphone-music w/out headphones). One helpful worker - while I was awaiting the ADA/CA disability process information - offered me use of ADA kitchen, which has a sign "ADA Kitchen - Reserved for Guests w/Disabilities." I tried the ADA Kitchen. Housekeeping staff (A & R) lounge in ADA kitchen and play loud cell-phone music w/out headphones (Despite several complaints for several days). I reported this to onsite manager H - who appeared to be on a power trip. I tried to reason w/staff and remind them they have obligations per ADA and California Disability law: they mocked and ridiculed me, laughed in my face, berated me, made sarcastic remarks w/eye rolls, and got very hostile and scary. The staff also make false accusations and try to play victim. One worker (A.) angrily told me.... "I don't have any obligations when I'm on my break" (as she took her break in ADA kitchen, blasting her cell-phone w/out headphones). Each day that I tried to address ADA/CA Disability Accommodations the HI staff got worse. I heard staff arguing w/other Guests about disability needs, too.

A few small complaints - the bathroom sink required holding the lever down (annoying - had to turn on the shower to wash my face), and no USB port or power outlet near each bed like some other hostels, although they do have a power outlet in the room, and wifi. While you're in the area, check out Fitzgerald Marine Reserve during low tide to see the sea critters, and walk the Devil's Slide Trail. If you're new to hostels, google "tips for staying in a hostel". It's not a hotel.

Huffing and puffing yelling at us that this is a private property. I (VERY NICELY) told her that we were under the impression that there was an easement to the beach (which is true), she then goes to say that we didn't sign the digital waiver at the door, ok fair enough, I immediately tell her that we will go right away back up to the gate and sign the waiver. She then proceeds to yell at us about how we are not allowed to do professional photoshoots, okay lady I get that maybe I do look like a model (especially compared to her) but some friends with a camera isn't a professional photoshoot. I once again, nicely explain to her that I just proposed and we're just trying to get a few pics of the location and we will go sign the waiver right away. She proceeds once again to repeat herself about the waivers which I don't understand because I already said we would go sign it right away and her talking is actually what is preventing from us from going to sign the waivers. She then ironically says "it's unfortunate that this is what you will remember from your engagement day" like what?! LADY if you know you're ruining our day why are you doing this? but fear not it did not ruin our day because I will not let some old hag ruin my day so I once again tell her we will go sign the waivers, she then has the balls to tell me that "this is a non-profit, there is a donation box at the door" ok PAUSE I would be MORE than happy to donate $50, even $100 to your location but not after the way you just treated us. We end up walking back up to the gate to sign the waivers and run into another couple making their way down the hill. I jokingly told them to make sure they signed the waiver or they would get yelled at to which they told me they didn't and proceeded down the hill. We ended up running into them at the parking lot again and they told us that they lady gave them no trouble even though they didn't sign the waiver. I jokingly said to them it's probably because of race (we are asian, they were Caucasian) to which they replied that they really may have been the case because they had no trouble at all. It's unfortunate such a beautiful location is run by such an old grumpy lady. I 100% own it that we should have signed the waiver upon entry but if rules exist they should apply to everyone regardless or age/race/gender/etc.. and on top of that once I already told her we would go sign the waivers she could have easily sent us about our way but I can't imagine why she felt the need to continuously lecture and yell at us.

The staff was super kind and helpful at check in. They have parking available (first come first serve) which is such a lifesaver in this part of town! The inside of the hostel is very clean and spacious. They have different rooms available including a kitchen and game room. Everyone we ran into was very kind. Our room was on the smaller side but perfect for two people! The bathrooms are shared but all guests were respectful of the shared spaces and they were very tidy. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and look forward to coming back!

It was clean and the bed was comfy. I was fortunate in that the temperature that night was 57 degrees and 88 degrees during the day. I was told that in previous days, the temperature during the day reached 107! The room did have a little fan. The shared bathroom and showers were clean. I met a few foreign visitors in the kitchen. One young female was working on her computer in one of the common rooms. Other than seeing 2-3 other guests, I pretty much had the whole place to myself. It was really neat wandering around to look at all the stuff in the place. At 10 pm., everything gets quiet. Even the music from the nearby festival went quiet. I walked about 8 minutes to a Thai restaurant, called Hiso, which had great food. There are homeless people in the vicinity. I felt safe as the walk took me past some really expensive homes. Lots of people were out walking their dogs. Just be aware of your surroundings. I decided to walk across the street from a spot where some homeless person had set up a tent. I also watched out for people on scooters and bicycles. Parking is available within a gated enclosure by the alley and next to the hostel. That greatly gave me some peace of mind. The young man at the front desk was helpful and professional. Two items of note: 1) you need to remove the bedsheets and pillow cases and deposit them into the baskets by the front desk. Not a big deal to do. 2) you do need to climb stairs to the 2nd and 3rd floors. Not a hassle unless you are older and/or have mobility issues. Or if you have heavy luggage to haul up. Overall, it was a good experience. I would definitely come stay here again. I'm glad I tried this hostel out. Oh, when I read up on the building, I found out that it was a funeral home at one time. I didn't get any creepy vibes. I zonked out and had a good night's rest.
