Somehow, however, I had a moment of clarity a few months out and realized I needed some serious help. Serene Bridal Beauty is a professional and talented team. During my preview, Evelyn (owner) was thorough and went over in detail on how to achieve the best look for me. She was understanding, patient and honest. Evelyn even explained hairstyle lingo - e.g. "structured" vs. "textured," etc. We went over pictures of hair/makeup styles that I liked. While reviewing the pictures, she pointed out and explained the differences and similarities so I was able to narrow down my look better. I also wanted to make my hair thicker for my up do, and she recommended a place for me to get the hair extensions. She is obviously very passionate at what she does and it is important to her to make sure that the Bride is very satisfied. My color scheme had purple in it, and I wanted to incorporate that color with some kind of hair accessory for my bridesmaids. I saw some peacock feathers and asked Evelyn what/how would be the best way to to use them as a hair accessory. She is knowledgeable and crafty, and recommended what kind of craft glue to get, what kind of hair pin to use, etc. With her help and advice, made 4 different kinds of peacock hair accessories for the girls to use and they looked great in their hair. On the day of my wedding, Evelyn and her assistant arrived early and finished on time. I was impressed with their time management. I really loved my hair and makeup - natural-looking, flawless and exactly what I wanted. I recommend getting the airbrush application - it feels so weightless! When Evelyn added the hair extensions, I loved how voluminous it looked. I've never had extensions before, and she did an amazing job with my low, side bun. I got many compliments throughout the night on how pretty I looked and how beautiful my hair was. Both hair and makeup stayed-put pretty well all day! This was one of the few parts of wedding planning that was NOT a headache. Let me preface by saying that Evelyn and I were childhood friends, but I hadn't seen her in about 20 years. I had, however, followed and been wowed by her work on social media and always told myself that if I were to get married, I'd hire her to do it. What a good decision that turned out to be. Since we had an early ceremony and had 8 ladies to prep, Evelyn and her assistant Sarah came to the boonies of West Marin the night before so that they could start at the crack of dawn on wedding day. They worked like a well-oiled machine despite the chaos and the bourbon shots being passed around the room. I was pretty vague about what I wanted both during our preview and on wedding day. But they were total pros and made everything come together...The makeup and hair fit the soft wedding tones and farm wedding ambience to a T. They also prepped our picky moms, which was no easy task. Then, once each girl was finished, they quietly packed up and left, without disturbing the moment. I find that many makeup artists have a difficult time with Asian complexions, and I'm usually left with the wrong base color and an eyeshadow application that looks as if I've been punched in the face. My wedding took place in Westminster, California, during July 2011, but I first met Sarah Jones, one of the lead stylists for my preview in February 2011. She met me at my hotel room (because I live two hours away) and was extremely personable. I showed her a photo of what I wanted as well as a photo of my dress and she dolled me up exactly the way I wanted to. She is extremely organized and communicates well via phone or email...which was a must for me since I wasn't in the area much.
