To be fair, I don't think I'm going to find a 5 star deli in TN. And here's why. I'm born and raised eastern PA within one hour of Philly, where we have banging hoagies everywhere, with far superior rolls. I will say this was a very good deli and even the pickles had a garlic bite. I would say 4 stars out of 5 beside the soups were slightly lacking with a bit of a gelatinous thickness/quality. The Reuben was good, they stack a lot of corned beef on there, the swiss was flavorful, the kraut a bit sparse and the thousand island just right but the bread was barely toasted so it didn't have the texture I was looking for and that is what cost the missing star -- making it a 4 :) I was hoping for a crispy and grilled sandwich and got what I think was a warm pressed one but not very toasty. We walked right up to the register and each ordered the half club and cup of potato soup. We took our seats, and our food was delivered to our table within about 10 minutes. The sandwich was was very good. I especially like the sweet mustard they used to create a unique and tasty flavor. The potato soup was a bit bland, but hearty. That was $8.09. Described as four cheeses with tomato. When I took it to the young man at the front, he just shrugged me off. I was obviously not pleased with my order and what I had received, but no one seemed to care. The lack of training with complaint resolution was horrible. They also left off my wife's soup. When I approached the counter and asked for it, the young man had to convince the lady in the back, obviously the one in charge, to let me have it. She grimaced like it was a scam. Horrible guest interaction again. The lack of training showed throughout. The young man asked the question, "anything else?" after every item ordered. No suggestive selling or up sell. I do not frequent this establishment, but my wife absolutely loves the club and the sweet tea. If I do return, I won't be ordering the cheese melt and soup, not for $8.09. I don't care how much purveyor prices have increased, that's got to be a 10% food cost item there! Also, I understand the effect staffing levels and lack of applicants had had on businesses, especially the hospitality industry. But, it is my opinion that when you have only a select few that will do the job that many should be doing, you train these individuals extremely well and follow up with support and guidance. McAlisters Deli is a good option to grab some lunch. Sweet tea, sandwiches, soups, & baked potatoes. I choose McAlisters before a flight out of Knoxville's airport. Have you ever been to a Corner Bakery? It's kind of the same idea, where you order at the counter and bring your number to whichever table you choose, so that a server can bring you over your food. I usually go with the half sandwich and half soup options. At this particular location I went with the California Rueben, which was a lighter take on your traditional Rueben by using turkey meat. We were deciding between Panera and here and boy did we make a great choice!! Saying the the food was incredible is an understatement! My father, husband and daughter went. We had 2 different kinds of clubs, a French dip, Mac & cheese, and broccoli and cheddar soup! We also had brownies and Cinnabon cheesecake. The sandwiches were SO FRESH and so scrumptious, I literally don't know how they did it! Their pickles were extra sour- which is great considering they are a deli and that's to be expected! Their Mac and cheese was childhood memories kinda Mac & cheese! Their lemonade was incredible- it tasted like Chick-fil-A and Panera bread's lemonade had a baby- it's so good! I believe it's free refills! My husband bought 2 slices of cheesecake to go and we sneaked a bite of one inside the restaurant- it was SO good, we ate it there and ordered two more slices to go! I wish there were more locations, but we'll definitely be making the trip to the other locations cause this food was too good to not have again! read more

I keep forgetting this place is here because it's tucked into the corner of a small strip mall that's across the street from everything else. But I like the chain so I gave this location a shot. First thing I notice is that it's huge inside. From the outside it looks small. Second thing I noticed is how super nice everyone was. I felt like I was at Disney, where every smiles and greets you. At first I didn't trust them because of this but eventually I learned to like it. They made me a little happier by being happy. What do you know - it's catchy! I like that they have outside seating. You could even bring a well-behaved pet. The food is on par with other franchise locations, which is to say consistently excellent for this type of restaurant. My husband and I went to McAlister's Deli shortly after it opened and were just not that impressed.A week or so ago, we were in a time crunch, and McAlister's was the closest and fastest choice for lunch. I ordered the roast beef and it tasted as it was microwaved and not fresh. As a side I ordered the steamed broccoli. After waiting for 15 minutes for my food they told me they were out of broccoli. I then was asked what I wanted? I basically was forced to select chips since now my sandwich was in front of me.
