Unfortunately, there's not really much good to say about our trip to Sgt. Pepperonis. We were lured into this establishment by a Local Flavor coupon, so at least we were able to save some money on our visit. Walking in, it's really not that much to write about... it's obvious that decor isn't a concern for them. I will say, however, our hopes were pretty high because it does smell very good upon entry. Unfortunately, that was the best part of our visit. The restaurant is woefully understaffed. There was exactly one server for the whole place of maybe 15 tables. She was friendly enough, to her credit, but the lack of staff made the visit unenjoyable, because whatever we wanted to have corrected with our food we didn't want to mention because she was so over-worked. We ordered a 16" pizza and I had a half order (only 5 pieces) of wings. They do offer beer selections, but I passed this time in favor of some water and tea. The pizza took FOREVER... going on 45 minutes (at one point, my wife suggested ordering from the asian place a couple doors down to get an appetizer or something). My back was to the kitchen, but I could only assume that they worked pizzas in serial, meaning they made them basically one at a time. There was a LOT of carryout traffic which added to the dining room wait. They did not seem to prioritize people actually waiting at their tables for food. Once the food came out, I immediately noticed that our request (no olives) was missed by the kitchen. Not a fan of having to pick toppings off a pizza. The pizza tasted only OK. Somewhere between frozen pizza and pizza hut. The crust was very bland to me and was only saved by the leftover ranch from my wing order. As for the wings... oh my... definitely avoid. I do not like baked wings, they are generally mushy and dry. This was the case with these wings, they were mushy and dry. The sauce I requested was a mix of the hot and the bbq (there was only 5 or so choices to begin with). They were average size, but to my surprise, when I bit into one of the smaller looking ones, it wasn't a wing at all, but a chicken neck (maybe part of the backbone)! So basically I only got 4 wings at $2 each... tasting not even close to what they were charging ($2 wings should be huge and crispy). The food was definitely NOT worth the wait. No one at our table, including our 17 yo son who usually eats anything were impressed with our visit. With all the pizza choices in Bearden Hill and especially in the Knoxville area, there are much better places to get much better pizza and wings than here. This one is a one-and-done for us, and I can't recommend you bother with it either. read more

Sarge's offers premium pizza, by the slice, or by the pie. I am not sure where to rank their food, among so many, great pizzerias, in Knoxville. It's a crowded, very competitive market and you have to have a great product to remain in this market. So, Sarge's doesn't have some sort of super unique, bespoke crust. It's neither thin nor thick. It's not chewy, not very stretchy, and is too thick to fold, unless you want a mouth stuffed absolutely full of pizza. The cheese is good and they put a good amount of it on, as standard, but it doesn't really standout. The toppings are priced, as premium, but don't necessarily taste premium. So, Sergeant Pepperoni's service average pizza, on average crust, with average toppings, for a relatively premium price. How do they stay in this competitive market? I have non idea, especially, since there's a much better pizzeria, literally across the street from them, that serves premium pizza, on premium crust, with premium toppings, at the same prices. My guess is that Sarge's does fine, since they are within sight of a large enclave of Knoxville's wealthiest residents, who are by definition, unaffected by price elasticity. read more

Amazing little hole in the wall! We stopped here on a whim and so glad we did! I got an Ally pizza (pepperoni, pepperocini, tomato, and cheese), and my husband customize his own. The deluxe veggie toppings were fresh, but the crust was a tad limp, although the cheese pizza was better in that respect. Overall, the flavors were underwhelming. All of a sudden, SP's gluten free crust looked different, the shape of a boot print, considerably smaller that the ususal 10" pie I was accustomed to, and $4.00 more expensive. But I trusted them. BIG MISTAKE! Boy, am I sick!!! My gut is so damaged, it will be weeks before I am well again. Only Celiac patients such as myself will understand the pain and discomfort I am experiencing. Sergeant Pepperonis lost a long time patron permanently. NEVER again! Please, if you are like me, or have children that must eat gluten free, don't patronize Sergeant Pepperonis. Saturday, April 20@5:30 ish. Let me begin by saying that we frequently eat here and love the food. This review is not about the food. It is about the lack of customer care from the staff. My friend and I were the first booth customers. We ordered and were chatting when a couple in their 30s with 2 of the most uncontrolled brats strolled in and sat at a table 1 empty booth behind us. From the moment they entered, the kids were screaming, yelling, running around while playing with their toys. The "father" brought them over to the booth directly behind me which had a shared back. He let the kids jump up and down yelling at the top of their longs knocking me from behind. The waitress brought our pizza and asked if we needed anything. I said yes, ask them to move. She said "do you need anything besides that?". I said no. The kids were still yelling and running around- we could not have a conversation. The "father " was standing not more than 3' from me watching them jump on the seat which pushed me in my seat. During this whole exhibition, the parents nor the staff sought to correct the situation. Several times I turned to look at the father, I even said please stop. He just looked at me stupidly like I was asking for the moon. I will not be back since the management doesn't seem to be interested in customer service. We were paying customers and had every right to enjoy a peaceful meal and conversation. read more

This was a total disappointment. The moment I opened the box and saw the pizza I knew it wasn't going to be good. Looks aren't deceiving after all. I was starving and still didn't find it good. Vegetable pizza - you would assume the cheese is the most expensive part of a pie and I still think it is. So if I'm paying the same price but without cheese, you would assume they wouldn't be so cheap on the toppings right? Well think again because they are. (Look at picture uploaded) if they want permanent customers and more, they should reconsider their approach to cheese-less pies. Maybe I'm the only vegan around here? Who eats bread with tomato sauce and vegetables they say. Well, I speak for the lactose intolerant people too. It's not just the "annoying" vegan heads with their restrictions! As you can tell, the pizza was terrible. There wasn't much toppings and the crust sucked. I ended up baking it with truffle oil and minced garlic. Garlic sticks without Parmesan served with marinara sauce - these tiny branches that barely had a garlic taste was they worst part about this meal. If the pie is bad, it's usually saved by the garlic bread but not in this case. I enjoyed the marinara sauce that accompanied this order and it sort of saved it. The sticks tasted freshly made but it was lacking in flavor. Overall, this was not the bang for my buck. read more

Went in at lunch time (12:30) and there was 1 person eating there. I had ordered online though so was just picking up. The guy was very nice which is why I gave it 2 stars. The pizza and bread sticks were not good. Meats tasted old and the pizza was pretty bland. Same for the cheesy foccaccia sticks, dry and bland. May have been a bad day so I will give them another shot since they were nice. Hopefully the food is better next time. read more

Now imagine fresh toppings and sauce that doesn't overpower those toppings or the crust. That's a Sergeant Pepperoni's pizza! I had a personal pizza (8") with pepperoni and sausage. The pepperoni was about what you expect from pepperoni - not spicy, just meaty. The sausage was spiced enough to be flavorful, but not to the point of adding any heat. Sergeant Pepperoni's opened in 2011, by three friends from Michigan, and has been proudly serving fresh ingredients prepared daily. I stopped by SP's on a Tuesday night and sat at the bar. I split one of their delicious pies with a friend. I ordered the Mediterranean (Spinach, marinated black olives, garlic, onions, sun-dried tomatoes and feta cheese) and was delighted by the wonderful mixture of toppings and mouth watering crust. The house marinated black olives had a great tart taste and the garlic had a strong aromatic finish. The spinach was wilted with spots of charing to enhance its earthy tones. The sauce was unique and the crust had a buttery golden brown crunch. SP has a decent beer selection, offering both domestics and craft beers on tap. The service was quick and delightful. The kitchen was visible from the bar and the employees worked happily while crafting the delicious pizzas. The interior was clean with very little noise. The bathroom was clean but very dimly lit. I had been to SP's before and got carryout. Again, I order one of their signature pizza's, the Meaty. I was just as good as the one I eat on my recent visit. I recommend SP's and I plan to revisit the pizzeria soon. read more

We've saved a collection of pizza joints just browsing through Yelp and out of those, Sergeant Pepperoni's had the pie that caught our eye. We ordered a Deluxe and because they are The "Sergeant" of Pepperoni, a Pepperoni pizza. It's in the name, it must be their best topping right? Both pizzas looked amazing. We couldn't wait to get these home to see if they tasted as good as they looked. They were terrible backseat drivers. Talking to our tastebuds by way of our noses all the way home. That is where high hope turned into an ok pizza. Yelp say's 3 stars means A-Ok and I think that is what we have here. Both My Wife and I talked about what we liked but also what could've been done to be a better pie. If improvements are being discussed then the 4/5 star review cannot be given. Is it the sauce? Not enough? It seems to have good flavor so, not sure. Is it the crust? Too thick? Seems to taste good. Hmmm? Does it need more toppings? Lacking a bit for a "Deluxe." More Cheese? Maybe. Pepperoni is good, turned out to be their best topping after all. We really couldn't put a finger on it. It is for all these reasons/questions that 3 stars is the rating for this review. Wouldn't travel to get another but wouldn't pass it up if we were in the neighborhood. The employees that I dealt with were very friendly, the place was clean, and although business was slow the atmosphere was nice. I think dining in house, drinking some cold beer, and watching a game might improve the experience. Nothing blew us away but nothing turned us off either. I would say try it for yourself. Very solid choice for a take out pizza. We love their Popeye -- the garlic is just so delicious. Their Mediterranean salad is good too. Reasonably priced too. A large Popeye and a salad is enough for two meals for two people, IMO. One of our go-to takeout spots. read more

Went in today with my wife and 2 sons. The food was good but we had a miserable waitress. She was rude to me when I asked her if our appetizer would be out before to pizza, I told her thank you when she brought the appetizer out and she did not reply, I asked for a box to take what was leftover of our pizza and she brought me a small styrofoam box so I had to ask for a 2nd box, I asked her for a drink refill before I left and she filled it up halfway. The worst part was shortly after we left my son realized he left his prescription sunglasses on the table. When we went back and asked her about them, she told him that any customer belongings left behind were thrown away. She then preceded to show him the trash can and he had to dig them out. This restaurant doesn't look like much at first glance - just a small strip mall spot painted in red and green, but once you taste the food, it will become your favorite spot in town. The pizza is delicious, the perfectly cooked crust topped with fresh ingredients. I highly recommend the artichoke dip appetizer - the dip is yummy and the cheese toast points are divine. The real standout is the sandwiches. They bake their own bread and make wonderful sandwiches that are a real steal at their $6 price point. read more
