The view - looking out over the rolling hills of redwoods, with the ocean on the horizon - is truly breathtaking. We fell in love the moment we saw it, and it blew our guests away. Being in that much natural beauty took so much pressure off other things - we could keep decor minimal. Who needs balloons with a view like that! And the set up is so versatile - we had our late afternoon ceremony in the upper courtyard, which offered shade for our guest from the house (and the photos of us saying our vows have that gorgeous backdrop). There's also a small deck where we had a jazz trio play during cocktail hour, and we set up the pathway to the big deck with our guest book/photo station and the paella & buffet stations. That left us the whole deck for dinner tables, the band, and a big dance floor. Piecing together the layout from all the options the space affords was so much fun, and it made us feel like the event was really ours, you know? It was exactly what we wanted. Just as importantly, the owners, Greg and Patty, were such generous and thoughtful hosts. They exude warmth and made us feel welcome from the first moment we arrived. They walked us through the venue, throwing out ideas for ways we could really make the space our own. They were amazing with communication, too. We were able to confirm and book the space about a year in advance of the wedding, and over the following 12 months, I must have sent a couple dozen emails with questions. They answered every single one within a day at the most, and always with ideas to help make our plan a reality. During our walk through, they were so helpful with offering solutions to make things run smoothly, and when we arrived on the day, they had everything set up exactly as we discussed. Living Well was such a gem of a place to find, and I cannot recommend it strongly enough.

My First Visit as a Wedding Guest…read more This review is based on my one and only visit to the venue as a guest at a wedding. The venue itself was beautiful and provided a great setting for the wedding. Unfortunately, the overall service experience did not match the setting. While the bartenders were good and one staff member was genuinely sweet and pleasant, my interaction with another staff member left a negative impression. Dinner was served while we were seated outside. Unfortunately, the food was not covered, so by the time it left the kitchen and reached the tables, its temperature had dropped dramatically. This significantly affected the dining experience and was disappointing for a wedding meal. There was also a female staff member, who I believe may have been a manager, who was frequently hovering around and policing the photo booth area. Her demeanor came across as noticeably rude and stressed, and the way she interacted with guests did not feel welcoming. I understand that managing a wedding venue and keeping things running smoothly can be stressful, but customer service and how guests are treated still matter. Overall, the venue has a beautiful setting, and there were some positive interactions, particularly with the bartenders and the friendly staff member I mentioned. However, the lack of warmth, the experience with the staff member overseeing the photo booth, and the temperature of the food took away from what should have been a memorable and enjoyable occasion. Since this was my only visit, I can only speak to my personal experience that day. I hope management takes guest feedback seriously and makes customer service, food presentation, and meal service a bigger priority

I found myself here Friday night April 8th to see Henry Rollins 50th Birthday Spoken Word Tour. The show was originally scheduled at the Brookdale Lodge (still random) but with a scheduling conflict, moved here. This hall was pretty easy to find. Not very far off of the freeway and had plenty of free parking. Easy accessible in and out. Just your typical hall sort of place. Seats were padded, which was nice for a 2 1/2 hour show. There is a bar, in a separate room, which was open before, during and after the show. You could easily sit at the bar and still enjoy what is going on in the other room. Staff at the bar was great and there were about 5 "bartenders". Wayyyy way overstaffed, but cool. Reasonable drink prices. $4 for a pale ale. Anyway, if you ever find yourself seeing a show, or a spoken word here, its a fine venue for that. I have seen Henry at several other locations and I was perfectly happy to have seen him here too.

A wedding is a huge investment in time and money, especially in Santa Cruz. Everywhere from Santa…read moreCruz to San Francisco and from small and individually owned to wedding industrial costs about the same (a lot). My partner and I visited a whirlwind of venues, and lets face it, everywhere in the Santa Cruz area is beautiful, but we had a hard time finding something that was flexible, unique, and included our favorite things about the area. We almost signed about 5 different contracts, and each time we thought, "Well, this would work, I suppose." But that always felt like a terrible way to sign over such a huge element of our wedding, so we didn't. Luckily, Redwood Ridge was the last venue on our list, and it was perfect. It also didn't cost much more than any of the other viable options. The venue: My partner is Swiss, so we had a large contingent traveling over continent and ocean to celebrate with us, and it meant a lot to us to have such a varied example of the Santa Cruz landscape: a view of the hills and the ocean, old redwoods (even a fairy circle), a hillside vineyard, and a rustic barn. It was everything that we wanted and more than we had expected to find. The venue is stunning with beautiful lighting in the barn and around the pond at night. My wedding unfortunately coordinated with the fire, so the sunset was not as spectacular as we had hoped for; however, 99% of you can count on a fantastic close to your ceremony with the sun setting over the hills. At night the sky gets incredibly clear (Milky Way etc.), so considering borrowing a friend's telescope to set up at night. Lighting: I bought little tealight lanterns for the tables and found no extra lighting to be necessary. The lanterns probably weren't necessary either, but they were cute. The owners: Everyone was super nice and flexible. I really appreciated how friendly and approachable Candice and Gary were. They helped whenever possible, and even came and sat with us by the fire pit when the party had died down and there were just a handful of us left. It is a home and a family business, so there are things that you might not encounter at other venues like a freezer full of berries or a fridge full of eggs; however, all we had to do was ask and the Candice or Gary immediately helped us with whatever we needed. Not being 100% polished professional all of the time is nice when it comes to small things like lending tables and chairs, putting out corn-hole, or starting a fire in the fire-pit. None of which was obligatory on their part and none of which I was charged for. Music etc.: I had no problem at all with music. We were able to have the volume at a totally dance-able level even after sundown. There are noise limits written into the contract, but those are mandated by law and we encountered them at every venue we looked at. We had thought that the limits would be more limiting then they ended up actually being. Wine: You have to buy the vineyard's wine, but luckily it is pretty good (we bought the whole range: a white, a red, and a rose. Having the rose was a nice touch and let us stray a bit from the standard red and white for the table. You also get to slap your own label on the bottle, which is pretty cute and makes for a good keepsake. Accessibility: The paths are dirt (which I like even though I wore spike heals) and the grounds are large (which I am grateful for), so that does cause some problems with the older folks. There is a service entrance for vehicles that can get you to the reception area pretty easily, but I would make sure that older people are prepared for a little walk. Canes would be fine; walkers would not. My grandmother, who is 91, used her wheelchair which worked as long as someone pushed her over the dirt paths (inside the barn and on the patio was fine). We had a beautiful wedding, and I owe a lot of that to the venue alone. A LOT of the rest I owe to the family and friends who pitched in, but I owe thanks to Gary and Candice as well for being flexible, helpful, and thoughtful throughout the entire process.

She should be embarrassed as a "property manager" that she can't get her paperwork strait or remember who she is talking to. Very disorganized. Let out it this way , 10 days before my wedding (paid in advance cash ) she stated I still owe money . Clearly that wasn't the case . I have her signature showing the date and the amount on the contract that it was paid In full. She didn't answer any text emails or phone calls. It was like pulling teeth . And trust ladies that's the least u need when planning your wedding, a day you will never forget . This was on a Friday. since I got no response from trying to get a hold of her to show the payments , I decided to pay her a visit and get my money back so I can find a new place . With fingers crossed because I have less than 10 days to find a place that holds 150 people last minute. Not to mention change the invitations and catering . As I arrived she looked shocked . I let her know I'm here to pick up the remaining amount and I showed her my copy of the contract . She looked lost and confused. She didn't have a clue as to what I was talking about. After reviewing the contract She wrote me a check for 1k less than originally paid. I said I will be back to collect the remaining with a lawyer. I left without an issue. Have not heard from her this entire weekend . Comes Monday I get a check in the mail for the remaining amount ! Apparently after Candi saw my copy of the contract with her signature and writing stating paid in full , she realized she make a mistake and she owed me the remaining 1k. I called her after receiving the check. I told her I was very confused because just two days ago she said I owed her money. On a second note if she realized she made the mistake it could have been taken care of when I showed her the contract that showed all paid. Problem would have been solved . But no, she isn't organized . Her excuse was she doesn't deal with cash so she didn't make note of my payment other than on my contract. WOW! Could have been solved and no nervousness breakdown needed. After an awkward moment of silence because she had no words to express what she has done ,she then had the nerve to say " well the property is still available if you want " I said how can I feel comfortable and confident to have one of the best days of my life celebrated at her home ? No not happening . I'd rather have my wedding in my backyard then to deal with that ever again. I did find a place within a few days of the wedding . We had to communicate the change of the ceremony and updated our cater. Sad but true because she could be making a killing if she knew how to run a business with dignity and respect.
