Vanhousing Painters - Meet the owner of Vanhousing Painters

    Vanhousing Painters

My company used Vanhousing to do some upgrades to our retail showroom. I had three bidders come…read morelook at the work. Vanhousing's estimator showed up on time, asked good questions, wasn't pushy, and seemed to legitimately care about understanding the scope and what we were looking to achieve. Their bid was competitive and I had a good deal of faith in their ability to provide a great experience given what I'd read in other reviews. Vlad and his team ended up having to work through a multitude of challenges in order to deliver the end result that we enjoyed. I received constant professional communication (day, night, weekend) when things weren't going well (outside of their control) and what they were doing to resolve. They thoroughly owned resolving each obstacle instead of pushing it back to me to work out. This involved buying different kinds of paint and performing tests -- I even got a video of the test results to illustrate my options. Its obvious that this company cares a great deal about providing 5 star experiences. Its that additional amount of work that they did which has me so enthusiastic about referring them to anyone needing painting done (commercial or residential.)

Vanhousing Painters did a great job! They gave us a competitive quote and they were really flexible about the start date for the project. They were easy to communicate with, sent updates at the end of each day sometimes with photos/videos, and they were able to finish almost a full day ahead of schedule. They hung our doors back up with new hardware which we decided to add last minute. During the final walkthrough they fixed everything that needed touching up and left our place as clean as can be expected. There was overspray on one wall that we didn't have the paint for and they came back within a week of the project concluding to paint it for us and make it right. We really appreciate all the hard work!!

After going through a few estimates, we decided to move forward with Miguel's Painting…read more We recently got drywall repair which was completed from another company. Unfortunately, the drywall repair wasn't to our liking. We hired Miguel to complete the drywall repair and to paint the ceiling afterwards so it matches. Overall, the painting was 10/10. The repair that Miguel completed was a lot better than before. Prior to finishing up the initial painting, Miguel had agreed to come back if we saw an issue with the drywall after the paint was dry. After pointing out an issue with the drywall to him via text, he agreed that some additional work was needed and was willing to come back to get it done the following Monday. After trying to confirm with him if he was still coming on Monday, he pretty much ghosted me and did not respond to my message. I tried following up 2x but no response. Overall, the painting was 10/10. Would I feel comfortable hiring him again? Probably not. If you see something that you're not 100% satisfiedyou run the risk of being ghosted by Miguel if you asked him to come back.

I really thought this was the company to go with with all the great reviews. The owner came to give…read morethe estimate and he seemed knowledgeable and friendly enough. He sent a estimate that had a final price at the bottom. I agreed and the work began after a few week wait period we agreed upon. 1st guy was the pressure washer. Now I understand in order to pressure wash some water can get in places like the garage door and around openings so when I pressure wash my home I am careful. Not this guy water is all over the place most dried ok but the basement laminate flooring absorbed the moisture and now I have a wavy floor next to the door due to the water intrusion. Not to mention paint chips are everywhere now. This was just the pressure washer. When the painters came some of the paint chips were cleaned up but not very well, they brought multiple cars leaving no parking for us when we got home, when asked to be moved he just nodded his head (honestly I don't think he spoke English), they did cover plants and areas around with plastic but left tape and pieces of plastic all over, I was told all gaps and holes would be caulked in the estimate and the bees going into the siding proves that wasn't true and the thing that bothered me the most was the guys walking through the patch of grass I was trying to seed. That was the painting. Then time came for the bill. He sent me one that was more than the original. He also only wanted cash which I don't do. I explained WA state law that you cannot charge more than 10% or $100 than a original estimate so he lowered his bill then I offered my card and he said they don't accept card. Not even debit card which there are still some contractors that don't but they usually tell you at the beginning of the job or have it on the estimate cash or check only which he did not. We ended up paying check and finally have this whole ordeal behind us. I am unsure how this guy has so many 5 star reviews maybe my situation was a fluke thing he was very busy, maybe his workers were overwhelmed or not his regular workers I don't know but my experience was not a 5 star and felt obligated to share my experience.

He and his family/crew were thoughtful and efficient. We think their price was fair, as well. TIME-LINE: From our first exchange to completion---just over 2 weeks. The high ceiling in our front room had some damage in the seams. They completely covered everything in the room with plastic or cardboard and then caulked, patched, textured, and sanded. They purchased the brand and color of paint I wanted and after two coats, the whole ceiling looks wonderful! YELP BID Backstory: Getting bids through Yelp was SLICK! I filled out a short questionnaire about the job, selected a company to ask, and Yelp sent it to them AND 2 other businesses. So, it was a 3 for 1. I wish I could have personally selected ALL of them (based on reviews, of course) ... but at least they were local. It only took a couple of minutes to send bid requests with my specs to 9 companies; I received 9 replies almost immediately! By the time I was done listing their names on scratch paper, I had most of their replies. Most companies declined the job, but that's their prerogative. We would hire Jero's Painting again, any day.

This was a nightmare experience. I hope my review can help others in the future decide and help the…read morecompany improve. Melvin was very nice and I believe there are good intentions, but with my house he bit off more than he could chew and he was caught up with trying to make as much money as possible by spreading himself too thin and not giving his painters mentorship. Quality: His workers were inexperienced and had little oversight / mentorship (which isn't their fault) and did extremely low quality work. After doing little prep, Fabio (his father in law) started painting right away. As an older home with pealing paint, the initial coat failed in the 3 hours after it was applied with significant bubbling and pealing. I showed this to Fabio and he said that "normally" happens and that anyway my house is old and I'd have to paint again in a couple years (!!!). After raising my concerns, Melvin assured me he would be there everyday to do the work, but he too displayed incompetency by grinding down my cedar siding (it is an older home and he grinded and sanded aggressively - note the wavy bottoms and the chunks that were repaired from the grinder). Melvin was only there a few days before he left me again with only inexperienced painters with no oversight. One of the important tasks in the job was to recaulk the window panes before painting (antique wooden frames on a historic home). The caulking was either totally failing, not done at all or had issues - not one window was done correctly and in some cases is worse than before they began. The contract said 2 coats on the body, trim, fascia, and soffits. There definitely is not 2 coats on most of it, which I suspected, but an experienced professional painter immediately noticed. Cleanup: He totally trampled one flower bed - and left copious paint chips in the bed. Destroyed a garden hose and then denied it (even though it had been fine before them - and fine the morning that I left). There is paint on the wooden front and back porch, paint on the window panes (in the middle of the pane, not just the edges). I asked him to come review the job on the final day (Saturday) and I would meet him the following Monday after I reviewed the work on my own. Melvin did not show up and instead his workers took the equipment away. He only seemed to care about getting his money, not doing a good job. He really seems nice and would assure me things would be fine each time I brought up a concern. I really wanted to believe him. I really wanted to hire a small family business, but this was a full disappointment.
