Having just moved to East Tennessee, I had never heard of or tried a steamed sub before this. It did not disappoint. I had the Vegetarian Supreme and it was amazing. The service was quick and the interior of the restaurant just oozes 'local,' with homemade desserts, merch, and a tiny arcade in the back. Have visited this Deli over the years and it declines each time. Service not friendly (which doesn't help the declining quality of their food). Portions are laughable and that too just seems to be less and less each time I visit. Got a Chili dog and it seems the chili part of the equation was more like rations. Pasta salad, the scant amount, was very bitter. I suppose I will no longer see the gradual decline as that was my very last visit. Everyone was polite, efficient, and able to handle some last minute changes due to some confusion on my end. The food, as always, was excellent. The quality was disappointing. Bread was soggy right went I got a Turkey sandwich. The meat (we had Turkey and meatball sub) was poor quality. Their "freshly made" items are not from scratch, which it's insinuated they make from scratch from the way they word it. Service was disappointing as well because the cashier was berating my husband about him not getting as much food and kept up selling. I'm a sucker for a good deli... and Nixon's satisfied my craving for a tasty sandwich. I ordered a large peppered beef sub and it was phenomenal! It was flavorful and they did not short-change me on the contents. Lots of meat and savory goodness was present! The diner itself was clean, pleasant, and had plenty of room. I just haven't been blown away with the quality of the meats, cheeses, veggies, or bread.
