I thought Sewer Rat Plumbing only handled sewers, but they do everything residential. Fast response time, knowledgeable, and trustworthy. Even when it's not sewer-related, they show up and get it done right. read more

We used Sewer Rat a couple of times in the past. Should have checked recent reviews. I just had new grout put in a shower so was sparkling clean. It was draining, but slowly. Appt. was arranged in timely manner & tech arrived within window. He didn't give his name. After 40 min. he informed me it was now totally plugged, probably from rust. He gave me with no suggestions on how to fix the problem. What upset me was the horrible mess --- closed to two inches of rusty, brown water in the bottom of the shower. When I questioned him, his response was "it wasn't working before". I talked to Debbie in the office & her response was the same. When I asked if I had to be the one to clean up the mess, she answered " I can have the supervisor call you next week." Cross them off your list. Never again. read more

After repeated water backups, Sewer Rat did a video inspection and showed me where roots were filling up the clay pipes. We hired Sewer Rat to install a new pipe through the old one. No trenches. Work was completed in one day. We are very pleased. read more

Awesome service always. This is the best plumber in the Bay Area. We called on Monday morning because our kitchen sink was clogged. By 3:30 pm our sink was unclogged! read more

Showed up on time. Gave friendly and good advice on problem with water heater. Would definitely call again. read more

They are a little more expensive, but on the plus side if it's an emergency they our out super fast and correct the problem very quickly. Donie came out today, and he's a really super, professional and personable guy. Highly recommended if you're in a crunch like we were. The dispatch/scheduler was terrific and easy to work with. read more

My friend had her sewer line renewed with Sewer Rats, and recommended me for it's s good service and reasonable price. They were on time for the estimate and I was contacted very soon with the quote. They are nice people. read more

Called in for an estimate, the crew showed up on time, was given estimate and within 20 minutes the problem was solved. They guys are great! I had gotten several estimates which was much higher theirs. I called San Mateo Public Works and I got their name as a referral. Good Job Gina read more

Happy with their service. I have used SW twice this year for various issues. Both times the guys were knowledgeable and did a great job.

Often, the only thing worse than having a plumbing problem is trying to find a competent, honest, affordably priced plumber. I am so thankful I found Sewer Rat (thanks to my neighbor, thanks to his father in law). They have been extremely competitively priced on both small jobs (snaking drains) and big jobs (pulling a new sleeve through our sewer pipe). They are also expert, polite, come on time, clean up after themselves, and take credit cards. It's nice to feel happy after suffering through a nasty plumbing problem. read more

Caution: stay away from Sewer Rat! The owner is a nice guy until he sends out one of his crew that is completely incompetent and too lazy to replace a $3.00 part..... . His crew's shotty repair caused a massive flood in the middle of the night and 10's of thousands in damage, and the most dispicable part was that the owner (Dave) didn't even take the time to come see the damage or respond to the emergency call when it happened. Obviously, we'll never use them again and if you want a competenant plumber you won't use them either! read more

It is strange that I am giving a five star rating when I actually didn't receive any service but I have to give technician Mike Castle five stars for being such a fair guy. Another contractor had noticed some rot in my garage ceiling and and told me that I needed a new wax ring for my toilet. I called Sewer Rat and Mike came out and said that there was no active leak so the toilet didn't need anything. He didn't charge me for the drive out when just about any other contractor would have charged me for showing up. Just a nice thing to do. Also a good reminder that contractors shouldn't diagnose problems outside their field. read more

i live in a flat in an old house in the mission. my landlady lives right below me. i've been here for almost two years and we have never had plumbing issues. until recently. about a month ago i noticed the toilet flushing a little sluggishly. hm, peculiar. i didn't think too much of it until i was face-to-face with backed up disgustingness from my landlady's toilet (which is weird because girls don't poop, heh). in the past two weeks we have had plumbers from Sewer Rat pay us several visits, though i don't think the subsequent second and third visit were due to errors on their end... just old plumbing, i suspect. FIRST VISIT: a young man came, unclogged our toilets, said we have a 30-day warrantee SECOND VISIT: an older gentleman came, unclogged our toilets again, flushing heaven and the visit was included in the warrantee! THIRD VISIT: i'll let you know, he's here right now but we did learn that the 30-day warrantee means you get one free phone call in the 30-days after the first visit. i can't speak to the pricing because my landlady is obviously incurring the cost but she did mention the first visit was about $200. my landlady and i had no problems with the plumbers who came and i think they may have arrived a little later than they anticipated but to be honest, i don't really care. they deal with other people's pee and poo all day so if they want to show up 30-minutes later than they said they would, fine by me. do you want me to stop talking about gross toilet issues? read more

Yay for Sewer Rat! Always getting the job done quickly - Debbie is wonderful!

Had a clogged bathtub, and guests arriving in a few hours. "Sewer Rat" representative Mike Castle, was able to get over in about an hour, handled things easily and professionally. Cost was fair, and I'd definitely recommend or call again, should the need arise. read more

When it rains, it pours...Our washing machine was not working and when trying to figure out the problem, I also noticed that the faucet/valve supplying the cold water to the washer was leaking. I first called Noel Appliances regarding the washer. It was a relatively easy repair, but he had to order a part. He suggested that I get the leak fixed while we waited for the part and he recommended Sewer Rat. I called on a Thursday, hoping to get an appointment on Friday my roommate was working from home. I explianed that he had to be on a call from 12-1pm so we needed to make sure that the work was done by then. Debbie, who answered the phone said she understood and would check the schedule when she got to the office, but she thought she could give me a 9-11am and would call back to confirm. Debbie called back within 2 hours and said that she could give me an 8:30-9am window to make sure the work was done by noon. She explained their rates were hourly plus parts. When Friday came, the plumber called and asked if he could come early. We said sure and he arrived a few minutes later. He was friendly, professional, and fixed the probelm in less than an hour. He also connected the new hoses that we got for our machine. I highly recommend this company and they will be the first one I call next time I have a problem. read more

Great customer service! Dispatcher was so helpful and technicians came when scheduled which helped plan my day accordingly. They finished and fixed my problem and had my toilet working in no time. Would definitely use them again. read more

David of Sewer Rat came promptly at 9:00 am and put on his "booties" right away before entering my home. Saw the problem, and fixed it. Sewer Rat is the BEST!!!! Efficient and pleasant, from office staff to workers. read more

The servicemen seemed nice on the phone and in person but the woman I talked to on 2 occasions was rude and very unprofessional. She is sure to drive off a good share of business for these guys. I think she's the wife of one of the plumbers. They better hire someone else and tell her to find another job (maybe a prison guard/bart police?). I manage property that has frequent sewer/plumbing needs. I would have used these guys for years and years if only she had showed some common courtesy for the customer. Instead she ended up YELLING at me on the phone. My payment was revoked as they did not honor their warranty. read more

Sewer Rat was tremendously helpful fixing the sewer lateral in our new home. They're knowledgeable, reasonably priced, communicative and had great follow through - everything you would want from a plumbing company! read more

Called this morning and didn't get a call back for 2 hours but Joe came out even before the time window that they quoted me for the afternoon. He doesn't have a good bedside manner but knew what he was doing, worked fast and kept things neat and clean. Definitely one of the cheapest for jetting out your sewer line in SF! read more

David from Sewer Rat solved a problem involving a complex plumbing issue at my office. I had consulted with several experts to try to solve the problem, but no-one could come up with an answer. David methodically evaluated and identified the problem and in a short period of time solved it. He made solving the problem look easy. He saved me a lot of money. Friends had given me the recommendation to call Sewer Rat. If you have a tough problem to solve, your best bet is to call David at Sewer Rat. read more

On new years eve 2015, the amazing woman who answeres the phone, sorry I forgot your name. She did whatever she could to get someone out to the house and snake our drain. It's a 2 man job because they have to go through the roof. If they had to come the next day it would have cost more because of the holiday and she really tried to save me some money. Now it's November 5th 2016 and I'm about to have surgery and we need the drain snaked again! And if anyone has had to prepare for surgery you know that you really need a working toilet! This wonderful woman is doing her best to get someone out to save the day again! She is a real human and understands that needs and really tries to help you. I would highly recommend this company and they are really reasonably priced. More than I can say for the comparison out there. The other companies I called totally tried to jack me. I'm a single mom and I was being extorted because I was alone. One guy wanted to tear apart my bathroom to snake a drain and charge me $1000 no way. But sewer rat, they never tried to take advantage of me and I was comfortable with the gentleman who snaked the drain. Vary important if it's just you and your child. read more

my review could not be more opposite than the first one. terrible experience. even worse customer service... they came, didn't get the job done and still charged me. when i called back to see if i could get some credit toward actually getting the job done, they said that's not the way they handle business. i said 'nice business practice' and then the woman hung up on me. i write honest reviews, and would definitely consider a different avenue for your plumbing needs! read more

The problem was not the plumber--he did his job. What made the experience unnecessarily unpleasant was the operator/dispatcher. On two different days I spoke to her, and each time I was met with the thinly concealed hostility of a truly wretched person. Absolutely rude, rushed, rancorous. Such toxicity should be flushed away, not leaked back to a customer paying full fee. read more

super fast response, Mike was nice and fixed the problem quickly! thanks so much!!!

They get 1 star for the obnoxious telephone service. I have been a loyal customer of theirs now for about 6 years since they fixed the main to my apartment building. I called to make an appointment for today to have the main cleaned out. Debbie said they had service between 1 and 4. So I made an appointment. Come to find out when I called back at 3:45 that the appointment was for Monday. Debbie was extremely rude to me so rude I will never call them again. Actually she cancelled my appointment for Monday. I guess they are so busy the don't need my business. Too bad guys I guess there is always someone else that is nicer... read more

Over the past few months, I've seen Sewer Rat trucks in my neighborhood. So when I was having trouble with my sewer, I called them and am so glad that I did!! Turns out that I needed a new sewer. I was very impressed by the crew. Danny, the sewer manager, was very clear when explaining what had to be done and why, and what the process and timeline would be. The crew arrived on the date scheduled and, throughout the process, they arrived on time, cleaned up before leaving and ensured that the site was safe before leaving for the day. They are very friendly and didn't mind my questions. When I did have a concern, I called Danny who was very quick in calling me back to address my concern. I would highly recommend them if you are having trouble with your sewer and/or need a sewer replacement. read more

I called Sewer Rate a sewer stoppage at 3pm in the afternoon. They were very responsive. The technician James was there within 30 minutes. He worked on the sewer line and clear it. Checked other bathroom to make sure they are all working. It was a very efficient work! Highly recommend it. read more

Didn't even get the job done and left a huge trail of plumber dirt through my house. Then to add to the experience, he took a part the dirty clogged drain and left it on the floor with all the screws laid about knowing perfectly well he wasn't coming back to finish the job today. read more

Each time they come to handle my problem same day that I call. Their prices are reasonable. They have not charged me if the problem is insignificant. I have not needed to call back because their work works first time. They have snaked my line twice, replaced a toilet seal, and fixed a broken toilet. Will call them next time I need a plumber. The receptionist, yes someone answers the phone, is super pleasant. Joe was here the last few calls and he's good at his job. read more

This is as good as it gets. From the owner David to Debbie the office manager to Mike and Joe the technicians and to Rene and Javier that does the REAL HARD grunt work....you could NOT ask for a better group of people. The sewer lateral was replaced 3 years ago by Dave from Sewer Rat. This past week, we had a major blockage in our sewer lateral that resulted in raw sewage backflowing out of our clean out onto our property. We couldn't use our toilets, sinks, washing machine, etc for a total of 5 days. Life was miserable. I contacted Dave and he came out as soon as he could to clear the blockage. Dave is a straightforward no nonsense guy who wants to get the job done. After snaking and putting a camera into the sewer lateral, he managed to clear the blockage. He said since he did the original work 3 years ago, he wouldn't charge me. That is solid service. read more

James was extremely helpful with our plumbing issue. He was here on time, on a Sunday, and immediately got to work clearing our backed up line. He gave us helpful tips to prevent it from happening again and suggestions on what to do if it happens again. James was very helpful and professional. read more

Made an appointment, but the office manager who took the appointment made an error and set it for the wrong day. When I received a voicemail indicating an error had been made, I called back. The office manager insisted it was my mistake (even though I distinctly recalled the conversation), and made a snide comment that she didn't "have time for this crap." Stunned, I asked for the owner to give me a call back. In response, she told me to take my business elsewhere and stated she was "an owner." I wish I had the opportunity to speak with the real, managing owner, as all that was needed to fix the error was setting it for the right date, without all the attitude. read more

This past Friday all of our drains were either super slow or backing up. Called Sewer Rat, dispatcher was super helpful and knowledgeable. She answered all my questions and told me Mike the technician would be out between 11-1. Mike showed up on time, fixed the problem, I was able to pay with a credit card right on the spot....then got a emailed receipt later on that day. Nice to have service from a company whose technicians and office are on the same page. read more
