My 6 year old son did about 30 lessons at Blake Swim School, twice a week for 15 weeks…read more Pros: - Heated pool - Parking in parking lot - Nice and knowledgable coaches - Decently clean facilities (as much as a it could be all considering) - App to track your classes that sends you notifications - 30 min classes (as opposed to Waterworks's 20 mins) Cons: - It gets crowded sometimes where there are 3 kids with 3 coaches in one lane - They sometimes need to change the time of your class if they get overbooked, but they ask you the day before and won't charge you for the cancelled class if you can't make the change. - Lots of different coaches, so my son didn't consistently get the same coach working with him but had about 8 different coaches during the 30 lessons. You can pay to have the same coach every time, but it's $10 more per lesson. Overall, I really liked Blake Swim School, and I definitely preferred it to Waterworks which we tried for a few months in Arcadia. The only things I would say is that at Blake, they really try to teach the kids how to swim properly as opposed to just water survival skills. So if you're just looking for someone to teach how to survive falling into a pool, this might not be the place. But if you want your kids to learn how to properly swim strokes, this is a great option!

The truth is that I have had a passion for nursing since junior college. Although Nursing is an intimidating career, I could not ignore the feeling that it was calling me. I entered the program one month after it had already started, which made the beginning very challenging. I barely slept at first, but once I adjusted to the pace, it became manageable. If you stay focused and put in the time & work, you will graduate. You must study, read the required material, and follow your instructors' guidance. At the time, our exam preparation for the NCLEX was through ATI. I graduated from the 21-month LVN program in July 2021. I was a COVID-era student, and although hospital clinicals were limited, we still attended clinicals when allowed. I completed several days at a local community hospital in Norwalk. Since graduating, I passed the NCLEX on the 1st try and have done well with my LVN license. I worked in a hospital for about 8 months but realized it was not the best fit for me because I wanted to help my patients more quickly without waiting for RN's to push IV meds. I now work at different rehabilitation healthcare centers (nursing homes) and sub Acute, which I enjoy. Overall, this school helped me take my first steps as an LVN, and I plan to pursue my RN in the future. I recommend this school to anyone willing to stay disciplined, prioritize studying, read their books, watch learning videos, and support their cohort. If you truly commit, you can succeed. IVA was my school of choice for my son, because LB Unified refused to let my son attend his home school when we moved to another part of Long Beach. LBUSD also made the school selection and enrollment process so much more difficult that I decided to pull my child out altogether. Save the drama for your mama. In comparison, IVA had an easy enrollment and application process. I was able to contact someone from the school every time I had a question or concern. The student-teacher ratio is something LBUSD has historically fallen short on, and with IVA teachers knew my son by name. The learning environment became a small community built on pillars of intellectual virtues. As a parent, I appreciated the one-on-one communication from my child's instructors. I also enjoyed the social gatherings of parents, students and instructors, when I did have time to participate. Really, it's a private school feel without the price tag. My son was afforded opportunities he would have never had experienced in LBUSD as far as athletics and extracurricular activities such as weight lifting club, photography, and yearbook committee. Ecologics has a family-style vibe with a few other staff members. They have a relaxed environment with a pretty happy attitude. I don't think I could even imagine anyone getting upset in the office. The class sizes were about five people on average. This was nice since you get more attention versus larger size class. They have two instructors teaching these classes. They usually mix it up to switch up with teaching style and scheduling. I enjoyed the two courses I took with them, and so I returned to take the CAC prep exam. I worked with their instructors over three days and had a 1 on 1 session with them for several hours. One of them even stayed over extra hours just to make sure I understood the material. As a result, I passed my CAC exam on my first try. It's pretty easy to say that I couldn't do it without them. I highly recommend this school to others. The only tip I would add is at times to the instructor might get off topic, just remind them here and there and you should be good.
