My husband and I love wine and stopped at this winery before heading to our hotel.  They offer so many cool items to purchase.  We chose the Reserve Flight for $25 per person.  We did our tasting outside, and the view was beautiful.  It was peaceful and relaxing.  They provide breadsticks.  My husband's breadsticks were fine but mine were stale.  I asked the server if they waived the tasting fee if we purchased a bottle.  He said no because their pours are so generous.  I agree!  Their pours were much larger than most wineries.  We liked their wine but not enough to purchase a bottle.  We enjoyed our visit though! read more

I became a member a few months ago. I enjoy coming here and taking advantage of my benefits. The wine is affordable, tasty, free monthly wine tastings and they host great member events. Place is cozy, friendly, and has the most beautiful patio. Come check out whenever you are in the Santa Cruz Area. Go take a hike nearby and have some wine after. We split one Reserve Flight of 5 different pours.  They were very generous with the portions.  Fortunately, everything was great but we were surprised by the Pinor Noir, that it was smooth, not sour, and enjoyable.  They say their location is Pinor country. We ended up buying 2 bottles: Regan Vineyard Pinor Noir 2022 Reserved $46 Sierra Foothills Port 2021 $28 (for a full size bottle) I would highly recommend this place for tasting. read more

Bargetto has excellent customer service, and their white wines are sweet and divine. We found ourselves devouring every wine tasting drop, even when we thought "we don't like sweet wines". Um, we threw that out the window when we tried our first wine at Bargetto. The atmosphere in the tasting room is "warm farmhouse" with deep brown wood, beautiful high ceilings, and long windows that overlook the trees and creek, a perfect encapsulation of the area. There is also a spacious outdoor area for larger groups or families with kids who want to run around. Before we left, they gave us a private tour of the back rooms, so we saw how the bottled and labeled their wines and viewed the event gathering areas. It was a perfect way to end our afternoon. We walked in this tasting room on Saturday around 2:30pm. The host was able to seat us right away. They had outdoor and indoor seatings, but outdoor was limited so we sat indoors. It was busy! But the female staff who helped pour our wines was attentive. We were also given complimentary breadsticks. We saw a wedding happening here too. Tasting fee was $20 or $25 for 5 wines. Wines weren't our style though. It was light Italian style wines. Not good or very bad. They also sell snacks like charcuterie and cheese snack packs in their fridge. When I was a member, we got a couple of terrible bottles in our shipments in 2021. I'm not sure what happened with those. It's also not the same fun hang and easy-going environment it used to be. They book a lot of events and I had several impromptu tasting plans thwarted because of it. Which is no big deal, but the whole appeal of the membership was that it's such a nice place to just stop by and enjoy for a bit. With some unexpectedly funky bottles and seeing it become a less fun place to hang out, we ended our membership. I still enjoy attending some of their public special events. It's a gorgeous location and I still enjoy their wine, but I stick to buying a tasting or glass when I visit and prefer not to take any home. read more

BARGETTO! From the first time that I came this venue, my husband and I knew we wanted it to be a part of our wedding weekend. We had our rehearsal dinner here and it was INCREDIBLE. It truly set the tone for the remainder of the weekend. The venue is naturally gorgeous and it was great to have tables, napkins included in the price. Had the pleasure of going to their annual art and wine festival this past weekend, and when I saw the flyer online, I honestly didn't know this was held by a winery. It's very clear that this community is small and everyone is friends with each other. They had a lot of local art vendors and great live music. The keepsake wine glass from the festival came with 5 pours (1 tasting) for $15. And wow--the guys poured the wine with a heavy hand! It was a bit disappointing that the wine wasn't it really talked about and we were rushed along but I understand that the staff was trying to greet friends. The scenery and location of this winery is so beautiful. I was glad that everyone chose to sit outside in the sun because the indoor area was empty and had plenty of space to watch the creek below from the large windows. Overall a nice ambiance. read more

I spoke to them advance prior to bringing seven of my buddies all enjoying celebrating our 70th birthdays. I was told that the best time to show up is between four and 5 o'clock but never was told that winetasting stopped at 4 o'clock. We showed up about 10 minutes after four and were told very matter-of-fact and on the border of being rude that there will be no more wine tasting served. It's not unusual for our group to walk away from a winery without picking up 12 to 24 bottles of wine so unfortunately they lost a fair amount of business and didn't make any fans of this winery unfortunately. read more

TLDR: Don't go here if you are brown & middle class. Save your money/dignity and go to the Monterey local. I am going to start this review with saying that my husband & I have been a member of the Bargetto winery for four going on five years. We have had family and friends sign up because we took them to the Monterey local and fell in love with the Chaucer's wine and the extremely kind staff. So having said that I am making this review because I hope to see positive change take place at this location. The Santa Cruz local has constantly time and time again fallen short to me and left a bitter taste in my mouth (and not because of the wine.) My family & I signed up at the Monterey local because we loved the Chaucer's (sweet wine) tasting. We go to the winery twice a month or so to do a tasting. We have gone to the Santa Cruz local I would say 10ish times and each time we have gone they have told us they do not offer the Chaucer's tasting. I don't understand from a business stand point why this is? In theory this local is the main local so they should have all of the same wines as their satellite location. So why not offer the sweet wines? I realize that the Monterey tasting room is in a touristy area so perhaps that is why they offer the sweet wines but why can't these also be offered at the Soquel local? Is it a classist thing? That perhaps those of a more dignified palette do not indulge in sweet wines? I don't know but it is embarrassing that every time we ask we are looked at as if we are asking something completely crazy and absurd. On two separate occasions I have gone with friends & family to the Aptos local and have been turned around. One time there was still 30 minutes to spare and they had just sat the couple in front of us. Another time they told us we needed a reservation. But they did not answer their phone and when I said no one answered she looked at me and said, "Well you should have left a voice mail." I responded with, "Well I didn't think that would be heard right away." Her response was, "Well that is how you get a reservation." Instead of just trying to understand my reasoning for simply driving in. I don't know why I have had these experiences at the Aptos local. I wonder if it is because my friends, family, & I do not meet the general mold of the Aptos local since we are not white, upper class locals but rather brown middle class and from the Salinas Valley. Regardless our treatment at the counter is just different and my family has noticed the differences in interaction with us versus their normal white patrons around us. I hope that I am wrong and that other middle class brown people have had different experiences but I can honestly say that we will not attend this location or bring friends and family members from out of town to see the beautiful view of the creek. We will stay at the Monterey local where the staff is kind, welcoming, & they serve you all the wines they offer without judgement. read more

This would be a great place to hang out in for hours. It is large and has ample outdoor areas for wandering around on a patio above a creek. The best of the wine was the Dulcetto and the Syrah. Since we were there with friends, the tasting fees were waived, which is what I recommend. Friendly staff and historical location--go for that. read more

It's a lovely place to site with 'the boy' and sip wine and watch butterflies. My family that was with me loved this winery and became club members... practically had to drag them away from the tasting bar to make our dinner reservation. Of the five tastings we did on that day and three the next Bargetto's was by far our favorite. Definitely add this spot to your tasting tour of the area. read more

Many moons ago, in 1997, I discovered Bargetto wines at the Monterrey tasting room. A dear friend and I had the best time tasting, chatting, and experiencing superior customer service! After moving away for several years, in 2004 I returned to Half Moon Bay and once again rediscovered Bargetto. This time it was with my mom at the Main Street location in Soquel; the historical hub where the magic of superior winemaking happens! Nancy and Skip were so kind and so much fun as they poured their delicious wines, and created a relaxed but attentive experience and best of all, treated my mom like their own! Needless to say, I became a club member that day and have never regretted that decision. Over the years, I have brought family members, friends and out of town guests to the winery, for both tasting and to attend events, and have always experienced the same vibe of integrity and of course, OUTSTANDING wines and customer service! My husband and I now live in Chico, CA. We absolutely still LOVE everything about Bargetto! We just returned from a trip to the coast which always includes a stop at Bargetto (Soquel) to pick up our membership wine releases. We could have them shipped to our home... but why on earth would we miss the excuse to travel to coast and spend a lovely afternoon on the patio, overlooking Soquel Creek, chatting with staff (old and new) and of course, tasting all the latest creations Bargetto Winery has to offer? I highly recommend you give Bargetto Winery a try! Bargetto is off of a residential-esque dirt road in Soquel. I would never have guessed that this beautiful escape was located where it's at! Came on a lazy Monday afternoon with my friend in the industry, and we were totally in awe at how scenic this spot was. We saw one of her friends here while we tasted, and that made the experience more quaint. "How did you hear about this place?! Do you come here often?" Bargetto seems like a local's hidden gem. And I'm so glad we visited. As a pinot and malbec lover (with the occasional merlot or cab blend), I was looking forward to tasting their delicious pinots and the famous Nebbiolo! I absolutely loved their Tuxedo Red blend (yes, that is a cat on their label) as a easy drinking/affordable wine, and the La Vita for more special occasions. Their pinots (don't remember exactly which ones they had on tasting) were all pretty balanced, but I did prefer one over the other. For the whites, they weren't as memorable, but I love Viognier and absolutely went crazy for it. With service, our winetender was a bit cold at first, not really acknowledging us with open arms...but that changed slowly as we got to talking with him. I think the highlights of this place are their variety of wines, easy access to the tasting room, and YES that gorgeous deck view out back. Their tasting room is longer than it is wide, but I can see how they hold their space for weddings and big events. They also allowed us to nibble on our home-brought snacks while we tasted. Plus. My first time here I walked in on whim after 345pm and it showed the last tasting at 4pm. I expected to be told we would not be served but to my surprise cheryl was more than happy to give us a tasting. Cheryl was so informative and kind. Honestly Cheryl made the experience! My friend and I attend almost all of the outdoor summer events. They are fun; the music is great, the ambiance delightful and the wine good. I - and every other person with whom I've spoken who attends these music events -have one major complaint.... that we are let in only minutes before the performance. Many of us are seniors and it's difficult to stand outside waiting which is necessary if we are interested in getting particular seats. We have back issues, knee issues, hip issues, etc. I've heard that your sorry excuse is that people would overdrink and get rowdy. That's a bunch of malarky!! I go to other venues where I can enter whenever I get there and no one has ever become overly drunk and rowdy. People tend to know their capacity and will stop at that. This ISN'T a dowdy bar where that potentially happens. This is the ONLY winery or wine establishment that I've ever gone to that does this. You could have a little faith in people. read more

I love this place! It's peaceful and beautiful view. The staff is friendly and helpful. The gift shop is great! My very favorite wine is from there, their Pinot Grigio. It seems to be a bit stronger than other white wines I like. The only drawback for me is that there is very little indoor seating and sometimes it's too cold to sit outside. Weddings at Bargetto are just lovely. The venue was the perfect size for our October wedding with 100 guests. I wanted everything to be outdoors - ceremony, dinner, dancing - and this was the only place in Santa Cruz County where I could have it all at reasonable price. We had our ceremony on the terrace. While guests mingled in the *newly* expanded and completed barrel room for cocktail hour afterwards, the staff re-set the terrace with tables for dinner. After dinner, staff cleared away the head table and our guests danced under the garden lights strung across the patio. Lacey, the events manager, was super helpful and kind. Not only did she handle the paper work, billing, and coordination with our vendors well, Lacey also helped to smooth out some last minute concerns we had to make sure we felt confident. The owners are awesome, the men and women in the tasting room daily are nice folks, and the additional staff for our event were great too. You CAN host an upscale event in Santa Cruz County without having to sacrifice what you really want. Just call Bargetto. read more

The facility is very nice and off the beaten path so no big crowds and easy to find parking. The facility has inside and outside seating, a store, and event space. I like that it is right next to a river as well. The wine I was not very thrilled about. The only one I really enjoyed was their Chardonnay. I can see that their flagship wine the La Vita or something like that was stylistically good but a little too many tannins for me. I thought it was very cool that they make mead, it was decent. They do have public restrooms, the tasting was $15 each for 5 pours. Wine club members get it for free or if you spend at least $75.00 on wine. The price for just a glass of wine was super reasonable at $6-9 a glass. I would do that if I liked the wine more. read more

Came here with my dad a few times once for a wine and music night (pre Covid) and most recently to just hang out at a nice place to enjoy some wine with him and a friend. We checked out Bargetto on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The tasting room is fairly large and there is a wide range of wines. We used our Passport and did the regular tasting ($10 without passport), which gave us a choice of 5 out of the 7 wines. There were 2 whites, 4 reds, and a plum wine to choose from. I had the Pinot Grigio and he had the Chardonnay. After my white, I asked for all 4 of the reds. The guy helping us was very generous with his pours and gave an us an extra Pinot Noir that wasn't on the list. I have to say that I was not impressed by any of the wines. The were reasonably priced (~$20-30) but they were just not that great. Go for the friendly tasting if you're in the area but don't think this is going to be the best wine you've ever had. read more
