The experience sucked. Our server was self-centered, and had to know nothing to help us. She was useless not an ambassador for winery and where we were planning on making larger purchases we ended up buying one bottle and walking out. This is not good. We came across this tasting room while exploring Capitola. Unfortunately, our experience was overshadowed by how we were treated at the start of our tasting. The pourer was very rude and off-putting. I was recording a short video of my wine (not of him), and he immediately told me I wasn't allowed to film. I completely respect when businesses have no-photo or no-video policies but the way he approached and belittled me was unnecessary and left a really bad impression. The wine itself is worth a visit, we actually ended up purchasing multiple bottles and really enjoyed the actual tasting. It is one that will be remembered for a life time. Madeline and Christopher provided me and my partner with the most informative, special experience we have ever had with ANY customer service in our life. They were extremely personable, knowledgeable, kind and inclusive. It was so great that my partner and I couldn't stop talking about it for the next few hours. Really torn on this review. I visiting twice in one week. Christopher and the wine was AMAZING! Maddie (very sweet). However, there was another woman who clearly lied about being military and that broke my heart. she claimed to be prior, then claimed to be active duty. When trying to ask my boyfriend if he was active duty she asked about his life insurance not his duty station because she clearly didn't understand... It was also not so pleasant listening to the two tasting room attendants speak to you then turn around and speak behind your back in another language (on multiple occasions and with other guests as well). I am industry and they could've seen my discount on prior transactions but instead asked for my personal pay stubs... I feel Maddie and Christopher are truly great but Maddie seems to be influenced (not by choice) by the other woman who is there. Lying about military status is truly what made me NEVER want to go here again. I loved this wine but cannot support that. I also feel it's incredibly rude the woman saw a regular and proceeded to be on their phone (FaceTime) than tend to other customers. I had the day off finally, and decided I wanted an easy going day where I could catch up and do some work brainstorming and research, for future papers I would like to write as an academic. From the reviews, I don't know if my voice over the phone sounded "too young" for them to take me seriously or what. But, I called ahead of time to ask if they had a place to sit inside next to an outlet so I could "do some work." Verbatim, this is what I asked. Immediately the man over the phone met me with a rude "this is a tasting room, if you want to do work go to a Starbucks." Considering this is my day off, I wanted to enjoy it by leisurely doing some research at my own pace accompanied by a glass of wine. As a wine connoisseur and academic, this was very disappointing. I've done quite a bit of wine tasting as a California native, but this was the first tasting I've done where I left knowing just as much about their vineyard as I started. Next to nothing. Overall, weird experience listening to everyone receive the story and flavor profiles of the wines while we received an elevator pitch. Save your money and head to Sonoma. I love microwineries. It's a no-frills, about the wine, fabulous little spot amidst the center of multi-colored Capitola! Armida was our last stop in our wine adventure, and we were amused by their pirate/rocker vibes! Our winetender was a friendly and sweet tatted up man (I'm so sorry I forgot your name) who was fabulous in all senses of the service word. He was working the Monday closing shift, if that helps. We were so enthralled by many components of their store. From their huge open-window views, LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION right next to the quaint river, and of course their small but mighty selection of wines. I was in love with their pinots and surprisingly their Maple Vineyards Zin! All of their wines are made from grapes in the Sonoma/north of Napa area. That was funny to me because they were in the SC Mountains, which is also home to so many delicious grapes. I wasn't a fan of their PoiZin series, but hey I see why it has a consumerist pull with the cross and bones theme. I'll definitely come back to Armida. Their fabulous service, small-town-feel, yummy reds, and PURSE HOOKS definitely make it easy for me to find reasons to want to return. read more

Man, I've been a member here for years - how have I not written a review yet?? This place is awesome! They are the only wine tasting room in downtown Capitola, and boy, they could not get a better location! Set at the top of the main street through downtown, you can go out onto their patio and have an excellent view of the ocean and the canal. The staff is super friendly and helpful, and it doesn't hurt that their wine is delicious! I don't usually like white wine, but their Antidote is excellent - not too sweet or buttery. Perfect crisp, refreshing taste. Their signature red - the PoiZin - is also fantastic. The reserve is a must buy. I love how the bottles come in all different color schemes; they've done Giants colors, Raiders, Niners, and a pink sparkly one because, come on, who doesn't love pink sparkles? Recently, they had a rosé that was also quite tasty. Can't remember the name of that one. As far as cost, their wine is all very reasonably priced, and they run deals fairly often. Highly recommend the wine club and a visit to their Healdsburg location, as well. read more

Upon leaving the winery, the gentleman that collected my payment followed us outside and questioned whether we paid or not. I had to show him my receipt in order for him to believe we paid. Delightful afternoon at the Capitola tasting room with Christopher pouring our wines. I work in the industry and was pleased with the extra wine info he offered. While my favorites are big bold reds, my girlfriend needed to add some white to her collection. The Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc didn't last but 1 day in the cellar - it came out tonight for dinner. Crisp refreshing citrus delicious. I have to say the Syrah was the highlight - worth the wait as the last pour on the tasting. There was a fun couple in at the same time as us - regulars. Had a great time between us all. Okay, so a bit of good and not-so-good here. Firstly, LOVE the tasting room. Off the main road, it has a small balcony (alcohol not allowed outside) that overlooks the creek/river. Small and intimate, you can see view showcased Poizin line - beautifully etched skull-and-crossbone bottles in a coffin shelf. Service was very friendly and accommodating. Tasting room staff had a chatty guy who hailed from Ohio or Iowa or one of those states that Californians could never locate on a map. He loves his job and it shows. The wine, however, was lacking for me. I did the $3 tasting instead of the $5, my friend got the latter. So we were able to try both flights of five wines and were not that impressed. Both flights feature one white with four reds following. In the $3 flight, the syrah (forgot the name) had a distinct ocean aroma to it. I could have sworn it was kelp! Needless to say, it got poured back. You do get the tasting fee waived if you buy a bottle, but I found them to be a bit pricey for the caliber of wine. We stopped by after the capitola wine stroll for a tasting. The $20 fee is a bit high considering the pours are average size so we decided to share a tasting. The first 2 white wines we did not enjoy, too many tannins however the poizin zin was good. To be honest I couldn't differentiate too much between the reserve poizin. We ended up getting a bottle of the poizin as their label is unique and also the tasting fee is waived with a bottle so that was a plus. The service was good and they kept up on which wine we were tasting however not much description about the wine as they poured. Still a nice tasting room to visit if you are in capitola by the sea. My honey bought us a bottle of red Poizin and Antidote to celebrate our 7th anniversary which was last night. It's the best red wine I've ever had! So aromatic, smooth and just delicious. Since we had a seafood pasta dish for dinner, we waited until it was dessert time and had a glass with some chocolates. It was a perfect pairing. I can't wait to savor my next glass this evening! It's expensive but worth it. Can't wait to go back to try some more. The staff was very friendly and our pour lady had the cutest accent ever. The wines are definitely packaged for gift giving too. Some come in a casket. If you're in the area, Armida is a must stop in my opinion. The scenery is nice too. You can sit outside and enjoy it with a glass of vino! read more

My friends and I were looking for a place where we could go wine tasting and enjoy the beach, with only a few hours of daylight left. Ok, so we are not the best planners....but fortunately we found Armida's Capitola Wine Tasting Room! The wine tasting room is humble and casual. I don't think it would comfortably fit more than 25 people. However, the staff is very friendly and they are very generous with their pours. The staff didn't spend a lot of time describing each wine, but they gave us a lot of time to enjoy each glass. They have a $3 tasting and a $5 tasting. With both options, we were able to taste 5 different kinds of wine. And since my friend bought a bottle, they waived tasting fee. Most of the wines were not amazing, but some of them were pretty good. They also had leftover food from a party that they let us munch on for free! The best part is that it is right across the street from the beach, so you can play in the ocean after drinking too much wine... even if it happens to be November... ;-) read more

A realtor must have written their website which describes the small tasting room as "cozy" and "intimate". As for being "close to the ocean and has quite the view", there is a small balcony overlooking the bridge going over Soquel Creek. Senda and Angel were very nice... I had them write their names on the bag and it said, Senda Angel. Cool part of the downtown Capitola experience. As for the wines, they were good: the Stuhlmuller Cab (not on the tasting menu) was great, and as counterintuitive as it sounds, the Poizon was the most drinkable. read more

The wines were fine, okay but nothing stand outish. Other reviews have raved on the Poizin, but other than a clever name and label I don't see it. I love going to Capitola and visiting and picking up my wines from Armida. I have been a member for almost 7 years now and come twice a year to pick up and do some tastings. The experience I had this past Saturday has made decide to cancel my membership and never visit this tasting room again. Now this isn't the first rude experience by the same gentlemen but this is the one that made us leave and will never return. I made reservations for 2pm which state 50 min tasting , we had four tastings (20 mins) and decided we wanted to purchase two glasses of one of the wines. We inform the nice lady that was assisting us and then the gentleman with the long greasy hair says to us we aren't doing glasses of wine cause were to busy. Now mind you we had been there 20 mins of our 50 min reservation and also members, and wanted to BUY two glasses of wine (a sale) and he just snapped and said were too busy for glasses of wine. Now mind you they had two other parties there but one was a walk-in not a reservation. So we kindly asked the lady who was assisting us to bring us our pick ups (which she apologized twice for his remarks) and we tipped her nicely as it wants her fault he was rude and left. Wine tasting is an experience of enjoying and relaxing, the not nice gentlemen took that away from Armida and our business too. What a shame! read more

Armida's Poizin the wine to die for (right, it's a Zin!) is a great gift for any occasion. The tasting room in the village is quite popular. It has been a staple in Capitola for the longest time. The space is not huge but nicely appointed and welcoming. You can step in with your dog, just be careful so not to have his tail stepped on by happy patrons. There are some souvenirs to pick up, the usual tees, tanks, and hoodies, small decor and coasters, gift-packed bottles. We love their wine-filled chocolate bonbons and always get a box or two, they just don't last in our household. There are batches filled with Syrah or Pinot or merlot, depending on availability I suppose. They are manufactured up north in Sonoma. The tasting room on Stockton Ave is a fun place to stop by, whether you're up for tasting or not. BTW, the customary waving of tasting fee is offered with a $25 purchase. read more

The PoiZin packaging is just SO cute, especially the one with the pink skull. The wine is okay. It's not the greatest. Why 4 stars? I would give the wine itself 3 stars, but I think the tasting room experience is more than just the wine. Everyone that works here is super friendly (well, at least the two people I've encountered). They are very generous with the pours. The tastings are $3 or $5 depending on which wines you choose. We did the $5 tasting and got more than 7 tastes. It's just a fun place to hang out, sip wine, and chat with strangers and get recommendations for places to have dinner. When I came here in the spring, I met all these adorable twenty-somethings that invited me out to a wine bar. I had to decline the invitation because I already had too much wine here! We also met Santa Claus when we were here! My friend and I were craving chocolate with our wine, so when the craving was articulated, this friendly patron resembling Santa said, "Well, it's Christmas, so your wishes should come true." Then, the woman behind the counter procured wine filled chocolate for us! In actuality, I've been to quite a few wine tasting venues and have had way better service. All the server did was pour the wine and left. He didn't pause to answer any questions, he pretty much left us with our wine to talk to the people closer to his age. We barely got any description at all on the wines. I was definitely impressed with the wine.....but it wasn't the biggest surprise, after (1) being in Lodi for the past weekend and hating the wine and the people pouring and (2) the wine was from the Russian River!!! Russian River wine is the best! [and] the two guys behind the counter were pretty personable.....until........one of the guys had a group of friends roll through and proceeded to ignore everyone else while the other guy became shy and just stood back. Fun little spot if you want to do a little wine tasting while in Capitola. The tasting room is a modest size but has a great location right on the water canal and amidst a ton of foot traffic. Tasting will run you $3 or $5 and if you're lucky, the attendant will slip you an extra taste or two. Tasting fees are also waved if you buy a bottle.
