I had no reason to second guess SF Wheels services when my front tire got stolen at Safeway in DiFi. I use my ebike for my mobile business. I had to have a tow for services due to a tire theft. This was a big deal that SF Wheels basically kept putting a mountain bike tire replacement after I had told them I ordered the original tire from Velotric. The mountain bike tire wasn't designed for city street riding that could slip in rain on painted crosswalks, etc. I already had a broken shoulder from slipping on wet roads in 2014. The owner insisted to install the mountain bike wrong tire again I didn't want being entrapped without a choice. What I've revealed above was my second experience outcome. The first time they put used parts from unknown e-bikes with a used tire and rusty spokes without informing me of these details. I thought SFW was offering original parts on the phone with them. They charged $125 labor only so I provided a $40 tip. I took my bike home not knowing the real situation! When I later saw they used rusted spokes with a used tire, I contacted Velotric and ordered a new tire, tube, frame and rotor. I then let SFW I replace their old used parts with new ones with a new tire to install. This started in late February 2026 and in March 17th I still don't have the ebike done of the simple tire change request. Instead they caused these problems forcing things on me, giving me rusty spokes, never calling with questions like "are you okay with used parts from other bikes and an old rusty spoke used tire as well?" It's likely some type of misogyny crap over a woman forcing a tire on me I was too wary of for my safety. read more

Excellent customer service and Mike the owner was very knowledgeable and honest. He gave no pressure into selling me the bike which he knew I wanted very much. I was not aware or prepared for the bike i wanted that it was extremely oversized and somehow we had to figure out a way to stuff it in my camry sedan lol. I ended up purchasing the bike and we decided to give it a shot to remove the wheels and hope that it will fir. As we were removing the wheels he was making sure im learning how to remove and re-install the wheels once I set it up at home. He was very thorough in explanation making sure I remember all the step's and the do's and donts. The bike actually blew my expectations once I got it assembled and I was able to ride it around. Recently purchased an eBike from Mike. He sure lies through this teeth to sell a bike. I've had issues with the bike and every time I call, he's nowhere to be found. Email communications falls on deaf ears too! I have to say that the other two guys there were very helpful. Please do not buy the Besv CF1 as it is a piece of shit. Folks, if you enjoy riding an eBike, please don't get the CF1. The battery dies after 1.5 hours; which is approximately, 19 miles. You won't get enjoyment riding this shitty bike. I made two visits to this shop. Once to drop off my bike. Once to pick it up. I will never return. COVID WARNING The owner of this shop, Mike, was not wearing a mask over his mouth or nose during either of my two visits. He did have a mask, however, it was hanging from one ear off his face. Neither he nor his staff appear to respect a six-foot distance. I actually saw him pat one customer on the back. If you have any concerns about COVID, I would strongly recommend staying away. POOR COMMUNICATION I stopped by this shop for a tune-up on my bike. At the time I dropped it off, they looked over the bike and I was reassured they would "take care of everything". In contrast to this, I received a call shortly thereafter stating that some tune-up items were not included in the tune-up. I have literally had dozens of tune-ups performed at various shops, so I was pretty surprised by this. They stated they would need more money. For example, the minor lateral truing of the rear wheel had an extra charge of $100. During the call, they said it would be quick to true since it "wasn't that bad" and that they would do it for $75. I tried to share with the owner on the phone, Mike, that his competitors down the street include basic lateral truing in their tune-up and that I assumed it would be included there as well. He kept interrupting me on the phone and wouldn't listen. He said everyone charges extra for certain tuning items and his tune-up is a "quick & basic" tune-up. I pointed him to his competitor's website (there at Irving and 15th Ave) which said truing was included in a tune-up. They also had an a la carte menu that showed it was only $15-$25 if performed outside of tune-up. This was in drastic contrast to his $75 quote. The call had the feel of "I am fishing for more money". I told him I'll just pick up the bike and bring it to his competitor. POOR QUALITY * My bike was returned from the tune-up without the rear brakes working!!! I rode off with a bike that didn't have rear brakes. They had forgotten to reconnect them. Also, there was oil literally dripping off the chain (see uploaded photos). This is messy - its now all over the frame and rear rim. But its also a maintenance nightmare because it collects dirt. * The front brakes were squeaking like a banshie when I rode off from the tune-up. They failed to tune the front brakes. * The derailer had not been tuned-up during the tune-up. The gears were skipping when I rode off. STRANGE SHOP This shop is weird! Its small and the bikes are so packed in that its impossible to peruse the inventory. Mike uses it as a combined cell phone repair and bike repair shop (see photos). Lastly, it has an ATM. PAYMENT 3% surcharge for credit card and no checks accepted. Bring lots of cash. COST SF Wheels is very pricey. They charge about 10-15% higher for a basic tune-up than other bike shops nearby. I understand they need to pay the inevitably expensive Cole Valley rent, but the cost makes them more expensive. I mistakenly thought this extra expense meant higher quality. My mistake. RUDE OWNER Mike is just an unpleasant person. At every turn he seeks to upsell you, and doesn't have the ability to listen to the customer. And he's just unpleasant to work with. RESULT I rode away from my tune-up at SF Wheels straight to another shop at 15th and Irving. At the other shop they immediately through my bike up on the rack, began spinning the wheels and testing the brakes, then said, "it looks like your bike needs a tune-up." YES, right after I left a tune-up at SF Wheels! Unbelievable. They did the (second) tune-up on the spot. They did the rear wheel truing at no extra charge because they include it in the tune-up. My visit to SF Wheels was a costly waste of time. read more

Do not rent bikes from SF Wheels. They will cheat you out of your deposit. We rented e bikes from SF Wheels on July 25th, 2020. They did an ATM draft of $1500 as a deposit and said it would be voided if we returned the bikes in the same condition. We returned the bikes and Mike the owner said the deposit had been voided. I didn't see it post in my account so I took him at his word. I should have had him write void on the ATM Draft and got a copy. On August 19th they hammered the deposit and it came out of my account. I called Mike and asked him about it. He said he would call his bank about it. He claims to have called his bank and they had no record of it. I told him I would file a dispute. My bank called him and he said the charge was indisputable and now he is unavailable for a comment. If you have had a similar experience please contact me. read more

This review should really be 15 stars, as I've had 3 fantastic experiences with SF Wheels this year. 1. After visiting 5 other e-bike stores in the city where I saw the same models over and over, I came to SF Wheels and was pleased to see some different options. Michael was quick to identify a model that fit my exact needs at a better price point. 2. Michael was quick to diagnose a minor production defect on my e-bike and fixed it for me for free during my visit. I've not had any more problems with the bike. 3. Michael played a key role in the recovery of my bike back after it was stolen and recovered by SFPD. SFPD said it's very rare for the dealer to have accurate records and exert the effort required to make this happen. I STRONGLY recommend SF Wheels if you're looking for an e-bike in SF! read more

So, I've rented from local bike rentals before. The tire pops, you get it fixed at the nearest bike shop and bring the receipt for reimbursement. Not here. I was shocked. How do they expect to compete with the competition? The bikes were not even comfortable, nor fun to ride. I'm sorry, but for 50$ for en electronic bike, I expected way more. Rented an ebike for a day. Very mixed feeling on this place. Not likely to return, but it's worth trying at least once. If you want a cheap and quick ebike rental, this is definitely your place. Pros: - Super cheap rentals. $35/day is just fantastic. - Pretty quick service with little hassle. - The rental bikes are fun, despite their shortcomings. Cons: - Bikes are cheap. Their rental fleet is entirely an early version of GenZe electric bikes. These bikes actually have a ton of power (and good battery life), but other components are lacking. The power on these bikes in particular surges significantly. - Website is very confusing. It makes it appear that they have a more varied rental fleet than is actually true. - No rental reservations. This likely won't be a problem (they have a lot of bikes), but it doesn't help for ease-of-mind concerns. - Shop is very cramped. read more

In other words, I'm the ultimate scooter n00b Mike took his time to walk me through how to pick a scooter, and even let me test it out on the sidewalk outside the shop. These guys came to my rescue after I waited 7 months for my Lithium Cycles Super73 S1 electric bike to arrive, and it required professional assembly. I must have phoned around 20 different shops in SF prior to reaching SF Wheels. Half wouldn't touch an e-bike assembly, and most of the ones that did either wanted to keep the bike for 3-7 business days and or charge $200+. That's why I was astounded when I called SF Wheels and they told me not only would they do it within a couple hours for me, but for $100. On top of that, they had built a couple Lithium Cycles before and were familiar with the process. As promised, the bike was ready within a couple hours after dropping it off. The best part was settling up and hopping on my newly assembled Super73 and flying away back to my place. Extremely easy, super nice guys, and I can't recommend them enough for any of your bike needs - especially e-bike assembly. read more

My Mercane WW had a crack on the neck caused by impact and bad design. SF Wheels helped me to replace it in a reasonable cost. If you are a WW owner, you probably have heard or experienced the difficulty of replacing the neck. The website says they are able to repair nearly all e-bikes on the market, so I took my "Volton" e-bike there as it would not turn on despite having charge in the battery. Henry C checked a number of things including controller, motor, battery, and some connections but was not able to check the LCD display as they didn't have the right part. So unfortunately, this was one e-bike they were not able to fix. The upside is that he didn't charge me anything, despite my offering to pay for some labor time, which I thought was more than fair. He also gave me a written summary of things tested so I can contact the manufacturer to try and find a bike shop that has the part. I also had very brief look at some new e-bikes and the good news is that it looks like you get more for your money now than a few years ago when I bought it, so that's a plus.... Note to self: swing by sometime and throw some $ in the tip jar. read more

After my bad experience with SF wheel, I decided to see if others had a similar experience on Yelp. It turns out the review by John S. below is right on the dot. I had the same experience with the owner, in particular, he was unpleasant, unwilling to listen, and in the business of up selling. My brake was rubbing the rotor so I stopped by to see if it could be fixed. Instead of truing the rotor, the worker did an upsell and said the rotor should be replaced. At the time, I said as long as the problem can be fixed, go for it. This turned out to be a huge mistake and I started to have one problem after another. First, the new rotor started squeaking. I brought it back to the shop and asked for my old rotor back but the owner said it was gone. Then, instead of replacing it with a better quality rotor, the owner said the problem was with the brake pad so he took out my brake pad and put a new one in. I didn't think it was a good idea but he insisted it needed a new brake pad. As I rode home, I realized I had a new problem of less stopping power, due to inferior pads. I called the shop right away and asked them to keep my original brake pad and they agreed. But when I went back the next day, the owner claimed it was already thrown away. I think he is claiming that to prevent me from asking the parts refund. The bottom line is that I paid $89.38 to fix a minor problem and ended up with 2 new problems. read more
