Astro Illinois (Appliance) Services in Lake Zurich was assigned by our home warranty provider, American Home Shield/AHS, to diagnose & fix the sudden failure of the freezer section of our Sub-Zero kitchen refrigerator. First diagnostic visit required 2+ hours, lasting from late afternoon 'til early evening, and they found a leaking Freon line. After getting approval from AHS the next day, they returned to do the fix--again requiring a 2-hour afternoon/evening visit--but in the process discovered the compressor unit had also failed! Another next-day repair approval from AHS led to a third visit to replace the compressor, this one taking from 5pm to ~8:30pm. While some might see this episode as frustrating, we appreciate and applaud Astro Illinois Services' dedication to investigating serious problem(s) thoroughly and taking whatever time is required to get things back to working as they should.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. First of all the technician who came to look at my…read morefaulty dishwasher didn't speak a lick of English. It was borderline impossible to have an intelligent conversation about the issue and potential fix. It was through my home warranty so I didn't have a choice but when I asked for a different technician to come they still sent the same guy. Even when I showed him VIDEO of the issue happening in real time it was like talking to a wall. He gave me some BS about it being fine, AFTER SHOWING HIM THE VIDEO. Not only that but they supposedly ordered a new part and he didn't even install it because he was there for 3 minutes and said "is no leak" even though I tried to explain to him that it happens at the end of the cycle. So now I had to call and demand a new company completely to come through my warranty provider because it's been over 5 weeks of the same back and forth. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY unless you happen to speak whatever language they speak. If I owed a company in France, I would expect all my employees to be able to speak French. How you think you can do business in a country you don't speak the language is beyond me I promise you all these 5-star reviews were purchased. There's no way they earned them

Our air conditioner has been broken for nearly a month at this point. Now we have a GE Zoneline air…read moreconditioning system rather than central air, but we still would have appreciated the same level of service those with central air have reported seeing here. When it first broke my boyfriend contacted a local HVAC guy who's van we'd seen in the neighborhood, but he kept canceling/rescheduling appointments so I contacted JPRO based on the nice reviews they have here. James was busy so he sent Ben to take a look at our system. Ben showed up on time and diagnosed the problem, was unable to fix it that day but charged us the $75 service call charge and promised to get back to me the following business day to discuss the next steps. And then we never heard from him again. I left voicemails and called and he never returned any. Eventually I called James again who told me that he thought the issue was resolved and promised to follow up with either personally or have Ben call me back within the next few days and again I heard nothing. At this point I've taken the situation into my own hands and contacted a third HVAC guy. Luckily enough the third one was honest and helpful.

I recently had James replace more or less my entire HVAC system at my townhome. I had an old…read moreApollo Hydroheat unit (a hot water heater that also provides heat for the house) that broke, and rather than get a replacement unit, I decided it was time for a conversion to a standard furnace / hot water heater. And while my air conditioner wasn't technically "broken", it had never worked very well, so I decided to get it replaced at the same time. I got no less than 5 estimates from other HVAC places in the area, and all of them seemed way too expensive. I knew it was a big project, but even so... we have this thing called the "Internet" these days where it's not too hard to look up the actual wholesale prices on HVAC equipment, and nonetheless, even taking out labor costs, all of the estimates I'd received were marking up the furnace by 200-300%. I'd almost given up and resigned myself to paying a ridiculous markup, but figured I'd try just one more estimate and called James - who, it turns out, is completely upfront and honest about exactly how much the equipment really costs and ended up saving me a _ton_ of money. He's also great at communication - any time I had a question while I was away, I could just send a text message or email and get a response back within a few minutes at most. So I'm somewhat mystified at Dana B.'s experience given my own - all I can say is mine was great. And, most importantly, my new furnace (a 95% AFUE unit) & AC work great and are a huuuuge improvement over my old junky Hydroheat system. James is now my go-to guy for anything HVAC-related in the future.

Hugo Lopez, the technician (pleasant fellow), who came was very knowledgeable and thorough, offering some alternatives on a couple of minor issues, and GENTLY encouraging me to pay attention to changing my air filters. As far as the crapped out thermostat went he got around that problem with a jumper and had a replacement with him on the truck. I passed on that $120 one since I'm planning to upgrade to either Nest or Honeywell smart thermostats in downstairs, upstairs and in the garage. It's been cool so I can use his jumper trick if I need to get things cooled off upstairs. The price was reasonable for his 3 hours of work. I'll be calling them again................ If I have a REALLY bad experience I make sure to post it so others are warned in advance.)

We have been using Fricold for about 2-3 years now and have been very pleased with their services…read more We first found Fricold when our furnace broke a couple of winters ago. Another heating company in the area came out to look at it and told us that the furnace required a new part that was not available anywhere in the Chicagoland area. (which was just a lie to try to get us to buy a new furnace from them instead) Wanting another opinion, we called Fricold. The serviceman came within the hour and fixed our furnace quickly, apparently having no problem finding the part needed. That furnace is still working fine today. Since then, we have used Fricold for our regular HVAC cleaning and maintenance. In addition to providing good, honest services, they are always very courteous. They also take their shoes off (or put covers over their work shoes) before entering the house, which I appreciate.
