a variety of wines
Anna A.

Hello, my fellow winos. Do you like wine produced in small batches (only 1000 cases a year)? Do you like wine made by someone who doesn't make wine for a living, just for a passion (who I had the privilege of meeting and getting all my tastes poured by)? The owner is in fact, a chemistry professor at UC Santa Cruz and also teaches an intro to wine and wine chemistry class. Sign me up! The tasting room, in all its chaotic glory, is in the same warehouse where they make the wine and the owner even pulled out his wine IQ game during the tasting to check our level of competence. It was an educational experience as well as a supreme tasting. The wines: 2007 Chardonnay, Dry Creek Valley, Kreck Vineyard: Not a big fan of whites, but this chard was really impressive. It didnt have any buttery taste, but a nice toasty feel to it. 2007 Gewurztraminer - Monterey, Rio Del Vista Vineyard: a really lovely smell, like roses and something tropical, but not slightly dry and acidic to taste. 2007 Pinot Noir , Santa Rita Hills, Babcock Vineyard: This is one of their best wines, and of course most expensive at $45 a bottle. Nice berry luscious flavor, beautiful color and quite silky going down. 2006 Pinot Noir, Santa Lucia Highlands, Sleepy Hollow Vineyard: When I see something this light in color I usually run the other way, but I stuck with it and had a taste - it was a lovely fig induced splash of color with exponential food friendliness potential. Raspberry wine: throw some semi sweet chocolate chips and stick a knife in me and I'm RIP with a smile. I don't know how they captured that fresh raspberry taste, but they done good. WOW. And with chocolate together? WOWNESS maxed out.

Small place but good wines. Our wine pourer was awesome. Not sure what his name was. The guy with the cool hair.

That day was also beautiful and we decided to take a long drive on that afternoon to have a wine tasting at Beauregard. Yesterday, we entered the tasting room and it was packed! The winemaker, Ryan, was there and was talking to the guests and pouring wines. It's always nice to see and owner/ winemaker in the tasting room interacting with the guests. It also felt very special because California tortoise shell butterflies were all over the area. No one quite knows why they are here, but they are gracing the area with their presence. And it's beautiful. The wines at Beauregard are better than I remembered them. They were excellent and I highly recommend a stop at this tasting room. I do not think you will be disappointed.

A Mountaintop Sanctuary for Fine Wine & Good Times…read more We spent another unforgettable evening at Wrights Station for their latest wine release party! Having been members for a couple of years--and frequenting the tasting room long before that--we can confidently say this place never loses its magic. Perched high in the mountains, the tasting room captures that perfectly cozy farmhouse charm paired with breathtaking views. It's the ultimate spot to unplug, unwind, and sip your way through a flight or a few excellent glasses. Dan, his wife, and the entire team are always the heart of the experience--consistently warm, welcoming, and an absolute joy to chat with. This weekend came with an extra special treat: a sneak peek at next year's Sangiovese! Getting a firsthand look at the grapes mid-fermentation was such a unique insight into their craft. The paired bites were equally outstanding, with the beef Wellington taking the crown as our absolute favorite. Whether you're planning a big group gathering, a family afternoon, or a relaxed date with your favorite person, Wrights Station always delivers. Best of all? It's completely pup-friendly. Our dogs are always greeted like family by the staff every time they tag along. If you haven't visited yet, put it at the top of your list--you won't be disappointed!

I think reservations are required these days, but they're very easy to do online. The seating is in a nice outdoor area in the redwoods overlooking the ocean. A great setting and all of the wines we tried were good as well. Grapes aren't grown on site but are mostly sourced locally which is cool. We enjoyed everything so we were happy to purchase a few bottles. To sweeten the pot they apply your tasting fee to bottle purchase. It's really a no brainier to leave with a wine or two. They're priced pretty reasonably and it's nice supporting a local wine maker.

Made us feel a little unwelcome. Then towards then end I'm not sure if we've been spoiled by every other vineyard but she didn't ask if we wanted to re visit any of the wines we tried. Was only asked if we would like to purchase any bottles. We asked if we could try a wine that wasn't on the flight and unfortunately they didn't have an open one. No worries but still wasn't offered anything else. Was a very relaxing experience would maybe come back it's just minor details. Overall had a fine time. To sum it up quickly the wine overall was I'd say a 7.5 out of 10. Some good, others were a bit mute but not bad.
