Poor caulking job failed after just a few weeks.
    Chris T.

Pros: Service Plus was the only company to make a good faith effort to accommodate a unique situation where several other plumbing companies simply ignored me. Some of the plumbing work was well done. Cons: Two of three toilet resets ended with wobbly toilets. They failed to strip old caulk around a tub before re-caulking, resulting in peeling and curling. They disconnected the fill tube in one of my toilets for no apparent reason, leading to fill issues after flushing. They failed to address my initial concern of wet floor grout, selling me unnecessary toilet resets with assurances that would fix the problem. On a return visit (a sales opportunity by another name), I was supposed to get a water heater flush but the technician was afraid to break the relief valve and made me sign a waiver acknowledging he would not perform the flush. He also told me if he broke it, he'd do nothing to fix it until Monday. Instead, he tried talking me into buying a new water heater for over $7,000. He gave me a ridiculous story about water heaters being like old cars. He also told me another customer agreed to an $18,000 plumbing job that day, and I'm still not sure what that has to do with me other than attempting to exert sales pressure. He tried to sell me a set of water shutoff valves after failing to properly test the installed valves. He quoted me for work that I did not want. He refused to address concerns about the tub caulk (claimed caulk goes bad too quickly to keep a tube of it with him), refused to address concerns about the moisture in the floor grout, refused to address concerns about one of the wobbly toilets (tried to tell me the wax ring they installed in August expanded after they installed it because of the cold August weather, causing the toilets to become loose; told me he could not use a toilet shim and that I'd have to have my floors leveled to fix the wobble), and told me to talk to his manager if I wanted any follow-up work. He told me someone would be in touch with me the next business day. No one called. After waiting a few days for a return call, I called Service Plus myself. They would not put me in touch with the manager and said he would contact me. After no contact I followed up again. The manager sent me an email that went to my spam folder. He didn't seem either informed or concerned about the multiple problems from the two previous plumbing visits. I explained the situation in detail and he never responded. I got a call from dispatch to schedule a visit but they did not know why we were scheduling it. I did schedule, but the technician was a no-call, no-show on the scheduled day. Fortunately most of these problems were minor things that I learned how to fix myself, and nothing of major complication needed attention. Still, $10 worth of caulk, a $5 wax ring, a $1 toilet shim, and an hour or two of someone's time is a strange hill to die on to avoid keeping a happy customer. Too bad.

Heat exchanger - ZERO rust found despite the Service Plus analysis.
    Brandon L.

We recently signed up with Service Plus to conduct yearly systematic maintenance on our HVAC system. Despite the fact that this was our first year with this company, our equipment had been regularly maintained without issue for a few years prior. On the day of the appointment, I was at work, but my wife was home to allow service tech Eric Jones into the house to conduct his service check of our 5-year old furnace. To my surprise, my wife called me at work following his hour-long inspection only to be told that we had "some serious issues" with our furnace. In speaking with Eric Jones over the phone, I learned that our heat exchanger was completely "rusted out," which in turn was causing an increase of exactly 32% to our utility bill, according to his report. When I later asked how he arrived at this specific figure, I was told it was a very precise calculation. Yeah right. Nevertheless, I was told the system was "unsafe for operation" and it was time to look at upgrade options with one of their "comfort advisors." Let me remind you....this unit is 5 years old. The company quickly sent out a sales rep later that day to try and push the sale of a new $18,000 system, because accordingly, we were gambling without quickly replacing both the furnace and the a/c unit simultaneously. Relying on my intuitions though, we brought in three additional HVAC companies following Eric Jones' evaluation to confirm what we were being told. And to no surprise, those intuitions were quickly confirmed via thorough inspection. The surface rust, which I learned is not at all uncommon, was strictly on the faceplate of the heat exchanger.....NOT on the heat exchanger itself (see attached photos). The faceplate has zero bearing on the operation of the furnace. To our relief, our unit has since been deemed completely safe and in perfect working order. If Eric Jones was truly concerned, he would've taken the additional 5 minutes to actually disassemble the area of concern to inspect further. Instead, we were conveniently lied to in hopes of making the quick sale of a completely unnecessary piece of equipment. I have always been a firm believer in honesty and integrity, and what we received from Service Plus was anything but. Since our experience with Eric Jones, we have terminated all ties with the company and I am awaiting a return call from a manager. While I listened to my gut and avoided the pushy scare tactics and complete waste of over $10,000, I know that not all of their customers will be so lucky. ALWAYS get a second opinion and at the very least, do yourself a favor and AVOID SERVICE PLUS!

No more AC at our house 7-29-22
    Jennifer W.

Updated 7-30-22: service manager Chad brought us a portable cooling unit today and has expedited our repair. Very relieved and grateful! It's 11:30pm and 80 degrees in our house. The tech who came out earlier to replace the coil in our AC system said he was given the wrong part. But he didn't replace the original coil or reconnect the lines. So the AC that was barely working before isn't working at all now. It's so hot in the house my kids & I can't sleep. About an hour ago my 17yo said "I'm out of here!" And went to spend the night with a teammate. No return calls from the 2 calls I made to Service Plus tonight though 2 women took my msgs & sounded sympathetic. The women who answer phones during the day are kind and professional too, bless them. I've seen 7 or 8 techs over the months I've dealt with Service Plus to get them to repair or replace the incorrect pump their sales rep sold me and their tech installed. Now the owner wants to blame the HVAC company that installed the furnace in 2020. If it was "wrong coil" in 2020 why did their sales rep & tech install an incompatible heat pump in 2021??? All the techs I've met were also thoughtful and polite, even when I was so mad by another useless visit I was on the verge of tears. But the techs couldn't help me.

Using our tub during the replumb.

Lack of customer service is disappointing. I would never use or recommend Service Plus again. I have a text from Mark Fite with the company stating the owner would reach out to me in a few business days. That text was from June 2 and the owner has not reached out to me.

Service Plus - DO NOT USE! This has to be the most inept company I have ever dealt with! They hire young folks who have NO experience (see pics). They have damaged my roof with his aggressive ways of ripping the old unit out and putting the new one in. I have been without A/C two or three times since it was installed. Please do research before you hire companies.....lesson learned for me. Don't let this happen to you! This is a hole they put in my roof...see the light? Look at that wiring.....not even up to code, nothing is in junction boxes. The case around the wire is already shredded off, which will cause a fire or destroy the unit! You can see water damage from inept employees destroying my home. They let me use a portable ac unit (this time) and it has dripped all over my flooring! The headache has been going strong for over a month now! They need to change their name to service minus. Anyone else deal with these clowns? Did you get resolution? Please share. Get this........now they are trying to sell me a $6k tankless water heater! My water heater is less than 9 months old! Please use a reputable company that doesn't sell you a $10k paper weight then leave you in the heat. There have been numerous techs sent out to see what's wrong but nobody said anything about this botched wiring until I said it looks not up to code! Then they said, yes it is not wired correctly. So nobody was going to fix this until I mentioned it! Very poor training and very poor company. I have asked for the owner to contact me twice, with no response. Just goes to show this company only cares about screwing the customer! Please let your neighbors know about the poor quality of this company so they do not get ripped off!

When our furnace stopped working on Friday, my wife made the call to Service Plus. They have serviced our systems since we moved here and we were always satisfied with their work. Service Plus sent their technician, Joshua, to diagnose the problem. He did a thorough inspection, but needless to say, the prognosis was not good for the 18yr old furnace. Brandon, the Comfort Specialist, was sent to followed up as we weighed whether to fix the old 80% efficiency or get a replacement. Brandon explained our options for a new furnace and the price was right. Next came a delivery of portable heaters to use over the weekend. The installation on Monday was performed by lead team member Chris and his tall (lol) assistant, Brad. The crew did a great job! Always careful and clean and answered any questions along the way. Our home was warm in no time. What a wonderful feeling! I have no doubt who I would recommend to others looking for a HVAC company to get it done right! Thank you Team Service Plus!!!

This is horrible business practice, and I will no longer be doing business with Plumbing Heating Paramedics. This company promotes pulling a fast one on their customers, as Wayne the tech mentioned to me he knows the part is very inexpensive, yet still chooses to work for this company, and then was attempting to force his religeon on me by saying I would be finding Jesus some day. A technician came out and inspected it. He said he needed to turn water off to the whole house but probably would run into a problem with the shut off valve, and recommended that be replaced also. The total bill was going to be almost $1000. I wanted to think about it so paid him $85 for a service call and told him I would get back to him in a few days. In the meantime I spoke with a friend who has some plumbing knowledge and he told me how to make the repair. I didn't need to shut off the water at all. It cost me less than $6 and took about 5 minutes. I definitely feel I this technician was trying to swindle me. I called the owner and asked to speak with him to give him a chance to rectify the situation, but after leaving a message because he wasn't available never got a return call. I would avoid these people because now I sincerely questioned their honesty and/or competency.

The furnace tech diagnosed the furnace as needing at least a new control board and couldn't be sure other parts weren't bad. The furnace was full of ice. Everyone from Chapman was clean, courteous and did great work. It wasn't cheap for any of this, but we feel that the prices were reasonable, especially since we were 100% done the very next day.

This time around, I've gotten the chance to try out Chapman to address some electrical issues in the house. Truthfully, I wasn't aware that Chapman handled electrical. I'd begun having some significant electrical issues a couple weeks before Thanksgiving. I called another company that I'd used for a smaller project with good results. They came over and did some minor adjustments, however, they noted there were significant issues and planned to send me an estimate. They did let me know this "fix" was more like a band-aid and the significant work was inevitable. It was less than a day when the "band-aid" stopped working. I waited a bit anticipating their estimate, though also disappointed that they'd done such a weak fix. Finally, things got WAY worse. It was shortly before Thanksgiving and the situation was urgent. I left a message for Chapman anticipating that I was likely out of luck for the holiday weekend. My general sense was that was their plan, too. However, I think the rep (I believe her name was Hannah) heard the panic in my voice and I explained my situation. She arranged for a technician to visit the house the next day. This tech did agree that the issue was serious and warranted a few major repairs. He explained it well and explained my options. To be honest, I'm usually quite cheap. However, when he gave me two options I went with the more expensive option as I really wanted to make sure the fix was done properly. I was tired of band-aids. They used my initial service call as a down payment and the electrician, Rodney as I recall, scheduled it and made sure he would be the electrician for the project (NOTE: In reality, this ended up being a 2-3 person job). The only slight hiccup was that I'd been told they'd arrive at 8am. In reality, I called them at 10am and learned they were having trouble finding one needed part. That was fine, though I should have been called. Around 11:15, and somewhat surprisingly, they arrived and dug in. Seven hours later? They were done. I was particularly touched by a neat gesture - I'm a wheelchair user. In their estimate, the electrician had written that he'd be putting my new panel in at wheelchair height. This wasn't something I asked for particularly, however, it was a pretty cool gesture recognizing my needs. Rodney explained everything and was entirely work focused. He completed the work as promised and the cost was exactly as quoted. He explained a couple other concerns - including one that wouldn't be a Chapman issue, however, he explained how it could impact the electric. I've now had Chapman work on my furnace and my electric. Are they more expensive? Yeah, I'd say so. If you're looking for a budget electrician, Chapman probably isn't that. However, in all three visits the work has been done and done well. They've avoided band-aids and actually fixed issues. Their quotes have been accurate. The employees have been professional. With the exception of today's tardiness, the experiences have all been impeccable. Truthfully, I should have likely called Chapman first. While I may not call them for smaller issues, the truth is for me it's worth a bit more to get the work done right. The work is warrantied and I now have a system that should last for years and is also accessible. That other company? I still don't have their estimate. Chapman wins.

I treat each company that comes out with respect; we discuss the various aspects of the job and how the job will be performed. Ultimately, we end up in salary (project cost) discussions. COMMUNICATION Wyatt and Son's was incredibly impressive. I used the Yelp projects system, and communication was seamless. JOB REQUIREMENTS 1. Replace a Bradford 50g water heater (leaking from the top) 2. Replace a Kenmore water softener that was 15 years old. 3. Fix a 40' run of 2.5" kitchen sink pipe detached from the ceiling due to the strap cables, held in by nails, used by the original installers. It wasn't draining anymore and was full of gunk. TECHNICAL INTERACTIONS I'm an incredibly technical person and engineer. I research everything from plumbing, electrical, carpet, etc. I like to know how things are installed and how they work for the simple fact of educating myself to get the best use out of everything. Barry and his son answered every question, and I never felt disrespected. While Barry has an opinion on specific equipment, which people should have, he walked me through the "whys" of arriving at his conclusion. Barry's approach demonstrated his openness to educating others and learning himself. I appreciated our time. PRICE Wyatt & Son's Plumbing price is incredibly competitive. There are a couple of things I look at: 1. How much am I paying for parts? 2. How much am I paying for labor? Parts are a commodity. You can find every price for every item online. I'm not a fan of companies who mark up their prices. I have to pay sales tax on parts, and every dollar added is more money out of my pocket on taxes. FINAL DECISION The decision came down to Wyatt and Son's Plumbing and another company. Nothing is worse than telling a fantastic candidate/company they won't receive the job. I had no joy in sending the message to Barry, and still, as of writing this review, I'd have Barry out in a heartbeat to quote the next job; there will always be another. TO THE READER Wyatt & Son's Plumbing must be a part of your quoting process. Their professionalism is top-notch, their interactions and knowledge are excellent, and their pricing is incredibly competitive, way cheaper than the large companies. TO BARRY Thank you again for coming to the house and participating in the process. The final decision was incredibly difficult. I hope this review becomes a cornerstone of continuing to send business your way. Wyatt & Son's Plumbing should be a part of everyone's selection process. I'll be passing referrals your way as they come along.
