Moss and lichen were everywhere, as was debris from several large fir, cedar and other trees around my home. I asked John Mayes of Seattle Super Softwashing to tackle the roof to begin with, because his bid was a bit lower than other services I had contacted. But the longer I watched his work, his concern for quality and thoroughness, his communication with me as he completed things and his commitment to doing more and better work than I expected, the more I asked him to do. Before he left, we'd agreed on his doing the gutters, eaves, house sides, windows, paver paths and more. When he was finished, there was still a bit of moss and some lichen spots on the roof and elsewhere. He assured me they'd disappear in time. He said he'd return if anything grew back within the next year. That was 18 months ago. Nearly everything is gone now, including the many white spots that had been lichen on my 30+ year old concrete tile roof. I had John back to my home a few weeks ago to soft wash some fences. I want to repaint one, and now that he's soft washed it, all the organic matter seems gone, as does the loose paint. So I am set to prime and paint it with no further prep. The other fence he did looks almost newly painted except for a few spots badly stained. I don't need to repaint that one as I thought I might have to. I have not seen damage to plants from John's work, though I am no gardener and don't have lots of sensitive plants near the areas he's worked. John can be more engaging, more talkative, and more energetic than I've found to be the norm for home maintenance people. And he had some scheduling challenges coming to my home that is outside his normal service area. But he always did more than we contracted for. His prices were lower than other softwashing companies and he followed up to be sure his work was as complete, thorough and effective as he promised. I will hire him again.

Finding a qualified contractor, experienced in stamped concrete, and willing to travel to Allyn can be challenging. Contractors who specialize in this type of work are typically concentrated around Seattle. Joe Derouin personally came to our home to bid the project and spent considerable time discussing our vision and the challenges of the slope, grading, propane fire pit placement and water movement. As the son of a contractor, my husband learned most of the construction trades at an early age and has high expectations when hiring contractors. We tackle most project ourselves and understand material and labor costs. Derouin was the second contractor to bid our project and was very reasonable for the scope of this project. The vision for our project was to convert a tired, sloping golf cart path, block fire pit area and sad block wall to a stamped concrete patio, seat wall and walkway. There were several challenges with this project - connecting the parking pad to the walkways, replacing a side door landing and stairs, balancing the fire pit patio with the new deck stairs and connecting to the lower covered patio. We were fortunate to have the week slated for our job to be dry and were able to complete the project on time and on budget. As other reviewers have stated, Joe and his crew are the best! They are very hard working, enjoy their craft and are very polite and personable. They were always courteous about parking and moving vehicles when needed and did not impede on our daily lives. We were given a very clear bid for the work for a really reasonable price so we sent in our deposit and hoped for the best. And we were in no way disappointed. From the first day to the last Richard, Jason, and Jessica gave us frequent updates for what to expect, supply delays (these were not their fault but the result of Covid delays nationwide), and crew schedules. And then we were assigned the most amazing crew of guys we could have ever hoped for. John and Dennis were our regulars but a few others joined from time to time and they were absolutely lovely to work with! I have a two year old son who at first was terrified by all the new sounds so I took him outside so he could see the men working. They all stopped what they were doing to reassure my kiddo that everything was okay, they showed him their tools, and even a few magic tricks. And every day they made sure that my son smiled and laughed. And their work ethic was amazing! They worked despite some really nasty weather days and always made sure we knew exactly what they were going to do each day and what to expect the next day. And then there were the subcontractors who were also all equally incredible from the guys who repaired the gutters, to the roofers, and the dry waller who made our damaged walls look brand new. Our house is 20+ years old and now looks nearly brand new! Our sun room now has two brand new skylights (one even opens!) and a large sliding glass door, and our bathroom now has a brand new modern window (the old one was this weird window skylight combo that acted like a waterfall whenever it rained) not to mention dozens of smaller improvements all over the house. They did not perform any work for me…read more I put an inquire on yelp in search of a GC for a single family new construction, that sent out to multiple businesses. They were one of the first to reply and set up a consultation. I set up an appointment. Received a phone call that I missed. I called them right back and a man answered rudely asking why I was calling... I politely explained I was returning their phone call and he still questioned me as why I was calling, short tempered. They were very specific to need to meet at my residency and needing my address apparently to meet but I was fine with meeting them at a close destination. They arrived on time, and I quickly realized the man I spoke to on the phone that was very rude was the guy that was pitching that he would be the GC of our job. He was persistent that he wanted to speak to my husband, as if I am not capable of making a decision if they are someone we would like to hire. I feel like he was overselling his capabilities of doing our job and he walked into that consultation as of needing to show me he was the boss. I need a GC that's capable of communication and fulfilling the job. Their tactic was very skeptical. I will give it to them, that they were quick to try to pick up a job, and they arrived on time and I was able to have a cordial short conversation with them to know they were not going to be our general contractor. He gave me a ball park bid. The price was higher than what I felt they were capable of, and higher than most other contractors. They also claimed they had a reputation with the local banks, but they wanted us to be the dealer. Maybe good for small out of pocket jobs??? But definitely not new construction builds that may require a lender, unless you are doing an owner build. Overall, based on my brief experience with them. Don't waist your time or money. Lack of trust in their ability to complete a job smoothly. This review is based off their communication skills.
