The service was fantastic and quick. I was greeted by 2 energetic staff members who aimed to please. Sadly, I was very fatigued at the time and couldn't match their energy, which i hope they didn't take personally. Settepani is a surprise find one could easily overlook along busy Malcolm X Boulevard in Harlem. I was walking by on a rainy and chilly Saturday and stumbled upon Settepani, which is exclusively a bakery at other locations, but is a whole cafe with a substantial menu in Harlem. There is a small set of tables and chairs outside for classic sidewalk cafe seating and plenty of two and four topper tables and booths inside. You are met with the pastries up front and I seemed to be in a weak moment. The sight of their reasonably priced tarts at $6 apiece makes the decision very easy: pecan for one and apricot almondine for the second. They will pack them in small cardboard boxes if they have them available so your tarts are not crushed on the way home. They made it home safely intact, despite being at the bottom of my back pack. These tarts have a nice and firm crust and seem pretty durable. The pecan tart is more straightforward, but with a surprise twist. The pecan tart has a top layer covered completely with pecans, which, combined with the thin layer of filling far less than commonly found in pecan pie, improves the pecan to filling ratio and contributes to its nutty pecan flavor. I taste what seems to be maple syrup reduced that may be the glaze and contributes to the flavor and texture of the crust. This pecan tart is for those who prefer something less sweet and more nutty than pecan pie and find pecan pie too full of sweet filling. The apricot almondine tart revealed its almond character before I looked it up on the menu. Visually, it reveals the three apricot halves in a triangle atop the tart. The apricot serves as an introduction to the subtle layer of marzipan underneath. That's when I searched the menu to see if they describe the ingredients of their pastries. The tarts at Settepani are not too sweet and that is a big positive for me. I have found the American style of baking is more reliant on sugar, whereas other parts of the world use fruit or other means to bring out sweetness. Settepani would be a great place to have brunch finished with a pastry and coffee. Nothing seems exhorbantly priced and this pastry intro went very well. The rest of the menu is promising for a return and there's more upside to their rating when I return. 3.9 stars! read more

You know...sometimes you go to a restaurant that you expect to really love. That does not mean you come with unrealistic expectations, it just means you think it will be a great place. This sadly was not true of Settipani. We went with high expectations, and the experience was very disappointing. Some things are avoidable, some not. We arrived at 6:45 and the restaurant not full, was already extremely noisy, The volume got louder and louder and when it reaches 88db, earplugs become necessary....not the way one wants to eat dinner. The servers were friendly and hard working, but there were not enough of them. They simply dashed around. Settepani should definitely hire more servers, particularly on weekends. We had a burrata peach salad and the taglierini. Both were good, the taglierini a little salty. The portions were also a little small for the price, but we were ok with that. Then we ordered a dessert from the bakery. A pistachio cake looked delicious since the vaunted tiramisu had already sold out at 7pm on a Friday night. The pistachio cake was very ample, certainly a large enough portion for two of us. It was solid oily cream, buttercream ??, I have no idea, with absolutely no flavor or texture, it was certainly not a cake, and neither of us could eat it after each taking one small bite. It was absolutely inedible ! I called one of the overworked waiters over to take it away and bring us a bill. He did not even bother to ask us why we were returning a cake that was virtually uneaten. I got the bill, paid it and then handing it to him, said "The cake was inedible." "Why didn't you tell me ?" he replied....I did not say this but I thought "If you see an item totally uneaten, is it not the server's job to ask if anything might be wrong ?" As we left, he handed us a small bag with a couple of cookies, also not really fresh, a bit dried out, but edible, as, I suppose, an apology. It was a nice gesture but given the quality of the cookies, hardly adequate. One last note, the owners were there greeting some friends at a table near ours. They could have just said hello and thank you for coming to other tables who were not their friends, but they did not choose to do so. It would have been a very nice gesture since even new customers knew who they were, and other owner managers often make a point of welcoming new faces...it does encourage future patronage, I would think. read more

I live in California but I've always been fond of this place! The location is great! It's perfect for a patio dinner at dusk! But today! I had the pastries! I didn't know that this was one of their THiNGS! One of the best scones I've ever had! So I'll be stopping thru for morning items now!! We also had dinner! I have been to Settepani twice the first time the waiter was very rude and slow (the waiter was busy flirting with the girls at another table). The second time I stopped by for coffee and a pastry this past Sunday... once again bad service! My boyfriend and I arrived at the restaurant early morning there were two people in the restaurant, we went up to the counter to order our coffees and we were told in a angry tone that we would need to sit at a table if we are drinking our coffee there, we went to sit at a table in the dining room and the woman pointed at a table near the front door and said "coffee drinkers sit on this side of the restaurant" we went and had a seat and waited about 15 minutes without anyone coming over to take our order. We got out of our seat and left the restaurant! I will not be returning to Settepani as they do not deserve my business! And based on the reviews here on Yelp it seems like others agree! And since we'd finished with a painting class a short drive away, this Lenox Ave restaurant, turned out ok. After some bouts of rain, the sun came out and decided on outside seating. If you're traumatized by bees like I am, obviously sit away from the flower boxes as these had honeybees hovering. My daughter and I took it upon ourselves to just move to another table. One gentleman (manager?) was extremely friendly and talkative. The other manager seemed mechanical and at that point my kid and I didn't want to rattle the cage too much- but his attitude seriously needs to be checked. Our Crème Fraîche(?) Sour Cream(?)+Salmon+caviar Crostini were crisp, light and absolutely delightful to eat and my Pear Spritzer Mocktail was refreshing. My daughter's Margherita pie had nice taste with a puffy crust- but it was a bit doughy. My Bronzino- with some uncooked/some overcooked wedge potatoes and too-perfectly-laid out zucchini and squash slices had a nice crisp and tasted good. For a brand that's been hanging around as long as they have, my dish was quite honestly, unimaginative. Came here for an outing while in town. My friend Sky recommended the restaurant as a place she had wanted to try. We came here and the service was amazing! The staff were all nice, attentive and made some great suggestions on food and drink options. The day we came they were out of some menu items but that didn't stop us from ordering good eats. The food was so delicious, especially the peach mixed salad! I'm not sure if the salad is seasonal but if they still have it on the menu def give it a try!! The NA spritz were also good, but the lemon one (she bites) is very bitter so be mindful of that when ordering. I think the service could have been better and more attentive. We were seated on a small corner table outside and did feel forgotten often even though all the other tables around us got consistent service. Great food, mediocre service. I've eaten here half a dozen times over the last few years, and the vegetarian pastas are really yummy. It's always a diverse crowd and seems to be a popular spot for date nights, group dinners for millennial & Gen X women, and occasionally fundraisers/birthdays. On one occasion, I couldn't get a receipt reprint that I really needed, despite emails, calls, and going in person to request it. I gave up after a couple weeks, but I feel like it's pretty standard practice to provide a receipt and I was made to feel like this was a completely unreasonable ask. On another occasion, we arrived on time for our reservation but no table was reserved. There were plenty of seats so we were seated without an issue. One server gave us cups and offered us water but never came back with the water. Another came ten minutes later and offered water, which he did come back with. We were only given one menu for our group of four people. When we requested more menus, we were eventually given exactly one more. Why?! Our server is usually Jean-Claude, and he's a character. Not everyone's cup of tea. He's flirtatious, flattering, and jovial but can come across as dismissive, eg when all but one person has been served and the other entree "will be out soon" for 20min and is dropped off without apology after everyone else has given up on politeness and polished off their dishes. Or when asked whether a cocktail was sweet, he assures it is not sweet, and then it arrives extremely sweet. It's often loud inside, with music that's slightly too loud so people are shouting over it. There are no soft surfaces so sound isn't dampened at all. The strange lighting situation (dim plus blue-hued fairy lights on the ceiling) also takes away from the intention to create a nice sit-down environment. TLDR; after many chances, and an equal number of service misses, I've relegated Settepani to date night takeout. read more

The new rainbow cookie croissant is definitely worth trying! I have a feeling they are going to get harder and harder to get your hands on. The jam and cream in the middle are so good and makes it an easy to treat to eat. I warmed it in the microwave for a few seconds to make it a little more warm gooey. What an experience. I love love enjoying a nice weather in Harlem. The restaurant is located in a quaint corner in, and it feels so dreamy sitting in the outdoor area. The creamy rosemary sauce really complemented the dish. I had a fantastic time just indulging in the energy. The sunlight always seems this spot directly. This is now my favorite restaurant in Harlem. I fell in love with the gorgeous interior decor with beautiful bouquets of flowers and twinkle lights up above. There was plenty of lovely outdoor seating in front, and since it was a nice day out, we chose outdoor dining. My friend and I shared the Fried Calamari, which was served with tomato sauce. The calamari had a nice crunch, but was a bit chewy for my liking. I don't think it was worth it for $17. For my entree, I ordered the Pistachio Crusted Lamb Chops, which came with roasted artichokes and potatoes. This was absolutely delicious! The lamb chops were encrusted with actual pistachio pieces, and tasted almost candied with a slight crisp. The lamb chops were wonderfully tender, succulent, and well seasoned. The veggies were cooked perfectly and quite flavorful. However, I would have preferred something other than artichoke, which was kind of hard to eat. Since this place is also a bakery, there are many tempting dessert options. My friend and I decided to share one of the small cakes, which were only $12. We went with the sponge cake with caramel frosting. The frosting was velvety smooth, rich, sweet, while the sponge cake was moist. Each delightful bite melted in your mouth! Service was solid. Our waiter was extremely friendly, charming, with a great sense of humor. It was just a little difficult to get the waiters' attention at the end when we wanted our bill. Delicious! I've visited before but this recent visit was a better experience all things considered. The outdoor area was very spacious and tables were seated enough far apart. The menu was not too complicated. My party tried the pizzas, lasagna, and I had the salmon with green beans. My dish was cooked well- great seasoning and not dry. We also tried the bombas and they were good! The Nutella and the 2020 redemption were the best ones. They also have adult Capri suns that were tasty. My friends and I were really looking forward to trying this place, but we were sorely disappointed for multiple reasons. I'll elaborate, but the TL:DR is that I would NOT recommend this place for young people, the service was atrocious, and the food was simply not good. I made a reservation for our group at 9:15, and the last member of our party and I arrived around 9:25. Upon entering, we immediately noticed that we were the youngest people in the establishment by 20 years, easily. The two other people in our party who had arrived before us were seated, but they hadn't received the drinks they ordered more than 10 minutes ago. When our waiter finally came to our table, he joked that since we were late, he couldn't serve us. I did not appreciate this comment. Our waiter and the service are my biggest complaint. Our server was obviously flirting with the other women and me at my table even though he was much older than us and we were clearly uncomfortable. In addition to this, he: - didn't ask about food or quality of drinks - said that bread was coming, but it never appeared - never brought the salt and pepper we asked for - didn't clear empty plates or empty glasses in a timely manner The worst part of the night was a direct result of empty plates being left on the table. As another waiter brought our main courses, I lifted up one of my dirty plates to make room on the table. When he put my pasta on the table, he hit my dirty plate, making my sauce-covered fork flip onto my shirt. He asked if I was okay, but didn't say sorry. I noticed that my gnocchi didn't smell appetizing so I wasn't in a rush to eat it, but I also couldn't because I no longer had a clean fork. When I eventually got my fork and tried the gnocchi, it wasn't good at all. I communicated this to the waiter and asked if he could take it back, and he joked that I would have to pay him a thousand dollars. By this point, I am very annoyed and not in the mood, so I don't laugh. He tells me to lighten up and that life is short so I should laugh, which I didn't appreciate at all. Just take back the food, please! I will say that the drinks were generally good and that the meatballs were tasty. I would recommend that this establishment rebrand as a bakery + bar with small plates because no one at my table liked their entree. It was also clear that there was only one waiter for the entire restaurant, which I'm sure impacted our experience. I will never return, and would advise you not to go! read more

This is my go to restaurant in my neighborhood. The food, staff and ambience is excellent. The staff get to know you after awhile and kind of treat you like family. I always enjoy my visits to this restaurant. It's only a few blocks from where I live and it's always a nice walk (both ways). They do switch up the menu so if you're adventurous this is definitely the place for you. Service is always great, and the atmosphere is just so pleasant. I enjoyed the kale salad with shrimp for lunch. Always flavorful and I truly appreciate when the kale has been "massaged" it's the little things. It's dressed with a light balsamic dressing, sliced avocado, thinly sliced red onion and topped with cranberries. Our food came out hot and in less than 10 minutes! Settapani has warm and welcoming ambiance. There is currently a Fall festive theme that includes colorful decor( bright + earth tones variations) as well as gorgeous lighting arrangements. Sayings on the wall such as "This World Needs Vision" + "Love Is Golden" adds to their cool aesthetic. The bar area has lovely leaf shaped table placemats and candles on the counter. They also have a mini-lounge area near the front entrance and dinind table on the side and back section. Settapani has a "Bar Bites" Menu and an entree menu. Server Jovani expressed kind greetings and made food recommendations. The Lump Crab Cake ($12) served with fresh salad greens was really good. Delicious Bolognese had firm pasta and tasty meat sauce. He mentioned that the Hot Apple Cider is good and can be made w/ or w/ out liquor. Ordering the standard Hot Apple Cider ($4) proved to be the right choice especiallyon a chilly evening...oh so sweet, smooth and rich!
